I wish people didn’t focus on it being about Hollywood. It's a fun musical drama about pursuing your dreams, no matter what the cost. This movie got to me on a personal level because, as someone who dreams of being on Broadway or Hollywood one day, I can understand how challenging and heartbreaking this pursuit can be. But it also reminded me that every bit of it is worth it. While Moonlight was a great movie, it sort of took me back to the harsh reality that is around me. I like La La Land (and all musicals) because it takes me away from all that.

You know, that La La Land is a love letter to Old Hollywood, right? It's suppose to be a little sappy and sentimental. If you have ever seen Singin' in the Rain, you get the same "Hollywood Handjobness" you mention. But, I have never seen anyone complain about it. Than there is the inspiration from another Gene Kelly classic It's Always Fair Weather, in which three war pals meet up ten years after the war and realize they aren't who they once were. It's a somber musical that really rings true in the last 20 minutes of this movie. I think that you missed the point of this movie. It's not about giving Hollywood a pat on the back, it's about remembering the Hollywood that once was, even if it's not there anymore. But, then again, that's my opinion.
Kenny Cook La La Land is bad because it lacks interesting characters, good plot and good perfomances. Overall that movie was a big let down and exactly for being suppose to be a homenage to the classics such as Singing in the Rain, it ended up being just a copy and pasta and pretty forgettable on its own.
La La Land isn't Oscar worthy, but it's honestly one of my favorite films I've seen from this decade so far (Oct. 2018). It's just filled with so many memorable songs and visuals my brain ignores everything a bit wrong with it.

La La Land isn't Oscar worthy, but it's honestly one of my favorite films I've seen from this decade so far (Oct. 2018). It's just filled with so many memorable songs and visuals my brain ignores everything a bit wrong with it.
