  • The Pinal County Sheriff's Office Reentry Program is always looking for ways to send inmates back into the community better than when they came to us.
We recently joined up with John Volken Academy, along with many other community partners, to give them the best shot at success.
Find our more about our Reentry Program here: www.pinal.gov/1005/Reentry-Pr...

Im an Officer down here in Georgia, and we need more of this in law enforcement. A lot of those convicts aren't bad people at their core, they just need a chance to become something else

We need officers like this all over the world... I once spoke to an officer about when he does and doesn't issue tickets... his reply was. "It depends on the situation, I prefer to go by the spirit of the law. When it allows me to".

You’re absolutely correct back in the day when Prestonsburg a thing or a new thing they learned a skill they worked every day. They got really good at their skill so that when they got out they already had a job with a skill that they could use instead of broke, and Drugs are easy, they don’t have a way for our prison system since it went. Privatize is completely broken.

It's good to see an example of the term "Department of Corrections" applied in such a genuinely meaningful way. Pinal County getting it done! Best of luck to all the participants.

This is not incarceration this is rehabilitation. Corrections is about rehabilitation not just locking away a problem. More departments of justice need to look into implementing programs like this.

Exactly. Americas correction system has had a pattern of following the incapacitation route. More and more rehabilitation based programs have been coming out which are proven to work. Glad they are following this same route.

Outstanding! I wish every single jail/prison had this program. Like some jails/prisons have the dog program; they save dogs from shelters, train them, rehabilitate them and then find them new homes. To be able to work with horses though…that will teach them dramatic empathy and exceptional work ethic! Great work Sheriff Lamb

Such a great experience. I can't help but wonder how many of those men have never been exposed to any farms, animals, or gardening, but thanks to this program, have found something they love doing and have become masters at it???? Heck! I wish I could garden and grow my own food!!! I think the most important thing that I saw was the pride, respect, and peace in everyone of those men's faces. Now that is truly heart warming and gives me so much hope! May God continue to bless and open their eyes to how much they are truly worth!!!!

That's really bad. US prisons should learn from Europe. I live in Norway, known for some of the worlds best prisons, and once on the news, there was a story about prison guards for Norway visiting a California prison. They immediately pointed out several ways to improve inmates day, for example by saying good morning, and acting like humans when interacting with the inmates. Offering programs like in the video is very important, I think that just this makes Mark Lamb qualified to run for president, if I was American, I would easily vote for him.

This is so heartwarming! I know from experience how difficult it is to readjust to normal daily life after only a couple of weeks in the hospital. I can only imagine how hard it would for these guys after years & then trying to find someone willing to hire a person with a criminal record must be almost impossible.
Programs like this where they are interacting with others who have been through some of the same struggles offers support, acceptance & hope as they see what others have overcome. It also helps them adjust to the outside world, gets them accustomed to meetings so that barrier is broken, gives them self confidence, self worth, job skills...
Absolutely amazing, Pinal County. Thank you for all of your efforts! You are a wonderful example to others. Hopefully other institutions will start to pay attention to this & other successful programs & they too will start to implement them.

    Rehabilitation rather than punishment!
I’m Tasmanian, we used to have a minimum security prison farm(prison, and gaol/jail are the same things here) which was a small dairy farm. It has been closed down since then though. Strangely enough, our recidivism and prison population have both increased dramatically. I wonder why… The crims held there could walk out if they chose to when not locked down overnight, but rarely did and WHEN they were caught would go straight to maximum.
I used to go there as a delivery driver driving straight in and rubbing shoulders with the crims wandering around.

This is what prisons/jails need. A re-entry program that helps them work their way back into society, not the current system, which is basically like telling a skydiver their parachute will stop them from falling to their death when they know there is no parachute, just a bag of empty promises.
Work programs need to be a standard across the nation and all inmates need to complete at least a year before release.

No better feeling than being free clean and sober. life is still life. it’s just better to deal with things instead of hiding and trying to cover them up with drugs and alcohol. Unfortunately addicts have to hit rock bottom and make a conscious decision to change before they can be helped. Those that do live on, and those that don’t well…they either die or spend looong lengths of time incarcerated for a moments wrong decision. So make the conscious decision NOW before it’s to late…. Yes I’m talking to YOU you know who you are.

I would think with the skills he has acquired, he would have no trouble getting a job managing a ranch/farm. With all the people wanting to live off grid, there should be plenty of jobs available. I would love to own/live on a ranch but due to disability I could never do the work involved.
