After looking at a bunch of low profile mechanical keyboards, I think I’m gonna get the magic keyboard anyway. Yeah, touch ID is super convenient, but all the other keyboards seem to have one major con or another. I don’t mind the lack of backlight because I’ll be using a monitor light or lamp. They probably don’t include it for battery life reasons, though they could at least give the option.
it works fine with a dell laptop but touch id doesn't work on a windows laptop. The Magic Keyboard works with standard keyboard shortcuts like Command+C (copy), Command+V (paste), and Command+Z (undo) on Dell laptops.
The keyboard is the one non-Apple device in my setup. I got a Keychron K5 (full sized keyboard) for around $75, and got white keycaps for it. It's a far superior choice if you want a tactile and customizable feel, and it only lacks the touch ID button and only goes up to F12 (all labeled in Mac fashion as well) but that's pretty much it. I used a Magic keyboard with num pad for a decade before trying something different and have not looked back!
The typing experience and feel from the latest magic keyboard with touch ID and the previous generation stay the same. I thought it was slightly tweaked to be better 😔
If you're thinking of using this with a Trackpad, don't buy it. The keyboard is really long and has a higher keygap than MacBook Pro keyboards, and it's very awkward to use with a trackpad. Your hand moves a lot while switching from the keyboard to the trackpad and back. I'm getting the Magic Keyboard without the Numeric Keypad for use with the trackpad.
it does, I use one at work, but touch ID doesn't work though. And the Clear key on the numeric pad is the equivalent of the NumLock key on Windows keyboards.
Hate that these still use lightning for charging - it feels inevitable that Apple will drop lightning in the future in favour of portless/wireless charging devices and/or usbc I currently don’t have any lightning cables for my desk set up (MagSafe phone charger) As silly as it sounds am leaning towards some of the great usb-c peripherals for my set up to keep lighting out of the picture
First off, wearing that same WATCH combo ;-} Secondly, is it due to the coating on the black keyboard ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Lastly, is that a black Pinhead with a coverall? You got me confused. Oh, great video… I only have MacBooks so I no longer have separate keyboards. (AppleWatchPunk)
If its esential to any mac setup then where is the space black version. You buy a 10k laptop and you have to buy a different color keyboard. This is what it looks like to have an incompetent CEO like Tim Cook at Apple.
why in the actual fuck would the num pad be non-standard. Ive never noticed that or seen it spoken anywhere but the short + key and wrong placement of the * and / keys is insane for someone thats used standard layout for 20 years. Why are the layouts so stupid. The short one putting Fn key down in the corner like the macbooks and long boy having weird ass keys that dont make sense and lack of print screen still?
Thank you for pointing the bad points for the so expensive Apple Magic Keyboard. Think I am going to pass buying it because of the things you mentioned and because there is no backlit.
@@3Toy This magic keyboard with touch ID and numeric keypad only works with iPad mini (5th generation) named "Makenna Kelly" with model number MUU32LL/A.
A goddamn overpriced BS this thing is. I bought the smaller version with TouchID. The numeric keypad, I just use a generic USB one. Makes better sense that way.

Lightning port for charging? That's disappointing, why not just use USB C
The black version is more expensive because it used to be the pro version. The black Magic Mouse is more expensive too if I remember correctly.
Does this work with Dell laptops?
Dumb question but I have Dell laptop and Mac are the keyboard functions the same on a Mac keyboard vs other options?

what about the m2 ipad pro? does the lock/unlock feature for the touch id still not work?
nice review, how is it compatible with Windows when it comes to connecting wireless or with lightning?
No back light! Bummer☹️
Yeah /: sucks a lot especially when dishing out nearly 2 hundred dollars
Would have been good to know how the typing differed to prev version

I tried one but it throws me off going back and forth
Is there an easy one-button way to switch between MACs?
Random question, any idea why battery percentage won’t show up for the Apple keyboard? I can see trackpad info but magic keyboard doesn’t show battery
Bro why you never showed the sound of the keyboard without the music? This is why i searched for this type of video, anyway...
FIRST! Good work, i got the magic keyboard with my imac and i love it

I wish they did same keyboard as in the Macbook Pro. My 16-inch Macbook pro feels perfect. Less clicky less noisy and more satisfying
I like the chalk leather link band you have there, just got one for my AW Series 7 and it’s so nice!
it does not have light? 😕
Thank you for mentioning the M1 chip. I wouldn't have known otherwise. I appreciate your video!

That is a good point!
Thanks I was looking for this comment but what if you put the Magic Trackpad under the keyboard

Very informative thanks for all you do!

fair price is about 50$, maximum

@@3Toy yep I ended up going with a Logitech one from Best Buy and wound up happy. Cheers
