- Everything we eat in our van! These are some of our go to van meals. They're quick and easy recipes with pretty easy to find ingredients. We're pretty limited on cooking space, sink space, and we have no fridge. #vanlife meals have to be pretty easy and not so messy.
The first campsite is Maruia Hot Springs and it's been one of our favorite spots in New Zealand.

The sand flies outside and heat in the van were not great. Not all rainbows and butterflies.😅 Still better than being stuck at work 9am-7pm everyday

Loving the New Zealand videos. Another beautiful place to visit is the Te Uruwera National Park. Beatiful scenery lakes hiking trails cabins an camp sites. Also for bugs insects u can get a few things candle repellents sprays or even get u a long netting to drop down around the back of ur van wen the door is up so u can cook an bugs can't get in.
My favorite is recipes and how y'all cook. Makes me hungry lol

@8:00 Sand flies are pool feeder, which means they have little scissors like mouthpart that cut up your skin to get to the blood meal. As a result, sandfly bites leave you with nasty scaring. Other parts of the world have sand flies that carry parasites, but luckily, New Zealand sand flies do not cause Leishamniasis.

Buy a tarp when you get back from Japan,and a few tent poles,guide ropes and tent pegs,extra cover over the back.

Can you show us a day-in-the-life in the van? How do you do everyday tasks like groceries shopping, showering/use the toilet, or waking up/going-to-bed routine? I imagine most things require some planning one way or another.
shopping is easy, it's not a large country so you will find a shop within 1-2 hours drive anywhere (small towns etc). the main thing you need to worry about is petrol/gas because it is easier to forget about, if you run out of it between stops (towns/cities) then you are screwed.
*edit* screwed because you can venture off course in crossing the east and west coast of the south island and then it's more like 3-4 hours between gas stations through Lewis Pass (the mountains) and not many other vehicles
@@mentalasylumescapee6389Aloha, sounds like the gas/petrol game of jeopardy I experienced on the Alk/Can. Second time I did it, I always topped off if I had a half tank. And carried an extra 5gal for some unlucky/inexperienced soul.

My sister posted some photos of her and her friends drinking some pickle brews. I've thrown a pickle in my beer before, but i have not tried the pickle flavored beer yet.

We use it for fried egg over rice, fried rice, stir frys, soups, steak, hummus, popcorn, really anything. lol
Since you guys travel a lot and most of the time have a beer with the final meal, how about checking out the local beer brewery. For the beer lovers it will be awesome and others too.

New Zealand hops are the hottest thing in beer and West Coast IPAs. Try and visit a hop farm.

AB Camping uses DEET for the sand flies
We try to cover up with clothes instead of DEET whenever possible since we're outdoors every single day. DEET every day doesn't seem healthy lol plus we don't have a shower so we don't want to marinade in that stuff.
