    2:49 Is that safe clip humanly possilble? And how much time does it save?

    • @FitterSpace
      @FitterSpace  6 років тому +8

      That clip is really precise and it's tricky to survive once you get out of bounds. You have to jump into a specific part of the safe while the door is falling down. It'll push Bond through the wall and you can keep strafing to land on a part of the ground outside. If you miss the ground, you'll fall off the map and die. It saves almost no time even if you get it perfect, so nobody ever goes for it in runs. I remember testing it a few years ago and I think it saves about half a second.

    can someone please explain how it's possible to have such perfect aim?

    • @FitterSpace
      @FitterSpace  5 років тому +12

      This is a tool-assisted speedrun. This means that the run was played on emulator with tools such as frame advance (playing the game frame by frame), savestates (being able to essentially rewind mistakes), and TAS input (a program that lets you script each input). These tools allow us to craft a theoretically perfect run. These types of speedruns are not meant to show skill but to instead entertain an audience. They do not compete with normal speedrunners playing in real time.

    I see you finish this faster than gamerfreak video of Nightfire TAS. Can you explain? His video is 41:30 but your is 42:47. Yet you beat him by a few minutes. What's the difference shown in this run that make you beat his time?

    • @FitterSpace
      @FitterSpace  4 роки тому +1

      This video includes the credits while gamerfreak's video does not, so that adds a few minutes to the video time. But as far as gameplay is concerned, this run is quite a bit shorter than the old TAS if you start from the beginning of The Exchange and end when "Mission Complete" appears at the end of Equinox. The old TAS on Gamerfreak's channel is 39:26 (that video has a typo in the title. it says it's 37:26 but it's actually 39:26) but this one is 32:47.

    • @FitterSpace
      @FitterSpace  6 років тому +5

      This is currently the only spot in the game that requires the use of the decryptor. There are other spots, too, but we can clip past the rest of them. At some points in the TAS (i.e. the second section in Phoenix Fire), I can type in the code because the code is set when the map loads (you're intended to find the code from a computer in an office and memorize it, then type it in). But this door in Night Shift doesn't have a code you can find in the level, so it has to be decrypted no matter what.

    • @joh1997dude
      @joh1997dude 4 роки тому

      @@FitterSpace but wouldn't you be able to get the decrypted code with the gadget and then edit the Tas to do it without the decryptor

    • @FitterSpace
      @FitterSpace  4 роки тому

      @@joh1997dude Yes. Unfortunately that doesn't always work so I assumed that keycard spot was random in that level, and that's what I told gamerfreak when he was doing that part of the TAS. But since this TAS was made, I've found that most of the time, the code stays the same and you can figure it out using the decryptor and loading a savestate. In this TAS, that didn't work but I think it could have if we would have guessed different combinations while only changing the last digit. For whatever reason, the 4th digit of the code varies only in the Night Shift level, but I didn't know that at the time.

    • @jakea7065
      @jakea7065 4 роки тому

      @@FitterSpace If there's 10,000 combinations, could you have a script that reloads the save state and brute forces until a correct combination is found? Detecting a successful combination without babysitting would be a bit tricky however.
      With the Dolphin emulator and the GC version, you could view the RAM data and assembly. Maybe that could be used? It would take some analyzing to find the combination.

    • @FitterSpace
      @FitterSpace  4 роки тому

      @@jakea7065 All that is possible but it's overkill for this situation. In this case, only the last digit of the code seems to vary, so you can figure out the first three with only a savestate. Then from there you could just guess the last digit and figure it out pretty quickly.

  • @stoopidhaters
    @stoopidhaters 6 років тому +2

    I noticed you are playing this on 00 Agent for Any% due to the helicopter taking way more hits than the usual 3 on Operative. Surely you would have saved more time playing on Operative. Correct me if I'm wrong, I only recently got into speedrunning Nightfire. The only thing I can think of is so you can get Gold medals easier without needing to do extra shit like bond moves, kill lots of enemies etc.

    • @FitterSpace
      @FitterSpace  6 років тому +3

      This TAS plays on 00 Agent difficulty because it's the same difficulty the previous TAS played on. The only difference it makes here is the boss fights are a bit longer. But it lets us show off some cool strategies with the fights that aren't possible on Operative difficulty.

      I've had a lot more fun doing TASes and I think I get a better final product by making them. Speedruns are not out of the question but I don't have plans to go back to it for the time being.

    • @stoopidhaters
      @stoopidhaters 6 років тому

      Yeah TASes do look fun to make, also very helpful to the speedrunning community.
      By the way, have you considered using thunderball/octopussy control schemes for TAS runs? From my experience, they have a faster strafe than all the other schemes but are very awkward to use in normal runs/IL's, I kinda figured they would be optimal for TAS runs.

      3:37 is the best possible time on the North American NTSC version that this TAS uses. As far as I'm aware, 3:36 is only possible on the European/Australian PAL version, but it's the same amount of real time anyway so it doesn't matter for a full-game run like this.

    • @FitterSpace
      @FitterSpace  5 років тому +10

      This is a TAS, which stands for tool-assisted speedrun. That means the run was done on an emulator with tools like savestates and frame advance, and input recording. Essentially, it means you can script the inputs and rewind to fix mistakes. These kinds of tools are used to create entertaining and fast runs and serves to show what's technically possible in the game without human limitations.

  • @PSXDRIVERPLAYERBSTH
    @PSXDRIVERPLAYERBSTH 6 років тому

    Nice run you guys did there. Though I don't get the "entertain viewer when nothing can't be done" -rule, to me, they're entertaining already without that stuff. Then, any chances of seeing runs of The World Is Not Enough on PS1 or N64?

    • @FitterSpace
      @FitterSpace  6 років тому +2

      PSXDRIVERPLAYERBSTH If I'm able to make the run more entertaining without costing time, I do it. Because TASes take so much time and effort to make, spending a little extra time to make it more entertaining (like the noscope in chain reaction) is worth it in the long run. Otherwise, you'll end up with a TAS that only strafes from point a to point b quickly. This is especially true for scripted levels like Equinox. If there's no possible time save, spend the waiting time doing something interesting. Also if it doesn't make the run slower, do it.
      As for TWiNE, Mavalock is working on a N64 TAS. It's really good so far. You can see his WIP's on UA-cam or TASVideos forums. Currently nobody is working on a TWiNE PSX TAS and I don't plan to for the time being.

    • @PSXDRIVERPLAYERBSTH
      @PSXDRIVERPLAYERBSTH 6 років тому

      Well you got a point there, but eh. I don't mind entertainment that much, I just get slightly annoyed as I'm expecting strafing from point A to point B pretty much.
      Guess I'll watch this Mavalock guy a bit then, seeing as I've played some N64 TWINE recently, and it's surfaced prototype (where you can't break the game as much as the final one in certain regards).
