Dude, ctrl and up and down keys. What a time saver for zooming! Thanks :)
You're welcome!
Thank you.. I learned a lot from what was missing from me.. I liked the Qbiz program more.. Because of your beautiful effort.... Thank you very much
Hey Chris, use numpad 8 and 9 to open up and increase the efitor. 4 5 and 6 to load instruments audio or sampler channel....use that a lot.
My probably most used key command are custom ones that switch between predefined track visibility settings in the mixer: STRG+Num1 to Num4 for presets 1 to 4: all tracks, tracks plus group tracks fixed left, track plus sends fixed left, groups and sends. It helps prevent having to scroll horizontal too much in the mixer which is always a pita.
Chris, been watching you weekly for a few months now and I gotta say, every time I think I've got it all figured out you always manage to show me a different, more efficient way. alt+scissors!? Seriously :).Amazing. BTW, shift+delete is a great time saver for just deleting entire sections between the locators, (without the select tool.) Thanks for your work. Keep bringin it!
Lol... Don't worry about it, same here, I used to think I've got it all figured out with Cubase but the deeper I get the more I learn stuff.
This is the best cubase shortcut tutorial in youtube i have seen so far. Blessup!
Great video Chris, lots of excellent tips for everyone :) - Thank you for the mention and link, much appriciated! Top man.
You're welcome Marcus, thanks for sharing good Cubase content :-)
hey chris!!! very helpful! i think in 4.52 we talk about cut time!!!
Thanks once again Chris! A few of theseI knew, but the zooming shortcuts are a blessing, as well as the 'selection' cutting tool. Your vids are extremely helpful.
Thanks
I didn’t know any of these! Thank you.🎉
I guess another shortcut worth mentioning is „SHIFT+*“ (Shift and asterisk), for „retroactive record“.
I don’t need it very often, but it’s really helpful when you’ve been „just noodling around“ and think „oh wait, that wasn’t actually that bad, I wish I recorded that!“
Thanks for that shortcut. Retroactive record has saved me several times when I've been playing around to come up with ideas. Then I can never remember where it is in the menus...
Thanks for that. Is it only MIDI and not audio?
I looked in the manual and it mentions retrospective MIDI recording that utilizes the MIDI buffer, once you turn it on in settings.
I created a couple of useful ones myself:
- The key above tab (don't know its name) for activate and deactivate tracks.
- Shift + F1 to open/close the instrument linked to an instrument track. I use kontakt a lot, this one is saving me.
Thank you for these useful shortcut, i'll try tok memorize all of them XD
Awesome! Thanks fro sharing! The video transcript is available on my website with the Shortcuts highlighted mixdown.online/en/my-top-favorite-cubase-keyboard-shortcuts/
As a brand new Cubase user videos like yours are unbelievably helpful for learning the DAW I plan to use for life!! Really appreciate the time and effort you put into helping others further their passions!
Only one thing threw me off in this video. The shortcut for removing a selection and shifting everything that follows. I kept trying shift & del, which of course kept bringing up the warning for deleting a track with data. Then I realized it's shift & backspace! Now I know it, that will be quite useful!
Great to hear!
Excellent tips!!! I've been needing these shortcuts for a long time. Got to write them down!!!
Awesome Tim. The video transcript is available on my website with the Shortcuts highlighted :-) mixdown.online/en/my-top-favorite-cubase-keyboard-shortcuts/
Thanks Chris, even after using Cubase/Nuendo for a decade, still learning things! As someone who's producing a lot of voice over / podcast, my absolute number one is a custom one: Direct Offline Process a HPF (at around 600Hz) to plosives, breathing, krrr sounds or anything where unintentional/uncontrolled moving air has lots of low end. I'm using bx_cleansweep and at one point I had multiple instances installed and hotkeyed, that would all have different freq values as their default setting.
Oh and also I removed "Z" for track zoom. When working with multiple automation lanes and accidentally hitting that key, all your other carefully prepared zoom settings for each track or lane go to sh*t.
Same here, I did that a lot with the "Z" key..Lol!
I beleive it is said in video that to ripple/time delete a selected area, the key is SHIFT-Delete, but it seems to be SHIFT-Backspace in CuBase 11.
Thnx again, chris. Your tutorials are always very usefull. I made some key commands myself like 'events to part' & 'bounce selection' and others but that are the two I use the most....
This is excellent. Thumbs up!
You da man, Chris, my Favourite shortcuts are P and Alt+G. I also made my own CTRL+ALT+D for duplicating a track without events.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing brother :-)
Really helpful! Thanks.
Thanks Chris valued info
Hi Chris. Love your channel so much!!!! and I am happy owner of your Mixing Premium Course ;). It would be nice to find out what are the shortcuts for M-S-R-W buttons when you want to Mute all/Solo all, edit all. Thank you very very much :) Good luck with new videos.
Great video again as usual Chris! Definitely one to bookmark and refer back to. I love using shortcuts and I've been learning them slowly but there's so many it's taking a while to learn them all. BTW, I have a Logitech G510s keyboard with 3 banks of 18 G-keys and a Logitech G13 gameboard with 3 banks of 24 G-keys. These keys are programmable so I can put any shortcuts on them, or even macros (a series of keypresses). I'm sure they'll be really useful once I decide which shortcuts to put where, but at the moment I'm still overwhelmed by the sheer number of them!
Never thought of using these types of keyboards, thanks for sharing!
Thank you Chris. I'll use the Range select, A, to place fades at at the beginning or end of the track/s.
Great video! Very informative and I like how you get right to it! In fact you move along quite fast. I've made a cheat-sheet of these so I will remember to use them. I've procrastinated using keyboard shortcuts for years and your video here has further exposed all the time I've been wasting! Much appreciate the info!
Shift Delete also works with the loop markers.
Great video man 🤘
One of my useful shortcut is the copy paste by dragging:
- select a region or a group of midi notes
- point the mouse on that region and press "option" key ( "scissor on a square" will appear)
- drug the region, or selected midi notes, that will be copied where you drop it
I customized my shortcuts in a heavy way, and my favorites are "ö" to link and unlink selected tracks; "Strg-Alt-NUM+"/"Strg-Alt-NUM-" to show or hide selected tracks and "Strg-Shift-first letter" to show or hide the racks in the console window.
Love it! Thanks fro sharing!
awesome vid !! i've set up my own for these \ open and closes a vst and ] open ad closes a channel rack then you can use tab to move up and down the channel rack ... just very handy and straight forward for my workflow.
Very useful shortcuts, just wish that they were more organized into sections so it is easier to take notes. Thanks, though, these will help a lot!
Hi Chris I don't how you do it, but you always helpful, I learned so much from you. Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome!
Alt+Click with scissor tool on a midi note to do a quantize cut is awesome! thanks for the tip!
You're welcome!
You're the Cubase King!
In the MIDI window, if you do control+left or right with a midi note selected it'll move the note over by the quantize amount. Also, if you hold alt and hover your mouse over the note it'll turn into the scissor tool.
One quick key that I made that is super handy for me is for "Bounce Selection" and I made it to be shift+alt+3 (stolen from Pro Tools). I use this a lot for when I use the audio alignment tool and need to break the audio into smaller chunks for it to work right.
Same here, "Bounce Selection" in my case is set up to "Y" Thanks for sharing your shortcuts :-)
Hey Chris I recently bought a copy of cubase pro 10 and I'm not sure if you covered this in a video but could you please make a video on how to route all vst, virtual instruments, and plugins to their proper location in cubase?
Like a complete beginner help type of video
I'm planning on working on a beginner's video series soon
thanks for the video very helpful, just need help on stop/start with cubase, i use studio one pro and now using cubase as well but i like how studio one when you stop it goes back to where you start playing from until you change it, cubase stops and starts from where you stop how can i change that settings in cubase like studio one please? cheers
Yes! Go to EDIT...PREFERENCES...TRANSPORT and add a check mark to "Return to start position on stop"
Very useful - thanks Chris!
You're welcome!
Perfect, thank you.
My favorite one is the equivalent to Pro Tools "tab to transient" Alt+N to go to next transient, Alt+B to go to previous transient.
Yes, that's a good one! Tyhanks for sharing!
No problem finding transients. They seem to be on every corner these days! lol!
Thank you for this video!
Hi Chris,
Great session as always! =)
You activated the offline processing window by one of the shortcuts which is great but is there an easy way to see which events in the project that are offline processed? When I want to bounce a clean project without any effects I often miss the effects that I have added via offline processing. It would be great if there was a way to highlight all offline processed events in one go in somehow. Do you know any way to do that? =)
Cheers!
I don't think there is. The way I use OP is when I want to add effects on some events and commit to them, like a recording. So if I bounce a clean project, those will be part of the "clean" tracks like if I had recorded them with effects.
great explanation as always :) may favorite shortcut is ALT+ B
hello, could you do a video about how to using prue keyboard only for editing? it will help a lot for people want more effictive.
here is some topic idea:
1 how to editing real drum track use only keyboard.
2 how to recording vocal or instrum use only keyboard
3 how to do midi writing use only keyboard
4 how to mix use only keyboard
Hey Chris!
Quite a fan of your content. Simple and precise!
I was looking for a specific shortcut for days on cubase (with a control surface). In Pro tools, you can Ctrl+Shift+ClickonTrack and the control surface will automatically set its bank over this selected tracks. I am having a hard time seeing all the motorized fader go crazy whenever I switch the banks to reach a specific track. Do you know any tip that could help me out on this ?
Thank you et bonne journee par chez vous, qu'on dit !
You packed a lot of info in there. That'll take a few more views to sink in. Great tips for navigating around.
Custom shortcuts I find useful are: Zoom to Locators ; Analyse Audio Statistics and Reset Meters
Yes, those are good Shortcuts, thanks for sharing! Also, the video transcript is available on my website with the shortcuts highlighted! In case you need it: mixdown.online/en/my-top-favorite-cubase-keyboard-shortcuts/
Great tips Chris. Alt+ click drag n drop to copy an event.
Thanks for sharing John!
Hi Chris, thanks for the tips. What computer keyboard are you using? (the one shown in this video with the labels)
Hi Chris, good tips here thanks
Of course!
thanks Chris! I use the shortcut 'K' to open the keyboard shortcuts dialogue !
You're welcome! Thanks for sharing :-)
Merci Chris.
Thanks!
Hi Chris. How to inverse the direction of Shift + Mouse Wheel ?
Hello Chris, Quick one for you ... How do you get the F keys to work in Cubase under Windows 10 ?
The F key for Autoscroll?
@@mixdownonline None of my Cubase Fkey command work ... exemple F3 should open the console ... but for me nothing ! There`s probably some Fkey already assigne to windows`s fonction but I can`t find where to change them
nice video❤
thanks
Welcome
The only thing people (IMHO) need to know about Cubase shortcuts is the Key commands setup menu. Customise!! And then the frustration: Commands may not have the same name as they do in the user interface..
Is there a shortcut to loop an event? Example: i select a 4 bar event of a drum that i want to loop. I just want to press a couple of keys to copy that event and paste it immediately after it in the timeline
wow!!! this is my most favorite video you created ever....
Awesome!
This is Gold!
Hi Chris,
Again, an excellent summary of lots of key commands. (Lots of them was new for me)... Even since I started with Cubase on Atari....
I have seen in your video, that you have a very nice Keyboard. What is this kind of Keyboard.
Since years I use a logitech Keyboard with shortcut-stickers on it. But now after about 2 years, they are starting to peel off.
Would be kind of you to name the keyboard that you use, I work with Microsoft, not Apple.
Cheers from Munich.
That's the one I use ua-cam.com/video/XqZxpocoDPY/v-deo.html They have win and apple models
Great video.
GRACIAS
De nada Manuel!
My Shortcut - "Close all plug-in Windows" - (Command +Esc)
thanks fro sharing!
How do you do this in Windows?
@@deandouglas3855 I don't think there's a key command setup in Windows. You can add one, go into Keyboard Commands and find "Windows: Close All Plug-Ins' (That's in 9.5 Pro, not sure if it's changed in 10)
@@deandouglas3855 Ctrl+Esc
Try V
Chris what keyboard are you using? I've got to have one of those!
Check it out ua-cam.com/video/XqZxpocoDPY/v-deo.html
I thought that's what it was. A little rich for my blood. Guess I'll have to ask Santa for this one! Thanks, love your stuff! Keep it coming!
All your are very welcome to my cubase word! Help me a lot! Thanks!
Do u know how to make the cursor follow the start of a event selection start point. Automaticaly with mouse click not a Hot key.
is there a shortcut for "create New Track?
Is it possible to do vertical zoom (shift+g) by using the mouse wheel on Mac?
I don't think so
Sir what is short key locator
You one at one ,i understand very good.Im German.👍
Happy you understand well :-)
Top Mano!
Thanks!
New to cubase, how can you move the cursor left and right on a laptop?
On a laptop, you will have to set that up yourself cause those commands are on the NUM Pad by default. Go on Edit...Key Commands...Search for REWIND - FORWARD - FAST REWIND and FAST FORWARD and assign those to the keys of your choice
My shift + delete is not working.... I've selected that range that I wanna delete (Range selection) but it deletes my whole track......
It's shift backspace
whenever i add or remove -audio/group/fx tracks or adding/removing plugins makes cubase stuck for a second ? is it my problem or its a cubase problem ??
Don't worry about it, it's a Cubase thing and same for other DAWs
8:51 CTRL+A I think that got cut out of the video :)
You notice everything Axel Lol... CTRL+A is a general shortcut for most softwares and not specific to Cubase ;-)
"SHIFT+DEL" have now been replaced with "SHIFT+BACKSPACE"
You go it!
Export shortcut key??
Look for "Export Audio Mixdown" in the Key Commands to create one :-)
i see how people copy and drag their audio file under the original without deleting the original. How ??
I need a Schablone for Windows 10.somebody an Idea?
Hey Kaleido Skop, was meinst Du mit Schablone ?
Does anyone knows how to use the W shortcut?
CRTL+ W will Close your Project. "W" by itself is not link to a specific command.
@@mixdownonline
In the manual it says
Write. W
@@mixdownonline I Think it might have something to do with automation.
Schade zu spät eingeschaltet.
Me demoré mucho en encontrar Shift + X demasiado tiempo como para mencionarlo xd
I love Google Translate, Lol! Same here, since I found Shift + X , I use it all the time :-)
Two dudes don't like shortcuts, thanks
Lol! Ah, what are gonna do! Thanks for watching :-)
My favorite shortcut when you can't get your recording right: alt + f4
😂 yeah, in this case, that would be useful!
