David Draiman is one of the best metal and classically trained singers. His control, power and passion is what takes an amazing song and makes it Epic
David Draiman and "can't sing" don't belong in the same sentence. That's blasphemous.. I mean yeah, that's absolutely crazy.
I think he's simply confusing "double sound" or "Rasping" with struggling ;)

This is the original singer from Disturbed and this man has ALWAYS been able to sing - you must have him confused with someone else. Or possibly you just don't care for metal music. David Draiman is a classicly trained singer - he could sing opera if he wanted to - he is a true artist. He possibly has the BEST MALE voice out there right now - he is amazing as this song proves.
Erich Awalt was the original singer from 94 to 96 then in 96 David took over.

David isn't the original singer from the band. Eric Awalt was their original singer David took over 2 years after.

Yes, this is the original singer, he was classically trained which is rare nowadays. One wouldn't know it by their "normal" style of music, but his vocal range exceeds that of most singers today. It's a shame he doesn't showcase it more than he does, he's a rare breed!
Even in their "normal" songs, his vocals are great!
I remember reading that the band formed then auditioned singers and they loved what David brought to the vocals.
He is like a modern day baritone Sebastian Bach from Skid Row. Most people don’t realize how many metal singers have classical training. It’s so great when they do because adding vibrato to a distorted voice is so hard to do but man it sounds killer.
He truly is one of the best vocalists of this generation.
Too bad you can't actually hear his GREAT vocals in the bands "normal" songs.
You could say he's one of the best singers ever. I don't know why you're holding back from giving him credit, he's incredible.

He sounds much more rich in his lower ranges because he is a true baritone. I wouldn’t say he is “better” in his lower range but that’s where his voice sounds the most full and rich.
I love how he is able to go from full chest voice to head voice then to the growl in the chest.
I’ve been roaming around watching the different reactions to this song and it amazes me how those that are a bit familiar with this band and this man. They’re really surprised at the quality of David’s voice. He was blessed with this voice and yes he’s vocally trained as well but it takes some real talent to criss cross across the musical highway the way he does. 👍👍👍

He did not add or take any words awa from the 1964,verison. Simon and Garfunkel was trying to send a message to in 1964. Liston to both. David just said it so we could really hear that message.
David Draiman has been with Disturbed since 1994 and he bloody well can sing. One of the best singer's I know he has a cracking voice...

Phenomenal singer with a 4 octave range. I get goosebumps every single time I hear this. Has to be 50 or more times. He is generally a metal singer and yeah he is the singer and I can't imagine you ever got a bad singing gig from him unless he was very sick because he sang this Conan gig while he was sick and you can see he still did a great job.

I've seen Disturbed live a few times, mostly David nails it (including stricken) but his style of singing puts a lot of strain on his vocal chords and I have seen him on an off night, but usually the guy is phenomenal.

excellent reaction video and breakdown.! This performance and arrangement is my favorite....would like to see more live performances by this group with a orchestra backing them up (not that they need it) for the added effect...very cool by Disturbed.
David Draimen is the original singer,he is also one of if not the best vocalist of today,hands down,been listening to them from day one and for me personally I hear so many different vocal ranges in every song he sings,he schooled in classical singing and he also studied under his father who was a Jewish cantor,I have never heard him sing a song were his voice was horrible.The rasp you speak of is called vocal frying and not everyone can do it safely without actually destroying their voice.
@Atheos B. Sapien he is the original singer of Disturbed,Erich Awalt sang for a band called Brawl with the other band members but David has been lead singer for disturbed.
David hits every note within 2 octaves and slides in and out of distortion with ease. All with such power and control. Gives me goosebumps every time.

Original vocal lead David Draiman of Disturbed. Listen to other albums of his n you will know he can see. Lots not forget he is a metal showman to. So sometimes live singing is sacrificed in lew of throwing a great show. But nonetheless he’s good live. Try singing in that rasp 5-6 days a week ur voice ain’t gonna be perfect every time. David is not only the lead singer of Disturbed. Saying he couldn't sing on another song...he's classically trained. His grandfather was the main cantor at the main temple in Jerusalem, as was his father before him and before him. David was being trained as a cantor, which is extremely rigorous training before he went a different direction. So yeah, I doubt seriously if Disturbed ever put out a song where David "couldn't sing". ,

The original singers were Simon and Garfunkle in 1966. David covered it in 2015
I don't know the year but David had a herniated stomach sphincter and therefore SEVERE acid reflux. His voice was effected. He had surgery to repair the sphincter and he got his voice back. Unfortunately the problem has returned and surgical repair is not possible. It is controlled via diet, medication and Body positioning while sleeping. He does all this to protect his voice. Maybe this explains why he was having problems in that video you mentioned. I enjoyed your reaction video of Disturbed's performance.
David Draiman has been classically trained, as in like opera type singing. He prefers singing metal, where they do a lot of growls and screams. Some people, including me, don't like growling and screaming, but, it is a very difficult technique that takes a lot of training and practice. Any of us can sort of do it for a while, but we'd ruin our vocal cords if we did it very much without the right technique. It just takes a song like this for some of us to hear what he was always capable of. If he wanted to, he would sound amazing in whatever style you prefer.

He must be ill when he sang this, I noticed his sinuses are inflamed. That rasp you hear is actually distortion that he is a master of, goes to his rock singing.

YOU SHOULD NEVER STOP THE VIDEO EVER EVER TALK OVER IT OR UNDER IT BUT NEVER STOP IT!!! Sorry once you stopped the video you dropped the emotion and your opinion was worthless after that. You are not a vocal professional do not try to trash on someone who is until you are at least as good at what you do. David Draiman is professionally taught and has extraordinary range as a bass singer second E below middle C to the E above middle C. He learned how to use all of his vocal chords and mouth to be as wonderful as he is.

Not a classical trained singer per say. He was a Jewish Cantor singer. That was his training. Slightly different method but obviously does the job. David is just brilliant
I can not believe you just said David Can NOT sing.. yikes. YES this is the same man. You need to re listen to the song and not speak ..just hear them all the way through then speak. You completely ruin the whole vibe and feeling. Most that watch this and hear him.. are so lost on words after they are speechless and a lot cry, it brings such raw emotion and really make you FEEL. Disturbed did a fabulous job on this cover.

Actually this was written in 1964 by Paul Simon after a dream he had, then performed by himself and his band band mate... Art Garfunkel.. They were called as a group Simon and Garfunkel. The rest are JUST covers off that original song.

to a few more songs by him. I can't speak for the others here, but imo, he has
some great songs on his last album "Evolution" that deserve a listen , as well
