Dearest John, I've been struggling wiith swiss rols all my life. I've tried those fancy channels, with classical music in the background, followed them to the letter and... disaster. Then I came accros your channel and this particular video and the result was fabulous! Perfection. I am sooo happy. The taste AND the appearance were fantastic. Thank you so very much! I trust your recipes 100%.

Yeah, I hope if I ever make a Swiss roll again that I don't screw it up like I did in culinary school. I really want to make a bûche Noël (a cake shaped like a wooden log. It's a Christmas tradition in some parts of France).

This man is the real deal; such a knowlegable and creative man. Thank you John. I can imagine the great life I hope you had. Lots of new tricks in this recipe, like premolding and the wonderful way you released that delicate cake. If I was 50 years younger, I'd love to have a B & B and serve my guests all your simple but comforting delicious recipes. I can picture this one set on a well laid table for afternoon tea.

John is 100% better than any of the stuff you find on the food network here in the state. I'm even going to go as far as saying he's even better than 90% of the crap on our pbs create station.
I'm impressed with how simple he makes everything look.

I’ve never made a swiss roll before and I decided to make one for my boyfriend’s birthday, and after searching for the perfect recipe I found these! Thank you so much, this recipe is perfect and the only one I’ll use from now one! It was perfect! :) I’ll be sure to trust you with many recipes from now on!

Dear John, I've just made the chocolate swiss roll, It is a delicious treat and the recipe is easy to follow. However, I've changed the cream filling slightly by adding half milk and half bitter chocolate instead of white chocolate, a bit of ricotta cheese and cherry brandy, Kirsch. It's become really decadent. I will try the vanilla and Jam one next time. Thanks for this great channel, easy to follow instructions and recipes.

I’m just amazed how easy and smooth the process turned out thanks to being perfectly explained above and will have it a go with the other videos on the channel.

I live in a countryside rural town of Brazil's Rio de Janeiro State where only occasionally local supermarkets will sell whipping cream (we use canned cream below 30% fat content or card box 17-20% fat cream with some thickener gum). SO I have always done my French chocolate mousse using meringue and a Sabayon done by whipping egg yolks and sugar (I like to add some Port Wine) over a Bain Marie! - So, thank you very much for teaching a much better way of making a Sabayon, I do have a Kitchen thermometer including a sugar syrup one that I have never used for some reason. Thanks again! - Genoises are Portugal's national cake (aka "Pão-de-Ló") and every town has its own recipe!

I watched quite a few different Swiss Roll video's and decided to make your version as it did not have 6 eggs in it like some other recipes I came across. Your version really came out quite delicious. It was nice and fluffy and soft too. What I did find though, is that the cream and chocolate mixture was quite a lot and definitely too much to make just one Swiss Roll. So next time I make this Swiss Roll, I will definitely half the ingredients for the filling. What I also decided to do is to blend the strawberries in my mixer first, then added them to the cream and chocolate mixture and the spread it. I also grated chocolate over the cream mixture and then rolled it up. I was quite impressed with my 1st attempt at making a Swiss Roll and even more impressed that I could manage to roll it up without breaking it too.
Thank you for a wonderful easy to follow recipe John.

Kinda funny to watch this. Yrs ago I made a swiss roll. Was at my aunt's and said something to her about it. She was like I'm not trying to make it, if you want it make it yourself, so that's what I done. Think it shocked her that it turned out like it was supposed to.

@@JohnKirkwoodProFoodHomemadeWe do call "braces" suspenders in America (US). Only because "braces" here usually mean "those metal things you get in your mouth to correct your crooked teeth, mostly worn by kids and teenagers, but adults can have them too."

Thank You John! After much searching of different chocolate swiss roll recipes I decided yours looked the best and having just made it, I am delighted. I haven't made your filling but will another day, instead I rolled mine up with Waitrose's vivid Morello cherry preserve and double cream, the tang from the preserve offsets the sweetness of the chocolate roll perfectly. I will be buying your cook books and wonder why they are not on amazon?
