Harley Benton TE62CC Project - I made my parts decisions!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 сер 2024
- In today's video I go over two modifications for the guitar that already made it here, test fit a Vibramate adaptor kit to see if a Bigsby would work on this guitar without modification, and go over the final parts list for the Harley Benton TE62CC mod project! I'm having a lot of fun with this mini series and can't wait for the rest of the parts to arrive! Let me know what you think in the comments below!

I will admit I'm biased towards the Fishman pickups, but it really makes sense to go the budget route. Particularly if it gets the word out on a good small business that's in the U.S.
That last part is what made me decide on it, the small business aspect really hits my sentimental side and i figure why not try to help others who are doing things from the ground up
I wish they would have put stainless steel frets on these. I feel like Harley Benton can fill a gap in the market with traditional guitars, with roasted necks and stainless steel frets. Not just the Fusions.
i TOTALLY agree, they give this guitar a 12 inch radius, roasted maple neck, but traditional frets? Even if they upcharge the guitar a bit more it really would have made it even more appealing.
Fantastically informative video as ever and actually really cool to change the necessities but also work on the value for money front as I imagine that will help and inspire a lot of people too 😊 plus great to give shoutouts to small shops if they’re great too!
It’s so cool how a person can get a Harley Benton and then do all of these things to them to give them the same specs as a couple thousand dollar guitar. I plan to do some of the things to my Slash Appetite for Destruction Chibson. I plan to get it totally re-wired, gonna get some Slash Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 Pros put in, and I may also change the tuners and the saddle and bridge.
Hi, I've got one of those afd Epi's, not bad for the price. I swapped out the pups for an Iron Gear rolling mill and alchemist 90 set, and upgraded all the pots and cap etc, it made a huge difference! Will upgrade the tuners soon as well. Good luck with yours.
@@joetotale1 yeah I plan to do it in a few months and get it as close to stock as possible a little at a time.
Love that mineral stripe in the fret board. I didn't mention it but I assume if the inside isn't shielded you will do that. Never thought of string trees but Graphtech makes some out of their nut and saddle material that many people are raving about and another option is a new concept 3-string tree. Another idea is personalization. I put a trout decal on one guitar, on another I put a WWII pinup girl decal. I embedded a tiny gold nugget in a headstock where a hole once was. I have a Bigsby that has an opening like a cameo and I used it to frame a picture of a loved one. Jimmy Page and Terry Kath put little circular mirrors on their Teles, then Jimmy later painted his.
I saw the coke opener you posted just now, im laughing thinking about how much that would dig into me while playing 🤣
Yep just a bit of shielding needed nothing major, luckily i have a good amount of materials like that lying around
I totally agree with that mods:) Let`s keep 'classic' vibe of original tele. If I had this tele I would like to put american texas special pickups, as I had them in my MiM tele and this option was great
Cool man, I recently have begun putting new parts into my old MIM strat and it's been really fun. Learning a lot about my instrument in the process.
Nothing like taking things apart and seeing how it works, it gives you a better idea of how to actually improve it to your tastes!
Modding cheaper guitars is really fun. I bought a Squier Bullet Tele(surf green) about 2 years ago. Stock, it was actually really good, but I already had plans for a complete mod job.
I ended up putting GraphTech ratio locking tuners, string saver saddles, string tree and a Tusq nut, Seymour Duncan Quarter pound set, CTS pots, Oak and Grigsby switch and a Switchcraft jack.
It's one rockin' little beast.
I can't wait to see and hear yours. Curious to hear what those pups are going to sound like.
I've modded more squiers than I can even remember, they really helped me understand the most important parts of the guitar when replacing pieces and also taught me some that actually are fine as is 99% of the time. It's a lot of fun modding things in general, gives you a great sense of accomplishment when the whole thing is done!
Excited to hear the Bootstraps in a HB guitar.👍
So am I! I'm overly excited for a $50 pickup set, it's not something I do often here and I'm really looking forward to supporting and showcasing such a small brand that does their work out of a garage like the old days
Thanks for doing the bigsby demo! Subscribed!!
I figured it would be better to show it so others could see it as well instead of just typing a comment, hope it helped!
Just bought that very guitar. Can’t wait for it to arrive 👌
Hell yeah! Which finish did you pick?
Same, sfg 👍
I got the blue version and I'm seriously impressed. The only 'ify' thing I've noticed is that the bridge saddles are angled, which means string spacing at the bridge end is uneven. As I've not had a Tele before I'm not sure if this is normal. Plays brilliantly and Thomann confirmed that it's made in the same factory that makes Fenders.
Some models have them, some don't. I prefer compensated saddles but on a model at this price it's completely unreasonable to expect it to come standard with those. It really is incredible how well these guitars are built regardless considering they cost less than most overdrive pedals at this point. Congrats on your purchase!
The guitar looks great to start with and is great for the price. If you can improve it for a minimum amount, such as the pickups you've been recommended, and still take on more expensive guitars then you're bang on. Some guitar kits cost more than the guitar stock and then you'd still want to upgrade the hardware, electronics and sort out a decent finish to the neck and body. I don't think you can beat modding a Harley Benton for sure! Keep up the good work! :)
Thanks John! At first it seemed like fun to try and "max the guitar out" with parts but I think this is a much more interesting approach towards it. Appreciate the comment!
I'm glad that you deicided to go with Bootstrap's 👍
I'm really excited about it, they actually look really high quality and it's nice to support a smaller shop
@@AudiomoMusic I agree completely, I'll be waching your review
Thats super cool! What brand/model the bone nut is? Thank you 😊
Another excellent and helpful video!
Thank you sir! Stuff like this is fun to me, I really enjoy assembling guitars and testing out parts and the like
Interested in hearing a before/after and a comparison to a fender to see how the new p'ups sound. I would love to get a "tele" sound as cheaply as possible. I've been researching budget tele's for months and am leaning toward this model and color (based on your comment on the color being close to original)
Good news bruce, the before and after is going to be posted tomorrow, I finally received the pickups and did a quick A/B with the stock pickups. There will be Fender comparisons shortly after, although the only telecaster I currently have here is a custom shop so that's a big ask of the harley benton.
Unless I'm missing something, I'm not sure I can see exactly which Gotoh vintage locking tuners you used. Do you mind me asking which model number on the Gotoh parts catalogue? I'm thinking it might be the Gotoh SD91-05M MG?
Excited for you Jim! Have a set of Palo Duros I need to install on my MIM Tele. 🎸
I didn’t see those available for teles, it was either extra crispy or original 🤣
@@AudiomoMusic 😂 I hope you got crispy. I'll be patient and wait the month for the install.
I went original! I actually prefer lower output pickups these days, I'm an old man
@@AudiomoMusic 🤣
Never heard of boot strap you just made this interesting.
I hadn't either and I felt like a fool for it, but handwound in a garage in the USA for 50 bucks? lets do it
@@AudiomoMusic you might give me a 3rd confusion errrrr i mean choice
I've go Bootstraps in my MIM strat. They made all the difference in the world in my tone, and a full set was only $50. They're 50's wound, so very weak output, and they sound great. They have other kinds of strat pickups that have more output though
I prefer the lower output actually! Thats really encouraging to hear you love yours and at this price its hard to say no
@@AudiomoMusic I love lower output, too. It's easy to gain stack, and you get more tone (imo)
Nice serie of videos! I have a similar project, are the holes of the bridge standard ? Would any vintage style télé bridge fit ? Keep on the good work!
In the future it would be nice to have your opinions on the hb bass guitar, I've been thinking about getting a baritone and that sounds like a cheap and nice option to experiment and see if I can connect with a 30 inch neck. Keep up the good content, it's being very fun to check your journey... Cheers from Finland ✌️
Ive only played one Baritone guitar and it was a breeze to get used to, when I play bass its on the Fender Short Scale mustang bass we have and its also easy to transition. Id like to try one of the HB bass guitars at some point, need to find a second guitar to order with it to cushion the shipping costs. Thanks for checking these videos out!
I'm probably being dumb but is there a link for the tuners?
www.stewmac.com/parts-and-hardware/tuning-machines/solid-peghead-guitar-tuning-machines/gotoh-locking-vintage-oval-knob-6-in-line-tuners/ there you go
Could you please, tell us which model/brand are you using to tuners replacement ? Some link. Thnx in advance

Gotoh Vintage Locking oval 6 knob tuners
Thank you again
Try planet-tones I have one in my studio guitar.
I had a set of those in an old mexican telecaster, they were really good!
I´m planning on buying a TC-62cc and upgrading it with a Fender 4 way switch to have the option to put the 2 single coils in series. This would probably require me to install the Fender 4 way switch control plate as well to give the switch enough width to operate correctly. Do you have an idea if that control plate would fit?
Excited about this project of yours! I´m following.
Someone else in my comments section managed to fit in a prewired control plate, he did say it needed wasnt a perfect fit but it ended up working out.
Give it a try, worst case you can widen the existing holes on the control plate to fit the new electronics
What are the tuners... model details?
I clicked on your link and it came up as 'unsafe'... but I would like to know exactly which tuners they are.
Don't know why it showed unsafe, it's one of the most trusted parts stores in all of the USA. Just search for Gotoh Locking Vintage Oval Knob 6-In-Line Tuners, that's exactly what they are. 👍
@@AudiomoMusic Thanks. 👍 And by the way.. excelente reviews.
Yeah, I like the idea of using domestic small businesses whenever it is reasonable to do so. Interested to see how it turns out! :)
I want to do more of that this year in general, I always support Lindy Fralin pickups as he makes IMHO the best vintage style pickups in the entire world but it's good to try other smaller brands for different parts as well. I really want to try some pedals from small companies I've never tried as well!
Hey man! I got one of these I would like to replace the tuners as well. Can you write the specific model? I don't want to order the wrong one knowing that what you used fits perfectly. Thanks!

@@AudiomoMusic Thank you mate!!!
Awesome
If only it were sherwood green
@@AudiomoMusic yes
It's so pretty. My 15 year old self would say it's the ugliest thing ever though, lmaoo. Btw, I really like the "HB" on the headstock. Their old logos aren't as slick looking.
I hated teles growing up now they are in my top two guitar designs 🤣
Are they the gotoh sd91 tuners?
looking at the description in the link below and info on Amazon UK, I would say yes
I have mine sorted so it plays proper but man the stock pick ups are the worst tele pups i have ever heard, this is not i good sounding guitar straight out of the box imho, ill be curious to see how your pick up swap goes!
They are out for delivery today! Expect a video in the next week or so
Would highly appreciate if you could respond to this message with the exact names or links to the items you mentioned in the video, especially the tuners. Subbed, thanks a bunch!

@@AudiomoMusic Hey man and thanks a bunch for the response. Do you think any alternatives are available on Thomann, as I'm living in the EU and ordering those items from the US would be double the cost, due to customs. Basically, if you would have a minute to find some locking tuners on Thomann that would fit, as I don't know the dimensions of the ones you posted, hence, I don't know what to look for. Rest is fine, I got set of pickups already. Cheers my dude and keep up an amazing work!
Hello, I was wondering if a standard fender tele neck would fit this body. I tried looking for neck pocket dimensions, but I couldn’t find measurements anywhere. Could you please help me answer this question by sending neck pocket measurements for this guitar? Thank you
I sent this guitar to @staleyexplores and no longer have it, he just made a video about it
