Hack 11: Many people don't know that its actually possible to have multiple "Channel Settings" windows open at the same time. @ 2:32 just down to the right of your cursor, there is a tiny white triangle pointing down. Click on it and un-tick the "follow button or selection changes". Now you can open the Channel Settings of another channel, without the first one going away.
Ok... I think this may as good (or better). You click the 'e' button to open your channel settings, ok... but if you want to look at another channel without closing your first, you use the Alt key + the 'e' button of another channel you want to edit at the same time. Now you have two windows/dialogue boxes open. Unfortunately, they are overlaid but you can move 'em! 😊
Excellent video Chris. More of this kind of thing please. I’ve been using Nuendo for 20 years but it’s such a vast DAW that every day’s a school day. I actually didn’t know you could drag inserts to DOP. That’s brilliant!
First off Happy 25th wedding anniversary to you and your wife congratulations. I always forget how many cool features there are inside Cubase thanks for reminding me
Cubase hacks are always appreciated, guaranteed there's always some little function that's been hiding from me... And thank goodness for the mix console undo..I've been so frustrated with vsts not undoing.. User error once again 😍
@@HenryMittnacht It is really useful for mixing, or getting ready to master, or when the arrangement is set. There is no more chasing the cursor, or adding excessive tail time just in case.
On some CAD programs which also feature undo/redo commands, some also have an "oops" command which allows one to undo to a specific cammand, press oops and then redo the previously undone steps, thereby eliminating a particular command done earlier without having to now re-perform the other undone steps. I've often thought that would be a neat enhancement to cubase's history finctions.
I have been using most of these already, BUT the offline processing tip and automation trim are great, and are added to my workflow, thanks! Event he clip name trick is handy, didn't know I could turn that off from being added to the name on the event. All VERY NICE, and I've been on Cubase since it was on the Atari computer without a hard drive! Nuendo now, since I mix mainly in my 7.1.4 room in Atmos.
I use a gaming mouse with extra knobs. One of them is set to regular undo and the other to mixer undo (Alt/Opt + Z by default) A great improvement that I can only recommend because you don't even have let go of your mouse. And for a redo of either of the two just hold down the shift key :) Great for quick A/B comparisons of parameter changes of your plugin(s). 😌
Very useful hacks. Thanks. I've been using trim since I saw it in one of your previous videos. Also, if you are happy with the new trim level on your automation you can choose to freeze the trim from the little dropdown triangle on the right side of the automation panel to bake it in.

Well, I'm a long time fan, but I confess when I saw this video I went, "ho hum, another video with some things even I already know..." WRONG! Every one of these an absolute gem. Really hard to pick, but Event Snap Point pretty sweet, also Mix Console History, which I could have used just about 10 mins ago, when I tried the regular undo (even though I knew from past experience wasn't going to work). Thanks Chris for sharing these valuable time savers!
Dude, thank you so much for these videos. Super helpful. Question, under the inspector section, the quarter note music symbol, what's that used for? I've always noticed that since I used Nuendo 4.
Fantastic tips! I don't think I can use Pro Tools ever again. Cubase is so much more powerful and I thank you for always sharing your knowledge. I've learned so much.
Great tips, Chris, those are very valuable, the one I will improve upon is to define short cuts for making use of the mix console history. One question regarding project duration. How can we measure the total duration of time we recorded and edited the Project? I know there are some 3rd party tools out there to accomplish this, but any tips for standard functionality?
great tips, fantastic video as always, thanks alot 05:00 i always use the Description of Audio Events to write down important data, for example on guitar tracks which guitar i have use and which Kemper profile, that way its easy for me to read and replicate.
So many great tips that will really help, however, resetting the bar start point is awsome. This has always really annoyed me, but now i can have it reading the true bar position of my song, thanks.
Great tips and tricks. Is there a way to have folders in the arrangement reflected in the mixer? So if I have tracks in a folder and have them routed to an auxiliary track can those tracks be easily hidden in the mixer to lower clutter visually?
No, there's no folders on the mixer itself, but you will see the folders in the Left Zone' track list under the Visibility Tab where you can hide/show tracks!
