You might be amazed how worthwhile reading the manual is. Not being snarky, but Cubase is so deep, there’s no telling what workflow things you don’t even know exist. Also, just scrolling through the whole key command list in one go and mapping everything that you want to map in a way that makes sense to your brain. Then save your profile so you never lose it. :)
3:22 You did here absolutely something else. Lol 😂 It's by default - Shift+H/Shift+G - Zoom Vertically In / Out ✅ not Alt ❌ zoom in on the waveform Alt + G/H ✅ not shift ❌ You have shown the complete opposite 😂 Thanks for showing up anyway ❤
Love it! The "Tracks to Groups," "Tracks to EFX," "New Instrument Track," and "New Audio Track" key commands are genius and will give me more free time to come up with more music instead of clicking menus all day. Cheers!
Im a producer from Ghana ,in west africa u have really changed my life in music production , i almost gave up but with u im getting better every day..thank you soo much .. "Nyame nshira woo paa".. literally means God bless you
Thank you! I'm new to Cubase, but not computers. Keyboard shortcuts are awesome for efficiency. Thank you for sharing great ones for Cubase to get me started fast. Minor Note: On my computer, Cubase Pro 11 is using Shift+G/H for zooming vertically, and Alt+G/H for zooming waveforms (the opposite of what you said - not sure if this is new or not, because I'm to Cubase). Stopped me for minute, but it only took a moment to look this up. Knowing about the shortcut was the key, and I got that from you. Thank you!
Very good stuff, thank you! For Snap on/off - [J] I work faster just keeping the CTRL key pressed, it bypasses the snap. Thanks Steinberg, great time saver :)
Dear Dom, I enjoy your videos a lot! I re-startetd making music with Cubase after many years. So, your videos really help me to get back into the swing of things. Keep up the great work!
Shift + G/H and ALT + G?H work the other way around for me, no idea why. But that doesn't matter, it works and that counts. I'm learning so much here, it's really awesome!!
The reset quantize shortcut/idea is pretty clever ;) What I did for my quantize resolution = ctrl + 1-4: previous, next, toggle triplet, and quantize settings respectively. For what it's worth I also have toggle dotted quantize on shift + 3, but that's rare for me to use. I find it pretty logical placement considering that the quantize shortcut is Q. The game changers for me were Edit Instrument (numpad 7), Edit Channel Settings(numpad 8), Key Editor(numpad 4), Drum Editor(numpad 5)... it just feels good.
Thank you for all these shortcuts! I'm new to Cubase....just diving into it now and really trying to get a hold of it finally, it's all so very helpful! I'm trying to have some better workflow with my projects! Thank you!
Awesome video man thanks. Is it possible to assign a shortcut to a specific insert? Say for example second or third insert of the selected channel. Thanks.
Nice, I learned some new ones. One of my most valuable hotkeys is ', which is a macro that contains locators to selection, insert cycle marker and navigate right. Huge time save when you need to select and export, say, 50 audio files, which is common in sampling. Just hold down the key until it's all selected, set up naming convention, batch export cycle markers, and it's done. I rememeber my miserable days of doing it manually. Make macros of everything you do often.
Thanks for the tips, just noticed that for the 1st tip, you don't need to adjust quantize to change the segment lengths. Cubase simply cuts the segments into equal sizes, using the 1st segment as a reference point.
@@DomSigalas So whatever snap option I have selected, "Beat, Bar, Adapt or use quantize", the segment lengths are divided based on the size left to right of the 1st segment. If I have the "use Quantize" option selected, it snaps to whatever my quantize is set to, so for example 16th notes. If I want to this allows me to create a load of segments that are dotted 8ths or three 16th notes, or any factor of denomination of 16th notes. The tool would snap to the nearest 16th note and then create the segment sizes based on that.
Wow the reset quantize is huge! I learned something new. Subscribing now! For those who are just learning about tip #1. Another cool way to get stutter is to highlight all the chops, then move the endings of each chop toward the left so there’s space between each chop. Then fade the endings in a little. It’s a very quick way to get stutters.
Its awesome, I LOVE your tutorials but I think many users would love you to add chapters to this one, so they can skip known shortcuts, would that be a thing you would consider? Thanks so much !
I've been DAWless for a while, Logic Pro seems a bit more user friendly but Yamaha's Cubase is my 2nd go to as I own both the MODX6 and the MX49. Biggest pain in DAW's is getting the synths to work, particularly the MicroFreak, UNO and Monologue, just bought a Focusrite Solo will see if it gets easier.
Hello Dom, thanks for the good tutorials. I have to say that in Cubase Elements I couldn't find the "Cycle Selection" shortcut, maybe is a function of Cubase Pro.
Hey Dom , thanks for your videos ! I've learned so much tips ! could you make videos on grooves on cubase , in audio and midi files , that would be awesome ! Thanks for the video you've done so far !
Hey Dom, with regards to tip 3: Zoom in/out - You mention that Shift + G/H allows you to zoom in/out of the waveform, while using Alt + G/H affects the vertical zoom. However, my Cubase has Shift + G/H affecting the vertical zoom while Alt + G/H affects the waveform. Is the latter what you meant to say or did you swop these functions on your Cubase?
Dear Dom, thanks for all your videos, I follow them regularly. Is there any way I can create options like If I can type K my Kontakt will open or press O to open Omnisphere??
Man, the macros for putting selected channels to group or FX channels are so good! That was always something where Logic made it easier.. not anymore, it seems! I just started with Cubase again, I missed it ;)
Hey, “guru” is an Indian Hindi language word how would you know about this. By the way Whenever I came across your channel i always get the hidden and unique techniques appreciated you work ❤️❤️
I use Ctrl + K to bring up that Key Command window ("K" for Key). Always need to bring it up and search for commands that I've forgotten. Whatever Ctrl + K was assigned to before, I wasn't using. And I reassigned the Snap On/Off to be the A key. If you were taught to touch type, your left pinky will always be resting on the A key. Ctrl + Shift + 1 to add a new mono audio track (ie. "1" for 1 channel) and Ctrl + Shift + 2 for a new stereo audio channel (ie. "2" for 2 channels... makes sense to me) Ctrl + Shift + V for a new instrument track ("V" for VST in my mind) Ctrl + Alt + E to bring up the export window ("E" for export, obviously) I think that's a custom one too, but I'm not sure..?
Hello Dom, can you please point me out to how I save and export all my Cubase key commands and import them in a newer version of Cubase? (I think you talked about this in one of your videos, but I cannot remember which one). Thank you in advance if you choose to reply!
If anyone is interested, a while ago I built a tool that displays cubase shortcuts as a web page that can then e.g. be printed (alternatively a CSV file). It’s a single page web application , you need to download the html file and open it with Chrome or Firefox (safari might work, not tested). Sadly there is no way to get the localized names so it’s only in English. Also it can only display used key commands, not empty ones. github.com/janminor/cubase
Thanks for the video as always Dom! Rewatched this video because I forgotten some of the tips. Does anyone know how the Macro "Track To Group" works? It's not showing up on my Cubase 11 Pro and I've been trying to write my own macro similar to Dom's but the Group Channel just won't add into the same Folder as my tracks
bro ! I pleaaaase tell me how to trim an audio clip to selection like in protools! like cutting the head and the tail of a clip after I selected the part I wanna keep! thank you brother!
01:03 - instant chopping to quantize value - [scissors tool + alt + click]
2:06 - snap on/off - [J]
3:03 - zoom in / out - multiple shortcuts
4:07 - cycle selection - [alt+P]
5:20 - split range - [shift + X]
6:31 - quantize panel - [ctrl/cmd + alt + Q] - (custom)
7:31 - reset quantize - [ctrl/cmd + shift + Q] - (custom)
9:00 - how to set your own custom shortcuts
9:50 - add tracks - instrument [ctrl/cmd + alt + N] // audio [ctrl/cmd +shift + N] - (maybe custom)
10:29 - add selected tracks to group / fx channels - group [alt + shift + G] // fx [alt + shift + F]
11:15 - how to build macro commands
12:34 - insert marker - [insert]
13:05 - cycle marker - [ctrl/cmd + insert]
13:56 - quantize value - increase / decrease - [ "[" "]" ] - (custom)
14:56 - snap type - increase [ctrl/cmd + "]"] // decrease [ctrl/cmd + "["] - (custom)
Thanks a lot! 👍
Thx
Sooper brother.
@Debjit Roy Chowdhury It's Cubase brother 🙏
@Debjit Roy Chowdhury I was on Logic for years...finally switched last year. What I've found is that Cubase makes Logic look like a toy.
U r the Cubase God 😜!Work for more than 30 years with Cubase,but.... still can learn some stuff from you!Great work, like always!
Aren’t you glad Dom is batting for the cubase team. It’s like having a prize striker on your soccer team.
Ive been using cubase for all my music since cubase 3. And I knew none of these 😅😂 I WILL EVOLVE!!! 😆😆😆
tag me along in your evolution journey for I have been a fossil stuck in Cubase 5😂 😂 😂
Dude seriously lol, I knew like 3 🤣

The same here 🤣🤣🤣

Coming from ableton to try something fresh and your videos have been a god send 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thank you, Dom. Very useful.
I have a few already, however I definitely need to get better at my shortcuts. This was helpful for sure.
It really helps mate! Thanks! I subscribed for more cubase stuff :)
Dear Dom, I enjoy your videos a lot! I re-startetd making music with Cubase after many years. So, your videos really help me to get back into the swing of things. Keep up the great work!

I knew most of these but Dom always shows at least 1 thing I didn't know about! So glad I found his channel 😁
Nice and helpful teachings! 🙏
amazing!!! Thanks Dom
Thanks Dom, You are a Good teacher.
Can you please make a video on how to find the the accurate tempo of an a track in Cubase.
I love this video so dam much, and the top 20 Reasons cubase is the best DAW. I've gone back to both a dozen or so times since the 1st time.
God bless you bro.. these have been super helpful
Love the thumbnail Dom! 😍
Love it great shortcuts
You're so relaxing to watch man. Hands down the best Cubase teacher on UA-cam! Keep up the good vibes brother :)

Man, thanks for all of your crazy content. Guys like you are Angel for people who are trying to learn by themselves!!! Thanks again !
Super helpful Dom, many I wasn't up with (even though in e-manual of course! 😬 ....) 😎🎹👍🎼🍻
Excellent video. Thank you.
Thanks Dom. I learned a few easier methods of doing things. I appreciate these videos so much.
I barely knew any of these! thank you so much.
I have wasted so much time before watching this video
The add FX to channel macro is a game changer! Also the quantize value!
some handy shortcuts there Dom - some I didn't know! Curious to hear about any other macro's you've got in Cubase or general music production :-)
Very good tutorial
This will help me transition to mixing in Cubase quicker, thank you!
The view from your window is beautiful
Thanks Dom. Some useful ideas to add to my existing shortcuts
Thank you for all these shortcuts! I'm new to Cubase....just diving into it now and really trying to get a hold of it finally, it's all so very helpful! I'm trying to have some better workflow with my projects!
Thank you!
Amazing ! Thanks :)
As usual... very clear, and useful tut's. Great job Dom.
Greetings from Romania👍
Thanks friend; it was very useful !

Excellent clip, thanks Dom :-)
Thank you!
Thanks for that Chopping short cut Trip awsome
Hi ! You can deactivate snap on-the-go while moving event by pressing CMD on Mac.
You rock Mr. Sigalas! Ty for the helpful hints. I've also found you can set up shortcuts on your midi controllers as well. Very helpful 👍🏿
Hi Dom name is Ray (Floatwithme) a Dutch composer. I am glad that I have subscribed. great channel. Keep up that amazing work. Cheers Ray
Great video man 🤘

I like the quantise short cuts. Handy!! Good stuff

Hello Dom, thanks for the good tutorials. I have to say that in Cubase Elements I couldn't find the "Cycle Selection" shortcut, maybe is a function of Cubase Pro.
On Mac you can press and hold the command key and drag the part which is the same as pressing J, except when you let go it goes back to snap mode
Hey Dom , thanks for your videos ! I've learned so much tips ! could you make videos on grooves on cubase , in audio and midi files , that would be awesome ! Thanks for the video you've done so far !
Cycle markers are great!
The zooms work with the mouse scroll wheel, using shift, alt, ctrl..
EXCEPTIONAL AS EVER DOM!
thank you ! i lurn a lot !
"We all know G and H are zoom in and zoom out right? Good." Me after years of using Cubase...Um, I do now. Thanks!
Really nice and useful video for Cubase users! Keep it up Dom! :-)

Same for me!!! Thanks for replay!
Thank you
very useful.

The trouble with doing next quantize is that you lose all the other quantize settings that you have eg swing, rough quantize etc.
Thanks man .. very cool! Love your videos.
Thanks for watching Chris!
thanks so much
Hi dom, press shift plus mouse scroll, and Carlisle mouse scroll is very useful to move in your project...also use z key to make track large
On my keyboard it is ctrl+Mouse scroll
for moving things freely just hold "Command"
Hey, “guru” is an Indian Hindi language word how would you know about this. By the way
Whenever I came across your channel i always get the hidden and unique techniques appreciated you work ❤️❤️
Hi Dom, why don't you use the editors keyboard you can buy for around £100
Thank you so much! That was helpful.

hey i set reset quantize to control shift q as well
Thanks for all !
Thanks!
Thank you so much Allen, highly appreciate it ❤️
Great stuff
Anytime when I see "10 xxx" I expect clickbait, that, at best, provides 1-2 helful tips. This was a blast. Crazy good invest of 18 minutes.
