Umu Feast in Niue | Ground Oven

- This week's video is in Niue and we got invited to an umu, a traditional Niuean feast. Lots of local and fresh food served in an above ground oven typically heated with volcanic or river rocks. The food is wrapped in banana leaves and baked until ready.

These are the vibes I want for the dinner after my wedding. Not the catering hot plates, but a pig from a family member’s farm with grown and foraged goods that we all cook together!❤
Super cool video. Great food . I learned stuff and thanks to Jay and his family for hosting and teaching us all 🙏
Awesome content. Thank you. The cultural significance of coconut palms cannot be overstated.
Thank you for sharing your experience! The food looks soo tastyy! As someone who spends most of my life staying in a metropolitan city, your videos remind me that i am just living in my own small bubble. And how there are warm sense of communities from small towns. It makes me miss the times i used to help my mom cook in my hometown and how i used to fish with my dad before i moved here..
Really like your videos Taku & Jocelyn, keep up the good work! 😊
So much anxiety watching Taku take the husk off that coconut. I kept picturing him impaling himself.
same lol
That coconut crack down the middle was awesome! Love the lifestyle there. So much less hectic.
It's nice to see you Taku visit my little island in the pacific, and experience the life on the Rock that everything's is free and organic, keep up the good work, cheers

“Not on my island” 🤣 12:25
Cool my 2 favorite channels collaborating❤
🌴 Hey you two , this was fun it was something that none of us get to see , so this was their version of a luau, now I have to admit I was waiting for the guy to open himself up cracking around that coconut with a knife, ( good thing he wasn’t doing that with Japanese steel ) , always great to see what you two have in store for us , opening up coconuts , eating coconut crab , ancestral cooking methods, and meeting new faces from islands far away , have fun, stay safe see ya on the next vid 👊🏼👍✌️
One of the best look Umus I've seen on yt. Lucky yous

Hey guys! Love ur videos! which camera are you guys using ?
Life on the rock, 🤙
in Hawaii, do they also eat the coconut crab butt ?
In tahiti, it is sometimes called the "local" foie gras :)
Here in Hawaii it's called imu
Hey bro did you try the Niuean delicacy, flying fox and the wooden pigeon?,and the other best time to visit the rock is in October for constitute celebration, and Niuean got the best taro in the whole world
Yum,flying fox,my uncle used to shoot them down with his Shanghai, and roast them,at the back of our house in Alofi South, fond memories.
Ah c'mon Taku! RIP DAT COCONUT!!! 🤣🤣🤣🥥🌴
Lol use your teeth!!
Enjoy your time on the rock Tak and Jos..thank you for the video thoroughly enjoyed it. Monuina a mua kia?
Nesian food 😋 Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia
great footage! definitely don't see many umu videos, thanks for sharing. The camera mic was a little loud for you and made it hard to hear others tho
Worked in Micronesia, and they have a lot of coconut crabs. It's good but I rather eat lobster 🦞 from Maine
if you use citronella soap it works really real to stop mosito bites, the sprays never worked for me but the citronella soap did, hope this is something that helps
It doesn’t work for me 😢
@@TaklyntheWorld Try Peppermint oil, insects avoid it apparently, you will smell like a mint for a while though.
Everything look Onolious! Jocelyn please apply insect bite ointment on your mosquito bites bcuz it can get infected especially when the bite is red and feels feverish.
We call those tiny goat fish Oama pronounced O Wa Ma
Yall should have invited Mark Wiens on this one!
The food looks amazing! I would love to try any of those dishes...especially the coconut crab! But man, them flies swarming all over the place. That'd ruin my appetite automatically.
Also, Taku needs to work out during his adventures. That struggle opening the coconut husk was entertaining to watch. lol
A secret bug deterrent… get a citronella soap and bath with it. It should help you guys out with the bugs! Peace!
Love the video
Taku hit the gym.
Speaking of bug bites, just a heads up for New Zealand, take any warnings of sandflies seriously, they will 100% ruin any experience when camping.
Chur brother from On the Rock youtuber
How was the whole fish?
Not enough Jocelyn. Taku taking over the videos
Life on a rock!!!! I watch him
If use come to Tauranga Bay of Plenty New Zealand please message me.
