A Ghost is Born is 20 yrs old now. I’m 26, I know the whole album by heart. growing up my dad would play it, along with other Wilco of course. This song holds so much in my heart. I don’t know how I can listen to this, or any other Wilco when my dad passes. I like reading other people’s comments and seeing how much Wilco has touched them. And how that was 10-15 years ago. So cool. Wonder what you are up to now.

@sashag79 They did an album (Mermaid Avenue) with Billy Bragg where they took Woody Guthrie lyrics that had never been set to music and wrote music for them. In doing so, they tried to write the music they way they thought Woody would have done it. The Woody Guthrie Foundation asked Billy Bragg to do it and and Bragg invited Wilco to participate.
@serbwithblade This is true, but when you hear today's music, do you not hear a bunch of computerized sounds with the same generic drum beat? So yeah, The Beatles' music was enhanced, but they played their guitars and their drums in the studio rather than using some computer program. It is handy, though, which is why they use it.

the reason the beatles became famous is because their music was just awesome and appealed to all people basically. today people listen to music because today's music is enhanced to appeal to today's idiots... some mainstream stuff is good. radiohead is mainstream even though they dont wanna be, but i believe their music is amazing and has influenced me. wilco isnt very mainstream but they're great. ive just been introduced to this kinda music and i love it. todays mainstream radio music sucks :D
I know it's the world's biggest cliche, but this sounds very Beatles-ish, Mccartney's Maxwells silverhammer or something like that (if that song was good)
@TRusheeRush Ghost is Born is my favorite album from them, but I still think it's debatable. In fact, Jay might've even made that one better, might've made that 15-minute black hole/ambient song interesting.

And the fact that there is a lot of mainstream music is pointless is completely irrelevant. You said they hardly wrote any songs that weren't very meaningful, I'm just saying that they did write a lot of songs that were unmeaningful when they first started out. That being said they are still one of the Greatest Bands EVER
