My ex boyfriend and I were pulled over while vacationing in Mexico when we did a u turn. The federales took our driver’s licenses and said we were going to be questioned at their jail… until I told my boyfriend to pay them off so we gave them 120 bucks and they let us go but I was definitely scared!!!

This is why Mexico is on the do not travel list right now. Gangs control too many areas in Mexico & many policemen are corrupt & gangs control some policemen. It’s very common for the police to make up a crime and then tell you if you pay them cash, they’ll let you go. And it doesn’t matter if you’re at a very nice resort, no one is off-limits, no one is safe.

I used to drive down to Baja California/Ensenada/Rosarito every few weeks. It's 30 min from my house. I haven't gone in 20 years. My boyfriend whose family had a house in Ensenada and who spoke fluent Spanish said "no way we're going there anymore." The last time he went to check on the house in Ensenada, the Sinaloa Cartel had literally moved into the house and taken it over. He had to just leave it to them. DO NOT DRIVE DOWN TO MEXICO PEOPLE.

This is absolutely true. I live 40 minutes south of Rosarito, and grew up coming here from the Southern California (1960s). My dad always had cash in the ashtray of the car to hand out to them on our way down, as it's a tradition for the police to pull you over for no reason and demand cash. The corruption is astounding and blatant. Local businesses and landlords pay off local police, to the point that they won't take reports, don't take crimes or health & safety laws seriously. There's no oversight, no investigations, no justice. The Federal authorities have been brought in many times to take over local magistrates for this reason, to no avail. I have no idea what can be done to fix it. Blessings to his truth and her heart.

Something similar happened when my boyfriend and I at the time were in a club in rosarito. One minuet we were having a good time next minuet he went missing after going to the bathroom. It was extremely unlike him to wander off. I panicked.
I ended up finding him in an alley way after frantically searching for him. He was lying face down in a gutter. Someone had drugged him and taken his wallet. Thank god they didn’t kill him.

They all have balaclavas on their faces. They will make up charges on the spot. They took 250 from me. Don't walk anywhere or drive anywhere either. Take a taxi . My uncle rented a car once and got pulled over and they said he couldn't drive that car despite telling him I rented it from your damn airport lol. They took his cash too and he was there for work related stuff. Good luck recording them they took my phone outa my hands and told me to get up against the wall before explaining what was going down.

This is the same story you will hear in the Riviera Maya, Tulum, Bacalar, Cancun, and even Isla. The crime rate is about what it is in the USA, but it seems tourists pay the ultimate price a LOT in these resort areas. Police are very young in Mexico, they work 6 days out of 7. They get paid almost nothing--so there are shakedowns to make money. I used to go to Mexico A LOT. Now, I have no desire. It's gets worse all the time. Last was pieces of a person in a bag 1.5 blocks away. Identified by his tattoos. The value of life is very cavalier in MX. They just go ask for forgiveness on Sunday. As far as extortion, and there is a lot, they figure the money they take from you doesn't really hurt, and helps them a lot. It's a different code of ethics. There are other countries to visit. Yes in any country it can be a danger, even at home. But, Mexico, between the police and the cartel is too much.

A nightmare tragedy BUT the wife's story does not add up. First of all, both she and her husband had been drinking throughout the night. This counts as a major strike against her memory and perception of events. The last time she saw her husband alive was when she got into bed to sleep and he got into the shower. A short time later she is notified by hotel staff that her husband was found 3 stories down. What's wrong with this picture? They were both safe and sound in their hotel room. How do the corrupt "killer" police who shook them down earlier come back into the narrative? Do they somehow get into the hotel room, beat and throw the husband off the balcony to his death while the wife is oblivious and sleeping just a few feet away? Does the husband get out of the shower and for some reason leave the hotel room only to be ambushed by the corrupt cops who just happened to be waiting for him? Did the police knock on the door and lure the husband out of the room? Lots of unanswered questions here that leave gaping holes in the wife 's story. What is needed to solve the mysteries is hotel surveillance footage which should exist. Thus far, what the wife "thinks" happened is just a theory that makes no sense based on the known facts.

A lot doesn’t add up about her story but the one thing I’m confused about is her timeline…she said that when she saw her husband and told them to call the paramedics, they told her that the paramedics were there an hour ago. If that were the case: 1. How did she not hear the sirens? 2. What took them so long to notify her, they knew the two of them were together and what room they were in so why wait a whole hour AFTER he was pronounced with “no vitals signs” to go to her room and notify her? 3. If he was deceased for over an hour, why was he left on the pavement where he “fell” for so long? 4. Where were the cops because surely within same hour that paramedics arrived, they would’ve also been on the scene? Regardless of the cause of death, are they just leaving deceased individuals on the ground at a resort? Wouldn’t the medical examiner/forensics team had taken the body to the morgue? 5. Here’s the kicker for me, if he fell and landed on his back then the fracture to the back of the skull makes since BUT that wouldn’t explain the bruises to the fronts of his leg, knees, etc.
