2024 Acura ZDX | Acura's First EV Is A Boldly Styled 500HP SUV/Wagon

- What's the new ZDX like? Well, it's kind of like an SUV meets station wagon that's half Acura and half Cadillac. Fortunately it seems to get the best of both worlds.

Do not buy it in black. People will be DYING to go for a ride.
GOAT comment
Could someone explain this reference?
@@faeinthebay it would look like a hearse in all black. Therefore dead people would be riding in it.
😂😂😂
@@faeinthebay you may be confused by the comment because regardless of customer’s paint choice, the top of the ZDX always come in “Hearse Black” so folks are dying to get into one regardless of the color. Even in red it somehow looks funeral Friday ready.
Honda interior, GM platform, Acura badging, and German sticker pricing.
This is like the automotive equivalent of a platypus. 😂

Hilarious
Hmmm, nice from most angles but that silver strip sloping down to the rear makes it look like a hearse
Yes!! I was just about to make that comment. That’s actually a deal breaker for me. It would drive me nuts.
the blazer looks like a to me too😅... so im not surprised this looks hearse-ish too 😂
Now I can't un see it
Exactly my first thought seeing the side profile! They should never have moved that silver accent strip downward.
Yes! I can't believe nobody at Acura stopped this design for that reason.
This car leads all others.... in a funeral procession.
LOL.. Yea that chrome trim made it look like a hearse
Dealers will have this thing leasing at $350 per month by Thanksgiving once they realize they aren't moving.
Lyriq's were $399 with $3k down.
Honda/ Acura are betting on customers not knowing it’s a GM product and just hoping they go to the lot, see the electric Honda
/ Acura, and boom buy it
No that’s not it. It’s actually a business strategy to get an ev on the market. Opportunity cost/ weigh options make any sense. Multimillion dollar companies just don’t hope their consumer doesn’t know something that’s already known.
There's actually a video where Acura/Honda engineers are doing their best to promote the Honda attributes and downplaying the GM parts. As a Honda/Acura buyer, I'll wait a few years for the dedicated Honda version.
Same. I have a 2016 RDX I got new. Still a great car. Would love an EV that has similar features and build quality and size. So an EV RDX. If Honda doesn’t do it I suppose I’ll have to look elsewhere.
@@MidnightAspecI don’t care it just showing no more Honda / Acura soul anymore

Looks like a hearse behind the c-pillar
I came here to say this 😂
that black roof aint doing it any favors. Rest of the car looks nice.
The side view is just odd. Definitely reminds me of a hearse as well. And that light color trim along the bottom looks cheap on that red paint
I was one of the millwrights that built/retooled spring hill and davos for EVs. Crazy to see everything come full circle
Yes, build in Tennessee!
Crowdfunding to buy Alex a bottle of hand moisturizer for his videos 😂😂
Since this is a sister to the Cadillac Lyriq, and will offer the same power,
why pay an extra $8k over the AWD Lyriq, which runs in the mid-$60k range?
This needs to stay under $70k to move
Lyriq can get into upper 70k range
Love the wagon proportions 😍
Man, I am going to have to study this car for a month to try and find a redeeming quality. I am sure it has one and I am committed to finding it!
When you find it, please point it out using your pointing stick ! 😀
Yep, a large EV with 22" non-aero wheels (needed to cover those ridiculously-oversized brakes), huge expensive summer tires, long hood with no frunk, adaptive air with the big air tank where storage should be, etc. This car was designed for those who just want to show off to their friends (and their friends just think they are morons). Of course, with this funereal-like vehicle, you could pick up some extra spending money moonlighting as a resurrectionist.
I dont think its that hard. It looks good and will likely be very quiet and handle well.
@@omelborpon3159are any lux EVs about something other than flexing on others to show how much green you spent to be green? Luxury vehicles are never about value or practicality as top priorities.
OMG it’s gorgeous….I love the gray rocker panels…never seen that before.
Definitely getting station wagon vibes from the RDX. 😊 The inclusion of Cadillac’s SuperCruise was a surprise 😮
Take the ZDX over the Model Y or the Genesis GV70? Absolutely yes! The air suspension option alone puts the ZDX a full notch above both. Not knowing how the air suspension dampers the ride (or doesn't) and how far it can (or can't) travel up and down doesn't take away anything from those who want an air suspension period. Both the GV70 and Model Y don't offer an air suspension at all even at this price point which is, for a buyer, completely a deal breaker in my opinion.
Physical controls, manual air vents, HUD plus instrument cluster, Android Auto, and a normal driving experience overall are all huge pluses in my book.
Looking forwarding to the drive section review and especially more details on the ride and air suspension for the ZDX.
Does the knowwledge that this is a one and done model developed by GM take anything away from this piece of crap?? A former 2-time EV owner that now knows better.
Love the video Alex, amazing as always! I may make a note though if it’s ok.
The camera color could use a bit more vibrancy. Colors seem a bit washed out
Some of the competition that don't qualify for the tax credit are giving you $7500 cash off anyway just to remain competitive. Also, it's assembled at GM's Spring Hill Tennessee plant along withe the Cadillac Lyric. The Chevrolet Blazer and the Honda Prologue are assembled at GM's Ramos Arizpe Mexico plant. I'm sure Honda/Acura had lots of inputs into interior materials and the required front end exterior design to give the brands their respective 'look', but 95% of all the hard design points are shared between the four vehicles. IMO, all four vehicles look good.
Which is hugely better as the credit is just a non-refundable tax credit, meaning you have to owe taxes to get it, whereas 7500 off the price is cash in your pocket the same day.
Yeah, a lot of us make that kind of money.
Some people can’t use the credit because their income is too high
That’s not a smart business move by those manufacturers, unless they plan on qualifying soon and this is a small temporary costs to remain competitive. Too much of that will bite them in the butt in the long run. They’re working backwards.
@@ryanyoder7573 well those ppl wouldn’t need the credit if they have the cash, would they? There is no logic behind the government handing money to wealthy people when there are poor people in the same nation needing that same government’s help.
I really like the look. Very cool. I don't understand the odd comments here saying it looks like a hearse. I don't see any resemblance of that. Looks like a California styled sporty wagon.
It is simply the silver strip behind the C pillar. I like the lines but still see the hearse resemblance.

Is that made by general motors as well like the prologue?
I think most Acura buyers would prefer the MDX.
Clearly the loyal Honda engineers assigned to this GM product by middle management wanted it to be their hearse.
It would be interesting to compare the 4 or 5 models from Cadillac, Chevy, Honda & Acura, others? And do a price to features comparison so see where the value is.
The chrome accent strip gives it the 2024 Hearse look!

Very tasteful styling. I don't see the hearse angle, exactly, but am dying to drive one.
I like this quite a lot but I think I'd prefer to wait for Honda to get their own EVs on sale. They are investing billions of dollars to rework their factories in Ohio to add EV production, and several new facilities in Ontario also dedicated to EVs and related parts.
I know Honda has the Prologue, but isn't that ALSO a GM shared platform?

First of all you probably wont see a Honda only EV for another 2 years and when you do I would not bank on it being better than whatever GM is offering at that time since GM is way ahead on EV investment/development. Its funny that Honda is behind now but people are saying they will wait 2-3 years for a "better" Honda EV when currently there is no track record of Honda in the EV space.
I am in the market to get EV. I already have Acura MDX for long trips, so not planning to use new one for long trips. I also have reservation for ZDX. Now i am thinking whether it is good decision to buy this one over Tesla model Y. I dont like build quality of Tesla. But there is 20K price difference between Model Y and ZDX A spec which is lot for a car to use only within city. Also worried about GM quality as i am hearing lot of software issue about Lyriq which is identical to ZDX.
Any suggestions to help me to choose between ZDX RWD vs Model Y?
@Alex
Wow that why this channel never fails me! So quick and my fav Acura brand d
You think this is an Acura? Do some research first.
@@ScubaSteveCanada Wow Sensitive! I just spoke of Acura as “brand”. Styling and quality is Acura ! That means they will stand behind their warranty and customer service in dealers. Reliability as well
Beautiful. Definitely form over function here.
Looking purely at the side profile, I'm half surprised Subaru didn't get in on the platform sharing party to make an electric Outback...
Just had the Tesla S FSD me over to the Acrura Dealer here in Fremont to check out the ZDX. Sales Manager and I took the ZDX around the parking lot as I needed to get the S demo back to the Tesla Factory. I'm back at Fremont Acura and the Sales Manager has given me the key and a license plate and I'm getting ready to take it out for a spin after watching your review. Great review by the way.
yes, I would definitely buy this over ANY Tesla... but they should have put a wagon-like window behind the "C" pillar instead of making it black with a hearse-like chrome line going through that back area...
YES!! Amber turn indicators!! Yay!!
look at that phone screen mounted on the dash, it was huge compare to iphone 15, great job Honda
Wow! Designers knocked it out of the park. Love the color combo and would like to see it with the red interior. Packaging is partly a miss, but not a deal killer. Opening Sun/Moon roof is a plus over the Tesla. I imagine it drives like a Lyriq unless it has a different suspension tune(?). Pricing seems little different than the ICE version.
Appreciate the flow of your reviews.
Is this the first all electric hearse?
Looks great! 🔥
I liked this a lot ... then the Rivian R2 concept came out. Now I want the R2 as my first electric vehicle.
I'm just glad that there are more 'wagon-adjacent' offerings coming out. Granted, it would look more like a wagon if the rear overhand was a bit longer. I'd be curious to know how this compares to the upcoming Toyota Crown Signia once they both are in production...
What's with all of the leaks underneath, especially on the left hand side? Just fast forward until you can see the left hand side.
Time to tighten things up.
Does it come with moose knuckle enhancing pants?
Jesus, that finish in the air compressor compartment is atrocious! I really hope it's going to be much better in production cars.
That chrome line in the back side make it look like a funeral car...
Hey Alex not sure how long you've been doing it, but I like this newer format where the camera walks around with you! It must be tougher talking in one take.
Thanks! Yes, it's a bit harder to do since I don't always have someone with me to help, but we're trying some shorter format quick looks like this.
I was coming here to say it look like a hearse from the side haha, but someone won the race and said it for me 😁
I LIKE THE LOOK!
Absolutely beautiful vehicle. EV makers need to understand that frunks are a big deal. Honda / Acura should have waited on producing something like this until they were able to do it ground up. They should have focused on the CRV and passport making them full electric or better plug-in hybrids. Nice review 🤙🏾
Very glad about the non China battery sourcing, even if I’m not interested in vehicles such as this.
The Chinese batteries are better though.
@@sv6k0a39 I’d be more than willing to sacrifice any difference in performance in exchange for responsible (humane) sourcing.
The motors are made in china.

Are you in San Diego or Santa Barbara?
So do we take it to a GM workshop or Acura when sxxt starts falling apart?
Kinda like can I take the new Dodge Hornet to an Alfa Romeo shop and could I take an Alfa romeo to a dodge garage?
Take this honk of metal to Acura. Let them deal with this horrible software and body panels. Even the Chevrolet Blazer seems to be a step above this in several areas.
It looks great, I'am certain it drives great too.
Wagons still exist? 😱😱
I prefer them to sedans and SUV; utility well packaged. The despise of wagons in America makes them an attractive hidden gem.
My first thought was that it's not a wagon, it's a CUV or SUV. However, it's only 3.5 inches taller than a 1995 Chevrolet Caprice Wagon.
That‘s an suv not a wagon. Station wagons are far cooler and more fun to drive
OMG...2024 and look at that infotainment center. Looks like one pulled off of a 2018 Odyssey.
It always surprises me that Alex, of all people, calls the HUD a "heads up display" instead of the proper "head up display". Love everything else about these videos though!
You mentioned this is built on a GM platform. Is the interior furnished with Acura parts, or is the interior the same as GM hiding behind Acura badging? I did note it has both CarPlay and Android Auto, which GM versions don’t.
Yes they do.
the lyriq does have carplay for now, but its likely going away in the future. A quick bit of research will show the interiors of Blazer, Lyriq and ZDX. The stalks are the same amongst all three. The ZDX shares HVAC controls with some GM vehicles, but not Lyriq
Is the car leaking from the right passenger side?
Honda just announced an EV and battery plant for Alliston, Ontario, Canada
For hybrids.
It’s a battery plant and EV production as per the reporting. Likely some hybrid production too though.
The interior looks previous generation and the fact that it's a brand new EV and isn't offering the fastest charging speeds available simply blows my mind. That's one place I want my EV to be cutting edge. I do like the exterior styling but that's about it.
I'm guessing that most people that are getting one of these has a garage to park it in at home and they will charge it there. It's kinda nice having garage space for things like that.
It’s actually a Chevrolet
Do you understand that it takes 3 years to develop a new car and newer models are always coming out so even if your car is the best when you buy it there is high probability it wont be state of the art in 1 year, especially in the EV space. This is not a phone, its a car and people keep them far longer and anyone who gets one has to accept that there brand new car wont be the best in class for more than a year or two if they are lucky.
@@wrzl1675a cadillac, you can say the Chevy is a cadillac since the Lyriq came first

So, it's just a GM with an Acura badge.
yeah except for the fact that Acura styled it, provided the options and features details and the seats. So if you call that a GM car with acura badge than sure. This car has 18 speak B&O sound system which no GM car has. Also has sport seats with 16 way adjustment which GM cars dont have. It also looks like no GM car on the outside
I actually think it’s a really good looking vehicle and I’m not a fan at all of EV’s. But I have to say Acura did a great job with the overall styling and proportions.
Show those air vent features in detail
Funeral homes would love to get their hands on these vehicles. Taps would be a perfect song for the new ZDX
If the silver trim was not at the bottom, and the front grille was black and angeled upward the vehicle would look much better.
Wait 8-12 months, dealerships will have it for $20k off MSRP new then you add the $7500 tax credit instantly. Buying it at release would be flushing tens of thousands for no reason
Your wrong about the Lyriq not having CarPlay and android auto.
The prologue looks much better imo
The two tone color scheme adds to the hearse likeness
Fix the "hearse" trim and this is a nice looking vehicle
Anyone seen it in person?
As an orignal ZDX owner im appalled they reincarnated the name for this thing. The ZDX was the original X6 rival with it's sloping roof, futuristic looks, and amazing interior quality.
Its a four row suv?
3:33 - sorry Alex but "NO FRUNK FOR YOU...!!!"
If I had the money, I'd go Acura
Wonder how many will buy an S model and slide off the road in winter because why put summer performance tires in a heavy BEV.
I really wish Acura would have taken the resources and time to hybridize their line up instead of giving us this EV junk. Id take a hybrid RDX or MDX over this any day.
This guys has the biggest ball package on the Car Review set😂😂😂
Mazda's interior is surprisingly a lot more luxurious
Hate the detached screens. Needs one long one like the Lyriq. When they are split like this, reminds me of a “rushed job,” and that no one in production, or assembly were actually thinking.
All I can see in the rear quarter is a small coffin space.
They are building their dedicated EV factory in Canada, it is official folks
WHat does that have to do with this vehicle? People who want to own an EV in the next 3 years cant really do much with that information. And when their stuff does come out its only going to put them in the game, its not like they will be leapfrogging GM/Hyundai/Ford
@@shethjones4494 no one is leapfrogging anyone. Tesla used to be a generation ahead of everyone with the model S and X. Shortly after the Y came out others have closed the gap considerably and it will likely be surpassed within the next 6-12months. Honda's new plant will obviously set a minimum goal to be better than shared gm platform cars they are using. Will it be an order of magnitude better, no way it will be a few percent better here and there
@@JD-yx7be You can bet most of those batteries will be used for hybrids. As for EVs, by that time EVs may have already caused companies to go out of business. There has to be a business case to support their EV production as both Ford and GM found out, regardless of the Federal mandates (which they already back-pedaled on).
Beautiful exterior design, wide stance and finally the right size wheels & tires...However the dash looks very last generational and general motors like, which is not a compliment.
Because Honda dashboards are known for being super luxurious?? Ok
i think its ironic that while some people are saying its pointless to buy this when you can get a Tesla (with a plain interior) others are criticizing this for being too plain- its still got more interior style than a tesla

There's no frunk on that hearse?
Great
As a European I always liked Acura. This genuinely looks good and I'm not into new cars. Well done Acura
It's a GM product with Acura updates. Not well done and only done to meet compliance regulations in the U.S. Do some research.
I’ve never seen someone so obsessed with an EV having a front trunk. Great video otherwise, I’d love to see a comparison with its platform-mates Prologue & LYRIQ
ive seen reviews where they say automakers claim people rarely use them- I mean the concept it neat but honestly if I have enough interior cargo room its not really required or all that helpful. Ford has pics of the frunk as a cooler- nice idea but I would never use it
I like it but those charging times are terrible. Acura site says 42 minutes 20-80%, usually stated as 10-80% so that will likely take longer. That makes no sense as the Lyriq charges faster I think?
this may not have the 190kw DC fast charging capability
The charging curve is what matters most. The battery preconditioning for cooler weather is extremely important too. Lease one but don't buy one.
And _like_ the Lyriq, dumb front fender mounted charging port.
Side profile looks like a hearse. Wassup with that?😂
Front and side looks nice. That’s where it stops.
Interior looks like any $30k Japanese car interior.
A 30,000 dollar car in 1980 ?
Interior is a joke compared to a Lyriq. Acura must’ve thought adding air suspension to a platform that doesn’t need it means they can jack the prices up over a Prologue and call it a luxury SUV. Smh 🤦🏽♂️
What’s with so many people wanting to make this flop a *gm* issue? Uhhh too many folks aren’t paying attention here to what’s going on.
Honda, much like Toyota, went the cheap route by piggybacking off of *gm’s* investments into electrification and phoned in the design of their first fully electric vehicles. *gm* saved their butts with models like the Prologue because Honda didn’t have to do much of anything to it in order for it to be a great car. The luxury segment is a bit different and this vehicle truly exposes Acura’s weak effortless attempt to make this a luxury SUV. *gm* handed them the tools they needed for a winner and they fumbled the ball. Now I see why Honda backed out of the deal last minute, they probably thought they could do what Toyota does which is ride the brand perception wave and come out on top but it’s not looking too good for them right now.
Too much conjecture here. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid. Fact: Toyota is doing just fine and is predicted to be in a healthier position in the long run. I think they know what they’re doing.
@@havok3344 this is not about Toyota. Just say you’re a Toyota fanboy and leave it there. Your feelings are the ones that are getting in the way. As far as EVs go, no Toyota is not in a good place. If you’re talking about hybrids, maybe. Unfortunately for Toyota we’re talking about EVs and like the rest of the Japanese, they are dropping the ball and falling behind. They would have to pull a Honda and build their EVs off someone else’s great EV platform because they just haven’t invested enough into the tech themselves.
Honda is opening a new ev factory in Canada to make their own evs. Toyota is also building new battery factories with the Highlander EV being the first model from it. The Chevy Bolt was mostly an LG auto not a GM vehicle but gm eventually made their own ev platforms
Reminds me of a Ford Flex.
Needs a Landau roof to complete the look and it will fit in perfectly at the front of a funeral procession… I’m afraid the ZDX nameplate will die a second death 😔
Huh? Did you overlook Corsair Grand Touring for Fed tax credit? Or just full EV tax credit?
That's not an EV so It's not in the same segment. There are also others that will get the credit. EX90 may get it (we don't know yet) by the end of the first full year in production, there's the new Optiq from Caddy, etc. I wasn't making an exhaustive list here.
I can’t with the exterior. Like others are saying literally looks like a hearse. The silver bottom trim is excessive also. It’s a fail for me. The air tank for the suspension looks slapped in there also.
That’s because it is slapped in by Honda. The *gm* products don’t have that canister because they don’t use air suspension, neither do they need it for class leading ride quality. I’m not sure what Acura is trying to do here, appear to be more premium although this actually is not?
All going lady shaver....
It’s Acura’s version of the Cadillac Lyriq.
10:08 that’s what she said. 😂
The crazy part about thr 7500 tax credit is that thr manufacturers just raise the MSRP by 7500 :)
Many EVs don't make a profit so that $7500 goes a long way.
@@JD-yx7be Are you justifying increasing the MSRP by $7500? If you can't make a profit, your stock holders will have a say! And, it won't be good. Why do you think both Ford and GM backed off on EV production?
