I recently made some fresh ginger tea ... then used the spent ginger slices to make some similar "candy" (but not dehydrated, really, just boiled in sugar-water, until the water evaporated). I can't get enough of it. Now I'm interested to try watermelon rind and anything else.
I dehydrate the watermelon itself at 135° for about 24-30hours depend on thickness, add no sugar & yummy, some pieces are crunchy, some chewy. I want to try this next time but agree with you about not adding sugar before dehydrating, thanks
A side question, is there a place or company that makes the silicone sheets with curved edges so that one could dehydrate other types of liquids, say veggie or potato soup or chili? I know that this community is great for this type of stuff. I will try this, have a watermelon in the fridge now. THANKS!
@@art4god870 Oh, no, that's too simple. Thank you so much. I don't know why I didn't think of this. I have the silicone sheets but not the cookie sheets. I have a Cosori. I wanted an American made but the two were plastic, Cosori is all Stainless Steel. Again, thank you so much. God Bless.
What about chemicals sprayed on watermelon while growing and transporting it? Still want to eat the shell? From your own garden probably ok, but from supermarket - never.
Yeah I tried this and used brown sugar. It looked absolutely amazing. It tasted awful. I think I was expecting the taste of the Jellybean Co. water melon flavour sweets type of a thing.
I add a little ascorbic acid mixed with the sugar to roll it in for sweer and sour gummies. The grandkids love them.
Sugar with lime salt!! That sounds awesome
You could save the watermelon syrup for pancakes. Just add vanilla.
Good tip
That’s an awesome idea!
Watermelons rinds were tossed out into the compost heap, not anymore, saving them to make this natural, crunchy sweet candy! :)
This is awesome! Was totally feeling bad about my rinds wasting so much
Great take on the candy. I do a lot of experimenting too bc I usually don't like the original. But it's ok that's taste for ya!

Interesting I’ve only made pickles, I’ll have to try them
Cool idea. I hate throwing away something that can be used. I want to try this. I know you can make watermelon rind pickles too. Might try that too.
And preserves with or without rinds. Ball book 2012 page 41. We never had ginger & made it without.
Thank you beautiful sister! Im making it right now. Thank you for sharing 🙇♀️😁
Enjoy!

I will have to try that
Now that's a new one...watermelon rind candy. I've heard of pickled watermelon ring. (:
Watermelon rind preserves. With or without the skin. Fantastic with a boring winter meal.
😗think the rind / sugar water would have been awesome for hummingbird nector
Great idea!!

Try mr. Google pants or the Amazonian site
Not that I know of
Could you use a small cookie sheet if you are not using the round kind of dehydrator?
