    To anyone reading this: The first time I took the ACT I got a 22, but last February (fourth time taking it) I managed to get a 32. I raised by ten points and it took about a whole school year, but it is possible. Little tip: Science is the easiest way to improve your score. Improve on it, improve your composite.

    I noticed most of the ACT test is essentially testing your reading and comprehending skills. My #1 tip for anyone taking the ACT test in the future is to focus on improving your reading speed and comprehension skills.

    For number 58, I found a much easier method to be simply making up your own values for the variables and checking with the answer choices. So for example, let's make x=24, which would make t=2, u=4, and y=42. 24-42 = -18. We can then go along the answer choices and plug in our values for t and u and see if it would equal -18. If we use option F, it turns out as 9(2-4) = 9(-2)=-18, which is equal to what we found before. So you can choose option F.
    Of course, it's not the pure mathematical way of doing it, but it certainly saves a lot of time. This strategy of making your own values for variables and checking with the answer choices can apply to many different math section questions on the ACT, and is generally very helpful.

      the way the supertutor did it was to explain it to students that dont know how to do the problem. tbh, the variable way is much quicker. this is how i did it
      10t+u=x
      10u+t=y
      10t+u-10u-t
      =9t-9u =9(t-u)
      for me, this is way faster than making up values, then pluging them in

    Actually, for the first question you do not need to know what a geometric series is because after finding the first term, you know the series is infinite hence the name an infinite geometric series. So it has to be less than 30 otherwise the series would not be infinite being just two terms 170 +30 =200. The only answer less than 30 is 25.5 so it has to be 25.5

    As a 50 year old man who never had a real math teacher in his life, I am being forced to learn everything I can about Mathematics before I take the Praxis Core Math Test. Praxis Core and ACT Math are generally the same, though some claim the ACT is more difficult. Anyway, you can imagine the struggle I am having, especially with graphing inequalities, doing inequalities, and inequalities altogether. I can get through the Geometry and Numeration problems, and some statistics, but the graphing is completely new to me, and I don't understand why we have to do that at all.
    Finally, I've just received my MA in Special Education, and why I have to learn this stuff is also beyond me. I'll never teach 90% of this to my SPED Students, and why I have to learn it seems ridiculous.. God help me, is all I can say.

      I had an English teacher who was kinda the same way.. She was a veteran teacher for like 30 years, moved to a new state, had to do the licence for the new state and had to do that Praxis 1 or something. She passed, so not impossible. Not to take away from your story or anything.
      Im hoping to be a math teacher and I need a 25 at least for scholarships in my state.

      Isabella Prada with the second one, just plug in two numbers for t and u, such as 1 and 2. So x will be 12 and y will be 21. 12-21 = -9. Now, plug in t=1 and u=2 into the answers and select the one that gives you -9. Boom simple.

    The first question is totally solvable without knowing the geometric series, if the sum in 200 then the 2nd term has to be less than 30 since the first term in 170, which leaves us with the only possible answer, 25.5

    • @kenshinkadoya3197
      @kenshinkadoya3197 4 роки тому +3

    5:00 "you're screwed" funny thing is I didn't know what it was but still got it right using logic. (often times you can work around things) So after getting A, the first term using relatively simple algebra, you get 170. After that if you think about it, the sum of an infinite series (infinite terms added) is 200 meaning the second digit must be less than than 30 so all the terms can add to 200. The only choice less than 30 is F:25.5.

      Thatlazykid
      Science section is the hardest lol. And what do you mean it’s “more straightforward”? It’s the _SAT_ problems are problems that are more straightforward. There’s barely any time on the ACT to complete any of the sections, and the last 10 ACT math problems are much more difficult than the hardest Calculator math questions.
      I think the difference is that ACT math questions are much more wordy and demand more understandings of the mathematical terminology rather than the actual fundamentals of mathematics, which is why I personally find it more difficult.

      It's because ACT math tests your critical thinking skills more. SAT math usually has simpler questions. I did the PSAT math and nearly got a perfect score (I only missed one question) but ACT math I got a 31 , but I missed 9 questions. That was when I was in 10th grade

      @@lefthanded5473 I guess it depends on how you define "straight forward". The ACT in my opinion is very straight forward - 60 questions, 60 minutes. Calculator in optional but not required throughout the test. Very Simple. But SAT Math is more complicated, as a test. The content itself is different. In my experience at least, SAT math is mostly "solve for x" type questions, which can be difficult, but I feel that ACT math tests a wider range of concepts and better tests your ability to think critically about a given situation. I also think that 60 minutes is actually little generous, considering the questions are pretty short and most only take about 30 seconds.

    This isn't related to the ACT, but can you make a video on the SAT Chem and Bio (E/M) Subject Tests? Like tips, top need to knows, how to study for it, etc. I've taken college-leveled Intro to Chem and General Chem already if that helps. Pls comment if any of you guys have tips (especially for Chem subject test).

    • @chelseastevens9553
      @chelseastevens9553 6 років тому

      Erika W I took both and earned scores in the 600s. I took dual enrollment bio and chem, but I never took AP. If your classes are college level general chem or bio, it probably won't be enough for the subject tests. The content on the tests are closer to the AP exam from what I've heard. If you're taking multiple subject tests, you could go for the official college board subject test book. It has an official practice test for each subject test. I'd also recommend the Barron's review books, those are great for these tests. If you're taking the December SAT, start studying now if you can. I only gave myself a week to study for either test, and though my scores are decent, they're not great. Competitive schools like MIT will accept scores in the 600s, but they generally expect a 700 or higher.
      Summary and extra tips:
      Subject tests are like AP tests, not dual enrollment finals
      Get test prep books (Barron's or college board) or use free online practice tests
      Study as soon as you can, try to start at least 3 weeks in advance
      Get used to the subject test scantron (especially for chem and bio)
      Time yourself (the tests aren't as rushed as ACT math, but you still need good pacing
      DON'T GUESS! Well, you can... but these tests are like the old SAT, so a wrong answer will deduct a quarter point from your raw score. If you can't narrow the answers for a question down, skip it
      Good Luck!

      PIYUSH ANAND what is your current range of scoring in the Math section? If you're at 700+ now you definitely have a shot of getting a 800. Also, are you good in Math, in general? I'm actually the Brazilian Champion in some math international competitions (i.e. I won the Asia International Math Olympiad Final this year). But in my perspective, if you have a good base in Math, you surely can get a perfect score. I'd recommend you to understand what kinds of questions are in the SAT. The test is pretty predictable, so by just using Khan Academy (make sure you practice at least 3 sets of each topic) I believe you can get there. And make sure you took all of the eight official practice tests available and know to solve every question. I personally missed a few on the first Practice Test, but at about the third one I was usually getting all of them right. Hope this could help you, and if you have any doubts about it just let me know!

    • @piyushanand6664
      @piyushanand6664 6 років тому

      David W- I am good at maths, I have given 4 official test and got score of 800, the only problem I am facing is in English. I run out of time in critical Reading section and none of my strategy work in the writing section. If I read the whole passage in writing section I lose time and if I just read the sentence, then I make mistakes in arranging the paragraph questions and in the idea that next follows questions. What should I do to time myself? And which books to study from?

    • @ajydnbsuabsos
      @ajydnbsuabsos 6 років тому +1

      PIYUSH ANAND I was exactly in your situation before taking the October SAT. If you are constantly getting 800 in math in your practice tests you will likely get a perfect score on the real test, just make sure you spare some minutes at the end to review your answers. I'm also not very good in critical reading, but I can say the most important thing is finish in time. Don't spend more than a minute in one question. If you're stuck, choose an answer and move on. Maybe you can come back at it later (but probably not). It's ok to miss a few, you will "compensate" with your math score. About the Writing section, I'm actually pretty good (miss just 2 on my exam). Try to grasp the main ideas of each paragraph and also highlight the subject of the sentences that are questioned about. By using this strategy, I was able to improve my EBRW score from 630 to 720. A bought some prep books but I found my self learning more on Khan Academy. Practice all available reading sets, and try to pace yourself. I think that's about it
