For the lovely folks that say this is possible with Trackspacer and/or Fabfilter Pro-Q3: Yes, it kind of is, but you will need to add multiple instances of the plugins to have separate sidechain INPUTS like I do here on the video. Don't confuse sidechain *sources* with sidechain *inputs* they are a very, very different thing :)
That sounds about right... you can also use Soothe 2 for this, and Neutron too. I really wish Ableton would copy some of this functionality into eq8 though.
Bitwig doesn't even support multiple sidechain sources (without hacking together a cluttered mess of multiple audio receivers), let alone multiple inputs. Similarly, it doesn't support multi-out vst instruments either. I don't understand why that is because their modulator routing is arguably best in class, and is the reason I have it. If only Cubase had modulator routing like Bitwig. It'd be the perfect DAW. Well, almost perfect due to the inspiration-killing audio drop outs when adding plugins. After working in Bitwig extensively I find the audio drop outs in Cubase to be unacceptable at this point. That said, imo Cubase is perhaps the most well rounded and feature rich DAW available (a true workhorse), and Bitwig is, for me anyway, the most inspiring and creative DAW around. Yes, in bitwig studio, there are ways to accomplish this using the audio sidechain modulator. You can have as many as your would like. In Logic I just load 2 instances of the plugin. But yes, would be better with multiple side-chains. But I usually try with ProQ3, Soothe2, Trackspacer and sometimes Gullfoss. So maybe I want to use a different plugin for the other freq. range anyway.
This technique can be done in Studio one but not with one plugin for multiple elements as Dom do here. I think you can do that technique with others EQs on the market as the Pro Q3 by fabfilter or Kirchhoff-EQ. But this is a great example on how to make space into a mix. Nice video by the way!

wow! thats so badass. Thank you
Excellent stuff, and this could add subtle movement that the brain will pick up, and make the track more interesting.
Oh really thank You, i've been using Cubase for 5years, and i just know This amazing Eq can do the unique Sidechain today! and u always Give the good explain and Tips. :) 😍
Thank you so much for the Video, Much Appriecated for the knowledge you Share ..! Lots of Love :)
Wow. Life changer. So beautiful. Like an artist painting with the brush. ❤
another insightful demonstration. no doubt Dom is the no.1 Cubase Guru
Awesome advice, Dom! Thank you very very much!
Yes, absolute GOLD! Bookmarked this video, it's my go to video for mixing. I changed from Cakewalk by Bandlab to Cubase 6 months ago, and with your great tutorials, I am so happy. Love Cubase and your advice and the way you present is so great and easy to understand! THANK YOU SO MUCH! 💖 👍
In Logic I just load 2 instances of the plugin. But yes, would be better with multiple side-chains. But I usually try with ProQ3, Soothe2, Trackspacer and sometimes Gullfoss. So maybe I want to use a different plugin for the other freq. range anyway.
The magic of unmasking 🪄🧞. Thanks for this video Dom!
Dom is a living legend! One of the nicest guys too. Keep it up Dom!
This trick had helped me a lot in my mixing which has changed my life
❤️❤️❤️
I love your grin when you activate the side chain, because same
DOM YOU ROCK BRO !!!!!!!!!!
What a great video man! You are phenomenal! All the best best best⭐️
This is great thanks. Can't wait to try it.
Wonderful tutorial. Great work!
This technique can be done in Studio one but not with one plugin for multiple elements as Dom do here. I think you can do that technique with others EQs on the market as the Pro Q3 by fabfilter or Kirchhoff-EQ. But this is a great example on how to make space into a mix. Nice video by the way!
Indeed! Or you can use Trackspacer which also works great. But yes, you will need multiple instances of it :)
This was extremely useful to learn. I switched to Cubase about a year ago and still learning. Your tutorials have been a great source. I was using external plugins to achieve this result but I am so surprised and shocked to learn Cubase has it built-in. Shows I gotta explore the DAW more. Thanks again Dom!
Now that, is pretty F'n slick!!. Guess I need to start using Freq2 😉
This can take the place of various automation moves on different tracks. Powerful stuff, thank you! ☺🙏
Great tip! Wasn't aware that F2 has multiple sc inputs. Thanks🙂
Wow Dom! I’ve been waiting for this high level of explanation for side chain in freq2 told so simply that even I can understand it and you nailed superbly as always! Thanks so much! ❤
You can also do this with stock plugins from FL Studio and Ableton!
Those vocals sound like butter. Very nice.
Every time I start to think I need a new expensive plugin Dom comes along with a video explaining how to easily accomplish my goals using stock plugins! Damn. Thanks 👏
When playing with my new Cubase 12pro, I discovered this function of Frequency 2 and I said, this is really amazing. Every day I am happier that I left Avid in the past. Good luck Avid! Your videos are always great and you transmit enthusiasm! thank you!
I've been doing this since the moment multiple sidechains were introduced.. truly the best daw!
What a difference... great track, amazing vocals, wonderful intro. thx for this brilliant tip
I love the use of stock plugins for critical moves such as this. Not only is it a classic use of ducking to make mixes clearer but also showing the power of the stock plugins and vindication of the investment we all made in buying Cubase instead of another DAW or in a third party plugin. Bravo!
I wish I had this video about two months ago for the track I was working on at the time. It could still help me now to go back and remaster some tracks.
Great video as usual! Bravo Dom!
Hey George! Thank you so much ❤️
Great video Dom! And killer vocalist ⭐️
Curious if you will be doing a cubasis 3.5 update video soon? 🤞🏻
Great PRO MIXING tip! Thanks for the inspiration! As I am producing electronic music this is a great technique to make my tracks more organic! Thanks a lot!
What a great tips... Thanks my dear friend
Wow thanks for this I'm working on a song where the Rhodes also provide the main harmony and clashes with lead vocals I now know how to fix
Brother, this is an awesome technique. Thank you for keeping me excited about mixing.
