This might be a bit of an outdated question, but why can we hard face the harbor freight anvil if welding to cast iron makes it brittle?

You just gave me some great ideas for my own treadle hammer that I've been working on! Thanks.

It looks like a nice piece of kit. How readily could it be adapted to take 1 3/16 tooling?

You’ve outdone yourself my friend this is an actual practical essential tool BBS the other kind which was more of a gimmick imho. No offense of course but this is what your original idea really needed. Bravo

I bought one of your 6 year old power hammer plans, and they are alright, but you didn't add a material list so I had to go through every page and find the materials as well as some other things I had to figure out by the picture and drawing of the finished hammer and a few of the links are not working but those are my only complaints about the plans. I haven't bought any of the other plans so I assume that they have that stuff but overall worth it because I had no idea where to start.

I've been wondering, do the springs nullify the base amount of force that would be exerted by dropping the hammer without them ... is it still efficient enough to pursue making one if the amount of pounds is only the amount of force you pt in with your foot
Basically, is its only used as another hammer hand, or does it also preform better than the average person can strike?

To sort of answer your question:
There exists a very similar tool made with a splitting maul head, car leaf springs, and as much extra mass as can be attached, and is used for splitting wood. In operation, a person pulls the head down into a log one handed, and the excess mass allows the splitting of logs easily, while the car spring returns the head to raised, just like this treadle hammer. The same axe head, on a handle, would take multiple strikes swinging with both hands. Inertia on mass makes a more powerful strike, so this heavy treadle hammer is more powerful (and repeatably accurate) than a human striker.

Would it be possible to turn it into a power hammer and if so how would you go about doing that

Can you add the air assist later if you get the heavy hammer first?

A 42 pound hammer head don't put your fingers anywhere near that you'll lose them for good

Hey brother, I love your stuff. I wanted to share a weird idea I came up with. There is a woodworking channel called @731Woodworks and I thought you guys would be a great team for collaborating. My first idea was a folding Christmas tree with custom hooks for the ornaments. The tree would fold flat for storage and open up for easy setup. Just wanted to share my idea.
