Hi Julia im a recently retired long distance truck driver here in Australia, most of my time on the road was scheduled work between Adelaide and Melbourne night time running so the freight which was perishables was in the DC for consumption that day.Funny i watch a lot of Aviation utube as it was always my dream to be a Pilot but that never happened ,i have to say your channel has shown me your job isnt as glamourous as i always thought FA lives were ,hell you work as hard and long hour as an interstate Trucky ,but at least you get nice lay overs.
    Cheers kym

Hi Julia, just wanted to let you know. You said something in your video about if someone knows a truck driver.
My husband is a truck driver. He drives PA, OH, VA.
He usually have to wait in truckstop or the place where they load him up. He sleeps in his truck. Because sometime he goes away for two weeks or so. ( I know one thing I won’t do what he does) ☺️
I know every job has a positive and negative side. I think your job is more interesting than his.
Take care , Julia, keep a the good videos.

My husband is a truck driver. Not gone for long periods of time. Usually overnight or 3 or 4 days out. Doesn't usually drive during the night. When he gets back he puts his name on the list and gets dispatched according to where he is on the list. No set schedule. But retiring soon!!! Yay!!!!

Hi Julia! Kinda long read about my trucking lifestyle, but hopefully not too much, it's about 1 min. 30 sec long of a read, but it sorta documents things about my trucking life in a bit of a nutshell:
I have been an OTR truck driver for around 33 years. Scheduling is very irregular, and in some cases, we have to wake up at outrageous times to make deliveries that are only accepted at maybe 3am, but thankfully it doesn't happen daily. My job has taken me from Fresno, CA to Lewiston ME and back to Bakersfield, CA in the past (that happened only once), but for the most part, I can be found going from California to any of the southeastern states, or the Midwest and Northeast region (like New Jersey or PA). I'm not married, nor do I have kids, so because I consider myself to be a "free agent", I sometimes stay on the road for 2-4 months at a time. Yes it does get lonely, and during one particular period of time more than 4 years ago, depression became "dangerous" to the point where I needed to do something, otherwise... I managed to dodge the "you know what" (figuratively of course) after a few changes in my lifestyle and some added activities and "ventures", and now things are going extremely well for me, and guess what... Life is good! Talk about overcoming danger though, LMAO! Trucking is a very interesting animal, and that animal has many different temperaments that one needs to watch out for, but if it's done right, a person can become extremely successful. If you know someone, go on a ride-along with him/her, I think you would enjoy it. BTW, one more quick observation you might find interesting: If you ever see a truck taking forever to pass another vehicle, chances are that the truck trying to pass (and the one being passed) has a speed limiter programmed, which can normally be anything between 65 and 72 MPH. This is the case with pretty much most of the industry, with the exception of some small Owner Operator fleets. Hope that covers some of it at least LOL!

Hi Julia. I live not too far from you in Huntingdon Valley PA. I haul heavy construction equipment on a 53 foot tractor trailer. I start 5:30 a.m. and finish whenever the schedule is done for the day. Was just in Doylestown last week delivering. We start early to get a jump on traffic like you do. My driving radius is about 150 miles. I see lots of interesting places and real rural towns as well. Keep up the great videos and give Luna a belly scratch for me.

As l think l mentioned earlier, l'm a retiIred Marine Engineer. Around the World several times. Loved it. But, get older. Climbing Ladders etc. Becomes more difficult. So l retired from Military Sealift Command in Apr. 2014. I love trux and figured l'd get a Class A lic. which l did from CRST "Crustie - Cedar Rapids Steel Transport". Love OTR trucking also. It's identical to tramp shipping in bidness model. You go where dispatch gets contracts. Thus been alI over the lower 48. I much prefer W. to E. Too crowded back East and LOW BRIDGES! Crazy. RealIy gotta watch out! Drove mostly dry vans (53' trailers) and some reefers. Delivered one tank trailer. You take what comes along. Usually ran about 9 1/2 hrs./day (an Old Fart's shift. Younger guys do longer, up to 13 hrs - legally mandated max). I loved it. Got to get around, see people. Would've loved to have 😮 driven in Mex., Canada & AK. but never did. There are Husband/Wife teams. But teaming is difficult. Sleeping in a vibrating tractor is difficult. Drove for a number of yrs. But age. That too becomes difficult. Staying alert and awake becomes difficult. So, retired again. Now just any jobs which come along. Done mech. & electrical work (BSME) alI my life so there's always something. 76 years now. So there'Il probably be an end to it someday. Any questions pls. Iet me know. Sigh... only thing l missed was RR's. Would like to have done that also. I can't complain. Been a lucky man.

Hi Julia, I am a truck driver my mornings start at 10:30 pm. I am probably one of those trucks you pass on the why to the Philly Airport. Like you, I have time limits and often time out where I have to stop for 10 hours before I can drive again. For the most part I am home everyday, but on occasion I do stay out overnight in my truck. June will be 19 years as a truck driver, the first 2 years were the hardest, little pay and away from 1 month at a time. Anyways, love your videos, been watching since just before the covid shut everything down. Thanks for the entertainment and the fun and beautiful videos.

Hi Julia. I love watching your channel and contribute that to earning a CJO last year. So, thank you so so much! In answer to your question regarding Commercial Drivers. Some of them drive across country and can be away from home three weeks at a time. There are regional drivers that can make a turn and be back at home each night or out for three to five days with a weekend or two days off. It really depends on the Company or account they are on. Sometimes, they have a little flexibility with their schedule and will strategically plan their trips to avoid heavy traffic in larger cities. That might be why you are seeing so many at 4:30 in the morning. Hope that helps. Thank you for all of your great content and positivity.

I am a truck driver. There are several types of drivers, which governs how long drivers are away from home. Local drivers, usually in larger cities are normally home every night. Regional and dedicated drivers are usually home on weekends. Most drivers are OTR (over the road). They haul general, irregular freight and are typically away from home for 4-6 weeks at a time, then home for about a week. That’s what I do. Hope this helps.

    Hi Julia!
Here’s a quick question for you for an upcoming video:
When you get to an airport to work a flight, do you head straight to your gate/aircraft and meet the crew you’ll be working with on the plane? Or do you have to “check in” at a specific airline base / office type thing, and then all go together to the aircraft? Weird question; I know! I was just wondering!
Lots of love from New Zealand! (where you don’t work flights to 🥲)

First off I’d like to say love the channel. I’m actually working through the rest of my ratings I need to become a commercial pilot. Watching your videos gives me a better insight what the flight attendant side of the business is and how everyone works a flight together. I do currently drive a tractor trailer. I mostly run locally so I’m home every night and weekends. But for a lot of the OTR(over the road) people, it depends on the company. Some can be away for days or weeks at a time. Depends on what the company’s needs or loads are. Theres quite a few moving parts to make everything come together.

My dad was a truck driver. He drove regionally which means he typically stayed within 100 air miles of his base. He was home every night. Some drive long haul routes. My understanding is that their hours of driving are dictated by the department of transportation regulations.
