Thx. Simple and not a waste of my time like so many tutorials. I tried the MX Master keyboard from Logitech first - bad advice from a young man at COSTCO. Typical headache trying to make a product built for Windows work seamlessly with my new Powerbook. i'm sure it can be done, but I don't have the time or patience to make it work. This new Apple Magic Keyboard - I purchased the version with the Touch ID, powered-up, sync'd and I clicked on your simple video for the fingerprint option [I already have Touch ID configured on my new Powerbook keyboard] and saw I could just add a 2nd Touch ID for the keyboard and I'm in like flint. This new Powerbook with the X1 processor, hooked-up to a new 27" LG 4K monitor with HDMI - I purchased a 'J5 Create' docking station to get around only having the 2 USB-C ports on the Powerbook, and I am amazed at the performance and display capabilities. This blows away my 3-year old 27' iMac. Thnks for the video.
I run a Macbook pro (with touch ID) Big Sur 11.6.2 I connected the touch ID magic keyboard, but it didn't come to touch ID set up after bluetooth connect, any way to manually trigger this?
@@Silver-nq4pi I'm running an M1 Macbook Pro and I got the same thing, connects only as magic keyboard not Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and i can't initiate the setup for the touch ID on the Keyboard
Thank you So so so so much for your detailed video, this is super useful for older Mac owners and helped clarified a lot of things Apple and other you tubers didn’t explain. I do have a question, does the global key (fn key) works as previous fn key? like double hit fn for dictation? and does the function keys (F1-F19) works like customisable shortcut like hitting F12 to turn on reader mode?
Thanks for this. But I'm looking for a way to force pair my keyboard to a new device if I wasn't able to unpair it with a device that is no longer available. I'm trying to pair it now with a new machine and it doesn't appear on the list of BT devices.
shame the touch id doesnt work on t2 macs. I could see this being really useful on the 2020 27" imac, or the 2019 mac pro or really any desktop mac with a t2 chip
I have 2011 late Macbook Pro and I use Monterey. I just purchased touch id keyboard. I connected kb, but i couldnt see any option for touch id on system preferences.
I connected my new magic keyboard with touch ID to my old (2013) Imac but NEVER saw TOUCH ID SCREEN POP UP. How do I connect the touch id to the new magic keyboard?
After the system update i can no longer find the touch id and passwords in the System settings and tapping the power button twice doesn't do anything. What should i do?
I have a mbpro laptop 2017 that has a touch bar with touch id, which works totally fine.... a coffee spill later, I needed a new "external keyboard" to replace my old BT keyboard so I got a *magic keyboard with touch ID* it works totally fine other than the touch ID. I was looking forward to being able to use the TOUCH id on the more convenient place and can not get it to setup the touch id on the new magic keyboard to even let me set it up, the systems settings only adjust the MBpros keyboard, I have tried everything I can think of... please help. I can't find anything. Can I not have touch ID on the laptop and the magic keyboard? (one additional piece of information, it seems that best buy gave me a rebox'd item because when my laptop connected it showed up as Matthew's Magic Keyboard and... I am not a matthew 🤦 )
Thanks. I just got an M1 Max and apparently the touchID functionality is not supported by that processor. Shouldn't be like that, right? Thanks, Stefano
All great but €185 is too much for a keyboard that I cannot easily connect and switch between other computers. My Logitech MK Keys works so much better. Specially with an MK mouse. Tip: use CTRL+CMD+Q to lock the screen. This works on any keyboard with a Mac.
Hello James first have her hold down the option key. Does she see the drive selection screen with Macintosh HD? If so that is the first step. Then have her try Command R.
Useless device for Intel Mac, no better than Command-Ctrl-Q combination to lock the screen. Just wasted 1 hour of life to go to Apple Store, buy, come back, try to find a way to set up Touch ID just to find out that it's useless. Would be nice of apple to say FOR M CPUs ONLY on the box... Looked all over the box and found a tiiiiiiny text stating that it's only working with Apple silicon.
The new Apple Wireless Magic Keyboard with Touch ID is now available for purchase! Let me know if you have any questions.

Sorry - I guess it's called the M1 chip. Regardless, it's plenty fast!

you can't, only on Macs with M1 and later, even if they support native Touch ID on the keyboard of the MacBook.

Thanks Marlon! The fn key works normally until you are in a text field where it will post the emoji menu.

command+shift+plus eject locks the screen as well

Agreed, since the T2 Macs have Touch ID I figured Apple would figure out a way to make it work. Sadly it was not meant to be.
@@Mr.Macintosh they know how to make it work. The problem is that they want you to buy an M1 mac. They make more money that way.
just on the low end M1s?? that is better be a joke!
no surprise

Turn it on.. gracious! Thank you for the reminder

Great walk-thru for the new keyboard and how the touchID works when wanting to use on a different Mac. Great video again, keep it up!
Thank you @Apple Ninja I'm really glad that Apple has made the new Touch ID keyboard available for purchase!
@@Mr.Macintosh yeah I still need to get one to play with 🤘🏻😁. Cheers bud

Awesome advice. Worked like a charm.
Thanks for this great and helpful setup walkthrough!

Im in the same boat. MBP 2019 w touchbar. Its very annoying. Apple refuse to provide any support and I cant seem to find any way to make it work.

whoa that sounds crazy Stefano! What does the error say ?
@@Mr.Macintosh Actually, it works! I simple reboot fixed everything. As usual!!!
Does it work with an intel macbook pro, that has touch ID?
NO! Just got mine. I have the last Macbook Pro that had an Intel Chip. They keyboard works just not the touch ID

Great Tip on the lock Dennis! You can use just the keyboard on multiple macs but just not the Touch ID part which is a bummer.
I didn't get that screen at all.
Brand new iMac 27
It didn’t work for me it keeps turning off the computer
We have connect aney computer with this keyboard
fyi: make sure to update the software ! big sur 1.11 wont work correctly even on M1.
