    Yes!!! I've watched this video so many times before deciding to do it myself. And then I tweaked it because the aloe Vera juice was too much for my dry skin (I know, how is that possible).
    My new recipe was:
    30% aloe Vera juice
    30% thayers witch hazel with aloe vera and rose water
    10% rose water
    20% glycerin
    5% organic jojoba oil
    5% organic sweet almond oil
    My skin is in love.

      Turns out it DOES matter what aloe Vera juice you choose to use--and from what brand.
      My first couple times making this mist, I used Lily of the Desert Organic Whole leaf aloe Vera juice and it was more thick and not as watery as George's Always Active aloe Vera juice. Recently, I purchased George's (the aloe Vera juice used in this video) AND MY MIST WAS SO MUCH BETTER. I've changed my concoction to:
      50% George's Always Active aloe Vera juice
      15% thayers witch hazel with aloe Vera juice and rose water
      10% Organic rose water (for scent)
      10% glycerin
      5% organic jojoba oil
      5% organic sweet almond oil
      5% Jason's vitamin e oil

    This face mist is absolutely incredible! I love it on my face but found that it is an amazing moisturizer for my legs post shaving AND works wonders on KP (those annoying bumps all over my arms.) I used about 2/3 aloe juice, glycerin, a small amount of rose hip seed oil, vitamin e, and rose water. The ratios were about the same as given here in the video I just reduced the aloe a little bit to leave room for the rose water.

    i just found your channel and absolutely love it! i have normal to combo skin that is pretty sensitive to products and break outs. i used 75% aloe, 10% glycerin, And based on your oils video I did 5% Sweet almond, grapeseed, and apricot kernel. then added about 10 drops of tea tree oil. for some reason my skin hates salicylic acid but loves tea tree oil. i can put it directly on break outs and the next morning they are next gone. so I really wanted to create a health food ance preventing spray. i just tested it on my arm and I love how fast my skin absorbed it leaving a healthy but not greasy glow! I'm so happy with it! thank you so much for sharing this video!

    I have been playing around with this for the past few days. I have made three different versions of this: one with Tea Tree Oil, one with Jojoba Oil and Sea Berry Oil, and another with Herbivore's Lapis Oil. I also added some of the Ordinary's Hyaluronic Acid to each bottle and it has just done wonders for my skin. I was so happy to see how cheap the ingredients you used were. I go through face mists very quickly so I had to quit buying it (especially at $20 - $30 a bottle)! Thanks for posting this!

    I made my own, following your DIY recipe, substituting 100% pure argan oil for the vitamin E oil and Innisfree oil, and my skin feels so supple after using this spray for two days.
    I love using it over my bare skin as a refresher and as a makeup refresher as well. It gives me a nice, healthy dewy look.
    FINALLY^^

    My version of this mist so far: aloe juice 80%, glycerine 10%, then I add a few drops of Grapeseed oil, a few drops of TeaTree Oil, and top it off with a few (sparing drops) of The Ordinary's R3%F3% antioxidant. I have sensitive, acne-prone skin (hence the use of grapeseed and tea tree oil). I'm experimenting with a smaller travel size spray bottle and mostly use it at night. My acne is under control for the most part, but with the winter weather setting in, even oily/combo skin gets dry and I wanted to try something that would provide a boost of hydration plus a little acne fighting. Fingers crossed this helps.
    Regardless, I love your channel. I've been following it for over a year now ever since I stumbled upon Korean beauty, etc. I appreciate the diy's and the reviews on more affordable beauty products (under $20 & under $10 episodes). Happiest of Holidays!

    I made my own. Ordered everything off of Amazon. Found dark green plastic spray bottles in two ounce size. I use 40cc of pure aloe Vera juice, 10cc of vegetable glycerine, 5cc of thayers witch hazel cucumber, 5cc of vitamin e and 5cc of marula oil. This is a total of 65cc. The bottle allows for overfill. I shake before use. And it's the best stuff ever with a fresh clean scent. My daughter asked me to make her a bottle. She loves it, too! Thanks for giving me the power to improve my skin. I think that I will be making these as Christmas gifts this year for my favorite ladies!

    Hello and happy new year! I wanted to let you know that I tried out your facial mist "recipe". I used aloe vera juice (though the product I purchased has a tan tinge - not sure if that is a bad thing), vegetable glycerin, vitamin E oil, and jojoba oil. I am so pleased with the results! Given the number of times a day I spray my face, my facial mist addiction was getting a little expensive - this is a fantastic and affordable alternative, plus I know exactly what ingredients are included. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

    • @gothamista
      @gothamista  8 років тому +5

      Happy new year to you! Fabulous! So happy you tried it, isn't this mist great? I swear it's better than most of the ones on the market and actually great for the skin as it's waterless so doesn't just evaporate into thin air. I love that you used jojoba!

    • @amyseiter
      @amyseiter 8 років тому +1

      Any suggestions on the best spritz bottle to use? I've found that all the ones available around here either spray too much, too little, in too fine of a squirt, or in too wide of a radius (I'm not too keen on getting it in my hair).

    • @gothamista
      @gothamista  8 років тому +3

      +Amy Seiter Ha, I hear that! I've bought mists purely on the spray container and the way it mists! I actually really like the muji one I have. I also have a mini glass one from a mist I purchased and used up - I've started saving the bottles.

    • @amyseiter
      @amyseiter 8 років тому +1

      Oh yeah! I just recently started saving the bottles - still one of my biggest regrets was throwing away an empty bottle of Omorovicza's Queen of Hungary mist! (bottle's great, product not so much - way overpriced)

    • @Jebidee
      @Jebidee 8 років тому +1

      +Amy Seiter oh i have a travel size of Omorovicza's mist! i was just wondering if that was refillable because the bottom portion actually moves up as the formula disappears. i will try to push the bottom back down or somethign and hopefully that works. :) i agree, the mist is refreshing when you spray, but does not do much for the skin and is overpriced

    Hi Renee, I love your channel, and this face mist recipe got me into making other diy skincare, and I think it's so great. I'm on my third batch and I've made one for my friend. My favorite bottle I've tried is glass and tinted and from the brand Aura Cacia. It's 2 ounces and the mist it sprays is very even. (I find it at Life Thyme on 6th AVE and 8th ST in NYC, sometimes they're sold out) I customized the recipe for acne prone skin like mine. I do 60% Aloe, 20% Organic Bulgarian White Rose Water, 10% Vegetable Glycerine, 5% Vitamin E, and then I use 5% Black Seed Oil. The black seed oil has a really pleasant scent, it's anti-inflammatory, and it's much lighter than other oils I tried in the spray. I think it will be especially good for the spring and summer when it starts to heat up. I'm using it for the first time on an airplane tomorrow. I just wanted to say thank you so much for your videos! I think your channel is so unique!

    Hooray DIY! I hope you make more of these videos. It would be great to have your perspective on DIY skincare products. +Margaret Elizabeth Thank you for your vote of confidence! I would love to do more DIY on products that can be better than skincare one can purchase. This mist definitely is. Personally, I am really surprised with some of the 'popular' ingredients people are putting in their homemade products that are actually really bad for the skin. There is too much misinformation out there!

    After watching this video I immediately went to the store and bought the ingredients. I LOVE IT! I was previously using the Caudalie beauty elixir face mist, but it dried my skin out more than anything (and like you said the first ingredients were water and alcohol! Now I know to look for that)...but THIS keeps things so simple. Thank you!

      +Madalyn Hart I'm so happy you made it! This is the best face mist I use as it's ridiculously difficult to find ones out there that don't have water and alcohol. I already have plenty of spray bottles from other mists around the house so this will be a good use for them!

    Water doesn't make oils evaporate, water bonds to other water molecules, meaning as it evaporates from your skin it's also drawing moisture from the skin if let dry naturally, so pat drying the skin with a cloth will solve the issue

    Just finished trying a version of ur mist: 80% Aloe Vera Juice, 5% Hada Labo HA Lotion, 7% Jojoba Oil, 5% Rose Witch Hazel, & 3% Helichrysum Italicum Oil. I regret putting the Helichrysum oil drops into the mist formula. I thought it was an oil but it was an "essential" oil. My face itches a little when I sprayed it, but will give it another go & if my face still gets irritated by it, I'll just use it as a body mist. Will try this out again without the helichrysum italicum oil soon! Trial n error. Thanks love for sharing.

    The reason that water is often listed in the ingredients list of skin care product is because water is what moisturize your skin. While the oils in skins product helps keep the moisture in your skin.

Expensive or not nothing seams to work permanently even though I drink plenty of water. I'm going to give this mist a try and see. Hopefully it will work. 🙏🏼

    I making my own too but I used 40% pure rose hydrosol , 45% pure alcohol free distilled witch hazel, 10% good quality aloe Vera gel, 2.5% vegetable glycerin and 2.5 vitamin E. I don't like too much glycerin because it feels my face like wet or sticky.

    I made the mist myself using Holland and Barett Aloe Vera Drink (99%) and glycerin, and my face was burning red and irritated. After cleansing it got less red, but it still burns. Maybe it is because put lemon juice on my face earlier today, or because there is citric acid inside the juice, however usually my skin can handle lemon juice very well.

      George’s aloe Vera is actually distilled aloe liquid , it has a longer shelf life than most aloes. However combining it with the oil and stuff I’m not sure. But glycerine & Vit e are considered antioxidants /mild preservatives

    I just found your channel, and I'm hooked! I tried to make this mist, but mine came out WAAAY too goopy, and wouldn't "mist". I couldn't get the particular brand of aloe you suggested, though everything else are the brands you listed. I got Laguna Moon 100% Aloe Vera Gel. I had to put about half of my bottle in a small pot (too precious to put down the sink, and I figured I could use it as a hydrating mask later) and topped up the bottle with water. I hated doing that, because the whole point was to be waterless - but at this moment I didn't have much choice. Going forward though, I'd like to know how to fix my formula? Thanks in advance!

    • @belindacinca7275
      @belindacinca7275 6 років тому +2

      The aloe she uses is a distilled version, which means the liquid is thin like water. Aloe vera gel has ingredients added to thicken it. You need to use a non-gel aloe vera for it to work as a spray with her recipe.

    Hello Renee,
    Thanks for sharing this amazing simple-to-make recipe for sensitive skin. I love that’s it’s all natural ingredients.
    I wanted to ask, when looking for facial mist at stores, we should be looking for waterless/aqualess and no alcohol products. Is that right? It’s just that a few of the face mists you have recommended in your face mist videos, and other popular face mists like the maria badescu rose water one seem to have water as their first ingredient.

    • @marigam
      @marigam 6 років тому

      d3222ee I think the important part is about how it feels. Something could have the first ingredient as water but if the second is strong enough and it doesn’t have that tight feeling on your face then it should be fine. I don’t think she would recommend something that dries her face although I wouldn’t spend a lot of money on something that has water as first ingredient personally..

    • @vanesssavieira
      @vanesssavieira 6 років тому

      Water isn't really the issue. In tons of store bought "toning mists" their main ingredient is water. Water is a place that bacteria loves to grow so most companies will include a preservative to prevent that from happening. Some of these preservatives are alcohols. Not all alcohols will dry everyone out as not all alcohols are the same. But in my experience as an esthetician, many people are less tolerant to certain alcohols and other preservatives than you'd think. As well as emulsifiers. So it's important to get (for example) 100% rose water with no added alcohols or preservatives. And you can always keep it in the fridge to make it last longer, it's even more refreshing too. And always good to use a facial oil or moisturizer on top to occlude the hydration you just gave your skin!
