A lot of folks saying it’s overpriced, but I don’t know - if it drives well, seems like it could be the modern take on the Jaguar I-PACE, and that thing is phenomenal! We have a Jaguar I-PACE EV as our daily driver. This replaced our 970 Panamera Turbo (both of which we bought used btw), a car that most ICE fans would probably agree is a pretty good daily driver in its own right. And I can honestly say the Jag is better in every single way. I don’t miss the Panamera one bit, neither does the wife. With the Jag, there’s no automatic transmission to get confused around town, never getting into a hot or cold car with preconditioning, there’s insane instant torque, the smoothness and refinement is unmatched (not only because no engine noise but also because the 1000 pound battery insulates you from road noise), the use of space is excellent (small on the outside and big on the inside because no engine), low center of gravity, naturally perfect weight distribution, being able to blow by anyone in traffic anytime, never being in the wrong gear, way more efficient, never being late because I had to stop for gas, no maintenance, quicker than most v8 family cars and more efficient than i-4 family cars, etc etc. And even though on paper the panamera was faster 0-60, in real life around town it’s not even close - the Jag would be gone before the panamera would even get into the right gear. Yes, it can be annoying on road trips - but it's not the end of the world unless you road trip all the time. It's the better car 364 days of the year, and the worse car 1 day of the year. Having said all of that, like I said I'm an enthusiast, and we also have two sports cars (manual transmission c7 corvette stingray and an R56 Mini Cooper JCW, both of which I frequently use for road rallys and autocross), and I have no desire for either of those to be electric. I know there is a Boxster EV coming soon and I’m sure it’ll be great and smoke my c7 around any racetrack, but I have no interest at all, even as a current EV owner. Sports cars should be gas powered and manual IMO. So as I said, each has their purpose. I don’t see myself ever going back to gas for daily driver, and I don’t see myself ever going EV for sports cars. My point is simple: EVs are better at some things, and gas cars are better at some things. "Taking a side" doesn't make sense, even for enthusiasts. Just acknowledge what the other is better at. I like my I-Pace too, for the same reasons you mention. Had it since 2019, so now I'm out of warranty and I'm shopping again. My short list is this ZDX, the Genesis G70, and the Lyriq, for a three year lease.
I think from the outside it looks amazing; the rear wind is a little bit generic looking, kinda reminds me of an ILX, but it’s not bad. I don’t think the interior looks all that premium tho. That’s where the GM parts show imo. The GV70, GV60 and RZ all do the interior look better for a luxury brand in my opinion

Lease prices for the ZDX, Lexus RZ, electrified GV70 and Lyriq vary much more than their MSRPs would suggest. The Lyriq lease prices are very high; the ZDX much less. The RZ is even less with $18,500 discounts on some models. And Genesis is advertizing $499 per month on a base electrified GV70, but no dealer I can find supports this price (they all show $0000 in the lease window, suggeasting you have to ask a salesman. Makes me worry that Genesis dealers are just Hyundai dealers. You can get massage seats on the Lyriq and GV70, not the RZ or ZDX. More important, SuperCruise is just on the high end Cadillacs and Type S ZDX, but makes the biggest difference for medium to long trips. Hard to pick a best value, a lot depends on how you use the car.
That large bezel on the left of the infotainment screen is bothersome. Volume knob placement looks like an afterthought. However, this is a good start for Honda/Acura for the NA market.
So I compared the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N ($66k) to Acura A-Spec AWD ($68k). Acura A-spec has 304 range and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N has 221 range. Which one would you buy?

The “hearse” bit in the side rear is unfortunate. Perhaps a cultural reference Honda designers were missing. I think the Cadillac version looks nicer inside and out. I like the more normal controls and the specs are good.

Yes, that asymmetrical lower grille is really stupid, and the hearse vibe from the side view makes it looks worse than a hearse. Too many unnecessary and even useless complications. Far from a clean and elegant design. Thanks Honda/GM for making very easy to hate.
I rode in a ZDX yesterday and it us 15 db noiser at 60 Hz than my new MDX at 60 mph, The mdx has the same noise level at 50, 60 or 70 mph, Where the ZDX increases with with the speed becoming noisier, I was really impressed with the ride quality being as good as MDX with Michelin Tires on both models. , The ride of a model Y is really unacceptable for me. I live in West Texas where its over 350 miles to any where and most of the time close to 700 to larger cities. So having a gas powered MDX being able to drive at 85 mph with one fuel stop is the way to go for me.
I am exactly like Alex when it comes to long road trips. I once drove from central jersey all the way to Detroit with one 15 minute break (to pee and refuel)
The exterior is kinda hateable IMO ("hearse vibe" side profile, the grille setup and everything, goofy ..) . The interior looks good though. Very Good: ° Separate driver's display with good size and features/layout, ° Shifter stalk, ° Lights/wipers control stalk, ° Large center/infotainment display, ° Physical knobs & buttons for climate control, ° General dashboard layout, ° Center console/storage layout Tesla's interior is rather too "tidy", this one is relatively balanced and functional
Leave it to Acura to come extremely late to the EV party, and produce a meh vehicle launch But hey, when they launched in 1986, their first vehicles were meh It took them 5 years to get to the NSX, and then it's been meh ever since The new Integra Type S is legit
20 years from now when people look back on this era as like the new 1970s, I wonder if people will say this car specifically acted like it's era. That's probably a correct choice if it does.
Worst element of the design is that jarring and way too big screen in the center of the dash. I don't need all the ridiculous settings and good easily make do with a screen that was designed in and smaller.
I mean it’s not as offensive as what Toyota did to Supra. For a commodity EV I’m okay with badge engineering with another company but why would i buy this over a Chevy Blazer EV, Cadillac Lyriq or Mercedes EQE SUV?
An Acura or Honda based on a 2-letter corporation base is a lease-only. 2-LTR corporation has a reputation for poor long-term focus. “Support” is under contract, but improving flaws found ? Not likely unless it’s a forced recall; so no 5+ year vehicle purchase from something underpinned by them ….
deprecation for EVs will still be high for at least a few more years. It also depends on local gas or electric rates. I would bet a 3 year old acura ev will be $5-10k cheaper than the Lexus so a better second hand car
I like it, but GV70 for me, the interior design and material quality are standouts in the segment; my daily commute is 60 miles at most. The 2025 GV70 interior updates with additional ambient lighting and the 27" OLED screen make it even more compelling. Also, every GM vehicle going forward is dead to me. I will not purchase a vehicle without phone projection.
@naveenthemachine I can agree on the surface, I just hope GM is past the initial production and software issues with the Ultium platform. I actually had a Lyriq reserved since July 2022 (still think the exterior is gorgeous). I canceled this past January because my car still hadn't been manufactured. I couldn't wait any longer as the EV lease deals were insane on 2023 vehicles, and I needed a car post haste.

YES, the chrome down slope definitely gives hearse vibes! But hearses are not bad looking. I like the styling of the ZDX much more than the Lyric. All-in-all, I think this is a winner, minus the pricing. I just wish the future Honda/Acura EV continues the models even if their relationship with GM is souring.
Is this even an SUV? I'd say it's a midsized wagon. They're just calling this an SUV so that they can try to sell it, just like Subaru does with the Outback.

So having a gas powered MDX being able to drive at 85 mph with one fuel stop is the way to go for me.
Hmm, I prefer the Lyriq. Purely on styling. I'm an Android guy, so the native Google Automotive interface is just fine for me.
They each have a distinct flavor. -Travis
I am exactly like Alex when it comes to long road trips. I once drove from central jersey all the way to Detroit with one 15 minute break (to pee and refuel)
OHHMGG I’m soooooo glad I wasn’t the only one who thought it looked a bit HERTZY on the c pillars on the sides. i feel heard now. lol
The exterior is kinda hateable IMO ("hearse vibe" side profile, the grille setup and everything, goofy ..) .
The interior looks good though.
Very Good:
° Separate driver's display with good size and features/layout,
° Shifter stalk,
° Lights/wipers control stalk,
° Large center/infotainment display,
° Physical knobs & buttons for climate control,
° General dashboard layout,
° Center console/storage layout
Tesla's interior is rather too "tidy", this one is relatively balanced and functional
Olive + Lavender Farms! (also, nice review)
Leave it to Acura to come extremely late to the EV party, and produce a meh vehicle launch
But hey, when they launched in 1986, their first vehicles were meh
It took them 5 years to get to the NSX, and then it's been meh ever since
The new Integra Type S is legit
yup
20 years from now when people look back on this era as like the new 1970s, I wonder if people will say this car specifically acted like it's era. That's probably a correct choice if it does.
If it wasnt a chevy blazer. I would consider it.
4:12 The most disappointing rear opening depending on the apparent exterior width of the tailgate.
Worst element of the design is that jarring and way too big screen in the center of the dash. I don't need all the ridiculous settings and good easily make do with a screen that was designed in and smaller.

Before Alex even said it, I saw Hearse....
Apple Car Play / Android Auto please. I’ll pass on the Chevy’s that don’t have it. Good job Acura/Honda, listening to the consumer!
Nice, but I'd still get the Lyriq AWD. It seems to have better range and similar performance.
That passenger door to dash trim transition was painful to look at, is this production or pre-production? Great video!
This was an “early production” model
@@AAutoBuyersGuide That makes sense then.
The funeral house edition!
Please do a comparison video with the Cadillac Lyriq
it’s the same thing except the caddy is better
I mean it’s not as offensive as what Toyota did to Supra. For a commodity EV I’m okay with badge engineering with another company but why would i buy this over a Chevy Blazer EV, Cadillac Lyriq or Mercedes EQE SUV?
GV70 EV looks better
An Acura or Honda based on a 2-letter corporation base is a lease-only. 2-LTR corporation has a reputation for poor long-term focus. “Support” is under contract, but improving flaws found ? Not likely unless it’s a forced recall; so no 5+ year vehicle purchase from something underpinned by them ….
I call it a bad start.
Herse vibes = selling point ??
A strip of black electrical tape can fix the "Hearst vibes" of the rear panel accent strip.

What is True Cost to own? Compared to the phevs like RX 450h? Cost per mile? Cost per 3 years? Cost to 100k miles? Cost for 10 years of life?
deprecation for EVs will still be high for at least a few more years. It also depends on local gas or electric rates. I would bet a 3 year old acura ev will be $5-10k cheaper than the Lexus so a better second hand car
Lexus is far better.
@@codincoman9019 said literally nobody ever
It will take 5+ years to get an idea
If you can afford a $65,000 car, being concerned about an extra $1,000 in gas seems ironic
I like the gv70 too but this is one of the better executed EVs
@naveenthemachine I can agree on the surface, I just hope GM is past the initial production and software issues with the Ultium platform. I actually had a Lyriq reserved since July 2022 (still think the exterior is gorgeous). I canceled this past January because my car still hadn't been manufactured. I couldn't wait any longer as the EV lease deals were insane on 2023 vehicles, and I needed a car post haste.
Not the most powerful............Many others with FAR more power..........Not that it doesn't have enough............I rode in a new 200hp BZR and it had more power than I'll ever need.....Paul
If you didn't know your care was a GM, you will when you see at 9:24 GM Branded Glass on the pano roof. Everywhere else I seee Acura branded glass.
I'd be curious how many ZDX owners will ever find that branding. -Travis
weird funeral car design in the back
Yes, only going to buy CarPlay enabled cars.
You're not alone in that one. -Travis
Honda/Acura needs to build their own cars- any cross-brand relationships have not been up to Honda/Acura quality and reliability… think ZF 9 speed, Isuzu trooper and Rodeo…
They will be, a move like this helps keep their own designs from being too rushed. -Travis
@@AAutoBuyersGuidethey have the sony and nissan collab coming.
they have the sony and nissan collab coming as well
YES, the chrome down slope definitely gives hearse vibes! But hearses are not bad looking. I like the styling of the ZDX much more than the Lyric. All-in-all, I think this is a winner, minus the pricing. I just wish the future Honda/Acura EV continues the models even if their relationship with GM is souring.
An Acura SUV with questionable truck space, why even bother?🤷♀️🤷🤷♂️
Because trunk space isn't that important to everyone. -Travis
Is this even an SUV? I'd say it's a midsized wagon. They're just calling this an SUV so that they can try to sell it, just like Subaru does with the Outback.
why is this in his ICE channel?
Honda Prologue in Acura trim
Nice to see that almost all manufacturers now offer at least one EV in their lineup.
Not nice to see that almost all manufacturers (less the best ones) put hundreds of billions in the BEV scam.
Those are/will be into a big financial trouble, even Tesla.
It's good to have options. -Travis
But not all manufacturers offer competitive EVs.
@@codincoman9019, not sure why the negativity for BEVs. Do you prefer the deadly fumes coming out of ICEs? Look at the completely unhealthy smog that envelopes some large cities thanks to these emissions.

Acura’s first EV is a Chevy
Chevy-ish. -Travis
Complete GM made POS. This is the beginning of the end of Honda.
Thanks so much, Alex. Another well produced review that hits all the important points. I truly appreciate the work you've done - you've helped my choose my last 3 cars! Today, you helped me solidify my choice to order a GV70 Electrified. Cheers :)
Thanks for watching, glad we can help. -Travis
Lyriq or ZDX?
Bro, no one puts a tablet computer in the glove box. I don't know why you keep saying that. ;-)
just to give a size reference
Same reason Raiti uses Twinkies to measure capacity.
@@Jaymac933and big gulps and bags Doritos and monster burritos or whatever pops in his head when he gets overly excited 🤣
Oh look it’s a Cadillac Lyriq
That’s a good thing. Drive one.
6:15 - where everyone goes to thr next video. Listen, why even MAKE an EV of you're that far behind? Work on the battery tech with mules on the side then release it when it'll sell! Sheesh!
I'm not in the market for an EV at this time, but this Acura would be at the top of my list due to its attractive appearance, well-designed interior, and Honda's reputation for reliability.
Honda's reputation for reliability doesn't apply to this vehicle, which is a GM platform
But if you are single and make more than $150k no dice on the tax credit.
"They" (Honda) didn't make it. It's a beta test....no way
I’m not even looking at GM’s EVs because they Lack CarPlay and AndroidAuto. Non starter.
If only it didn’t look like a hearse.
first thing I thought HURST.
I’m not in the market for an EV, but if so, I’d take this over a GV70.
This looks like a hearst! Lyriq for sure over this.
The gv70 and zdx are a toss up as far as Asian luxury evs go
I'm sure you won't be the only one. -Travis
@@naveenthemachine I can guess HMC won't be doing a CDX for NA...again. Looks like they would rather rachet prices on Honda small SUVs instead.
