Hi! I have seen from the moment that you explain the uphill-getting-harder feature, you show that different costful and place taking back-stander, for which one has to put off the whole back wheel! Since on one hand I would plan to keep it in the guests room, bike and stander, now only, that I'm not renting that room to a student....
The idea is to take it perhaps even for a double function, with time later in the future(Zwift+outside) thus, it would not be comfortable having to take off the back wheel. Is there any one of these back standers that do not necessitate the removal of the back wheel like the first type, but with the up-hill-getting-harder feature?
What if I have a power meter on my bike ? Whats the cheapest set up for me ? ? Please answer 🙏

We'd have been here for days if we went through every permutation and combination... This was meant to show the different available options and then people can mix and match based on their budgets. There are plenty of cheap smart trainers around to drive the prices lower

The first two setups gave me a lot of hope I could find a good setup for a few hundred, but no, they jumped straight to 900£

Hey, as a sound guy let me give you a little advice.
You recorded audio in two nice mics, nice. Good audio quality.
Now, while you edited this you panned ("moved the audio") a microphone fully to the left, and one fully to the right, but camera image is recorded mirroring the image, so you panned it to the wrong side.

It feels weird.
So here's my advice: next time do not pan a microphone fully on SX or RX side, pann them at the center, or a little to the right side where the audio is coming from.
(Also if you wanna a killer audio quality there are also de-reverbator programs out there, so you can remove this reverb on your voice, but you don't need to, it's still okay like that.)

I'm an ultra-marathon runner, looking to transition to the half ironman then full ironman in another year or so. I was searching for this exact info and your video seems friendly to those of us looking to set up at home. For now, something like this will help with cross training while I save up (for months) for something to start riding in - the bikes I intend to do Ironman in cost more than my first ever car.

Nice video guys, I saved a grand getting a Wattbike Atom NG, mat and heart monitor ~1800 UK pounds - connecting to my iPad Pro - and I have to say it's so much fun. The Atom doesn't have the gimmicks like the Taxc Neo, although you guys didn't mention the road feel abilities of the Neo, nor does it have the climb of the Wahoo Kickr but it's a solid bike well built and for me it's given me all the data and accuracy I want as well as allowing me to participate fully in the Zwift platform, very happy! On a side note being British, buying the Wattbike is supporting local businesses and I'm not sure the Wahoo Kickr smart bike is available for purchase in the UK.

Good one, this. Still on my mid 90s taxx , with its 7 resistance levels cable actuated, the little mrs unfortunately threw away my early 80s Peugot that has been the dedicated turbo cycle since the 90s. Must admit drooling a bit on the kickr...

Great job guys. Its a big help in trying to decided how I want to go. I got a nice Campy equipped bike that I'm really not able to ride where If live. I miss the hills of Southern California. I think its better to go mid range and ride my bike, then go out and get a Peloton style bike. Do most smart trainers except Campy hubs?

Look for a recent model laptop with a broken LCD screen, cheap or even free which works fine connecting through HDMI.

Tacx neo has road feel so you feel the road surface changes too
We'll have to get on some virtual cobbles
rocket board is also something that could be explored to add realism into indoor cycling

I upgraded from a mag trainer that had 5 settings to a fluid trainer. The fluid trainer is so much harder than the mag trainer!
Any idea of the make/product ID of the clamp magic arm or something similar to get my phone out of the (falling) sweat zone?? Nice watchable vid and well explained.
I suppose the headwind would work with the Tacx smart bike since it can just link to your heart rate monitor.

Can this plug or connect direct to a smart TV without anything else?
Do I need the bluetooth tranmitter for round the bub, or the one for the wheel, or both?
Can I use a mountainbike? or does it need to be a road bike?
Do I need a special tyre?
I’ve already got a Tacx trainer that I’ll use, if poss? It’ll be the same resistance, not bothered about that.
I also have the mat.

When you buy a new trainer from a taxc satori to like the elite do you go faster in zwift more watts

Great videos guys. Im a complete novice so this is very helpful. Im hoping you can help me further. Im hoping to buy a Wahoo V5 trainer when back in stock and will need a bike as well. With most of my funds going on the Wahoo, Im hoping to buy a 2nd hand bike for around £100-£150 to use with the trainer and maybe use outdoor in the summers. Firstly what i need to know, will any bike fit on the Wahoo trainer? Also would you recommend a mountain bike or racing bike and any idea what model I could get 2nd hand for my budget of aroynd £100 to £150? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Or you can just go outside and ride, but great to see the ramp up from basic to incredible kits. Great to have options when you don't feel like going outside, though.
Or a cheaper option you can just buy yourself a half decent disc brake bike if you haven’t got one already for winter and some cycling clothing to keep you dry/warm and just go outside!
What's the best budget alternative to the smart bike? I don't own a road bike so need an all-in-one excercise bike with the ability to have my speed affect Zwift/Kinomap etc. Thanks. :-)

Pretty sure it comes with a set of flat pedals in the box but you can use your own clipless pedals

apple tv is a really cost effective way of getting zwift on a big screen, you do pay a bit of price in terms of ease of use over some of the other options though.
It always cracks me up in cycling videos where they aren't cycling, they are still wearing riding gear showing off those moose knuckles.

any bluetooth or ANT+ speed sensor should be fine, choose a bluetooth one if you don't have an ANT+ dongle

OK video, but: (a) There seemed to be a big jump from the 2nd to 3rd set-up, and (b) it would be helpful to list any issues related to things like internet requirements, ANT+ dongles, Bluetooth requirement, etc. There almost seems to be an assumption that people have up-to-date phone, and/or high-speed Internet ... I'm in the middle of trying to set myself up on Zwift and am hitting some of these issues because my other tech (phone, laptop) is a bit behind the times.

5:02 do you have a inbuild speed censor and a cadence meter in that Smart trainer ?
I think the newer generation trainers all have built in power meter, and can work out speed and cadence from that, so no separate units to measure anything, other than the heart rate monitor.

You put an eight speed cassette on the trainer.
On cheap version they say there is no resistance. But don't the bike's gears provide the variable resistance?

@Nick Maclachlan Thanks such knowledgeable answer, the thing is my mom has a MTB, she usually rides it in the morning two to three times a week, but pandemic, yaddda, yadda... And my mom was inquiring me the other day about buying a spinning bike, but I think its not worth, and recently I'm also working out from home, and this Zwift thing seems like a great investment. I will first check my axles, the bike is not too old, I think 4rs~ maybe, and it was reasonably priced back then, but I'll check that. The other thing I'm afraid too is investing a thousand bucks and then nobody except probably me will use it, whenever I'm here that is.
Not a tech guy but investigating connecting a wahoo kickr to my iPhone and link to a smart tv with an HDMI cable with lightning bolt adapter. What is the "dedicated pc" going to do for me in addition to what I mentioned above? Is the pc required?? Thanks!!
The only thing the the PC will do is free up your phone to use the Zwift App for directions etc. You could use a laptop or tablet to run zwift, that's what most of us do. The dedicated PC was just another option

chromecast is a lot cheaper than apple tv if all you want to do cast your screen on a big tv
Yep, you're right but the Apple tv was running Zwift, whereas the Chromecast wouldn't be. It is an option though if you wanted to go down that route, obviously we couldn't show every single variation in set up

Question, zwift said also a power meeter. But you say if you have a speed meter you wont need it. So just the trainer and speed meter and youll be up and biking right? @roadcc
You are able to Zwift with either a power meter OR speed sensor so a power meter is not a necessity. If using just a speed sensor then a cadence meter is also strongly recommended, Hope that helps :)

Unless you have a tv that can download the zwift app you will need a laptop or phone that you can connect to the tv via a hdmi cable or similar
