Mafia III made the mistake of being an easily digestible free roam game in a game series that was not an easily digestible free roam game series. It’s mediocre on its own, and horrible compared to Mafia 1 and Mafia 2
Too bad their are no shops. I think there should’ve been a features like us being able to eat at certain restaurants to regain health or buy clothes like you mentioned. This makes it a bigger deal when you cannot eat (or shop in this case) at certain places due to your race.
I actually love all mafia games and the only reason why 3 was so "mediocre" it's because there too much grind when getting 💵 damage. I installed a mod called "stop the f grind" and some other qof mods. Those mods alone fixed the game for me and made it one of my fav.
Mafia 3 reminds me of some weird spin-off of watch dogs the way it plays. The re did mafia 1 great, idk what they were thinking writing this script for Lincoln clay.
what’s interesting is that this game has one of the coolest scenes in gaming history. the scene where lincoln gets shot, and he blurrily watches all of his loved ones die while paint it black plays in the back was a masterpiece. it’s incredibly unexpected, and it’s executed perfectly. that scene is so saddening considering the rest of the game is a quick downturn.
The Glitches even in 2024 make this game unplayable. Yes, LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE. I encountered a glitch where I was upgrading Sammy's Bar and the game cut to black. (supposedly because it was trying to start a mission but failed) I was stuck in an infinite black loading screen and so I quit the game and it spawned me back in, but every time it spawned me in I would fall under the map and would be unable to move. It practically broke the game where I lost all my progress permanently. Also, every so often the game would freeze for a few seconds and then resume.
I thought the game freezing for a few seconds was a fault of my console, or perhaps the disc was scrached (I bought the game used), interesting to see others bump into this same issue...
playing it again in 2024, and there’s this one bug after i assign a racket where it shows the people who assigned it to flooding in, but then doesn’t re-centre to lincoln. but i can move around, glitch doesn’t fix unless i exit to main menu and re enter the game edit: i put this comment before i seen the part where he brings it up

Donovan isn't a psychopath, he is just used to dehumanizing and killing people as a war veteran, much like Lincoln. And they were both killing criminals and mercenaries, not civilians. As mentioned, he is carefree, derisive, and cynical. What was he supposed to do in the bar, for instance? Some guy was killed, no need to cry about it, or avoid taking his cigar. Overall, I don't think he was doing awful things and laughing it off (that would imply he was coping with unpleasant experiences through laughter). What made him dislikeable is the final scene in the church, where he was immature and extremely rude to father James, and desecrated the temple.

Everything about this video is fantastic, I haven't laughed like that in a long time! And it's all true too. Like the melee combat, it's a huge letdown from Mafia ll. You can no longer duck or slip punches, what kind of a fight is that? And the radio stations, there isn't a one bita difference between them like in Mafia ll, expect for the name. What's the point of having 3 stations if they all play exactly the same set of songs? A few times they played say Fortunate Son on all 3 stations concurrently. I hear the familiar guitar intro (after hearing it about half a million times in other games I can stand it no more 😖I switch but there's no escape so I'm forced to turn the radio completely off. And no garage, seriously? After 15 year old GTA lll, Vice City and San Andreas, a major open world driving AAA game doesn't have at least ONE garage? Unbelievable

The personality thing with Lincoln is debatable because there is a section where you see his journal entries throughout the story and he comments on everything but I can see where your coming from
That's kind of lazy, though. Instead of him expressing himself like a human, just read his diary. The entries don't say much anyway, it's essentially him recounting the events or sentiments we were already aware of "Burke is a drunk lunatic", "Dixie pimps are mfs who deserve to die", etc.
Kinda, it's a bit sparser than the RDR2 journal but he comments on everything like even health upgrades he mentions Vito sending him to a named mob doc that checks him up but doesn't really describe what the doc does to increase his health.
28:00 OK, I agree with you on the whole "lincoln being too much of a badass" thing, badass characters don't really work in games like mafia. HOWEVER, a badass main character in a game CAN work, It IS possible for a main character in a game to BE a badass, just not in EVERY game, cause that would get boring afterwards.
Lincoln made this game seem like Assassin's Creed, among many other things. Meanwhile, the previous ones were about soldiers trying to achieve something in life.
Dude I just finished watching all of your videos and I'm only just now noticing how many views and subscribers you have. Your level of quality is truly great, your jokes and references are hilarious and I got every single one. You really have a talent for making videos and I hope to see more from you at some point.
Thanks so much! It’s been 3 years but it looks like I’m gonna have some extra time starting around February and I’m planning on making some new content then
The first go around when it first came out I beat it for the story because there were too many bugs to stick around and do other stuff. I bought the definitive edition later on to play the full experience with everything, and alot about it was still broken. I WAS enjoying myself until I ran into a really bad bug in the middle of the game where everything you do from that point on doesn't save. I couldn't finish Sign of the Times DLC either. Was a fun game though.
And as far as score, "Help Me Faith" and "We Will Rise Again" are genuinely incredible. If they ever came on when taking down an outpost I would just sit and listen lol.
The drop in quality compared to the first 2 games was jarring to say the least. My initial thought was that they must have had a much lower budget for this game but I couldn’t find source on this. The studio shift must have played a huge factor though. Compared to the first two this game was clearly not crafted with love and care. Shame this franchise had such a strong identity and it complements GTA and Red Dead really well in the crime sim genre. I hope Hangar 13 gets the resources to make Mafia 4 with production value on par with 2.
Saying mafia 3 is good for tackling racism and then says all the Italians in Mafia 2 are Hard to tell apart. only similarities is most of the characters have black hair you can easily tell them apart
I disagree. It is way too repetitive. That is for sure and ruins most of the game IMO. The story though is really really good and very satisfying to see through to the end. The characters are also awesome (especially Donovan). The gameplay isn't perfect but frankly I think the basic shooting combat is better than the rest of the series (including Mafia 1 remake). Maybe that's down to the guns being more modern but it also just feels more responsive to me than the rest. What does not get enough credit though is the driving. As a fan of simulation racing games, this has the best driving I have experienced outside of actual racing games. Especially when you get the faster cars in the game, IT IS SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!! The cars actually behave relatively realistically compared to most open world games like this. Hell, I've played many actual racing games that didn't have driving nearly as good as Mafia 3's
Technically no one ever said Joe was dead , we all assumed. Leo said “(he) wasn’t part of the deal “. Seems like almost every job they did together turned out bad or got heat. So they needed separated. 2 and 3 are both great games and good stories
8:36 I had this bug, Im pretty sure I deleted the game data or game itself and it fixed it. That or I had an older save in the cloud and I restarted from that point. Its hard to tell, but whenever you have these issues, trying to delete the game profile or game data (NOT save data) or the entire downloaded game on system can help. It can set you back hours, but way better than having to do a replay which most end up doing not knowing how to deal with a corrupted game
The Mafia games never lived up to their potential. Mafia 1 was by a studio just figuring themselves out. Mafia 2 was just a tonne of cut content. You could almost hear the blades as you explored a wonderfully realised city with nothing to do in it. Mafia 3? Hangar 13 made a completely different beast that just lacked... everything. The DLC should have been the game.
i disagree with the farcry 5 radio comment, farcry 5 had dan romer and hammock make whole ass real choir cult songs and country themed cult music, it was cool as fuck
Mafia 3 definitive edition is the most confusing game I have ever played while the story is good its not a mafia game. But when it comes to the gameplay its so confusing. I just did one of the optional side missions like the weed one and Im so confused if it even ended. The gameplay also borders on tedious luckily the combat is fun same with the music
The first 2 games were master piece, and this game made me almost say "goodbye" to the franchise, repetetive shit game, bugs, and bad gameplay, there were similliar games like rdr 2,who made it "not" repetetive and good, dissapointment

@@ihavenothoughts Mafia 3 though has the same problem. My biggest gripe is that they mention Chicago and New York which kinda sucks, I liked that Lost Heaven and Empire Bay were stand ins for those cities.
@a.j.9359 I noticed that too, my assumption, at least when they mention Chicago, is that they’re talking about a real life incident and wanted to give it the appropriate weight, but still an odd choice. The GTA games have done this a handful of times too, weird

@rosenovcharov5940Mafia 3 had a well-packaged boring ass “story” if you can even call it that. Guy gets revenge is not much of a story. At least GTA5 had stakes, plots, characters and humor. This game had nothing going.
The writing is great ngl it's very comedic, ruthless, and perfect for the time period had me entertained while watching the cutscenes, and I felt like a movie fr, especially the personalities of each character being prominent to lincolns character build, especially father ballad and donavan being the angel and demon on lincolns shoulders. The gameplay ofc is where the game suffers badly, although there are fun missions like the assassinations and drive bys where you go in gun toting like the punisher/red hood, gunplay is fun, driving is fun, the setting and music is great, but if only they took another year of polishing before release.
Mafia 2 just might be my most favorite game of all time. The pain I felt lying to myself that Mafia 3 was good was unreal at Mafia 3s release. Its a game I'd prefer be forgotten, it kinda ruins the franchise in my opinion
They squandered the era and the classic sound track that went along with it on a mediocre game. Thats how i felt in the first 30 minutes and thats how i felt when id finished the story.
You finally summarized it all up. You didn’t mention tho that the clothes don’t show up in cutscenes In the video I was confused because some of the cutscenes have the unique outfits. But this must be a feature of the definitive edition. Because that wasn’t happening on my playthrough of ps4
I always felt like in this game you play the parts where in Mafia II you would had loved playing most , i mean: Remember when in mafia II we saw that cutscene with that music "let the good times role" showing how vito and joe made it up to the hill? thats exactly the cut content we wanted to experience and they just pass it in a cutscene Meanwhile in Mafia III you get to do all that stuff but without the same feel, i dunno if u know what i mean.
A game tackling racism is the stupidest thing ever. If I needed a game to tell me whats good and bad I've failed at life. So the idea of this game just hammering it on is just cringe.
The game is set up in New Orleans in the 60s during Vietnam war and Martin L King. Do you really think that they will skip those themes? I don't like woke stuff but in mafia 3 it feels authentic.
My biggest thing is with trophies, I’m trying to 100% the game and all I got left is the flambé trophy but for some reason it never says I get it even tho I’m doing exactly what it asks
I've played many story games and mafia 3 is definitely one of the worst, it's one of the most boring games I've ever played and a huge part of that is it tries to be a open world game when it should've been linear like the other 2, or if they wanted to make it open world so bad then they should've added stuff to the open world instead of u going point a to point b to do the same objective for 15-20 and call it a game
Really??? I found the music to be heavily repetitive. The amount of times I heard "Palisades Park" made me vomit. Whomever programmed the music either mis-heard what YEAR they were programming for or they had NO CLUE what radio sounded like in 1968. First and foremost - they are all AM Stations and should be in MONO ONLY. Secondly, I don't believe they actually programmed the individual stations. You'll hear "King of the Road" or "Palisades Park"; two very Caucasian songs on the WBYU more Black oriented station. I believe there is only one music file and changing stations just jumps to a different point in time. Thirdly, they left out a LOT of musical acts of the time period that are very important. No Sly & The Family Stone, No Fifth Dimension, No Ray Charles, No Marvin Gaye, No Jackie Wilson, No Jimi Hendrix (only song used during title screen), No Wilson Pickett, No Stevie Wonder.... I mean, they had an opportunity to introduce a whole generation to Soul Music, to R&B and they blew it. Like you pointed out No Beatles, No Youngbloods, No Archies, No Monkees.... and when we'd established that there was No Elvis in Mafia 2, they go and retcon that by adding ONE Elvis song to Mafia 3, and they use a remix version that came out in the 90's. There's also another song they use from 1971 which title escapes me. Granted, they have a budget.... I understand that but the did an amazing job in Mafia 2 and the radio was nowhere as repetitive in Mafia 2. They also missed a HUGE opportunity for the "white" stations where they could have licensed some old Wolfman Jack shows and introduced kids to the Wolfman. His comedy and his style would've TOTALLY fit in with the Mafia 3 vibe in the bayou. Heck, even L.A. Noire licensed some old recordings of the Jack Benny program!! I'd just park the car and listen to Jack Benny. Who cared if someone was jumping off a building?? I hope Mafia 4 is successful. There probably won't be much need for licensed music. But if there is a Mafia 5 set in Las Vegas in the 1970's.... they'd better hire *ME* as Musical Director.
Dude you’re clearly an expert and you know way, way more than me, media like this generally never care about that level of accuracy but it would’ve been really cool if they had. I actually love all mafia games and the only reason why 3 was so "mediocre" it's because there too much grind when getting 💵 damage. I installed a mod called "stop the f grind" and some other qof mods. Those mods alone fixed the game for me and made it one of my fav.
I actually thought Mafia 3 was a Ubisoft game when i first played it lol.
Definitive edition 1 still gives me hope they will return to the more linear format for 4. Hoping 2K shows something since the event is coming soon
Oh we are getting a new game in 2025
The Glitches even in 2024 make this game unplayable.
I’m on my 4th play through
Ive played this game so many times and have rarely ever actually encountered game breaking issues
I thought the game freezing for a few seconds was a fault of my console, or perhaps the disc was scrached (I bought the game used), interesting to see others bump into this same issue...
playing it again in 2024, and there’s this one bug after i assign a racket where it shows the people who assigned it to flooding in, but then doesn’t re-centre to lincoln. but i can move around, glitch doesn’t fix unless i exit to main menu and re enter the game
edit: i put this comment before i seen the part where he brings it up
@@balintdaku3038yeah crashes quite often after an hour or so after playing I have a nearly brand near xbox and bought digital version of it so ik it's not my console just bad craftsmanship I'd trade it for mafia 1 or 2 anyday of the week
I mean yeah fair enough
He did respect Father James enough to shut up and let him talk to Lincoln, so not that bad...
Who is Donovan? I only know Jack Donaughy.
@@ihavenothoughtsjudging by this video alone regarding the comments...
i already know this video is going to be a superficial mess, especially this original post about utilising contrived, prescriptive abstractions such as 'Psychopath' & any personality disorder, that's made to informally label & categorise regarding the indoctrinated polarization, that's based from a higher set of perceived standards, that gets determined in its absolute form of truth to what it should & shouldn't be as; such as what a 'Human' in essence should & shouldn't be as, thus you get allegorical & paradoxical terms such as 'Dehumanise, Humanise, subhuman, inhuman' that's a subset of equating 'Humanity' or a 'Human' to an indoctrinated polarization of what a 'Human' in essence should & shouldn't be as, despite the fact that it's superficial by nature to informally label of what a 'Human' should be.

Hey thanks man, I’m trying to find time to make another video soon
@@ihavenothoughts Hope you have time!
Dude there can’t be underrated or overrated things.
This game is my guilty pleasure tbh

NPC opinion
The personality thing with Lincoln is debatable because there is a section where you see his journal entries throughout the story and he comments on everything but I can see where your coming from
Never knew that, is it anything like the RDR2 journal?
Yeah, most of my favorite games have a mega badass lead character, but I prefer something different for the mafia series
Lincoln made this game seem like Assassin's Creed, among many other things. Meanwhile, the previous ones were about soldiers trying to achieve something in life.
33:11 thats the rolling stones logo. He knows that, right?

Thanks so much! It’s been 3 years but it looks like I’m gonna have some extra time starting around February and I’m planning on making some new content then
The first go around when it first came out I beat it for the story because there were too many bugs to stick around and do other stuff. I bought the definitive edition later on to play the full experience with everything, and alot about it was still broken. I WAS enjoying myself until I ran into a really bad bug in the middle of the game where everything you do from that point on doesn't save. I couldn't finish Sign of the Times DLC either. Was a fun game though.
Mafia 2: race war boogaloo
32:48 Far Cry 5 had a decent radio soundtrack.
One of the best ever. I laughed when this tool said it was bad.
I’m still waiting for a mafia game set around the Russian mob set in the 80s in the Soviet Union
welp you got 1900s Sicily instead lol
I definitely DO NOT want to get into an argument with Hugo Stiglitz.

The problem with the game was the repetitive gameplay, Mafia 2 while short is extremely memorable.

Remember when in mafia II we saw that cutscene with that music "let the good times role" showing how vito and joe made it up to the hill?

I've played many story games and mafia 3 is definitely one of the worst, it's one of the most boring games I've ever played and a huge part of that is it tries to be a open world game when it should've been linear like the other 2, or if they wanted to make it open world so bad then they should've added stuff to the open world instead of u going point a to point b to do the same objective for 15-20 and call it a game
nah it’s the worst out of the three
@@Daniel-fi9nbIn terms of game play yes. But story, I put Mafia 2, Mafia 3, and Mafia 1 in that order.
Question: Would Mafia 3's premise have gone down better as a spin-off title in the Mafia universe?
Yes, but also, I think the premise was fine, execution was a total fumble.
@ihavenothoughts1000 Yeah, that's fair.
And yeah, sounds like they should hire you as musical director, I wish these games would hold themselves to a higher standard of authenticity
It really shows how much I detest this game. I finished both Mafia and Mafia 2’s story and never finished Mafia 3’s
That hypothetical old country mission was fucking great and i 1000 percent would play that mission call it somthing like "Old Counrty for Mob Men" perfect
