I just bought some of the GenStone. I thought about a relief cut along the back and top of the top ledge pieces to accept a larger bead of caulking. Then I thought about adding angle flashing before installing the siding just to help with rain etc and keep it running on the outside of the house and down to the ground. Theses also red guard you can add to the exterior before the GenStone install to add some moisture barrier along with the house barrier wrap.
@@firebird5288 it shrunk. HUGE gaps. Genstone said it was my fault by not using caulking but I did caulk the upper beveled trip piece. Gaps still opened up to like 1/4” and needed caulked again. Nope. I never heard the water sealing but to keep them together. I doubt it’d of kept them together as I have gaps at 1/2” now. Where I didn’t have caulking on the top pieces, those are at about 1/4” and pulled the caulking apart so I had to recaulk. Definitely a waste of money!
Just found you channel researching the Genstone, watched with interest about the installation. Previously watched a video from Genstone about the " proper installation process" they ran a bead of caulk across the the flange before installing the next piece. You stated that you have gaps of 1/4 inch between the panel and ledger. That will need to be recaulked. Since its been a year or more do you regret the choice of using the Genstone product. Looking for honest feedback, as its a big expense to lay out for a product failure.
So I am looking to add the Genstone to our new build but looking for some opinions from those who have put it in and had it for a while. How is yours holding up? Any shrinkage, discolor or chipping? Thank you for your feedback.
If I’m not mistaken it appears that you didn’t caulk each piece after install around the outer horizontal and vertical edge before placing the next panel. Just screwing them in I suspect would create future issues. Won’t that create gaps in the product later once they settle?
1. Keep house attic separated 2. Send the door back. Ran into an issue with a pivot door, we had the option of full return or they could send another to replace it. We opted for replacement but wish we had just gone with another company. 3 years later the door isn’t holding up. 3. I’d keep the board and batten all the way up on the gable end (go with the LP 16’ers). I think another horizontal brake in your wall will cause the wall to look segmented and layered instead of grand. With the GenStone at 48” that gives a focal point while the vertical siding will give the eye a place to rest. You don’t want it too busy with garage doors and 3 different siding looks (in my opinion)
I just returned a truck load of Genstone because the pieces did not match and the seams were very noticeable. Some of the flat pieces were not numbered and I was not impressed with their quality.

A lot of good quality doors have a seam near the bottom of the jam because they use a more weather resistant material, like fiberglass, to prevent rotting issues. Matt Risinger did an entire video about doors not too long ago, might be worth a watch.
Just a thought on your garage ceiling trim piece to consider. If you paint it black - it will read with the ceiling. If you go with the wall color - it will read with the wall. It might disappear more if it were wall color - with the strong black line as it transitions to ceiling helping to not really see it at all - if that is your goal. Just a thought. If uncertain - you could always paint with the wall - and if you don't like - come back with some black over the top. Harder to do that in reverse due to color bleed through.
Black should help it blend in I think because the ceiling is not smooth. While they dont have the contour, instead of ending flat you end with 1 more “rib” that should finish it. I don’t know but we’ll see.
