🏨 SEASHELL HARIS BEACH HOME: seashell-haris...
👕 DAVID’S BEEN HERE SHIRTS & MERCH: teespring.com/...
The eleventh day of my epic trip through Kerala continued after my awesome Theyyam experience. I headed out to have an Indian seafood breakfast at a fish market in Kannur, Kerala, India! Come along with me on my Kannur fish market tour!
My friends Roshan and Mr. Haris from Seashell Haris Beach Home and I started at a massive fish market, where we’d buy a fish We headed to where the fish are sold. Fish markets are always a flurry of activity and a huge spectacle. There’s so much to see, including some huge sailfish, kingfish, marlin, shrimp, and more.
Then, we saw where the butchers cut the bigger fish and sell them to hotels and restaurants. They even had stingray!
Next, we headed to the harbor, where the boats come in and people buy them in bulk. This market is directly on the beach and is mostly for locals and tourists. The fishermen auction off their catch to the men there, who then sell the fish for a profit again and again. Come here at 6:30 a.m. to see them auction off the fish to the mini vendors!
Before we left, we got some hot, creamy, and frothy chai and Mr. Haris peeled me a fresh, local, organic banana. It was so sweet and ripe!
Then, we went to go see the boats and casting nets before we stopped by a mussel vendor on our way back to the resort. They had never-ending mussels, and they were huge! Mr. Haris bought a few and then we went back to the resort to cook everything up!
Back at the resort, I met back up with Ebbin and watched Mr. Haris clean the fish and marinate it in chili powder, tamarind, turmeric, rice flour, and garlic. Then, he threw it in the hot coconut oil!
Along with the fish, Mr. Haris also made puttu. Then, the chef there made the mussel pepper fry with Kashmiri chilies, turmeric, ginger-garlic paste, and pepper. He fried it up in a big skillet and added curry leaves on top. Meanwhile, they placed the puttu on a leaf Mr. Haris cut decoratively.
At our table, we had a potato mash containing vegetables. The fish fry and mussels also arrived. We had a view of the ocean, where there were people fishing for mussels!
We started with a steamed rice dish containing coconut and jaggery. It was nice and sweet and felt like compacted rice. Then, we moved on to the potato mash with vegetables and chilies, appam, mussels, and fish fry. I squeezed some lemon over the fish, which didn’t have many bones.
The fish contained an amazing masala that wasn’t so spicy. It was so juicy and tender, but the rice flour gave it a nice crunch. I got a bit of sand in it, but it was good, especially with the lemon. The spice level was perfect!
My favorite was the mussels. They were unreal! I have to give a huge thanks to my friends at the Seashell Haris Beach Home for this amazing experience and Indian seafood breakfast feast in Kerala, India!

That uncle who cooked fish fry is soo sweet, he has such a pleasent smile and he is smiling all over the video.
Yah that's what I also found diffrent and nice I am sure no one carries a permanant smile in North india although I am a north india.....you know that smile comes from happiness because he is content with his life and world in which he lives😊👍👌
That's our Hariska
And that's how they stab u in the back lifting their lungi
That is the glory of mallus
Yes he is such a sweet person. He is so excited for the hospitality. I don't know where this place is. If someone can help me.
What an incredible fish market! This is a side of India so few International tourists experience or even know about. You're going to inspire a lot of people to head south to Kerala.
The stereotype India 🇮🇳 that you see in the west is heavily limited or influenced on North India 🇮🇳 whether is it the food, location or the monuments. Very few have explored down south or north east regions
Good thing about it is that it’s not that heavily commercialised thus you will still get the nuances of the local routes on the food, culture or even the attitude of the locals
Even if tourists go to kerala, most of them visit south of Kerala.
The real tasty food is in the north side of Kerala.
Especially kannur and Kozhikode.
Akhil A that’s debatable because it can be vary person to person
@@anoopkl4u that is very good point. I've yet to visit Kerala but I would love to do so soon.
@@anoopkl4u indeed. Which part of India do you think is most underrated overall? Not just for foreign tourists but for nationals as well?

it is Kerala food, but people from North Kerala aka Malabar are less in US, the exclusive and unique Malabar cuisine you will get from restaurants run by people from Malabar. After Kerala, you can see such restaurants mainly in middle eastern countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar,Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman..etc because 90% of Kerala expat population living in these countries,
ofcourse the food you tasted are part of Kerala cuisine. I think you had Dosa,Sadya... Apart from that Malabar special cuisine has tons of varieties mostly non veg and a lot of veg/non veg evening snacks.
@@mohammedfaris6377 Awesome man. Thanks for the feedback. I will see if I caj find more like it. Hope you continue to follow my page to see other great food videos this year!

Indian food is one of the best in the world because they traditionally use a lot of spices on their foods and make it so aromatic.
South Indian (especially Kerala) foods are spicy than other parts of India..
🙇
The smiling gentleman reminds me a lot of my high school principal Fr. Matthew, who incidentally was also from Kerala. A wonderful teacher and human being. God rest his soul.
Hey David, your videos are so good, that no one can skip a single second.

Now i know why my mom used to mention fish market, when me and my siblings used to make noise at home, as a north indian we are not fond of sea food so never been to any fish market.
😂
@Viinay9 i live in a city where south indians are more in numbers than the local population of that country, so there are thousands of kerala style restro near me, since i didn't eat seafood in my childhood its hard now to get used to the smell😊

That spiced fish looked really juicy good. By the way you passed the Arakkal Museum.
Namlude kannur 😍❤️👍
Funniest part when David interact with local guy behind him " hey hey no I'm good I'm good"
The irony is, TamilNadu and Kerala are two neighboring states, of India, and that if you were to be a Tamil man visiting Kerala, then the way in which you would be treated would be worse than the term, despicable. Don't believe me, then try it. Yet, I see here how, these Keralites are literally falling at this White man, David's feet, merely to show that their have not forgotten their Colonial masters. Good Job, Keralites, keep it going. You hate your neighbor, yet worship your Colonial masters. Shameful.
Lol shut up troll...

I am from India Kerala🌴 Kannur district fish market. thank you bro💞
This is near my house
Kannur is the most underated district in kerala due to its bad political history
Ps-tourist's hardly explore here ,all the travel agents promote just allappey and munnar ,i guarantee much better food and un explored scenes all along malabar
I was at Kannur on January.. Thalassery. Loved the delicacy of cannanore
Hi am sure none of the place can replace Munnar from Kerala tourist heritage
I am from assam tinsukia
oh man the feast looks super great! and miss eating with hands too! always keen to try the local Indian dishes!
You have to come kerala and experience the spicy foods, you will love it.
The sweet dish in the beginning looks very similar to Goan "patoleos".
Soaked rice ground into a paste and coconut and Jaggery filling. But we use turmeric leaves to steam it.
Even the rice crepes.
I think there are a lot of similarities between Goan, Maharashtrian, Manglorean and Kerala cuisine.
I want to visit Kerala after the lockdown!
I was thinking where Ebin was ...Enter Ebin @ 15.11 .The best food blogger in Southern India

1. Varkala and Kovalam cliff beaches. Also worth to visit Poovar, which near kovalam beach. You can take a ride by boat from lake to sea.Nice aerial view as both lake and sea close by.
2. Wayanad-Nice resorts and ever green land.
3. Vagamon hill station at middle of kerala.
4. Ponmudi(nice grass mountain) and meenmutty water falls- techies favourite places in trivandrum as of technopark. On the way is peppara dam, having nice view and less crowd vs other places.
5. Thenmala dam and palaruvi waterfall( water flow like milk) and these places known for its eco tourism.
All 4 and 5 places are comparitively close by, but have to spend 2-3 days at least if want to enjoy its beauty.
6. Allappey and kumarakom( both places famous for house boat ride).
7.Worlds biggest bird sculpture-Jatayu earth center and a historical place as well.
There are lot of places worth to visit and things also depends on climate( not in mansoon or in summer) to have nice experience.

We call it ‘Eeradye’ in South Canara region (Mangalore/Udupi). This delicacy is especially prepared and served here during the auspicious day of ‘Nagara Panchami’. We use Turmeric leaf to prepare this instead of Banana or Teak wood leaf which gives it a very unique texture and nice aroma.
