    This place looks fantastic with the shops and full of passengers, I only saw when it initially opened.

    Thanks for this. I didn't realize that one could walk directly from Penn Station to Moynihan Train Hall without going outside and crossing 8th Ave.

      You're welcome. Yes, it's pretty convenient, especially if the weather is bad!

      @@newyorkerwalking At 4:51, are they planning on tearing up the columns and raising the ceiling? Because it kind of looks like it

    • @newyorkerwalking
      @newyorkerwalking  Рік тому +1

      @@armorpro573 That could very well be the case, looking at that area. Those ceilings are super low and one of the things that makes the Moynihan Train Hall so attractive is the elevated ceilings. So i wouldn't be surprised if they're looking to raise these ones as high as possible too.

      @@newyorkerwalking I would hope so. The rest of Penn Station is atrocious.

      Yes, thank you for showing that part! Ive never been to Penn and Ive got a quick connection between Amtrak and NJT. Your walkthrough helped me figure out a rough route!

    So that was the new mta corridor renovation (33rd st). The stores are along the south corridor along the real estate property.
    Tracks are used by LlIRR from 21 to 11
    NJT uses tracks 12 - 1
    Amtrak uses 16 - 3
    Penn Station is a mass transit hub shared by all 3 agencies. There are 3 levels all shared with someone.
    Moynihan Trainhall is owned by NYS. Amtrak and LIRR are Tenants to this facility therefore they have NO real say on what goes on in the building unless the state approves.

    I don't like how blindingly bright they've made some sections of Penn Station. It was perfect a few months ago. Some people complained the new parts were too dark, and now it's too bright!

      I agree! It reminds me of Occulus which is all white inside. Beautiful structure but absolutely no colors .

    Last year when I was visiting NYC I thought the Moynihan side of Penn Station is very beautiful however it does have some setbacks, the notable lack of benches along the columns not counting the ticketed waiting area for Amtrak riders and the food hall. I do find it's easier to navigate than the labyrinth that is the main section of Penn Station.

    • @newyorkerwalking

      The lack of benches has certainly been a major talking point across many NYC transit hubs.

    2:55 original 1910 Penn Station stairways. Where are all the benches for passengers to sit on?

    When will it be completed?

    • @newyorkerwalking
      @newyorkerwalking  Рік тому +1

      It sounds like they're expecting 4-6 years for the full reconstruction, but there's apparently a chance that certain phased sections may start rolling out after 1-2 years.

      I'm not too sure of the answers to your questions unfortunately, but here are a couple of website links that you may find helpful. The first link seems to have a contact number for any questions.
