"There Will Be Flashpoint Incidents" - James Melville REACTS To 'Peckham Punchup'

- A recent incident in Peckham involving a store owner and a customer has taken a divisive turn, with the community divided along racial lines.
The incident began when a woman reportedly asked for a refund at the store, but instead received a voucher for goods of the same value. When she attempted to leave the store with more items than the voucher covered, the store owner is believed to have intervened, leading to a physical altercation.
The incident was caught on camera and shows the store owner with his hands around the woman's neck.
James Melville tells Kevin O'Sullivan that "there will be flashpoints" but people should avoid trying to spread the incident automatically into racism.

@@lillyford84 'them', who is them? I am black and don't condone this woman's behaviour. She acted alone and unfortunately a few 'activists' have decided to racialise this incident for their own political ends.
The woman wanted her money back for goods she bought previously, the shopkeeper said no refunds but offered a credit note to the value of what she wanted to return - effectively an exchange. She decided to take goods with a higher value than the credit note without paying which is theft.
Those of us familiar with south London know exactly what's going on here . She deserved all she got - and more .

Let’s face it, had he let her leave and called the police, they wouldn’t have turned up. He no doubt has a family to support so why should he allow her to steal from him. Kiwi here, now living in the UK. Back in New Zealand, this is an all-too-familiar occurrence. When members of the Asian communities experience thefts at their stores, and the alleged perpetrators are members of non-Asian minority communities, they are often unsure how to proceed. You see, this is a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't situation. Do nothing about it, and the thefts continue. Do something about it, and the alleged perpetrators will play the race card. It doesn't help that the police are impotent to do anything about it either, for fear of being labelled racist themselves (or simply due to a lack of resources). And the police are especially hesitant to intervene when there is a stand-off involving members of Asian and non-Asian minority communities.
The authorities are scared to be called racist more than anything

How do you restrain somebody without using physical force if they have no intention of cooperating or complying? All those in the "community" suggesting he used too much force whilst being hit over the head with a basket are essentially saying just let her take what she wants. And once she has shown she can do that others will know so can they. I say keep away from Peckham, leave them to their own iniquity and squalor. Anyone with sense and decency should move away.

Im with the shop keeper. As a Black man, what i see is the politicalisation of Black Women. It was Black women that were mainly protesting. The shopkeeper did what any proud business owner or human being would do. The problem is with the black woman stealing and being aggressive, hitting the owner, that is trying to control her shoplifting & misbehaviour. This story shows no-one, not even black men have the ability to check misbehaving black women. It's the government's fault for funding and supporting single mother hood. We are amidst the breakdown of the family and ultimately society. This would never happen in Africa or in Asia, only in the West.

I live in Thailand shoplifting here carries a 3-year mandatory prison sentence so happens rarely never forget everyone is equal under the law in the UK,if you watch the full video the shopkeeper gives her a refund voucher then she starts to help herself he attempts to restrain her till the police arrive then she gets extremely physical no worries if the case goes to court the complete video footage will be shown and I'm confident She will be convicted.
All businesses should just leave these areas and do a boycott basically of clowns who feel entitled and leave then with nothing in they areas

the woman was arrested with assault for slapping the manager not caught on video. This is a pointless debate. She was a low life thief who he was trying to stop from thievery.

For me as a black man I see the hypocrisy within my community. Ask yourself had this been the exact same incident with a black shop keeper would there have been an uproar. I bet the Asian shop keeper has a lot of black customers that he gets along with. Now he is branded as a racist Asian shop keeper simply for protecting his livelihood. These are the kind of incidents that will cause people to dislike us as black people. Why? I was informed by a colleague about this incident yesterday.What was interesting to me is that he had only just heard about it without any facts.He then said, "it's good that Peckham stood up to do something about it. Argos tried to give me vouchers instead of a refund. I had paid extra insurance cover for the item, i took item back just stopped working. I did not accept vouchers and they did not inform me the product was discontinued. I said cash or police your choice.
