- I personally think the SC550 is the best Harley Benton there is. Now they have the upgraded SC550 II, which is just better all around and there is even a PLUS version with EMG Retro Active Pickups. This one doesn't have the EMGs, but they gave this Custom-Style Single Cut some nice Gotoh Hardware! Let's play it.

HB have been killing it honestly. Can't see myself buying anything else now. I just got a fusion 3 and it's fantastic.
This was the review and demo I've been waiting for. Looks and sounds great, I like that blue.
Gotoh hardware is a no brainer. HB made a wise choice for their top models.

It's like Floyd Rose.... original Floyd Rose from China or whatever for " cheaper" serial Guitars. A original Floyd Rose costs roundabout 300€ or US $..a Floyd 1000 is made in Korea and they use zinc not Steele for some parts etc...
I bought this guitar in April and of course I went for the shell pink ^^ It's not as pink as you would think, most of the time it looks white until you put something next to it that's really white. And I love this guitar, it was my first electric guitar since 10 years or so. I ordered the SC DLX Gotoh and also the CST 24, but the CST 24 went back to Thomann, there were too many little things that added up so that it couldn't stand up to the SC DLX.
And I just checked that it got even cheaper. The B-Stock is now at 222€ which is an amazing price for a guitar that sounds and plays like that

This may very well be my next guitar from Harley Benton. All but one of my guitars are Harley Bentons.
@@jessestaton2298 It's been my first Harley Benton, because I mainly play acoustic but I need at least one good working electric guitar, because sometimes one just needs to rock ^^ it replaced my good old Yamaha Pacifica that definitely shows it age after almost 25 years.
So I'm still perfectly happy with the HB, the only thing that I will eventually upgrade is the cable jack because it's too cheap, the plug retention is super weak and it makes a lot of noise if you move the cable even the slightest. And if I would want to use it for gigging I would let somebody have a look if there's a way to make the push-pull-pot tighter. It's almost spinning freely without tension and that would absolutely bother me in a live setting.
@@marctestarossa Making a cable jack tighter is actually fairly easy to fix yourself, at least if it's a "standard design". Unscrew it and you'll see the single piece of metal that actually makes contact with the cable, and you just bend that inwards a little bit. At the very least it's worth trying that before outright replacing, the issue definitely could be deeper of course
@@metallsnubben I know, I took a look at it the other day and it was extremely hard to bend and I felt like I was about to break it. Also the soldering was done in a way that it was so tight inside the cutout in the wood that it was nearly impossible to get it back in without ripping off a wire. I will give it another shot but only when I'm ready to order a new cable jack, because then it would be ok to get the old one damaged during the process. Thanks anyway

I love Harley Benton guitars they sound very good and they look beautiful.
I have 3 weeks with this guitar(my 1st guitar) and I love it, I play everyday at least 30 min, I went for this one because it is a guitar that looks beautiful to me and every time I see her I want to play, at least practice 😅 I know this is a sponsor video but there is a lot of truth on it.

I cannot believe that Harley Benton did two blues and a pink but no red. That said, the specs are pretty great, the build quality seems fine, and it sounds great, at least in the hands of Henning. I expect this to be big seller.

I think the weight relief is simply slimming down the body and ergonomic parts, when you knock on the wood, you don't hear a tone difference in the places that are normally weigh relieved in the body of the guitar, great guitar reminds me of the 80's & 90's Gibson Les Paul custom's, with none of the bad stuff they had (Big weight, fat frets, big price)
The best playing guitar that I have and those Tesla pickups I keep them in, they are very good !
The Gotoh parts is also a step up in quality IMO. The rosewood is also very nice and dark, looks a bit like Ebony :O

New subscriber after watching quite a few of your videos. I enjoy your indignance that people will not trust your review because you get paid to do your work, a part of which is reviewing gear. I must say I love Harley Benton instruments, I’ve got a lot of stuff from Thomann , mics , drums guitars , banjos , mandolins , have never gotten a bad product from them , first thing I do is total setup because delivery services tend to throw packages off buildings on the way
Beautiful Guitar! I am sold on Harley Benton's as I have most of the classic models such as Strat style, PRS style, Les Paul Style a total of 5 guitars bought over the last 2 years. I always buy the Thomann hard cases when I buy the guitar. I gave my Les Paul away to a friend so this SC 550 II would be very nice. That Blue is gorgeous. Thanks Henning for all you do for us guitarist out here. You are a pleasure to watch, I learn from you every time I listen. Like how you use the pinky all the time and don't tuck it away. I'm old school Rock and Roll so I'm forcing myself to keep that pinky ready for action.

Guitar sounds great im with you on the gold hardware, I really dont like gold on guitars for me it looks a bit too much like a bayern munich football player wife's handbag. But I could probably get over it considering how great this guitar sounds for the price, I love the clarity of the humbuckers with gain at least from the video and keeps a lot of the warmth but isnt too fat.

They should do the "smooth" transition behind the fretboard on the T-style too. Would be...perfect.
wow that sounded good. The one thing i noticed with the last couple of HB SC models, you truly seem to enjoy playing them. Specially with the SC 550 (II) that was very very noticable. You cannot really fake that. So yes i do trust your word, you been hard on them aswell.
This guitar looks very cool. I really hope they will give it a bit more adult or exciting colours. A red burst flame top. Or maybe something with fades like chapman. Or even a completely over the top colour combo with Obnoxious bright green and black.

Good review Henning. I just got mine few days ago ... in black so that I can live with the gold hardware. Guitar now looks great with the dark fretboard. A class up. They should do it on all models. I've also noticed scratchy frets on mine so I'll take them for polishing and put the elixir nano coted strings. Also, string action is a bit high for my taste out if the box. Factory intonation was perfect. The guitar sounds huge. Would you comment on factory setup in the future videos? Btw, very appropriate pullover for the video! Was it difficult to find? :)
I happened to wear that sweater that day… total coincidence… factory setup was ok…. had to adjust the neck a bit.
He has connections to Thomann I believe, so the sweater was not a coincidence

if I get a bit of sprout during winter I rub the shubb capo Chrome bar down sides and seems to help until more humidity arrives

So if you want to be able to eat, then get the SC DLX. If you can shell a bit more then get the SC 550. Got it!. I wanted to get this one, but I think I should wait for SC 550, I mean.. I hope they sent some to Reverb. Official HB storefront in USA guys, what a time to be alive. I guess Firefly finally put some pressure into HB, and that's good for us peasants.
The black one is my personal favourite by a mile. Just to touch on something you mention towards the end of the vid. I was under the impression the SC550 range of guitars have a veneer over a plain maple cap with that then on top of a mahogany (or similar) body wood. So HB might have beaten you to the punch and are giving us a reasonably thick maple cap as is. Whether or not it makes even the slightest bit of difference to an electric guitar I will not get into.

Love this guitar, well just smoothened the fret-ends, polished the frets and rounded the nut, 30 minutes job, for the rest no complaints at all because I always do this, even it's a billion dollar guitar, but for the rest I love this guitar, not the weight of a G*, finally a good looking and sounding LP for me. During my whole live I had LP's, but they hardly hit he stage because I'm not a bodybuilder. Used the sitting in the studio. This one is for every purpose OK. Nice job of HB and a good review of Henning.
I didn't see anything about this: how do the pickups compare to the SC 550 II. They are listed as different models of the Tesla's?

Ha ha :D I have that very one, in that colour and I absolutely love it. You're right that the colour is kind of a weird choice, i think green and gold work perfectly, like on a Gretsch perhaps, but I genuinely love this guitar's blue. I changed all the volume/tone control knobs to gold ones and they suit it much better i think as the black stock ones stand out and don't really fit the look in my personal opinion. Looks much nicer with gold (speed control style ones, as it were). I love your review Henning and your points about "but why?" but - to be brutally honest - I just took a risk and bought it on looks alone. The super cheap price from Thomann, and no import tax/duty to the UK now! - I think Thomann have now included it all in their pricing and deal with it before it's shipped to the UK now - joy of joys! - But i might be wrong about that but I had nothing to pay upon it's delivery to my house in England. I took a risk because I have subjectively bad taste in guitars perhaps haha and got a win this time. Its so lovely to play. I have 3 Harley Benton guitars now, all from Thomann and not once have I ended up with a dud. Couldn't care less about Gibsons and Fenders etc where they're costing £1300 upwards for something that's STILL considered one of their low end range guitars, when i can spend £300 on a HB that looks ( to me ) JUST as gorgeous and plays brilliantly for my needs. I'm never going to be Slash, I don't need a £3500 Gibson and nor do a million other bedroom guitarists. Why spend that when something like one a SC DLX Gotoh will more than suit their needs?
Henning, you're one of the MOST HONEST reviewers out there. I'm about to buy my first HB guitar soon, and I'm using your videos to help me decide. Plus, one other thing about your videos that I can't say about some other reviewers' videos............they're a lot of FUN. You are very entertaining. Keep up the great work!!! Got mine a week and a half ago in Pelham blue (It's a gloss instead of matte finish) and I love it. Thomman was running a special on the gloss blue and matte pink and I just couldnt pass it up. The Tesla pick-ups a little hotter then I expected but really digging them when you tune down (This is gonna wind up being my C standard guitar). Fantastic guitar, especially at this price.

Good review as always Henning. These are amazing with those Tesla pickups. Elon Musk didn't copyright it i guess. To bad the black one isn't mat finished unlike the DC Gotoh series, who has same pickups with push pull split coil. I didn't hear you mention it for this guitar, i think, but could be me. The SC 550 II I received was trash quality compared to my black DLX Gotoh. They focused on the parts that are Important instead of an fake foto decor.
Ohh and also huge fan of the belly/tummy cut. ;)
The Larry Carlton models seem to be really well finished and still affordable, HB are cheaper though
I was very suspicious of Harley Benton until I saw your reviews. I already went and purchased guitars from a different brand as my first two; but if I stick with the hobby I definitely see a Harley Benton in my collection.

I have both, this one and the SC 550 plus. Have to say that the SC550 was just perfect out of the box, played better, better fretwork and sounded fantastic. The SC DLX is a great guitar, sounds good as well, but frets were not polished and overall set up was not on pair with the SC550 plus. We now need the SC550 plus with Gotoh and more colors as you said !

@@wm1573 Well my SC550+ is absolutely flawless. The frets are as nice as my Gibson and LTD (same factory Indonesia). I was blown away.

I have to say that the two American starter brands have raised their prices and the quality is not so great. The Harley Benton has some great products at great prices. The only downside is that the shipping to the states is high and the Thomann inventory seems pretty low right now.

I have 3 HBs and love them all. I have the SC550-II and it's amazing. Been considering this one, even though the 550-II is already perfect.
I also have an SC550-II, I also tried the EMG version but the -II was better. I wounder how this compares to the 550-II

Tesla pickups sounds great. Best I have heard in a budget guitar!
I got a B-stock Pelham Blue and it is incredibly beautiful. Finish seems perfect. Frets are good. It is lightweight. Tuners are very smooth. B-stock because the G tuner is cocked. How does it sound? To determine that, I’ll have to loan it to someone who can actually play. 😃
Okay I replaced the tuners with Hipshot locking. So there is a visible screw hole on the back of the headstock-who cares. Being a pitiful fucked-up ADHD perpetual beginner, I found the guitar very “slippery” i.e. always going sharp or flat under my fingers. After playing another guitar for several months (actually, your signature model, which is awesome, I can’t help sucking up) I tried it again, and… it’s sweet. Again, utterly a beginner but the scale length seems easier. Who knows. Everyone has an opinion based on a combination of a fine understanding of reality, and utter fucking bullshit. YMMV.
I just bought the newly released TE-62CC in charcoal frost, a Tele with a roasted maple neck for only 151€ (sent to Italy!). That's just insane: the neck is so good! It sounds good too: it hasn't much twang, but is definitely a modern Tele. :D

Don't know how much difference the Gotoh-bridge would make, but the tuners I'd have to swap out immediately for locking-tuners anyway...

What is the harley benton to get for a beginner? single cut is the style the most, might not be the best, but is the my "better one"
I got the Gotoh SC DLX Pelham on the Christmas sale, so it was basically the same price as the SC550 II, which is what I was shopping for but it was out of stock. I think I'm going to stick with the Indonesia made guitars from now on. The Gotoh sounds good, and now I'm wondering what else sounds good but with a different voice. I'm in no rush, and I'll just be window shopping most likely for several months.
I don't know about the guitar, but that studio! I wantz that studio! :-D
Sign me up for that £549 SC550++ with a solid top but keep the Teslas on it so that maybe it's £529 and I can use the £20 to get a new dimarzio cliplock strap to go with it 😸

I wonder how those Tesla pickups compare to the Roswells. The LAF-s were too muddy for me, I replaced them with passive ESP EMGs. They are a bit mid-scooped but fairly balanced in the low and high end.

It's worth mentioning that these are now going for €298, 40 cheaper for b stock.
Bought this guitar on your recommendation and it was shit. The pickups were routed offset and I had to return it really wanted it to be good. Somebody really messed up!

Ah yes, the gold hardware the HB puts on EVERYTHING….also not a fan of gold hardware, but I suspect gold hardware is easier to get these days hence why HB is using it all over the place. It’s just one more thing I have to change out if buying a HB guitar.
does Barley Fenton know that Gotoh also makes locking tuners?

Got a shell pink SG Gotoh, and it's one hell of a guitar. Not really digging the bridge pickup, and that's the only complaint I have.
Alright, I fell for it. After purchasing an SC-550Plus and sending it back because it had a horrible nut job (which I had neither the tools nor the expertise to fix, it was that bad) I decided to scale down a bit a get an SC-DLX (in Pelham Blue).
I don't mind the frets, they are ok to me. The hardware - A+. Sounds... a bit so and so. It goes well on clean and up to crunch, but as soon as you try to push it into the metal zone (METAAAAL) it sounds a bit... lacking. It's clearly not made for that, but probably you can make it sound metal with pedals and stuff, what do I know?
Sounds great for 329, though. I wonder if you can make it better by swapping the pickups? I don't have enough guitar expertise to know this...
