I have been a huge fan of this channel! I am so impressed by how respectful, non-prejudiced, and non-judgemental Mark Wiens is when it comes to exploring food from diverse cultures! I received my medical training in a med school in Mangalore and I had the opportunity to enjoy Mangalore seafood! So happy you guys came down to 'Narayana' and 'Machali' restaurants--our favorite sea food spots! The food is SO fresh and delicious! Thanks so much for covering Mangalore, Mark!
South Indian curry is a cuisine out of this world. I lived in Goa and traveled to other south Indian states and the coastal dishes you get really pushes the limits of how much you can eat. I'm originally from Mumbai and moved to Bangalore quite recently, it's after moving to Bangalore that I realised the world of traditional region-wise south Indian food. Mangalore is clearly a paradise for seafood lovers and I cannot wait to go visit these places.
Yes I don't understand why these amazing foods are not promoted outside of India. Here in Canada 90% of Indian food is Punjabi food only. Thats is only 2% of what India has to offer

Thanks for making mangalore famous. Every time when tourists visits India they go either delhi, mumbai, goa or Bangalore. But you made our mangaloreans pride thanks mark.
Hi Mark - I was in Mangalore, would have been great if I was lucky enough to meet you.. you are in the best place on earth for great food.. Mangaloreans are the best… I love this place
Back in 2000, when I was studying to be a doctor, Hotel Narayana was a major go-to place for us for seafood. You'd see businessmen and labourers sit side by side, having their meals and amazing fish fry. And the fish would be at such amazingly affordable rates. Happy to see Mark Weins here too ❤.
I am so hungry for those meals that I am in tears! WOW! I can only wish that I had the means to go enjoy the life you are leading. At least I can learn to cook some of these dishes.
@89. The satisfaction is on another level when eating with your hand because the sensation associated with touching food already sends signals to your brain to prepare it for digestion... you should try it sometime
As a Mangalorean, I couldn’t help but notice that all the fishes, crabs, quid and any seafood done in Machali is already precooked. They are just coating it with a chosen masala later, probably because of amount of customers they get. The GiriManja’s chefs are cooking every sea food fresh. I would recommend GiriManja’s based on this, if you don’t want to lose out on the natural juices coming out of fish, crab, squid etc., which you may lose if it is precooked.
Welcome to India Mark and Joel.. I personally feel that Mark is one of the best food reviewer on this planet. Please do let me know in case if you have any plans to visit Bangalore
