The atmosphere of this song is second to none, as is the the general feel of all of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. I have never encountered an album that has been close to the same level of atmosphere that this one has. Perfect song from a perfect album.
Kurt Vonnegut described the combined effect of artists across all disciplines to bring about the end of the Vietnam war through their work as that of "dropping a flan from a step ladder". This led him to conclude that the new function of art is let you know you are not alone. Wilco works for me...
I wish Wilco went back to this type of sound... Rest in peace to the legend, Jay Bennet. The man was a genius who just as integral to the sounds of their finest albums (Being There, Summerteeth, YHFT) as Tweedy.
"Our distance has no way of making love understandable" This song hits so close to home for me on many levels. Mainly because there IS something wrong with me! ;-P
Wilco raises the state of the art of music. The record industry is failing, radio stations are running scared and it is because the industry has forgotten how to promote true artists like Wilco.
I really like this group. they are not typical but come off as approachable and that's a good thing. Wilco know's how the deliver to the deeppest parts of the human condition a beatiful dark imitation of life.
"Radio Cure" Cheer up, honey, I hope you can There is something wrong with me My mind is filled with silvery stars Honey, kisses, clouds of fog Shoulders shrugging off Cheer up, honey, I hope you can There is something wrong wit h me My mind is filled with radio cures Electronic surgical words Picking apples for kings and queens of things I have never seen Oh, distance has no way of making love understandable Cheer up, honey, I hope you can There is something wrong with me My mind is filled with silvery stars Honey, kisses, clouds of fog Picking apples for the kings and queens of things I've never seen Oh, distance has no way of making love understandable Oh, distance has no way of making love understandable Oh, distance has no way of making love understandable Oh, distance the way of making love understandable Oh, distance the way of making love understandable Cheer up honey, I hope you can...
This has to be one of the saddest and most transparent songs of all times. It just gets me every time. Jeff sounds so much like Jerry Garcia and i don't even like the Dead. Has to be one of my top ten songs of all time. He had to have written this when he was at his absolute worst with drug addiction.
love how this is so understated, compared to the album version. im new to wilco, and this song is my favourite song so far. its inspiring to listen to.
It means being oblivious to the importance people have in other spheres of life, not just doing the mundane thing you're doing (ie. riding an elevator, picking an apple.)
She is the not right person for you right now, but now you know what you do not want and what you do want. When you align with that. It wont matter who she is. You can call her any name and it will be right!!
Cheer up, honey, I hope you can There is something wrong with me My mind is filled with silvery stuff Honey kisses, clouds of fluff Shoulders shrugging off Cheer up honey, I hope you can There is something wrong with me My mind is filled with radio cures Electronic surgical words Picking apples for kings and queens of things I've never seen Oh, distance has no way of making love understandable

exactly that order is perfect But its still very close. Comparing the bands that released Funeral/Neon Bible, Ok Computer/The Bends, and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot/A Ghost is born is nearly impossible
@Blondejack2003 Verse - D A E D Pre-Chorus (end of verse / picking apples) - A A/G F# G D/F# A G F# Chorus (distance has no way) - F# Ebm Bbm B D F# Break - E D then back into verse

Cool, cool - I recognized yanqui (because of Banditos Yanquis in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid") so I thought I'd take a stab. Is yanqui informal? Is it derogatory?
the national-maybe they havent put out an album yet that blew me away but theyre ok shins- im a fan but they're nowhere near the level of wilco radiohead or arcade fire
I really like this group. they are not typical but come off as approachable and that's a good thing. Wilco know's how the deliver to the deeppest parts of the human condition a beatiful dark imitation of life.
“Where are you, Jay Bennett?” For anyone who loves Wilco and haven’t watched it yet. Thank you Jay. RIP
Remember Jay Bennett. A genius of our times. RIP

Jon Slusar In Rainbows
Go listen to Kid A by Radiohead! It’s a must if you like unique atmosphere.
*Distance has no way of making love understandable.*

So true. The producing on this album is unreal.
What Jay was able to capture was pure magic.
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is truly a gem for the ages.
how can anyone not love the last minute or so of this song ??
*I’d say the whole song
wilco, radiohead and arcade fire...
… great bands
Interpol, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, The National
"Our distance has no way of making love understandable"
This song hits so close to home for me on many levels. Mainly because there IS something wrong with me! ;-P
The song that made me fall in love with Wilco.
Painfully good, seriously!
Wilco raises the state of the art of music. The record industry is failing, radio stations are running scared and it is because the industry has forgotten how to promote true artists like Wilco.
i recommend taking an ambien and listening to this as u fall asleep
Wilco are the most under rated band in the world! Fantastic and fantastic tunes!
Whoever was holding the camera to Tweedy's left side was doing genius work. Everything about those shots works so incredibly well.
Wilco Radiohead and Arcade Fire are the 3 most important bands right now
14 years later, I don’t really hope you’re gonna read this. But, hell yeah, my fellow human! Right on!
I really like this group. they are not typical but come off as approachable and that's a good thing. Wilco know's how the deliver to the deeppest parts of the human condition a beatiful dark imitation of life.
my mind is filled with silvery stars
I love the synth effect that comes in at 2:29 its so tasteful.
"Radio Cure"
Cheer up, honey, I hope you can
There is something wrong with me

Yet another great song by Wilco.
love how this is so understated, compared to the album version. im new to wilco, and this song is my favourite song so far. its inspiring to listen to.
this is pretty much as good as it gets
one of my favs.
"distance has no way of making love". that's a true statement, and it never fails.
It means being oblivious to the importance people have in other spheres of life, not just doing the mundane thing you're doing (ie. riding an elevator, picking an apple.)
i saw jeff do a solo show in california and it was incredible.
absolutely brilliant
Awesome, so close, so very close.......
I honestly thought I'd never find a band as good imo as Nine Inch Nails. This is stirring me.
Mesmerizing. Beautiful.
This documentary is so good.
Sublime.
Sublime and Beautiful.
gorgeous
Best Wilco Ever
Thanks for the post. I think it's one of his better songs.
can't wait to see them live.
love this one...best wilco song imo. ISnt the song in some alternate tuning tho?

Bravo!!!
@MrBrianojee Amazing how you could interpret Vonnegut that way, let alone in any way.
could you imagine the live version of this with Jay Bennett??? Bah god!
Cheer up honey, I hope you can
There is something wrong with me
My mind is filled with silvery stars
Honey kisses, clouds of love

Long distance has a way of making love understandable
Where can I find #IamTryingToBreakYourHeart #AFilmaboutwilco ? Is it on UA-cam, anywhere?
Does anyone know exactly what 'Picking apples with kings and queens of things I've never seen' means? Awesome sounding line, but srsly. wtf?
the animal crossing ass synth in the chorus with the portamento or whatever is pretty cool
Naomily 4ever!!!
exactly that order is perfect But its still very close. Comparing the bands that released Funeral/Neon Bible, Ok Computer/The Bends, and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot/A Ghost is born is nearly impossible
jeff tweedy looks a bit like a mischievous altar boy as he sings this.
ah, distance has no way of making love understandable. BEST WILCO SONG!
Cheer up, honey I hope you can
It's an unfortunate world we live in
this song is hella snoozin
@Blondejack2003
Verse - D A E D
Pre-Chorus (end of verse / picking apples) - A A/G F# G D/F# A G F#
Chorus (distance has no way) - F# Ebm Bbm B D F#
Break - E D
then back into verse
starts on E
verse is basically just D A and E, but not always in that order...
turnaround at end of verse is:
A A/G F# G
pre-chrous (picking apples...)
D D/C# A G F# G
chorus (distance has no way...)
F# F#/F D#m A# B D F#
etc...
There's something mesmeric and disturbing about this song.
When is he going to be on American Idol? He needs a big break!
Fucking amazing.
Like best comment ive ever read on youtube. easily
Hahaha. I think that infamous Cash picture makes anyone holding an acoustic guitar like that looks like him.
Did you say "My favorite American band right now?"
@GhostLate couldn't agree more
I’ve seen them a zillion times, they’ve never done this song. I think it belongs to Jay😢
Cool, cool - I recognized yanqui (because of Banditos Yanquis in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid") so I thought I'd take a stab. Is yanqui informal? Is it derogatory?
@CicconeYouth04 I know what you mean, man. It sucks when they do that.
No, I didn't take it that way - I mean, you dig Wilco, obviously - I was just curious if it's usually derogatory.
What the heck is oxy withdrawel?
Hey!! It sounds like opiate addiction!! Tastes like it too!!!!
Theres something about Tweedy that reminds me of Johnny Cash in this video
elegiac
I'm so gay for Jeff sometimes.
he looks like johnny cash in this clip
It's not really an interpretation. I'm not interpreting him, just quoting and paraphrasing him I suppose
Distance has no way of making love understandable. Why oh why did I think it was a good idea to date a tour roadie...shit
the national-maybe they havent put out an album yet that blew me away but theyre ok
shins- im a fan but they're nowhere near the level of wilco radiohead or arcade fire
skins :D
grow up honey, i hope you can.
My favorite Wilco song, that I never listened to for the longest time because it starts off so dismal and boring.
I really like this group. they are not typical but come off as approachable and that's a good thing. Wilco know's how the deliver to the deeppest parts of the human condition a beatiful dark imitation of life.
