Hey V-Belt . love your Channel . I have an early 2001 / 2500 LWB 5.9 Cummings , SLT Plus Auto trans , 3:55 gears , Anti-Spin Diff. I bought the truck in 2009 to be able to tow our 257B Cat with bushhog to the Farm property about an hours drive away . we bought the truck from an older gentleman , it was just what we wanted , and had a dealer installed 25,000 # gooseneck turnover hitch . just perfect for what we wanted . we tow a 4400# gooseneck with 10,000 # of rubbertrack skidsteer with bush hog attachment. The truck does Great . 6700 # truck and tool box + 4300# trailer + 10,000 Cat skidsteer including attachments = 21000# GVWR . My truck pulls the trailer great , up and down hills , once we hit the freeway , it pulls easily at 65 mph . Thanks for your Video's . and Yes STOPPING is the Key to safety . having correct air pressure in the Truck and Trailer Tires is also very important , We have No Gages , put keep a close eye on the Engine temp . The truck has a programmer, intake, boosted air intake horn , airdog, fluidampr ,Awesome Truck , 270,000 miles ( I prefer the auto trans ) susan
I appreciate this I now going to try this in my 95 4x4 that is a clean truck that has 213 k on it . 3.54 gears . I just not a automatic guy . I had considered a Allison swap but that a very experience deal and I just want a standard and a 6 speed . I look forward to having a standard transmission . Edit now ..I have had the transmission in and drove it . I got decent mileage in spite of not having a higher overdrive ratio. Got the clutch safety switch wired into the neutral wire for automatic. So my cruise works . Bought a Mopar pig tale to splice in back up lights. Waiting on the TC shifter assembly I bought to use as mine bolted to automatic. I hope the shifter assembly off a 01 will work on my truck . I had a time finding one for a standard so I going for one one automatic. . Hope that works .I got a one piece aluminum drive shaft rear . Custom made cross member. . I bought a bm short shifter for the g56 . Works well . So far I like driving. Mileage is about the same perhaps a bit better in town .
The Holy Grail now rolls. Perfect Man! Gorgeous truck. Was it worth it? Only yer opinion counts. The rest of us can only sit and drool. I'm pissed about FCA dropping the manual too! This is what happens when they let office boys drive pickups. Working in Montana right now, and Extended cabs are had to find in decent shape, so Dude, you got a gem. Keep the vids coming, we're watching.
Love it man... makes me wanna search for another 12 valver. I had a 95 with 10” lift and 37s. Funny that I was clearing 37s on my 14 with only a leveling kit!
Second of 3 👍🏻 Badass truck 😈 you did a awesome job Sam ! Glad that everything works like it should 👍🏻 I really like the valair Kevlar clutch. Very smooth and holding the power.
Nice to hear your thoughts on the drive-ability aspect. Know I've mentioned before that I have '98 12v short bed with a G56 swap so I've appreciated this series. The two work hand in hand with each other. The gear spacing in particular is perfect. I know I will catch flack for saying this but I'm not a fan of the gear spacing on the NV4500. The gaps between gears are not consistent like they are with the G56; it makes towing in particular a very relaxed experience with the G56 because you never have to work the engine just a littler harder in one or two particular gears in order to catch a gear that's a little on the taller side- you're always in the perfect spot or can find that right gear. That leads me to agree that yes, you can easily skip gears because of the consistency aspect and monster low end the G56 provides to the 12v. It's easy to start out in 3rd on just a slight roll or go from third to 5th, 2nd to 4th, etc. Man this combination is so forgiving. Sixth gear is awesome for the highway. Plus, it's the smoothest and most refined feeling transmission out of any offering compared to the NV's to the ZF6 in the Ford for matter. Sure, some folks will say they prefer the NV5600 because it's cast iron and not aluminum like the G56. Unless you're sled pulling with crazy HP, the G56 for me any day of the week, plus, parts are much easier to come by and I like the way the G56's shift over the NVs too. Yup, I said it. Again, I'm opinionated of course but those are my findings. The 12v with a G56 is the perfect towing rig and like said, the two just work hand in hand with each other as if they were designed to be that way. Thanks for your review of the driving experience.
Very beautiful truck! I'm up in Canada and have a similar 1998 12V 4 door with the newer style interior and i was in the same predicament old 4 speed auto was melted and i wanted a standard anyway, managed to find a G56 with the newer transfer case, i have mine setup similar just with the transmission sitting lower in the tunnel, the new style t-case fits very tightly on mine about 3mm away from touching the one fuel lines but it hasn't been rubbing so far. It is a quad cab short box so the stock cut outs in the frame match up for the t-case to fit i haven't setup the front driveshaft yet but it is a tight fit a little scary. Just been to busy enjoying the thing to finish it!
Nice work Sam Loved the review Had a rebuilt - updated nv4500 from all state not good I seen your review on that a year ago just before I put it in my car. Yes you were right I wouldn’t buy one again 😢 2nd nv4500 little noisy in 4 th gear I have a g56 in the shed waiting to go in a Ford 12 valve ve pump . Makes it worse I’m in Australia hard to get parts over here. It was good to see you’re thoughts 👍
After buying my 01 dodge with the nv5600 was having issues with shifting. After putting the correct oil in plus the extra qt. then adding Motorkote , it shifts fine. I gave it a little time to work and with over 250,000 miles on it I’m very pleased with it .
V-BELT and SON I put in synchromesh oil, Autozone, Oreilys carry it. I fill from the top with 6 qts and add Motorkote on top of that, there is a night and day difference now, just give time. I change about every 30,000 miles and it doesn’t grind anymore. I hope this helps
Dropping the 12v mechanical with the nv5600 into the 46 Ford as we speak. It's too cold to ride the bikes and it's not snowing enough to go ride sleds. Might as well play doctor and merge new (ish) Cummins parts with an antique Ford. That'll piss em off. Glad to be watching your vidjas again Sam, best of luck with the trash weather we got. Till next time stay safe pard.
Sounds goooood. I have always enjoyed driving a stick shift. Appreciate your videos Sam.Watched a farming video recently and olé boy driving a Ram and hauling hay had a V-belt hat on in Texas. Reminded me that there is still some normal folks.
In the foxbody mustang world people want Gold as well for the manual pedal assembly, I recently paid $150 plus $25 shipping, which wasn't bad compared to some people wanting double, when I know they got it out of junkyard for less than 50 bucks
Okay, I’m jealous. I too, don’t believe that real trucks have automatics. However, being a die-hard Ford guy, they saw fit to take away my choice. My’17 550 is the first automatic truck I’ve ever owned. It does okay but it’s just not the same even in the manual mode. Keep the working man’s videos coming!
My ‘94 was that color, loved it, but automatic. Had to put a Suncoast in it. Would have done a stick, but no quad cab. Now I have an ‘01, quad cab, NV5600. If your’s is a 4.10, installing 285/75-16’s at 33” diameter will change your gearing down to 3.90-something. Dodge put 7.5” wheels on that vintage, so the wider tire will work OK. Or...you could go to a 17” wheel and tire, and upgrade to bigger brakes. I do like the look of those wheels, though. Mine are still stock aluminum. Most everyone changes their wheels, so I have a “custom” look.😎
Awesome vid, love the channel dude, I got a 04 Cummins 4x4 auto swaping a g56 in it right now ! Sounds like you got a pretty good deal on your g56 I payed about the same, had to bite the bullet and pay for core charge.
That red Dodge Ram 12 valve Cummins is like a semi truck shifting sounds awesome with the Cummins engine 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I love it!!! I'm new to the diesel world. Always loved them but never had one until now. I wish it was a dodge, I've always been a dodge guy but this was handed down so I'm not complaining. Some day I'll get me a 2500
I have a 1995 3500 dually was an automatic bought it two weeks later all gears became neutral i was seriously thinking about swapping the G56 into it but looking on the cummins form it sounded like a whole lot of hassle but the way you describe it i think I’m back on the band wagon of trying it mine is a 2WD so i don’t have the transfer case and only one drive shaft to modify
Damn yeah I'm definitely gonna get me a 12v 2nd Gen once done wit dis Diesel Mechanic Program or also have been thinkin bout a 3rd Gen cummins but 12V swapped with a G56 on 38s
Very happy for ya brother. We all have that special truck,"real or a dream". I'm not sure what more a man would want from a channel lol. Your abilities are more than mine but ...you go for it.I'm a 60 year old MAN,you pull your weight wellha ha🤘
I’ve just bought a 2004 3500 dually with a knackered gearbox, I’m planning on swapping to a manual G56. Just need to hunt all the bits down, which is a bit tricky being in the UK. Really enjoy your videos tho pal.
Nv4500 5th gear and nv5600 6th gear have pretty much the same ratio. The 5600 splits 3-4, if i remember correctly. However im not sure about the g56. 5600 and g56 are a better trans regardless 👍🏻
Excellent job. I wanted it to stay auto , but now I’m glad u didn’t. Lol. Looks and sounds great. I think it’s called a quad cab. Lmao. Love the jacket too
This is exactly what I want to do to my 97 dully 4x4. Going though my 3rd transmission in it and I'm tired of this crap. Time to go to a manual. Would love to find some one that can do this for me in the Los Angels, Ca area. If you or anyone here knows someone that can do this for me here please let me know, Thanks and nice job.
Love that sound, I have a 2013 Ram 3500, would like to swap automatic to 6 Spd. manual, any suggestions where to take it? or you do swapping transmissions?
At the end of the day who cares if you made mistakes!!!!! You had the balls to build the truck of your dreams and in my humble opinion that truck with that paint combo is one of the best looking trucks ever produced. Just remember the haters going to hate. Ps I drive a powerstroke😎
Should the 12 Valve even be have been offered in an automatic? Not in merica. If you get one of them antiquated diesel motors, it should come with a box of gears behind it.
Idk Sam I have a g56 in my 2012 dually I dont care for its notchy compared to my 96 12v with the nv4500 it shifted like butter 700 bucks for the drive shift that's nuts I just had one shorten cost me 132 bucks with new ujoints
I've got a 98 12 valve with the four doors, a g56 and compounds on it and I love it.
Man that 12 valve sounds soooo much better rowing through the gears than it did moaning against that torque converter
Nothing's ever gonna beat the sound of driving those mechanical cummins. Happy to own one.
Keep up the good work love your videos .I would like to have a 12v will keep watching God bless your family.

Love the sound of the 12 valve sweet looking truck. Glad she’s back on the road hope everyone is safe out there. Keep up the good work.
Congratulations, Sam. Glad you finally got her finished. Now to work on grandma's truck!

Reason I'm here is thers a 97 cummins extended cab short bed with g56😀
Gotta love that twelve valve sound you most definitely have a unicorn bro
I love watching your videos on the second gens.
Nice job... My old math teachers were wrong, 12>24. Lol good to see you happy about it though. Cost takes a back seat when it's something you love.
That’s one good sounding 12 valve, Holy Grail! Rare truck, with a rare mans mission! Awesome!
Love it man... makes me wanna search for another 12 valver. I had a 95 with 10” lift and 37s. Funny that I was clearing 37s on my 14 with only a leveling kit!
Great outcome of the 12 valve Cummins marries to the G56 transmission. Show some tow videos of it towning something heavy.
Second of 3 👍🏻
Badass truck 😈 you did a awesome job Sam ! Glad that everything works like it should 👍🏻
I really like the valair Kevlar clutch. Very smooth and holding the power.
Hey man love the truck looking to do a 6speed swap to my 12v can’t wait keep up the work and videos
Just here rewatching this! Can't wait to do mine.

Austen I can totally agree on the gear spacing. 2nd 3rd 4th are all space so differently. Especially 2/3.
G56 12v is probably one of my favorite combos! Better than an LS in an old muscle car LOL 👂 ❤️
No buddy, an nv5600 is far better than a g56
@@jaketrat3725How so? I’m considering upgrading next time the old 4500 fails.
The G56 Trans is excellent !
Love that 12v sound!
Congratulations Sam, that is a thing of beauty and the beast👍. Well done and thanks for sharing👍👍👍🇺🇸
My best friend had a 98 12value cummins manual wish i had that truck i loved it he sold it before he passed away.
I'm green with envy! I can't wait until I get my 3500 done. Looking for a 12 valve for it now. That is one fine truck Sam!
so jealous of this truck!!!! i want a 6 spd real bad!! and would love the cab. i got a 97, so no rear doors for me
I got a 97 also 5 speed 4x4 its on my page now I need to g56 it !
Great job Sam always doing a killer job on your vids man much love brother keep it up
410 gears with that year and standard you will feel it pull.
Yep. Thanks for that ending !!
Have a 2000 2nd gen 24 valve and my 4 speed went out. Definitely swapping to a 6speed brother! 👍
That truck is a bad cherry man! Love the videos! Keep up the great work!
That’ll out live any truck produced in the last 15 years. Perfect and simple, can’t beat it.
kunu98 yep for sure, just maybe 07 1/2 or 09 since they still had a 5.9

I got to say, that is one Bad Larry...as you would say Sam lol. Great truck, and that has got to be a unique setup. I really like it.
I just noticed that that Automatic shift lever is still on the column. Anyone other than you will be confused as heck when they jump in that truck.
its how you prime the blinker fluid, you move it up and down to keep the blinkers from burning out from being too hot
Loving the millennial theft deterrent system!!
Timberhitch LLC as a “‘mellennial” (16) i can drive stick, but i wish more people would learn as well
Bro I'm 19 and swapped an nv4500 on my dually 12v with spacers in the rear wheels cuz it wasn't wide enough. I drive through Dallas traffic every day
My ‘94 was that color, loved it, but automatic. Had to put a Suncoast in it. Would have done a stick, but no quad cab. Now I have an ‘01, quad cab, NV5600.

conrats. i am working hard tying to get mine running again, but i went way further in my build/swap.
Awesome glad to see it up and going and no not that I can remember seeing a g56 in one of these trucks
I love it!!! I'm new to the diesel world. Always loved them but never had one until now. I wish it was a dodge, I've always been a dodge guy but this was handed down so I'm not complaining. Some day I'll get me a 2500

biggestdodgefan that would be simple with 2 wheel drove
Better than a lot of music!
My guy I am not the jealous type but dang it I am jealous of your truck!
Needs some bigger tires, will help gear ratio issue too ;)
Damn yeah I'm definitely gonna get me a 12v 2nd Gen once done wit dis Diesel Mechanic Program or also have been thinkin bout a 3rd Gen cummins but 12V swapped with a G56 on 38s

That hand shaker is what made rams so good for hauling
Grandma's truck, are you putting the g56 in her truck.that is a righteous sounding truck and it looks great too.
Excellent job. I wanted it to stay auto , but now I’m glad u didn’t. Lol. Looks and sounds great.
I think it’s called a quad cab. Lmao. Love the jacket too
Hola amigo gracias por animarme tengo una ford fl50 2014 la quiero convertir en transmisión manual ,cuanto me podrías cobrar para el swap...
i love all the video its always a good time getting off work and waiting for you to upload
You Have To Do What You Have
To Do / To Make You
😁 FEEL HAPPY 😊
ENJOY ! BE PROUD GREAT JOB
👍🏼👍🏼👏👏👍🏼👍🏼
Nice job! Come out to NM, ride KTM’ year round here!
Ive "seen" one advertised on craigslist.. don't remember the price and it was a dually
Now just time to fix that steering column! But wow I wish I could find an old 12 valve
Yes! The auto column drives me crazy when I see it lol.
Lucky me I have a 12 valve 4x4 ext. Cab 5 speed I'll just have to add the g56 and length the 2 shafts!!!!!
Use to have drive line work done in West Sacramento. Prices musta went up. 🙄
That's an awesome swap in the red dodge. So jealous
That is so freaking awesome man!!
Great video thanks for sharing have a great day and sweet truck
Love see that sat up on a dually
That is one bad ass truck!! Love the videos and the truck!! Great work!!
Great video 👍
Love that sound, I have a 2013 Ram 3500, would like to swap automatic to 6 Spd. manual, any suggestions where to take it? or you do swapping transmissions?
You got a great truck right there!
My 06 3500 with g56 has 3.73 gears and its about the same. 2300 at 70mph
Unicorn, love it!👌👌🔥🔥
At the end of the day who cares if you made mistakes!!!!! You had the balls to build the truck of your dreams and in my humble opinion that truck with that paint combo is one of the best looking trucks ever produced. Just remember the haters going to hate. Ps I drive a powerstroke😎
Truck sure is sweet please let me know if you do the short throw shifter on the 04 been thinking of getting one myself
Truck riding dog! Ausies are the best
Now you just need to get rid the column shifter to complete it. Your like a little kid at Christmas in this video 😎
That things gold bro straight gold
I'm sad to say I am about to sell my 12 valve 2500 g56. Need a skid steer tho
Very nice you need to pull something bet it pulls good
You probably have already addressed this question.....are you going to get ride of the auto gear shift from the steering column?
Should the 12 Valve even be have been offered in an automatic?
Not in merica.
If you get one of them antiquated diesel motors,
it should come with a box of gears behind it.
Poverty pump is the way to go !!!
Idk Sam I have a g56 in my 2012 dually I dont care for its notchy compared to my 96 12v with the nv4500 it shifted like butter
700 bucks for the drive shift that's nuts I just had one shorten cost me 132 bucks with new ujoints
