I showed this to one of my clients, who is a music nut (as am I). He's an elderly gentleman with an acquired brain injury, but he and I talk music non-stop, every Tuesday. He was so moved by this performance that he started crying, then I started crying, and it was fucking beautiful. That's the power of music. It transcends race, religion, age, sex, injury, health, language, background. It brings different people together effortlessly.
The reason she can do this is coz this is her story too, she has also done the hard yards, fought the fight to perform, battled the establishment. This is definitely what you call a storytelling performance the lyrics were Eminem’s but the soul was Kasey & we are so proud of our Aussie sister
Her beef is with her management. She's won 14 Aussie type Grammy awards. 9 #1 country/ folk albums and still finds it hard if not impossible to tour other countries 😊
Its funny how the most dedicated Eminem fans that react to this are the most skeptical , and in the end they are the biggest fans . Shows just how good she did it . With that much emotion put into it how could anyone not like it.
A quote from Kasey referring to this song: “Eminem has been one of my favourite songwriters for many years. We listen to a lot of him in our house. I’ve been mostly influenced in my life by writers who bravely put fearless emotion into lyrics and no one does that better than Eminem. I don’t really care too much about what genre music fits into, just that the sound comes from a real, authentic place from inside the artist."
To be honest, when you said I'm ready , I laughed to myself and said, nop, you're not ready. Thank you so much I really enjoyed your reaction. Much respect .
There's only one thing as good as watching Kasey Chambers sing Lose Yourself for the first time and that's watching a true Eminem fan watching Kasey Chambers sing Lose Yourself for the first time. But you took it to a whole nother level. Fantastic!!
Thanks for your pure, spontaneous reaction. I've watched 150+ UA-camrs fall in love with Kasey and her epic brilliant, genius musical composition. It really is a re-imagined creation by Kasey and more emotionally profound. Her (and her band's) performance still gives me cascading tingly chills. All the best from Debbie in Australia. ✌☮🕯💙
Fun facts . That's her brother on guitar with the harmony and her dad on the slider guitar. This was professionally audio recorded but not visually. They put out an appeal on facebook for fans to send in any footage they had and this is the result. great reaction. And .. Em has seen it and given her rights to profit from it on spotify etc.
A few corrections - It IS her dad on slide. It is NOT her brother on guitar/harmonies it is her long time guitarist Brandon Dodd & Eminem did not give her rights to it as HE doesn't hold the copyright to ANY of his early music. The copyright to ALL his early work including "Lose Yourself" is held by the Bass brothers through their Eight Mile Style publishing company.
@Laraine3 Not a lap steel guitar, just a steel string guitar played lap style. If you want to see lap steel, check out Robert Randolph - he also plays lap style, but his main instrument is lap steel.
Ohhhh! Man! Snake, I have watched well over a 100 reactions to this & hands down 10000% yours is the freakin best!! Knowing you’re a mad Em fan I was so pumped when I saw this pop up, and was filled with anticipation & excitement to see what you would think & how you would react. I got even more goosebumps watching you “feel & appreciate” this mind blowing homage to the great Eminem!! I’ve even mentioned it a few times in comments on Ren reactions when I could see in your history you hadn’t reacted to it. Raw unadulterated Brilliance! I was totally blown away when I first “experienced” this Phenomenal performance, amazing arrangement & pure to the emotional interpretation of Em’s masterpiece - just legendary!! Em gave her his permission to release on Spotify, that says it all 👏👏👏 She is aged 46 at the time of this performance 2022. I’ve always been a fan of Kasey, she is a freakin amazing & talented musician, artist & woman (from Australia, youngest ever inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame). But this was next level genius & so personal for her. She has lived every second of this story. The performance wasn’t filmed, she put a post out after the show to fans present to please send in any footage, the compilation of which you see. The band killed it, matching & building with her energy brilliantly. Long time band member Brandon (I thought it was her brother but have since been corrected) on guitar & the vocals that nurtured the momentum & her dad on slide guitar making it sing like a phoenix - all of them together made this one of the all time best live, for me a rebirth, not a cover, that I’ve ever heard, seen & felt….to my core. I’m going to watch your reaction over & over - I had chills from my head to my toes with you. Thank you thank you for your fabulous reaction & respect shown to Kasey and for putting on your “hoodie” as approval & for standing up for her, I damn near cried 👏👏👏👏she worked on this arrangement over lockdown & is a huge Em fan herself & had always wanted to do this at some stage - it’s just the absolute best!!! A million thank you’s Snake - you’re the bomb my man 👏👏🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️
Loved reading every part of that! Happy to hear you enjoyed it so much! I appreciate Kaseys performance and all of your kind words. Thank you for being a part of the community and showing support always. Much love my friend! 🙏❤
@@snakevenomv Much love back at you mon ami, I’m super grateful to be part of your wonderful community & for you. Really was my all time fav reaction to this one ❤️
Em can't give his permission - he doesn't own the copyright. The Bass brothers hold copyrights to Lose Yourself & most of his early music through their publishing company Eight Mile Style.
I've watched so many Reactions to this and yours is by far the best I've ever seen! Heaps of people have "attempted" to sing along and failed, but you obviously know the song that well you easily picked up Kasey's cadence and matched it. Your excitement matched mine when I first heard it and I still get chills. Excellent Reaction! Thanks.
For me, this is the best cover of any song ever. LOL, at @4:00 you start to realise how serious this cover is; @4:30 you realise her cadence follows Em's cadence; @5:25 blown away by 'lifetime'; now you sit up and wait for what comes next; @5:52 you realise you are listening to a true fan who has made this song their own; @6:05 you sit back and start to enjoy the performance; What you were trying to say, @8:00 was that Kasey deconstructed Em's lyrics so that the 1st 2 verses, shows what she thought that Em was going through at that time, but the the 3rd verse shows that she had indeed lived that same life. Love your reaction, as only a true fan can. Lol, you are going to love this, the guy on the lap steel guitar was none other than Bill Chambers, her father who was 71 at the time.
Love this! The first half sounds like the sorrow of someone who knows they had 1 chance and they missed it. The second is like she somehow sees another chance and she knows she has to go for it with every ounce of her being. She literally left it all out there in this performance!
Please treasure your ability to truly feel the music to this degree! The reaction almost didn't need words as the expressions were saying plenty. But the words did help too! :)
Brother, that’s the only reaction out of the many (100?) I’ve checked out where each step of the way you were doing exactly what I was doing my first time seeing it. I mean, without the pausing. I was like, ok, alright, I dig it. Then ‘whoa’, I’m really digging this (goosebumps). Then it was ‘this is fucking crazy!’, and then ‘I’M FLOATING I’M JUMPING I’M CHOKED UP I’m SO HAPPY I’M SEEING THIS HOLY SHIT’!!!!! I think you paused at all the best spots and your commentary was crazy observant. Yours is the best reaction to this performance I’ve seen- you matched the rise in energy exactly as the song did! I cracked up when you mentioned Em’s build up to the climax as I knew what was coming and knew you’d mention hers vs his… awesome, man. Cheers
Love to hear that mate! It was a hell of a ride! Felt like reliving Ems version for the first time over again. Thanks for the kind words, cheers brotha 🍻
Putting the hood up. That's what great music is all about, no matter what genre/style. We all have our own version of "putting the hood up" whether it's internal or external expression. Great feel = great music.
I've seen quite a few reactions to this song and yours is one of if not the most heartfelt, genuine ones out there. The thing is, your reaction to it embodies the exact same emotion and understanding that makes it a great song in the first place, and also the inspiration Kasey was guided by when creating it. Pretty sure a couple of the other band members had a say as to the composition in this bc with repeated listens you hear how good all their parts are. Peace.
The guy on the lap slide? That's her Dad Bill Chambers! And the clip was put together from the footage that fans were asked to send in as there were no professional cameras there that night. How cool..
Phenomenal reaction! I love Kasey's spin on this song. Credit to Em's great lyricism. I enjoy seeing others feel this take as much as I did first time ❤
The amazingness of the song.... its all of our story... she slowed it down and gave m's words a new vehicle. This is great and your reaction is great, especially for a man who sees the original as a personal anthem. New sub here, cheers mate!
I've known Kasey's music for many years. I was never a real fan but liked her style, and her original music. I also know, and have watched her dad, Bill, perform at The Lion's Den in Far North QLD where I used to live. That bloke playing the slide, sitting down with hat, I'm pretty sure that's Bill. Anyway, I only heard this cover a little while ago and have watched a couple of reaction videos...But man, I had that same reaction to this song. Kasey absolutely killed it. And may I offer an opinion about why she sings with such passion? Her career and life have been a rollercoaster and the lyrics to this song really resonate with her. Just my thoughts. As Johnny Cash owned 'Hurt', Kasey has owned this song. If anyone has an inkling to hear another cover that completely changes the tone of the song, search for The Seabellies, and their cover of 'Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again' by The Angel. If you've never heard the original, maybe listen to that first.
I watch this video almost every night. After a long, stressful, exhausting day at work. For some reason, the mix of her hauntingly beautiful badass voice, along with the bands heavy perfection and your reaction not only relaxes me but techarges me to continue the next day. Thank you. Keep doing what you're doing. It makes a difference.
It was mobile phone footage. This was the first public performance. They had it recorded, the fans said it was special, so she asked for footage. Her big bro harmonised, her dad is on the steel guitar. He was in "the dead ringer band," when she was a kid, she and her bro joined after they grew up. She worked on this tribute, with the band during covid. She is a country singer songwriter, had some big crossover hits. The captain, not pretty enough, I Aint no Little girl.
THIS was the 17th & final show of the Behind The Barricades tour & Lose Yourself was the final encore song at every show. It was played for the 1st time at the Wildflower Festival in March 2022. It is NOT her brother Nash - it's her bands longtime guitarist Brandon Dodd. Kasey started performing with the Dead Ringer Band when she was 11 (not after she'd grown up.)
EM was so impressed with the cover he allowed KC to upload it to Spotify. BTW, KC was the first Australian singer to have both an album and single at nomber one. She was 46 when this was recorded. Her dad is on the slide guitar. (BTW, Folk song originated in the 19 century England by the working class who sang thier songs of life, in the mills etc, usually in pubs)
Kasey smashing on a banjo.. Brought up living in a bus, playing in her family band. Her bro is playing guitar and her Dad is playing slide guitar in this.. Grew up in some of the most Arid parts of South Australia, playing country gigs, and catching rabbits for dinner.. A 48 year old Mum with kids, with a 3 decade touring music career, that has lived every word..
Kasey was born in Mount Gambier (my hometown) in in 1976 to Diane and Bill of Dead Ringer band fame. I was priveledged to buy fish and chips from their shop in Southend on many occasions. The Dead Ringers were beloved of the country music scene in the South-East of SA and I was lucky enough to see them live on multiple occasions. That's her dad, Bill, on slide guitar in this video.
This was a final encore for Kasey's country music audience most of them wouldn't even know the song and she still gets a roaring standing ovation at the end!! Best cover I've ever seen! Great reaction Man. Jon from Aus
Actually - this was the 17th show in her Behind the Barricades tour & Lose Yourself was the final encore song at each venue - with social media being the way it is - everyone knew it was coming. The audience were also told it was going to be a live recording & to please keep their "enthusiasm" in check until it was finished
Our Kaset can rock out hard. Thats her Dad on the lap steel. She is well known for wringing every last drop out of that dish rag, often breaking down in tears after a song. Gotta love the girl.
I’ve been waiting for this! I thought you’d appreciate the artistry and her love of Em. The same raw passion in a totally different way. Best rewritten cover ever. We know you’re feelin it when you stand up!
Thanks for the great reaction, I've watched all of them on UA-cam and still can't get enough of this version, she's Brilliant and I'm really glad to know she Australian too.
I didn't know what I was seeing, not being a musician or related experience (I learned what happened from you experienced people), but when she took the pick off the neck of the banjo.... I knew something was fixing to happen. Love your reaction, sir.
Brother snake. I absolutely love seeing you appreciating this song. Someone who loves Kasey Chambers and who absolutely loves your reaction videos. We are proud to call her out. Own. She is a massive fan of Eminem. Love again from Perth Western Australia. Happy New Year Brother
Ms Kasey has been through the hard times and here she is with a smackdown version of a great song. Fabulous reaction!!!! Shivers chills goosebumps to the max
Eminem has seen it and gave Kasey permission to put it on Spotify, so safe to say he approves! Kasey takes it to a whole new level, I reckon watching American's reacting to this cover is a new national sport for Aussies but your reaction was one of the best I've watched!
I so thoroughly enjoyed watching you experience this for the first time. It was such a beautiful true experience of utter sensory overload. I could see it in your entire body and in your physical reactions the way you started crossing your arms and rubbing your tingly goosebumps and just the excitement of it all is so much fun to share. And people wonder if magic is real.
When everyone was getting angry and frustrated during lock down, Kasey was using her time writing the music and the arrangement for this. I know who gets the points for productive use of time.😊
Yes all the footage was recorded by audience members on their phones. They made a good audio recording and asked people to send any phone images they captured in and made a video out of it.
I've watched hundreds of reactions to Kasey's cover of this coz I love it so much. Your reaction was great. Yes we felt it with you. Yeah we love him here in Oz. The guy on the slide is her dad. It's a family band. x Aunty Linda x
Awesome reaction! You had no idea how much your day was going to change after watching this! People the world over have drawn inspiration from Em's song. After a tragic incident last year, I have drawn inspiration from Kasey's version. Everything from the lyrics, the musicians on stage, the phone footage and of course Kasey's heart wrenching voice, builds the drama and tells the story. All set in the mostly unseen stunning heritage listed Civic Theatre in Newcastle. G'day mate from Australia.
There’s musicians. Nick cave, radio head, kasey chambers, einstürzende Neubauten, ed kuepper, kat power. The musicians’ musicians. They’d all blow this song out of the water. This is exactly what I would expect to hear.
A little Aussie girl who began in the genre of country and western. She is AMAZING!!! A proud Australian here 🇦🇺 this is my favorite song ever currently.
I wish i could like this every time i watch it when im in one of my depressed states but need uplifting, and this is always on my goto feel-good reations....without looking like a stalker lmao.....@snakevenomv every time your excitement starts atlases picking up pick, it's like I'm watching my son xxx

Nice observation on the "cell 'phone" affect - that's exac5ly what it is. As i understand it, it wasn't recorded on camera, but when the sound guy was mixing it later, he realised it was something special, and miss Chambers sent out a request for anyone who'd recorded it on their 'phone to please send it to her - it's a collage of all those 'phone recordings. Personally, I think the result is freaking perfect!
I love your vibe bro, loving sittin' here with you. This song is an absolute masterpiece. I ain't ever heard a better cover, not even an equal. And I love plenty of covers. Like you said, usually it's taking your little vibe into a song but this having it move into your house.
Your reaction, in my opinion is right up there with Knox Hill, Stevie Knight, and Cliff Beats. They are the best in the business as far as i am concerned and you have just earned yourself another subscriber. Great breakdown brother.

That heart, pain, and soul really showed in this performance! Thanks for the recommendations adding them to the list!
That is bill on the slide guitar sitting down
I watch this video almost every night.
That is not Nash on guitar and harmonies. That is her long time guitarist Brandon Dodd.
This was also not her first performance of the song... I saw it more that 12 months before at the wildflower tour...
@@jayenichols5766 Wildflower festival was March 2022 - THIS was June 2022
THIS was the 17th & final show of the Behind The Barricades tour & Lose Yourself was the final encore song at every show. It was played for the 1st time at the Wildflower Festival in March 2022.
It is NOT her brother Nash - it's her bands longtime guitarist Brandon Dodd.
Kasey started performing with the Dead Ringer Band when she was 11 (not after she'd grown up.)
It wasn't the first public performance, it was the first time she recorded it 😊
EM was so impressed with the cover he allowed KC to upload it to Spotify. BTW, KC was the first Australian singer to have both an album and single at nomber one. She was 46 when this was recorded. Her dad is on the slide guitar. (BTW, Folk song originated in the 19 century England by the working class who sang thier songs of life, in the mills etc, usually in pubs)
He doesn't own the rights to the song so he had nothing to do with it going on spotify unfortunately.
Agreed! Thank you, much love mate!
Actually - this was the 17th show in her Behind the Barricades tour & Lose Yourself was the final encore song at each venue - with social media being the way it is - everyone knew it was coming.
The audience were also told it was going to be a live recording & to please keep their "enthusiasm" in check until it was finished
They knew the song, this was filmed in Newcastle
Our Kaset can rock out hard. Thats her Dad on the lap steel. She is well known for wringing every last drop out of that dish rag, often breaking down in tears after a song. Gotta love the girl.
That's soul! Love it!
I’ve been waiting for this! I thought you’d appreciate the artistry and her love of Em. The same raw passion in a totally different way. Best rewritten cover ever. We know you’re feelin it when you stand up!
Thank you! haha I loved the reimagination! 🙌🔥
Thanks for the great reaction, I've watched all of them on UA-cam and still can't get enough of this version, she's Brilliant and I'm really glad to know she Australian too.
Thank you! Australia has some beautiful soul!
Only seeing this today, but so happy to see my fav reactor cover this phenomenal performance by our girl Kasey and the lyrical poetry of Em ❤❤❤❤
Happy you found it! Much love my friend ❤
She understood the assignment ❤️🔥
🙌
October 2024. This is simply sublime. 66 years old am I. Australian. Sing it Kasey.
This song is hers now. It's a Johnny Cash "Hurt" moment.
First time I heard this I couldn’t stop playing it for months. Still listen every opportunity I get. So good!
Hell yeah! Also like the name, SOA fan?
I didn't know what I was seeing, not being a musician or related experience (I learned what happened from you experienced people), but when she took the pick off the neck of the banjo.... I knew something was fixing to happen. Love your reaction, sir.
Brother snake. I absolutely love seeing you appreciating this song. Someone who loves Kasey Chambers and who absolutely loves your reaction videos.
We are proud to call her out. Own.
She is a massive fan of Eminem.
Love again from Perth Western Australia. Happy New Year Brother
Much love my friend, thank you for being a part of the community!
Your reaction is priceless, love it, Kasey is amazing.
😊 thank you! Shes great!
Loved your reaction. Totally agree with everything you said. A brilliant interpretation and performance.
💯 Thank you!
The 3 best covers of all time...this one, falling in reverse, last resort and sound of silence by disturbed.
Ms Kasey has been through the hard times and here she is with a smackdown version of a great song.
Fabulous reaction!!!!
Shivers chills goosebumps to the max
💯❤🥶
Complete fire. Great reaction. Her song now.
🔥
Im glad you liked it champ she made it her own for sure.
Big time 🤘
Eminem has seen it and gave Kasey permission to put it on Spotify, so safe to say he approves! Kasey takes it to a whole new level, I reckon watching American's reacting to this cover is a new national sport for Aussies but your reaction was one of the best I've watched!
Thank you so much!
Thats so cool that Em liked it too!! 😊
Not true - comments section just repeating misinformation
Nope, he doesn't own the rights to it so he had nothing to do with it going on to spotify unfortunately.
Still get chills and i still tear up a little. Cant help it
❤
the whole band is rockin it!!
🙌💯
Can feel Kasey’s pain and torment throughout the performance.
Kasey really loved this song she sang the first two verses slower as they were in the third person, the third verse is in first person.
Pretty special happening hey. Go Casey. ❤ great response mate. Cheers from Australia.
Much love 🍻
When everyone was getting angry and frustrated during lock down, Kasey was using her time writing the music and the arrangement for this. I know who gets the points for productive use of time.😊
Fantastic reaction.. great reimagination of a brilliant song. Kasey put her all into this.
💯❤
Yes all the footage was recorded by audience members on their phones. They made a good audio recording and asked people to send any phone images they captured in and made a video out of it.
🙌
Love your reaction! It's wonderful to watch how you really felt her energy! Kasey Chambers did an amazing performance! What a great cover!
I've watched hundreds of reactions to Kasey's cover of this coz I love it so much. Your reaction was great. Yes we felt it with you. Yeah we love him here in Oz. The guy on the slide is her dad. It's a family band.

I'm an American,,bit I know the Civic Theater,,I've spent A LOT of time in Newcastle and lived briefly in Stockton Beach
Love to hear that! Thank you for being here! Much love mate
This reminds me of the soul of the song of storms
Great reaction! Love your comments! Kasey is a powerhouse!
Thank you!! 😁
I heard this for the first time today. Went straight to your channel, couldn't wait to hear your reaction!!!
There’s musicians. Nick cave, radio head, kasey chambers, einstürzende Neubauten, ed kuepper, kat power. The musicians’ musicians. They’d all blow this song out of the water.
This is exactly what I would expect to hear.
She's been allover this year, ❤❤❤ she's amazing.
🙌
This venue is quite small and in a small city Newcastle in NSW, Australia. I am so jealous of the lucky people in that room that night.
💯❤
What a phenomenal cover! Thank you for this wonderful reaction!
She took Em's song and extracted every emotion she could from the story he told. She showed us what the song was *really* about. Beautiful.
A little Aussie girl who began in the genre of country and western. She is AMAZING!!! A proud Australian here 🇦🇺 this is my favorite song ever currently.
Ive seen all the reactions to Kasey doing this song and yours handsdown is the best. Im subscribing cause you appreciate how talented Kasey is.

Loved your response, particularly being a huge eminem fan, you still gave it kudos for being a piece of art in its own right. Shit, she's good.
Absolutely! Thank you 👏❤

This is like the 3rd or 4 th time I’ve watched your reaction to this!!! Love to you from Lisa a lyme and autoimmune warrior who travels in same circles as you Renegades - My fave em song 🎶 of all time - Love your reaction best of all - 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
Agreed with you ...this is way more than a cover❤❤❤❤
Nice observation on the "cell 'phone" affect - that's exac5ly what it is.
As i understand it, it wasn't recorded on camera, but when the sound guy was mixing it later, he realised it was something special, and miss Chambers sent out a request for anyone who'd recorded it on their 'phone to please send it to her - it's a collage of all those 'phone recordings.
Personally, I think the result is freaking perfect!
She has a unique powerful voice and you can tell she is feeling it👌Enjoyed it
She made me feel it! 🙌❤
Aye much love my friend! Thank you!
