My opinion is that dooku trained jedi in a precise single-handed manor as he took pride in it and then since the sith have the nature to try and overthrow their master he taught grievous ventress and savage the more sloppy multi-bladed manor so if they tried to overthrow him he could use his own precise style to disarm them easily

@@leifkhas7425 Almost all of what you said is wrong. Yeah Ashoka is a true Jedi at least by the time of the Siege Of Mandalor, and Maul is most definitely a true Sith that has power we rarely see in films/series. But Grievous was a true warrior that had a lot of intense training and in legends would scare the likes of Mace Windu, yeah he was helped largely by cybernetic enhancements but the ‘little skill’ part is so wrong, Grievous was adept in all 7 lightsaber forms and could adapt his fighting style to any opponent he faced, he was just as skilled as he was terrifying. Asajj Ventress was much more of an assassin than a Sith, she was good with lightsabers and quite sadistic but she never really became much of a Sith, she was swayed very easily by Quinlan Vos and spent most of her time doing assassin and bounty hunter work, and honestly her force abilities were very limited. As for Savage, yeah he may have been bit of a brute when it came to lightsaber combat and was honestly more skilled as a Dathomorian warrior then a Sith warrior of any kind but he did receive lightsaber training from both Dooku and Maul, how else would he be able to fight against Sidious longer than a lot of Jedi master’s ever could. Plus he was equally very powerful with the force, it was actually said Savage was naturally more powerful with the force than his younger brother Maul, but Maul’s years of refinement and Sith training made him much more powerful overall.
This used to confuse the hell out of me, and seemed totally out of character for someone like Dooku. Now it makes perfect sense, and it's honestly a really interesting look into his psyche! Great video, Lore Star! :)
I think dooku taught them an inferior style because he knew at some point he may have to defeat them himself. the nature of the sith is betrayal. also, I think he taught Grievous the 4-armed spinning style as a way to compensate for his lack of force sense. knowing he was to go against force wielders, he would need every advantage.
Dooku did not train them improperly. His pride wouldn't allow that. It would make him look like a terrible teacher. Though, his students constant failures already did that. All of his students.
I think this is spot on. Trained well enough to brute force the Jedi, yet he can take them. Plus the Sith are supposed to be two at a time; so it’s like the hunger games, eventually he’s going to have to cut it down to killing his master (failed since Palpantine recognized Anakin as superior) and killing all but one of his apprentices.
Yep, when Grievious did his lawnmower O' doom bit Obi-wan was shitting himself because there's no counter to it. Switching to a more normal style was a mistake as it gave Obi-wan a chance then.

Dooku : **Has an apprentice that can master all 7 forms of Lightsaber fighting style in less than a month and potentially defeat Darth Maul and Vader** Also Dooku : I hate this man
@Qut Boy Probably Grievous since it's often stated that Grievous learned and mastered all 7 forms of Lightsaber fighting (though traditionally he seems to not use any one of them and rather combines styles, often taking advantage of his unorthodox body and physical advantages). Granted both how capable Grievous is and Dooku's opinion of Grievous varies wildly depending after who's writing them.
@Kane Abel Thats also a problem in the EU, where tey made a lot of charachters so powerfull, like Darthh Nihilus, that breaks saying that any of the charachters in the films was the most powerful.
one small thing that wasn't really mentioned in the video (which i see relevant to Grievous' combat style) is that Grievous was not just using brute strength to beat his opponents, but he had a very unsettling way to fight with lightsabers as shown in the 2003 clone wars micro series, when fighting the Jedi masters. The use of the element of surprise and intimidation played a very big role in killing jedi since he himself could not use the force. The biggest issue when fighting Obi-wan in ROTS comes to the fact that Kenobi was very good at using Form 3 (defensive stance). you may also notice, how at the beginning of the duel, he was not sure on how to approach Grievous' "spin attack" which goes back to the idea that Grievous' unorthodox fighting style relayed on surprise, confusion and mostly Intimidation.
It was Grievous’s four armed Jar’Kai, wasn’t it... Edit: I say Ventress was the best dueling apprentice in the post Jedi Dooku Era... Grievous and Savage were both brute force attackers, Ventress didn’t have the nature physical strength for such tactics.
Grievous has always confounded me. I remember when non force users couldn't even ignite a lightsaber - because the Force is part of the power supply - much less fight using one.
Anybody else want a Qui-gon series? I'd take that over the Kenobi series. We need more info about Qui-gon. The man is the ideal Jedi yet barely has any screen time
There used to be a kid's novel series that explored Obi-Wan's time as Qui-gon's padawan, which delved into Qui-gon's past. Of course, the mouse would have you believe it isn't canon, but the mouse can kiss my ass.
How you managed to squeeze a 10 minute video out of this minor lore point where the entire thought process behind it was probably "hurr durr more lightsaber make star wars good" is beyond me, well done sir.
I think you might be right. Also, the Count is one of my favorite characters as I actually agree with many of his ideals, including sportsmanship in form 2 over others. Although I don't disrespect the other forms, I do feel that the lightsaber is more than a mere weapon. Furthermore, if I were to have been trained by the Count, I would've urged for Form 2 because of its elegance. Remember... Qui-Gon was actually using both hands when he died, meaning that he wasn't adhering to the training that he received. I do not believe that the Count is at fault for his apprentices death via bad training. Qui-Gon abandoned the training he received and sported two hands instead.
I feel that you looked for a more personal theory than one based solely on the aforementioned in-Canon facts that you started the video with. As you stated form-2 required lengthy time and commitment to be considered competitive and other Jedi generally didn't adopt it due to it being limited in scope, time consuming to learn and even longer to master. Dooku's apprentices did not have the time to commit to mastering form-2 which is why they were taught more popular forms. Furthermore, with form-2 being less proficient at countering blaster fire it was wise for him to teach his minions other forms as they were going to be mainly dealing with clone troopers and common thugs and rarely facing Jedi. In fact, the only apprentice to really begin to adopt form-2 was Ventress and this was no doubt due to her already having previous training with a lightsabre and other forms. So, the most plausible reason was simply a lack of time.
Other than that I think your shortchanging Grevious’s skill (Granted, TCW does that all the time, much to my chagrine, and he gets short changed a lot in new canon, which infuriates me (much as new canon does in general)), this all seems to make sense.
Pre-TCW Grievous was a beast! But in clone wars, he kills only a single Jedi over the course of all seven seasons... It is unfortunate, because while I love the Clone Wars, I hate how they handled Grievous.

I think a lot of the reason was kind of like how left-handed people see a slight advantage in 1v1 sports like tennis and fencing. Left-handed people are likely practicing against right-handed people, right? So they know how to play against right-handed people. However, statistically speaking, right-handed people will usually be practicing with other right-handed people- so *a left-handed fencer or tennis player will have the advantage until their right-handed opponent figures out how to adapt.* Jedi practiced in the temple with other Jedi. *Almost all of them used single blades and practiced against other single-blade styles.* Dooku's disciples practiced with Dooku. *They all used unorthodox weaponry and practiced against Dooku's single-blade style.* This would give them the advantage in first encounters with Jedi- and considering we have Grievous (who either goes for the kill or doesn't engage at all) and Ventress (an assassin), the first encounter _should_ be all that it takes. Really quite clever of him (and the writers, assuming they thought of this instead of thinking "haha villain design give crazy weapons").
Maby another reason is, that Sidios had two too. As he was trained from joda who has one blade, he trained his students to fight with one. As he changed to the dark side, his master hat two blades, so he toght his new students to also weld more
Count Dooku lightsaber style was more of a refined than General Grevious. While Grevious lightsaber style was more brute force along with trickery and the speed of his attacks.
About Asajj Ventress - I think she also might have preferred to use two lightsabers because when her first master died (invoking great rage and sadness) she grabbed his lightsaber and fought the opponent with two lightsabers. I think she held onto that style when becoming a sith to tap into that rage she felt, increasing the bond to the dark side
I feel that it's actually more skillful and respectable when one can use a two lightsabers. It's much harder to master 2 blade then one. Yes you have and advantage in overwhelming your opponents defense but it also makes you more vulnerable and your defense easier to break. What I mean is your holding a saber in each hand thus making your grip and attack strength weaker. So if someone with 1 saber gets you in a saber lick they have a higher chance of overpowering you. Plus most duelist using 2 sabers use Ataru which is one of the most taxing saber styles. One of the best examples is Vader vs Ahoska. She is able to get through Vader's guard while other jedi who faced him around and after this time struggle to keep up. I'm just saying it's not cheap because you need to be quite skilled to use it effectively.
One important advantage of dual wielding or using a double bladed saber is often just that most other jedi don't have much or any experience fighting against them, especially double bladed.
I agree with a good amount of what you said. Dooku was very skilled and practiced his technique for decades. He did have the time to teach Grievous and Ventress in the middle of a war. I'm a warrior myself, and I practice a bit of fencing in saber as well as longsword. Recently I've also begun working with a dagger in my offhand as well, even learning dagger against sword defenses. What I think of multiple weapons in hands? The warrior is what matters not the weapon, have enough skill with your weapon and you can overcome any disadvantage. Dooku possessed great skill that allowed him to disarm Anakin when he wielded two lightsabers after all. Wielding one weapon or two, its your skill that matters. Know how to use your weapon to its full potential, note the advantages and disadvantages it may have over your opponents weapon or their fighting style and exploit it.
I mean, that superiority complex from Dooku even rubbed off on Grievous a little. If you delve into some of the Legends Universe material, Grievous even noted at one or two points that he usually only used two sabers to defeat most of his opponents, while only resorting to four if he believed he was facing off against a duelist of similar skill to his own (ie Kenobi, Fisto, the quartet of Jedi Masters on Hypori, etc.). He also made it a point to utilize a mixture of the seven lightsaber combat forms because it was explained within the book Labyrinth of Evil that his method to defeat his opponents was to both use multiple forms together to keep his opponents off balance with his unpredictability, and to give him time to take advantage of his cybernetic enhancements to assess what lightsaber combat form his opponent was using and then adjusting his own lightsaber attacks to either use his opponents own attacks against them or use a lightsaber form that would naturally counter the one his foe was using (Ex: Form IV Ataru relies on agility and striking quickly but without much strength, which Grievous would then use his skills to wait until the Jedi using Ataru got tired before using Form V Shien/Djem So to overpower his opponent once they were unable to move around quickly). It was then explained that the reason Obi-Wan Kenobi was so successful against Grievous was because he was a master of Form III Soresu, which was mainly defensive oriented and only really used offensive strikes when openings could be found, which Grievous couldn't really counter as well when he was used to watching for what attacks his opponents were using, along with the fact that Kenobi was one of the few Jedi well attuned with the Force to the point that he could use the Force to assist him in sensing when such openings would present themsleves.
Honestly I think Duku is simply in denial that there are simply other forms of combat as well as tactics that could not only go toe to toe with his form but also possibly beat him. I personally in contrast with Dukus beliefs do not believe it is unsporting to use multiple bladed lightsabers whether it is duel wielding or double bladed. Although it seems cheap and “easy” to fight opponents using single bladed lightsabers with multiple blades I believe it is in no way shape or form easy to master. As you need excellent coordination to be very proficient in guiding two or more limbs in multiple directions of attack or defense. An Excellent example I believe to really drive this point home is Ashoka Tano who literally went toe to toe with Darth Vader who was the one who killed the “best duelist” who was also using a single bladed saber against him. Also the fact he is the chosen one with the power of the dark side making him an even more formidable foe. You would think that he would cut down Ashoka quicker than he did Duku but that’s not the case, why? Because Ashoka although was the formal student of Anakin now Darth Vader and was using a “cheap” and “easy”fighting style was a master in her form as evident with her duel with the dark lord Darth Vader. So the conclusion I am coming to is essentially Duku had the firm belief that with staggering amounts of time and dedication towards one’s craft was the key to being the best of the best and it was this belief that I think gave birth to this sort of poisoned pride within him that I believe ended up almost getting him killed by multiple bladed opponents as well as getting him killed by Anakin. Instead what he should’ve done was humble himself to the fact that yes, decades of training and practice does give a great advantage but it is not the deciding factor and nor should it be. Clearly multiple bladed forms as demonstrated by fights against Anakin and I think even Ventress that put him on the defensive a lot of times clearly showing that those type of fighting styles although not being equal in terms of elegance or precision to Duku’s form was clearly a sort of counter to it. This fact I believe is what really pissed off Duku and if he had just humbled himself and accepted that his way was not the only way and tried to maybe learn other forms that could perhaps match the power and aggressiveness of his opponents then he wouldn’t have these problems against multiple bladed opponents. With all of this being said, my final point I wish to touch on is that I think and I would like to know how many people agree with me on this and if the creator of this amazing video can correct me if I’m wrong, is that the best duelist is not the one with decades of training in perfecting one form or even the one who resorts to solely using easy styles or tricks. But it is the one that is a competent and versatile fighter that is willing to branch out to expand their knowledge and skills to be able to adapt and overcome the ever changing conditions of a duel. In short it is not the styles or constant training or practice in one form that decides a duel. It is the about the fighter’s willingness to accept their weaknesses just as easy as their strengths in order to adapt and overcome. Just as how Anakin did when he first faced Duku switching from his single bladed form straight to a duel wielding one to increase his aggression to overcome Duku’s style, as well as how Kit fisto did to match Grievous offensive capabilities as well as bolster his own defensive capabilities by being able to block blows from multiple directions at once with multiple blades.
Great analysis what's funny I'm reminded of Christopher Lee's role in the Four Musketeers as Rochefort when he fought, especially Michael York as D'Artangon.

My opinion is that dooku trained jedi in a precise single-handed manor as he took pride in it and then since the sith have the nature to try and overthrow their master he taught grievous ventress and savage the more sloppy multi-bladed manor so if they tried to overthrow him he could use his own precise style to disarm them easily
adding onto that, i think he had his apprentices use multiple blades so he could convince sidious that he wasn’t training his apprentices to be true sith that he would use to overthrow him, just expendable brutes
@@leifkhas7425 No we are saying that Sidious was one scary mf, so Dooku had to make his apprentices *seem* expendable so his ass doesn't get tortured to death.
Leif Khas No, this is all from the view point of Dooku.
@@leifkhas7425 is ahsoka a true jedi anyway?
Darth Vader: one light saber is all you need
Greivous: you fool another fine adition to my collection

@Qut Boy Probably Grievous since it's often stated that Grievous learned and mastered all 7 forms of Lightsaber fighting (though traditionally he seems to not use any one of them and rather combines styles, often taking advantage of his unorthodox body and physical advantages). They have no mass but generate lift when spinning. Disney logic
Grievous also had fear tactics, so he didn't need elegance to kill a panicking, fumbling mess that he could make of a Jedi.
Vader did not affect the Inquisitor's lightsaber design they existed before Vader met them.
Good point! Glad I saw this comment before I went ahead with that video, as I had forgotten about that Comic issue
Yes I did hate that I dont know why I bothered teaching him
one small thing that wasn't really mentioned in the video (which i see relevant to Grievous' combat style) is that Grievous was not just using brute strength to beat his opponents, but he had a very unsettling way to fight with lightsabers as shown in the 2003 clone wars micro series, when fighting the Jedi masters.
Ventress didn't have their strength but she made up for it with speed and relentlessness. That's why she fared the best (generally) in battles
All I could think was "we have purposefully trained him wrong as a joke" LOL
Dooku: It's unskillful to use two lightsabers

Dooku: No! You can't rely all of your fighting skill to cheap tactics and mechanical features!
Grievous: Haha saber go vwoom.
Wow! Great video. Extremely well executed, understandable and interesting. Good job

I loved that zooming in to spinning blades of Inquisitors lol like a "wtf is this?" moment lol
I think a lot of the reason was kind of like how left-handed people see a slight advantage in 1v1 sports like tennis and fencing.
Left-handed people are likely practicing against right-handed people, right? So they know how to play against right-handed people. However, statistically speaking, right-handed people will usually be practicing with other right-handed people- so *a left-handed fencer or tennis player will have the advantage until their right-handed opponent figures out how to adapt.*
Jedi practiced in the temple with other Jedi. *Almost all of them used single blades and practiced against other single-blade styles.*
Dooku's disciples practiced with Dooku. *They all used unorthodox weaponry and practiced against Dooku's single-blade style.*
This would give them the advantage in first encounters with Jedi- and considering we have Grievous (who either goes for the kill or doesn't engage at all) and Ventress (an assassin), the first encounter _should_ be all that it takes.
Great point. Count Dooku was a great swordsman. I agree with your points of view
As someone with some experience in swordplay, I can say that two swords is definitely an advantage if your opponent(s) are unused to dealing with it.

Good video brotha! Super compelling
I love your edits in this video adding in the voice lines 😂🤣💯💯

I think that 1 blade against 1 blade looks the most elegant
“I’ve been taught your Jedi arts by Count Dooku”

@@andrewfranks2154 Nice! Lol.
imagine grievous quad wielding double bladed sabers
my guy literally using 8 blades
I always thought it was weird that Jedi will grab a second saber even in one on one combat and they do it basically whenever they can
I mean, that superiority complex from Dooku even rubbed off on Grievous a little.
Dooku:I’ve been looking forward to this.
*Obiwan gives Anakin his lightsaber*
Dooku:I’m not looking forward to this.
Form 2 would be the best, if anyone in the Star Wars universe had ever realized that a light saber had a 360 degree cutting edge.
