I personally enjoyed the game, I found the achievements extremely grindy and annoying though. But I also think that 1 of the major things that went wrong with Mafia 3 was that it felt like it was trying to compete with GTA instead of being a Mafia game. It's been a long ass time since I played Mafia 1 and 2, but if my memory serves me correctly, then I remember playing the first 2 games and not once feeling like it was GTA. Mafia was it's own IP and it did good seperating itself. Mafia 3 however left what we loved about Mafia behind for a revenge storyline with gameplay that tried to rival GTA.
I disagree Sure you could compare both games, but Mafia 3 was way darker than the GTA series and had way more details about racism and the things that happened during that time period in the game it was really good and Lincoln took everyone’s life because of what he was taught during the Vietnam War, the game was way better than GTA the story was perfect and he got revenge for Sammy
@@DyslexifyHonestly this is why I feel like this game got more of its hate and ended up with plenty of criticism. I loved it. My only hang up was the glitch that happened with the DLC
@@quann06 All games run similar to GTA, Sleeping Dogs, Saints row 2, saints row 1, I could go on and on but why does it matter anyway most games that are similar to the GTA series are still some of the best games today and does way better than Cockstar games, so what’s your point, we could argue that Mafia 3 had a way better gameplay than GTA 5
The biggest issue with Mafia 3, is that it isn’t about The Mafia. It’s a by the numbers, rise to the top, takeover game. Mafia 1 & 2 has the main character actually joining the mob and acting on behalf of them. Mafia 3 is just us acting like the Punisher.
Well Lincoln was part of the mob as an associate but he is betrayed. And I think him going after the mob (specifically this one mob family) actually fits well narrative of Lincoln Clay’s story.
I finished it not too long ago, doing some backlogging on older games. Alot of the technical in this game is borderline horrendous. But the voice acting in this game, some of the characters, the brutal tone of the setting. And Donophan as a side character, that man was gold
Yea its a shame because the cinematics were great. Story was good. It was just that nothing changed about your character (or the gameplay) for like 25 hours
Yeah the gameplay loop was a very big missed opportunity for more variation. If this game didnt had more satisfying cut pieces with the killings of the marcano members, i wouldn't have finished it..i'll never forget that LSD part tho, that was fun writing
Yeah the game still has a decent amount of technical issues, like missions not starting when you talk to the contact, crashes occasionally, sometimes the lighting and environment look kinda bad I’ve even seen on occasion the overpass near the distillery a car glitch through the overpass and fall through it and crash into the road. I actually clipped it and posted it on my channel 😂
Btw the only backstabbing I noticed you could do so far is not give any extra districts to your racket bosses. SPOILER: Burke got mad at me and started sending irish mob guys after me. Had to kill him, was a sad scene.
Burke was also racist and disrespectful too eventally you had to backdoor dude and you find out he was gonna die anyways he kept on drinking I felt like his son was the only glue that was holding the ties to his organation
I wish in all these gta, mafia, Saint row type games the devs would spend a little time creating a territory war in large scale. Like not even part of the campaign. A “territory mode”. Each one has a small taste of it, but then moves on or away from it as the game goes on.
@@andypantsgaming idk… maybe I only have the offline games. I remember it was my favorite part of the old gta SA and part of mafia 3 , and gta 5 only kind of hinted at it for a second when we meet a few gangs. Older saint row did a good job on one for a while. Idk which it was but an older one. I haven’t seen the new saints row.
I remember when it released, it had tons of bugs. What didn't help were the comparisons to mafia 2, which showed how it lacked a lot of tiny details which mafia 2 had.
Mafia 1 and 2 were flanderizations of the mob, mafia activities aren't all shoot outs and making quick one-time scores. Mobsters have consistent income like extortion rackets not heists. 3 was heading in the right direction but fell a little flat, but can be excused with the shootouts becahse you're taking over the rackets
@@elmizzoxmafia 1 and only shows episodes where stuff happens. In the cutscenes Tommy says nothing has happened in 6 months so the missions are centered around when stuff happens they dont show every day to day mafia activities but they show them. The booz pick up mission in trip to the country or the mission where you college protection money
@@elmizzox I just replayed mafia 1 and they go years being on the bottom rung against the bigger mafia boss. Running booze, extortion are all playable missions.
As a black Texan the most annoying thing about that game to me was the black people's accents lol black people from Louisiana do not talk like that at all, it grated on my ears every time I had to hear a black Mississippi/Alabama accent on a person who was supposed to be a black person from New Orleans. I had to keep saying to myself "well it's not New Orleans, it's a fictional city, so the accents are fine." But beyond that it was a cool game, it was just insanely repetitive. But it was nice to see something kinda resembling my culture represented in a video game. The setting was enjoyable to me.
I’m not a black Southerner, but I did notice a strange difference between how the black characters spoke and how the white characters spoke as the white characters definitely sounded more Louisianan in their accent then the black characters. I’ll give the Haitians a past as they seemed to be first generation to second generation Americans who still have their Haitian accents, but the black American characters, yeah it did seem off.
Well, as a white Appalachian, why not do like me and assume they don't want to sound like everyone else from where you're from, so change their accent? I don't sound as hillbilly as the people in the hollers I grew up in.
my main gripe with mafia 3 was reducing vito to a underling to some guy we barely know knowing his backstory it felt out of place He did prison time went to war etc Also, another problem I had was Lincoln Clay, taking over the rackets instead of just outright destroying them he’s profiting off of the same evil he’s against makes his mission seem disingenuous
I mean he wasn't a boy scout he was a criminal he was only going after them ppl because they betrayed him killed his family and tried to take him out too
Not sure what you expected out of a guy who came from up North to the South. As an outsider he wasn't going to get high up. As far as Lincoln's story goes, THATS THE POINT! He was so hell bent on destroying the man that he became the very same thing he hated (although with slightly better morality).
I liked the soundtrack for sure and the story was pretty interesting but felt not like a mafia game. If they took out the idea of taking over the city it would honestly feel like a punisher style game with an OP solider facing off against gangsters. It would’ve honestly been better if they went the route of a gangster story in the shape of Nicky Barnes or Frank Lucas taking over the city, least that way it feels more grounded since they wouldn’t be skilled in every weapon, explosive and so on so you’d need the help of the people under you. There was so many times I’d just mow down people with ease and not even think about calling one of my underbosses except the arms dealer
@@DJ-iu5bb yeah exactly like a black mob story could’ve been cool and taken the franchise somewhere else for sure, but tbh it didn’t even feel like you were a mob boss. The people that were your underbosses basically ran their own mobs, their cuts to you were small as hell lol, and you were basically the punisher running around destroying the city and so on. Like a black mob story designed like the godfather 1-2 game could’ve been awesome
From what i heard the game was supposed to have so much more to. And that Hanger 13 wanted it to come out in 2018 but 2K pushed for 2016. I personally love the game i just wish there were more to do after the story is over. I think if the game would’ve came out in 2018 it would have beat red dead redemption 2 in game of the year.
Story was great, cutscenes done well. The main missions were fun but the in between was repetitive to get to those main missions. Going open world was its biggest flaw.
Me as a Czech i was kinda hoping that u will explain the audience the makings of Mafia 1 and 2, since it was the Czech studio led by Daniel Vávra (ringin a bell with this name?) who made these games until mr. Vávra was forced out at the end of the development of the Mafia 2 due to a creative differences. U got a very succesful franchise, Mafia 1 is even regarded by many as a one of those great OG games and suddenly pple who made the first two games are no longer working on the 3rd title. And the rest u already explained....
I played through Mafia 3 last month for the first time too, I honestly loved it, I don't get why it gets such a bad rap I give it a lot of credit for such a great use of music of the time, I'm a sucker for great use of music in games and movies
I just finished the game. I read and watched some reviews as I played. Up until the last district I took over, the repetitiveness didn't bother me that much, but in the end, I couldn't wait for it to be over. I did all the DLC's as soon as they became available, mainly to unlock the vehicles and weapons they award you with, but I should have done them between districts to break the wash-rinse-repeat cycle of taking over rackets and districts. Still, it was an awesome game. Loved the combat mechanics, driving, setting, cars, characters, and, of course, the awesome music.
My biggest problem with mafia 3 is the combat. It felt so off I went back to mafia 2 to see if my nostalgia had blindsided me. Aiming your gun just feels odd and unpleasant in 3.
Mafia 3 isn't a mafia game for obvious reasons My opinion hanger 13 should have written Lincoln story should have been a spin off to mafia that takes place from the perspective of their rivals weather it be gangs other crime syndicate factions independent contractors victims and so on Instead of calling it mafia 3 call it factions or name it after the theme of the story i.e Lincoln story is a revenge story and he's a military man so they could of called it vengeance of valor But this is just my opinion feel free to agree or disagree
I don't see the problem. "Mafia" is applied in everyday language to all manner of organized crime and there are only so many different ways you can tell the story of an Italian-American man getting involved in the Mafia.
@@willpoundstone71 Does the term biker mafia sound right? Or Colombian cartel mafia? Triads mafia? Bloods n crips mafia ? Yes they are all criminal organizations that commit crimes but they are all different and have different rules objectives goals etc this is like saying all criminals and crimes are the same even tho everyone who's on the bad side of the law of and have committed a crime is technically a criminal it's what type of criminal or nature of the crime A money launder isn't the same as a sicario or a drug smuggler car jacker armed robber a serial killer ped__o__phile. Yes they are all criminals but there are things that set them apart.
@@willpoundstone71 Mafia", as an informal or general term, is often used to describe criminal organizations that bear a strong similarity to the (original )Mafia in Sicily, to the Italian-American Mafia. Yes any ethnicity could have a mafia but again this is what the series established it's self as in regards to which group is the main focus If we were to get a game trailer you see motorcycles leather chaps vest meth bitches with star and tassel nipple coverings what would you think the name of the game is ? You'd think it would be named after the biker gang or they'd be a prefix like GTA tlad You wont expect to see biker mafia as the name or mafia bikers or the hell's angels mafia or better you see thugs wearing red and blue bandanas sneakers gold chains bad bitches named blood or Crip mafia Do these organizations do nearly if not all the same thing as the o.g mafia's?. But there are things that set them apart Do African American street gangs or white redneck bikers pay tribute's to an underboss or a capo consigliere ? No bikers got president vice president secretary treasure sgt at arms road captain and enforcers It's safe to say that other groups like the triads Yakuza Colombian cartel and African street gangs don't have or follow the same command structure they don't even have don's.
I never played GTA V, I don't think they're bad games they're just not my cup of tea. So I obviously couldn't compare Mafia 3 to it. I actually loved Mafia 3, it's not a perfect game but I found it so different to every other open world game I'd ever played so was willing to overlook its shortcomings. One of the reasons I enjoyed it so much was I got to inhabit one character for the duration. One of the things I knew I wouldn't engage with about GTA V was the switching between characters thing. It breaks the immersion for me personally. Anyway just wanted to offer a different perspective. Good video, I'm always supportive of content creators who offer balanced critique and don't just dump on games they didn't personally like. Liked and shared, good luck with your channel.
i feel mafia 3 brought back a lot of nostalgia for me cause it was setup a lot like one of those open world games on ps2 that went under the map like scarface
I just developed a theory that perhaps doing the missions for Vito and the 2 others, whose names I forgot are meant to be that middle that’s missing but most people probably didn’t do them or waited until the end, like me. If they had a better way of presenting missions for you it would be some what okay but in reality there is not much variation even with those adjustments. The DLC does add a bit more to it as well.
He’s an associate of the Mafia as the Mafia in real life who had many associates who worked with them and were not of Italian descent. For example the mobster that Jimmy Conway played by Robert De Niro in Goodfellas is based off of is a man named James Burke who worked alongside closely with the Mob and he wasn’t Italian at all. He was Irish. And there are many real life examples of this including African American mob associates. So Lincoln being a black main protagonist in a Mafia game doesn’t make it not a Mafia game as Lincoln’s role as an associate with the Mob makes perfect sense.
Repetitive was the first word that comes to mind when thinking of this game. Didn't hate it but as a trophy hunter...i was in no rush to do 2 playthroughs of this back to back, considering how 1 of the main trophies didnt unlock.
I find the critiques very valid, but my question is: why does it have to be GTA V? Why can’t a game be a good game in its own right if it isn’t better than GTA V? Idk, I feel like all the positives and negatives apply without it being compared to GTA V constantly. If anything, I feel like constantly putting it against GTA really diminishes the critiques, because it feels more like “bahhh it’s not GTA -_-“ instead of genuine criticism, even though these gripes are very valid. I wish more devs were allowed to make games of this type without it needing to be better than GTA V or considered a failure.
Mafia 2 was sooo good . One of my favorites. I was so excited for mafia 3 . I played it for 15 minutes and almost cried I was so let down . I almost wrote a letter to the developer
"Mafia 3" was an outstanding masterpiece that gave us "Jim Crow" South style deeping into the "Black Mafia Of New Orleans"....I loved how good the story was written, the rock n roll, doo wop, & soul music soundtrack I find myself singing to it as I drive to the next mission activities.....I dig meeting returning characters such as "Vito Scaletta", "Joe Barbero", " Luca" & "Henry". As well introduced us to new ones.....the only I felt came short was the open world....outside of stealing haul trucks for "Maria", "Heisting firearms" for "Cassandra", jacking "Weed Shipments" for the Haitians, stealing exotic cars for "Burke" & taking out "Hitmen & Mobb Guys" for "Vito"....the world was empty.....Just like the original "Mafia" I wished the game would of given "Lincoln" more character development with buying new clothing skins, ride the street car trolley in the downtown & French Quarter areas, unlock music songs by purchasing music from a music stores, developed more a relationship with the girl he liked "Jackson's Daughter Regina"", & more ways to make money....But that's here not there....the game isn't for everybody....there will be critique. But if you play with a clear mind ...you will find yourself having fun with this sequel...... 🕹️🤔🕹️🤔🕹️🤔🕹️🤔🕹️
I tried playing it and: 1. It didn't feel like Mafia. This may be just personal preference, but for me, Mafia is that 30s-40s aesthetic. 2. Its side activities were tedious and just felt like a chore.
@@Highonlife24 It just doesn't make sense in the mafia series. The upcoming one 'the old country' seems like a true mafia game again though. Hopefully they don't mess it up with diversity woke BS.
@@weirjwerijrweurhuewhr588 How doesn’t it make sense when it is realistic and terms of actual real life Mafia dynamics?Lincoln was a Mafia associate to the Italian Mafia and the Mafia in real life had more associates do their dirty work for them than actual fully made members and many of whom were not of Italian descent and were of many different ethnicities including African American. So you saying that it doesn’t make sense for the Mafia series just shows how ignorant you are to the actual history of the Mob. Not to mention some of the biggest well known mob movies and films follow the stories of non Italian mob associates, most Notably Goodfellas that follows the real life story of Henry Hill, who was only half Italian and could not be a fully made member of the Mob due to him being Half Irish but served the Mafia as an associate as well as the main antagonist of the film Jimmy Conway (real life name James Burke) who was fully Irish and yet a major hitman for the Mob and the mastermind of the real life Lufthansa heist as well as the murders of all the people who were part of that heist to cover his tracks and keep the money. And that movie is considered one of the greatest Mafia movies of all time next to the Godfather. Or other real life gangsters like Bumpy Johnson, Frank Lucas, and Nicky Barnes all black gangsters who were major associates of the Italian Mafia as they controlled territory in Harlem and worked to protect Mob rackets and pay them cuts and help grow their criminal empire as well as their own. So again, you don’t actually know what you are talking about and I suggest you actually research real Mafia history. And you clearly don’t know what Woke means because it has nothing to do with diversity or politics you don’t like being “forced” into video games. So while researching Mafia history also read a dictionary to learn the meaning of woke.
To be honest, i truly hate that game. So I'm a bit biased ...😅 I think the biggest Problem of the game is the name "Mafia", beside the repetitive gameplay. In something called after the most famous italian organised crime organisation I want to play as an character who fits in. And that means i want to play a story of an italian(-american) guy, like Tommy or Vito. Everyone else could work, if the game is not called Mafia. And the story is something we have everywhere. The dump "someone did aweful things to me, so i now kill everyone untill I am able to get revenge" does not fit into the series. The special thing was in 1 & 2, that we just play a part of a person, who is nothing special. And we were never driven by dump hate. They just try to live their life and run into problems. Mafia 3 was one of my biggest disapointments ever, cause i had hope for a real "Mafia" Game.
I dont understand how its called mafia when you’re playing as someone who isn’t even in the mafia nor is he even the right race to be able to join the mafia. A mob game should be you playing as an italian guy in an actually family
There were and always have been multiple forms of criminal organizations dubbed as mafia, Jewish, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, French, Irish, and Black mobs. Note also that American Italian gangsters didn't refer to themselves as mafia, but Cosa Nostra or "Our Thing." Lincoln Clay was indeed a mobster.
@TheLaughing_Dragon for the first two games you played as an Italian, setting a precedent that Mafia=Italian. Breaking away from that would always cause issues. If the second game had went with one of the other groups you mentioned things would have been different.
Still to this day this game has one of the best stories out during 2016 playing it back to back the setting the time and music was amazing and Lincoln as a character was great and that ending with him and Marcano was top 5 scenes of all time.
I personally think this game is underrated. Did it have problems? Yes, it did. Every game does, but i still really enjoyed my time playing it. I still sometimes play it in 2024
I loved the game I’m a mafia fanatic my thing was that it lacked a lot of the realism from the sixties like the black mob or Sammy’s gang weren’t really thought out unfortunately it would have been cool having him as one of the main contacts before he and Ellis died’ in the game Lincoln would’ve been able call’ vehicle deliveries’ hit squads and take overs from Sammy and Ellis also they should have shed more light on the the brotherly bond between Lincoln and Ellis Robinson hanging out back in the day listening to the music of the sixties kinda experience the atmosphere of young America juke joints teenagers having fun chicken racing in the streets hot roddin everything the developers could have done more to mafia three and still would have been able to pull off an amazing story.
I noticed a lot of people complained about the mafia definitive editions driving handling was horrible but I liked it because it makes it feel more realistic because the cars from back then didn’t have the greatest steering so the fact that it’s harder to turn the car makes it far more challenging, fun and interesting because it’s not just like every other racing game
One of my favorite parts of the game were the cutscenes for Donovan and Senator Blake. Especially the ending, when Donovan brings up all the JFK accusations and kills Blake on camera. But the setting of the game is easily my favorite thing about it and why it’s one of my favorite games. I loved the time period, city, music, and cars. The dlcs were pretty fun too.
2:00 Got nothing to do with being compared to GTA. The first Mafia game came out 10 months after GTA 3, was only availlable on PC yet people played the shit out of it cause it was amazing. Mafia 3 was a very bad console port with tons of very bad glitches and bugs. It was a mess of a game - a polished turd is still a turd.
Personally, I didn't mind the simple story. If anything, what to me felt like the game's biggest, most gaping hole of a mistake would be two-fold... one, they essentially turned a 6-10 hour campaign story into nearly 30 hours by padding it out with missions that should have been persistent side quests that you could do for fun... two, they should have made all missions/chapters/DLC quests replayable from a select screen... and a bonus that stitches all these two together would be the fact that they never added NG+. Always felt weird finally getting my hands on the best weapons only to have two story missions left to finish. And then the world is absolutely empty after all is said and done. Replay value is key to making a player come back, especially for singleplayer, story-focused games. I can replay Mafia II and the remake of Mafia I anytime I want cuz I could pretty much pick and choose what mission I'd love to reexperience from a menu screen. Heck... Mafia III could have been the most replayable since I personally found the gunplay and combat to be some of the best in the series and even in a lot of third person shooters in general. Only issues of note with the action parts would be the movement jank and the weirdly stiff death animations that often turn into buggy ragdolls. I loved and hated my time with Mafia III. And it's such a shame. And I do agree that missions during Lincoln's time in Vietnam would have been a nice way of fleshing out his character even more. Maybe have him do questionable things due to the desperate times of war and such.
My problem is that its not a Mafia game, where is the realism and details from the other 2 games? Mafia 1 launched around the time gta 3 and vc did, and it was a whole different league. Also, the main character having the depth of a puddle and the charisma of a rock doesnt help.
To me it was a 9 game, except for the amount of BLUR effect and low sharpness overall ... what i liked the most was the moment when the priest was telling us Clay's story from his POV ... and the cherry on top ( THE MUSIC )
I personally loved it. I agree the repetitive nature of it did drag it down a little but I enjoyed it. I finished it and the DLC three times. I do like your suggestions to make it better. The one thing I had a hang up on was the seemingly lack of music. I guess GTA had me spoiled. Lol.
I liked this game a lot. A lot of the game was very repetitive. The boxing mission was nice but I think it needed more unique missions. This game felt very basic. It didn’t feel different. It would have been better if the story play was different.
the dlcs of mafia 3 were amazing. Stones Unturned was the most action-filled dlc with great rewards. Faster Baby was also a great dlc, action, great plot, especially when the Slim guy suddenly appears in Lincoln and Roxy’s territory, Lincoln grabs a folder for roxy because they were planning on doing something with it. Slim waits at the front door holding his 12 gauge, and when lincoln opened the door, lincoln got shot square in the chest by a shotgun. Sign of the times, I overlooked and thought it wasnt that good, but i played it again, and realized that it might be one of the best dlcs i played in this game. It’s a completely different story, basically a horror story, because Lincoln chases after a cult that tried to manipulate and kill a young girl. Plot twist: The girl committed suicide due to being mentally manipulated by the cult, in the end of the story. I got access to throwing knives, which ended up being fairly useful in combat. Got a little scared playing this one because there are horror and supernatural stuffs in that dlc. Harless Mansion, The weird mansion thats across the water from Barclay Mills that is to the very left of the map, or Bonnies hideout in Downtown
I remember playing mafia 3 around the time when hanger 13 announced that its dlcs will be free for all players, i played it on ps4 around 2024 and i was blown away by the story and soundtrack, however my only grip with the game was how it forces you to do the side missions in order to progress through the story, which is something that was needed in mafia 2, however it was very repetitive and it would bug on me a few times making me to back out to the main menu and restart, but overall i had a great time with it
What I hated about Mafia 3 is it just didn't feel like a Mafia game. "Black man done wrong" and "huwyte man bad" have no business in a Mafia game, I'm sorry. They could've made it an entirely different game and not include it in the franchise. When I think of the mafia, I think Goodfellas, The Godfather, The Sopranos etc. Not civil rights circa 1968.
uuuhhh you can't say that but in all seriousness RDR2 did not had THIS much mention of racism, and it was set in 1896. I never lived in 1968, or Louisiana, but i'm sure as hell, racism issue in this game is vastly exaggerated.
Why? Racism isn’t even the main theme in this game. And if you really think that the whole plot of this game is “black man done wrong and white man bad” then you clearly haven’t played the full game. And the Mafia was at its height during the 60s. And the Gidfather takes place only a decade after, and Goodfellas takes place during when the Mafia was at a decline. The race of the character, setting, or story isn’t the issue, it’s the gameplay.
@@Highonlife24 You're kidding, right? It's almost like the key focal point in most situations. So much so that it becomes nauseating. Ugh, and of course you're one of those "if you (insert disagreeing factor here) then you clearly didn't do the thing" yeah-no I did play the game and the story is mid at best. When I play a game titled MAFIA I expect it to involve Italian gangsters. Not black revolutionaries. Tell me, would they ever make a game where bIm are the villains? Highly doubtful.
@@unnamed715 No it isn’t, racism is a background theme in the time he lives in but it’s not the vocal point of the story, the main point of the story is Lincoln Clay killing the family that betrays him. The racism we see is casual slurs thrown around by white characters which fits the time period no different how Paulie and Sam always say racial slurs against Asians and Irish in Mafia 1. The world building in the beginning of the game, and killing Remi Duvall the KKK leader but everything else is about the revenge so no I disagree.
I don't get it. I would like this game if it's just based on revenge most of the game. When you seek revenge, it sometimes takes awhile to get to everyone that ever did you wrong. Movies are like that often. The whole movie will be seeking revenge, and then near the end you go after the boss and all the top guys around him.
so i just played mafia 1 definitive edition never played mafia in my life , really liked the graphics does the definitive edition of 3 have comparable graphics ?
My biggest issue with Mafia 3 is, it doesn’t feel like you’re part of a Mafia, where is the family aspect? 99% of the game you’re on your own doing missions but in Mafia 2 and Mafia 1 Remake you’re always with other members of a mafia doing jobs. I like Mafia 3 because of the late 60s setting and I have been periodically been playing with my dad while we’ve been drinking for the past 2 years, we’re almost done with the game now and he enjoys it but when we played Mafia 2 we beat that in like 3 months.
@6:48 Donovan had a mission with Lincoln in "stone unturned" DLC, I guess people don't like that either!. I love the game, I enjoyed it, Ill take nothing away from it.
I actually really liked the game. Despite some valid criticism. Gameplay is shallow, attention to detail is lacking compared to the other games. But the graphics are beautiful, cutscenes are unmatched and acting is sublime. Whilst the story is heavily padded out with the repetitive racked stuff the story is otherwise fantastic. This game could easily be made into a movie, not only because it’s a great plot but also because unfortunately that plot is probably only about 2 hrs of content in between all the sneaking around, stabbing, shooting and driving.
I think there is a really good game in there somewhere, however it's brought down by the endless Ubisoft style repetitive slop sidequests. If ever there was a game in need of a Director's Cut this would be it.
Not long finished Mafia 3 I thought it was great. Ruled with all 3 of my underbosses. The soundtrack, storytelling and cinematics were great. Yes the missions near the end get a bit repetitive but its worth it. The DLC were also great. Be interesting to see how the upcoming Mafia plays as its set in Sicily 1900s
I like the game, but I’m also realistic and I agree after a certain point in the game it’s like the story just stops and becomes repetitive monotony. When I finished 2, it sent shivers down my spine, I was looking for 3 to top that like: (give me Denzel in Man on Fire)! but unfortunately it fell short. I do enjoy playing it and “hanging out” in 1960s southern USA though!
For me I loved the initial 3 hours and couldn't understand why people hated it on it. But a couple hours after that it just felt like a grind and I realised that even tho the setting is excellent, the gameplay is just not fleshed out enough.
Btw you are soo right about the vibe, it's great in this game. When that scene happens, and it's playing I believe Paint it Black, I was soooooo hyped. And there were so many moments I felt perfectly like it re-created that time period and it felt way better than a lot of games do(especially nowadays). Unfortunately just like you, I was super invested, until I wasn't. I started playing this game three separate times. Once on PS, once on PC and then finally on Xbox, and I just gave up every time.. unfortunately.
As a black and knowing the history of the Mafia, the story was pretty decent. Mafia has always had associates, hangouts and more that was unaffiliated to the mob side of things. Repetitive was sonething i questioned when the game released like what rpg or adventure style game wasn't rinse repeat different map or person. Going revisit on the ps5 since a new mafia is coming
Mafia 1 - masterpiece Mafia 2 - good story, but no side missions - all sold as DLC, no mellee - all sold as DLC, no multiple ending - picked the one without any sence = sux Mafia 3 - just a joke...
I think that the side missions could have been better. In the previous mafia titles, there weren't a lot of side activities, but the story missions were often so well crafted and unique that it wasn't really a problem. In Mafia 3, they included side jobs for the different gangs you controlled, but most of them boiled down to going to x place and stealing x thing filled with contraband to increase that gangs money/ earn. If they had made these side jobs more unique, maybe by having you do classic mafia type stuff like robbing a certain store on the map that contains more money than the other stores you can find or something like that. I thought the best side stuff was the hit jobs you do for Vito, since at least with those you were getting closure on the ending of Mafia 2. Also, idk if you played the Definitive Edition, but on the original version from 2016 there are probably 100 different bugs and graphical failures.
Great story & protagonist. It would have been tremendous as a television series or movie trilogy. It was absolutely subpar as a videogame due to the repetitive mission structure & desolate (albeit beautiful) open world. It would have been much better if it was linear. It was open world and it felt like they had no idea what to do with that.
Love the look of this game. Really enjoyed the cars of this era. Not to mention the music! The story is simple and straight forward. I didn't hate it. I did always expect someone to betray Lincoln though.
I feel like the part where Marcarno betrayed you just right after the heist after the game starts felt pretty rushed. Look, I know Salieri betrays you after the bank job, but it happens at the end.
@@SauravBundhoo The difference is the story. Salieri betrayed Tommy because Tommy robbed the bank with Pauli behind his back without giving him a cut. Salieri for the entire game didn’t have a reason to betray Tommy or Pauli as both of them were loyal soldiers up until that point in the end. The betrays and murder of Sammy and Ellis Robinson and Danny Burke with Lincoln nearly dying was a result of issues that was happening before Lincoln returned from Vietnam. Sammy and Ellis were struggling and missing payments to Sal Marcano and his family to continue running their operations and the Haitians causing trouble in Del Ray Hollow wasn’t helping them, Sal Marcano felt that Sammy was no longer a reliable associate to consistently provide him with a cut of the take, and when Lincoln after returning refuses to take Sal’s offer to replace Sammy to run the daily operations in the Hollow, that sealed his and his families fate. Lincoln didn’t understand how actually bad his families financial situation and debt to the Mafia was, and Sal had it with Sammy and was already planning on getting rid of him. And the moment Lincoln refused the offer Sal saw all of them as forfeit and just decided to kill all of them after the robbery and keep all of the money for himself. I don’t think this was rushed as this story any suppose to be a build up to the betrayal, it’s Lincoln’s despair and pathway to revenge after. Lincoln’s story greatly differs from Tommy as Tommy was the one who went behind his bosses back after years of loyalty but was tired of being in life threatening ing situations when he is newly married with a child. Lincoln’s story is that of revenge when he was completely played by someone he and his family showed absolute loyalty to and didn’t understand his true intentions. So I think the betrayal in the beginning of Mafia three works well, to tell Lincoln’s revenge mission story.
This game was fantastic from the environments to the way each vehicle handled uncharted 2 was one of my all time favorites but I have played mafia 3 multiple times and I just enjoy it!!!
The thing that I really love about mafia 3 is the gunplay it hits really hard every weapons feels powerful and the way Lincoln’s move whenever you aim and making that small animation step feels more immersive you feel his rage when he’s fighting, unlike gta 5 don’t get me wrong it’s one of the best game but I feel like they should’ve done better about the gunplay
There is nothing wrong with the game, you just like it or not. It's my most played Mafia game because of the movement/gunfight/gun mechanics, those are cluncky in Mafia 1 and 2. The game has soon sold 9,5 million copies, and it's still the best selling Mafia game and the reason Mafia 4 and 5 was approved.
Just cause you never found anything wrong with the game in any way, doesn't mean definitively that it has no issues at all. Plenty of graphics bugs and crashes that still haven't been ironed out years after it's release(the sunglare reflections and mirror reflections are the most nortoriois). Stop the cope lmao, this is coming from someone with almost 200 hours in the game 😗
@@crumdrum I have never said the game was perfect. The story is the best of the 3 games, but 90% the missions is the same over and over again. I wish Vito and the other bosses had a much bigger part of the game and its missions, as the mission where Michael Grecco is kidnapped. The game should have been like the first 2 hours throughout the game. The DLC' except of Sign of the Times fixed this problems. The bugs has never been fixed because of 2K.
i love this game. found the driving more enjoyable than the first game. i believe i’ve beaten the game completely around 4 times. one of the few games i can say i’ve played multiple times besides for gta v
I had more fun beating mafia 3 than i did gta 5. I won't act like mafia 3 is better than gta but the story in mafia 3 is definitely better. Mechanics and all that don't necessarily make a game more fun to play. Sometimes it does but not here. I enjoyed every second of mafia 3 and can't say the same for gta 5. Thanks for the video. Well done sir
I just finished Mafia 3 yesterday and I agree with most points you said. Only 1 thing I think differently is the game was too easy because the AI was too stupid. I used only the first free silenced pistol and stealthed through 95% of the game without enemies alert. You can keep whistling behind the wall and the AIs just walk to get 1 shot silently on the head, repeat... If something goes wrong you still have slow time mode and the renforce NPCs to help. For the whole game I like the vibes but I feel like I was playing Far Cry + Hit Man and a driving game. (with Call of Duty stolen nuke thingy DLC.)
I enjoyed mafia 3 the most with the world and music and gameplay and for me, the story was a little more interesting, but what really messed up this game was how grinding it is. It feels like you’re doing side quest after side quest, not switching up the gameplay at all, it becomes repetitive. Stretching out a linear story making it 2 to 3 more hours longer. Instead, they should have built more into being a mafia boss, controlling more aspects of it.
Currently playing it. I thought it was a bad game back in the day - but it's actually a pretty good game. The shooting is great and stealth is fun, but too OP. It has a lot of repetitive content, but it's a great third person shooter. It has a good story but.... well, this game should have been more intense with its content to actually "feel" like a mafia game. It's too stretched... and also the protagonist is only on a badass revenge trip, he doesn't have the depth of the other mafia characters.
I feel that too, expecially the gta competitor part, wich is weird since they are owned by the same company lmao

As a Mafia game - not so much.
The original is still the best.

DId gta online have that? I never played it much
@@andypantsgaming idk… maybe I only have the offline games. Mafia 1 and 2 were flanderizations of the mob, mafia activities aren't all shoot outs and making quick one-time scores. Soo boring that you have to do the annoying side quest before you can progress to the main story. 🤦♂️
@@andypantsgaming I wish they kept the semi linear story path from the other Mafia games
Mafia II was a masterpiece in my mind. Such great storytelling.
As a black Texan the most annoying thing about that game to me was the black people's accents lol black people from Louisiana do not talk like that at all, it grated on my ears every time I had to hear a black Mississippi/Alabama accent on a person who was supposed to be a black person from New Orleans. I had to keep saying to myself "well it's not New Orleans, it's a fictional city, so the accents are fine."
But beyond that it was a cool game, it was just insanely repetitive.
I honestly love this game. I finished it 6 times now and got all achievments. It's a forgotten masterpiece

my main gripe with mafia 3 was reducing vito to a underling to some guy we barely know knowing his backstory it felt out of place He did prison time went to war etc
Also, another problem I had was Lincoln Clay, taking over the rackets instead of just outright destroying them he’s profiting off of the same evil he’s against makes his mission seem disingenuous
I mean he wasn't a boy scout he was a criminal he was only going after them ppl because they betrayed him killed his family and tried to take him out too
father james the entire story is talking about how lincoln is being corrupted
Not sure what you expected out of a guy who came from up North to the South. As an outsider he wasn't going to get high up. As far as Lincoln's story goes, THATS THE POINT! He was so hell bent on destroying the man that he became the very same thing he hated (although with slightly better morality).
Vito got off a lot better than the protaganist of Mafia I.
Because Lincoln is a mobster too?
In the end I feel Mafia 3 was more memorable for the story and vibes compared to GTA 5 which is fun oriented only
You don’t find m3 to be super repetitive?
@@fartsinurmouth123 Yes it was a lot. But still more memorable than GTA 5 which had no particular vibe and story was just meh
thats facts the Soundtracks was amazing like I be shocking my Uncle like how you know these songs from the 60s
I would like a Game set in Germany in the mid 40s and 50s going to into the coldwar like you play as a spy for the USSR.
Nahh that sounds boring.. cod stuff
In that case You should definitely check "death to the spies" games.
The first two are set in separate cities. Only the second game takes place in Empire Bay.
There was so many times I’d just mow down people with ease and not even think about calling one of my underbosses except the arms dealer
even Bumpy Johnson that story was cold I like how they brought it to the South cause New Orleans was a Mafia town
"Creative differences" are exactly why Mafia 3 failed where the first 2 succeeded.
In 2024 I am flat out of gas to deal with anything that has the word "racism" attached to it.
Racism is always there regardless of year.
Today it would be panned by content creators as woke and pandering to black people. Still sold well. Oh how times change
Mafia 3 has the best combat and music in the trilogy. Lincoln's brutal take over and revenge was well done too.
I liked it it just became too damn repetitive. Never evolved the story any it was literally just revenge for 25 hours.
Soundtrack is top 3 in all of gaming only game in my eyes that competes with it is GTA vice city
Combat in the game is fun but my favorite is the driving mechanics because they remind me of gta iv
I beat this game 3 different times I do feel the DLC. Was more open than the main game
I played through Mafia 3 last month for the first time too, I honestly loved it, I don't get why it gets such a bad rap
I give it a lot of credit for such a great use of music of the time, I'm a sucker for great use of music in games and movies
Have you played the first two?
1:50 and this is why the new Mafia NEED to get released at least some months before GTA VI.
you actually can double cross your allies, i think you overlooked a great aspect of this game.
Well said. I liked a lot of the things you mentioned as well
My biggest problem with mafia 3 is the combat. It felt so off I went back to mafia 2 to see if my nostalgia had blindsided me. Aiming your gun just feels odd and unpleasant in 3.
Mafia 3 isn't a mafia game for obvious reasons
My opinion hanger 13 should have written Lincoln story should have been a spin off to mafia that takes place from the perspective of their rivals weather it be gangs other crime syndicate factions independent contractors victims and so on
Instead of calling it mafia 3 call it factions or name it after the theme of the story i.e Lincoln story is a revenge story and he's a military man so they could of called it vengeance of valor
But this is just my opinion feel free to agree or disagree
I don't see the problem. "Mafia" is applied in everyday language to all manner of organized crime and there are only so many different ways you can tell the story of an Italian-American man getting involved in the Mafia.

True that. Those 2 games are really unique.

Mafia 3s glitched trophies are unforgivable for me. It’s the only one I’m missing to complete the trilogy
I loved this game for the era and vibe and I thought the dlcs were strong / growing that weed empire was a blast. Still think 2 is the goat ofc.
Glad you liked it!
Nothing screams mafia game like black dude not in the mafia
He’s an associate of the Mafia as the Mafia in real life who had many associates who worked with them and were not of Italian descent.
For example the mobster that Jimmy Conway played by Robert De Niro in Goodfellas is based off of is a man named James Burke who worked alongside closely with the Mob and he wasn’t Italian at all. He was Irish. And there are many real life examples of this including African American mob associates.
So Lincoln being a black main protagonist in a Mafia game doesn’t make it not a Mafia game as Lincoln’s role as an associate with the Mob makes perfect sense.

I think the biggest Problem of the game is the name "Mafia", beside the repetitive gameplay.

Cry
Not playing as an italian was kind of a reason i didnt purchase this one
Yeah lol it’s not even a mafia game, the mafia are just in it. You’re just some black guy who crosses them 😂
@@Mitch_Conner75926How is it not a Mafia game when you are literally an associate of the Mob?
I noticed a lot of people complained about the mafia definitive editions driving handling was horrible but I liked it because it makes it feel more realistic because the cars from back then didn’t have the greatest steering so the fact that it’s harder to turn the car makes it far more challenging, fun and interesting because it’s not just like every other racing game
Hopefully you review the dlc
One of my favorite parts of the game were the cutscenes for Donovan and Senator Blake. Especially the ending, when Donovan brings up all the JFK accusations and kills Blake on camera. But the setting of the game is easily my favorite thing about it and why it’s one of my favorite games. I loved the time period, city, music, and cars. The dlcs were pretty fun too.
The bugs and the crashes did it for me. The environment and gunplay wasn't that immersive either.

You have a solid opinion and you voice it clearly! Im subscribing for that great job man !
My man said the first Mafia takes place in Empire Bay🤦♂️
My problem is that its not a Mafia game, where is the realism and details from the other 2 games?
Mafia 1 launched around the time gta 3 and vc did, and it was a whole different league.
Also, the main character having the depth of a puddle and the charisma of a rock doesnt help.
I remember playing Mafia when it came out on the pc at my uncles house and remember it being one of the best games I ever played in my life
To me it was a 9 game, except for the amount of BLUR effect and low sharpness overall ... what i liked the most was the moment when the priest was telling us Clay's story from his POV ... and the cherry on top ( THE MUSIC )
0:23 wtf he from uncharted
Not civil rights circa 1968.
uuuhhh you can't say that
but in all seriousness RDR2 did not had THIS much mention of racism, and it was set in 1896.
@@mikhaiIs Exactly! I don't know why that's so difficult to comprehend.
That was my favorite DLC out of all of them
I actually really liked the game.
The Andy pants today would call this woke propaganda
I loved this game and all the DLCs. Lincoln Clay is a legend. And the time setting was awesome.
Mafia 1 - masterpiece
Mafia 2 - good story, but no side missions - all sold as DLC, no mellee - all sold as DLC, no multiple ending - picked the one without any sence = sux
Mafia 3 - just a joke...
I love it because of the gunplay action & based on my state of Louisiana.
Mafia 3 is like you’re playing as a victim of the Mafia.
Yes you are playing as a former associate now become a victim of the Mafia family that betrays you.
What went wrong great series 👍keep it up about other games and old games too 😃
The thing that I really love about mafia 3 is the gunplay it hits really hard every weapons feels powerful and the way Lincoln’s move whenever you aim and making that small animation step feels more immersive you feel his rage when he’s fighting, unlike gta 5 don’t get me wrong it’s one of the best game but I feel like they should’ve done better about the gunplay
It have the best music from Jim Bonney ❤
I liked the game and I liked the theme incredibly. Was brilliant
i love this game. found the driving more enjoyable than the first game. i believe i’ve beaten the game completely around 4 times. one of the few games i can say i’ve played multiple times besides for gta v
I only played a few hours of Mafia 3. The story seemed really cool and interesting, however the repetative missions is what made me put the game down.
I loved mafia 3 one of the best mafias to me and I love the storyline
Loved it!....my fav yet! I for one don't like standing still in time!
