Amazing to learn that you too were in the Navy and had been at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA. I have been there myself on two different occasions, taking submarines through overhauls. It really is a beautiful area of the country. I have some fond memories of my time there. Thank you for your service to our nation Jim.
I have installed and removed grips with the cheap air compressor I keep in the trunk of my car for years now. I use cp2 grips on my clubs and have never had a problem. Some grips can be hard to remove but I have found that warming the grip with a heat gun before removal makes the job a snap. Haven't used double sided tape or solvent for years. I have never lost a grip using this method.
Love my MP20 MMC’s. I also lived in Bremerton when I was in the Navy. Nice channel. Used to play Gold Mountain all the time when I was beginning golf. Great times.
I had less than 5 rounds on those CP 2 pro grips which is why I wanted them saved. At the time I bought the irons last year the PXI wasn’t an option so went with Modus shafts then lo and behold found a set of PXI shafts online for sale and had a local fitter pull the Modus for the PXI. Great shafts and they performed very well but I really wanted to make the switch to graphite in the irons. Couldn’t be happier with how they turned out. Thank You
greg wayne having watched a number of the TXG videos comparing graphite and steel it seems clear that the graphite shafts of today perform just as well (if not better) than steel. I’m also getting older and wanted to drop some weight without dropping performance and that Accra 100 (I went with the 90 in the 4 iron) was perfect. I think going from 110-112 grams down to 80-90 in the irons would have thrown me off. Cannot wait for the CV19 to ease off so I can give them a try. Even if they feel weird at first I don’t think it will take long to adjust. Irons have always been the best part of my game. Driving, chipping and putting not nearly as good
In 2010 I was “custom fit” for Mizuno MP-58’s which is one of predecessors to that club MP-20 MMC. the MP-58’s weren’t very forgiving, but very solid and felt great on center strikes Loving those Accra graphite shafts. They look like what I need since I’ll be goin to graphite in my irons later this year!
Howdy Mr. & Mrs. McGolf! I’ve just got to ask because my big ol’ ears just got all tingly & excited upon hearing the intro/outro music to this vid... what/who was that? It reminds me of the guitar wizard Jeff Beck, circa his “Wired” album. I’m as big a nut about 70’s style jazz/rock fusion as I am about McGolf videos, so plz fill in that blank for me. Whoever’s in charge of selecting music ..... KUDOS & CHEERS 👏🍻
Rookie club builder here. I built a few sets with the help of Golfsmith in-store classes. I LOVE your videos!! I contacted a local builder about blowing off a Fatcat putter grip. He said it was NOT possible. I am assuming this would work on a Fatcat putter grip?
when you asked he may have thought using air. However, I dont think blowing off multi ply large putter grip such a super strokes and fat cat have a high success rate. You can try but be prepared for buying a new one
When using air, put a section of an old loose golf club tube over the grip. It is slightly bigger diameter than the grip an can prevent a grip explosion. It occasionally will also save the grip. Grip explosions are rare. Grip "bubbles" are not. The way Jim does it is messier, but more dependable - more likely to save the grip. Also depends on the brand of grip. Lamkins are a little firmer rubber and are less likely to blow up or bubble. The CP2 grip he is removing here is very smooth on the inside and will come off a little easier than some others. A Superstroke or Winn with a "skin" will tend to come apart, especially with air when either removing or installing. Usually wrecks the grip. Just cut it off and start over with Winn or Superstroke with skins.
Did this way for years at our course. Got the v grip remover tool and for grisp like these that have some give it is sooooooo much easier using the tool versus this way. Both can get the job done but get the tool in my opinion!
cahal21 I tried the V tool because it looked much easier and who wants to keep buying needles, but I just never got on with it. It’s a good tool though
I have the same solvent pressure gun (Duz All Sprayer), I have rebuilt the trigger but discovered my tank was full of corrosion. Any suggestions on how to clean that out or where to find a replacement, thanks
The amount of comments I got over on TikTok by saving a grip the same way is insane! Everyone saying to do it by air. I also like using the industrial sized needle, a larger gauge and stronger. I guess even at 37 years old, I too am old school!
Great video..thank you. Couple questions. Putting a hole in the grip with the needle doesn't compromise the structural integrity of the grip? No issues reinstalling a grip with a hole in it? Instead of shooting the solvent through a hole why cant you shoot it under the beginning of the grip on the shaft? Last question where can i buy that needle gun injector thingy?. Ty
Its doesn't impact the integrity, With the hole in the back it doesnt see the pressure until the end of the installation and by that time its too late. Never had an issue so far. There is a tool to install solvent from the tip opening. I tried with little success however others are more success with it. I have to keep my finger over the weep hole to keep pressure so I stay and the butt end of the grip. Golfworks has them
I have searched everywhere and can not find one of those pressure guns. They all show pressure washer guns. Would you help me out to find one to purchase, please?
My y first attempt with air was to pour white spirit into the hole in the grip to , put the blow gun in the hole and puff some air in at 90psi, everything worked well until a difficult mid size grip on a spare shaft, I decided to up the pressure and POOM the shaft shot out like a javelin and landed in some neighbours garden 60 yards down the street !! Luckily not spearing some unfortunate person or animal .
the only con I can perceive is the cost for set up. I still have to check on the layer of tape thing for proper sizing. Personally Id put a layer of painters tape on just to make sure
Good video! What I don’t understand: blowing off grips just with air is not possible? I thought that’s how it works. And what’s the tool called? Looks like a reasonably easy way to save most grips. Thanks
I blow my grips off with a portible car compressor pump... If you use the attachment for blowing up air beds etc and insert it in the end of the grip, switch the pump on and let the pressure build up, you need to perfect the skill but I've blown off many grips this way and doesn't cost a penny to buy any equipment... 😊👍🏻
Action Jackson blowing grip with just air is very possible. It just take some gear like a pancake compressor, air line and a tool to insert into the butt section of the grip. Tons of folks are doing this method, it just takes a few tries to get the hang of it.
to dumb to figure it out: so i guess there must be solvent in the container, is the container pressurized? I have a compressor and been trying to take off some almost new Winn grips. I'm not even close to getting any of it to work...HELP :(
The needle is a VERY DANGEROUS tool. You can severely hurt yourself using it. To remove grips use a V-Groove Grip Removal tool. It works EVERY time and is completely safe to use on Irons, Woods and Putters. It’s available from any retailer selling gripping tools.
Yup, still have a scar where i jabbed myself with the needle carelessly swinging my hand around on the bench and accidentally jabbing myself deep in the pad of my hand. Took a long time to heal and was the worse injury I've ever given myself building clubs. Be careful using the pressured container and needle!!
PLEASE be very careful using solvent in that gun. 35 years ago I was using that exact gun on a putter grip. I later discovered it had an extension in it. I pushed in the needle and began pumping. Nothing happened. As I reached over to adjust the club the needle which had hit the extension and bent back popped out of the grip and injected the mineral spirits into my finger. Eventually they saved my hand but I lost half of my ring finger. Most hospitals will not touch an injection wound. Please, be very careful with this tool. Wes
Ulster the general answer is more solvent. Sometimes the underlisting is thin or at least feels like it. I find the shaft end is jagged and causes the problem
Not sure how you wouldn't know that is a steel shaft. You also don't need a shaft puller to take of heads on a steel shaft. No reason to heat up the ferrule first also. Just heat the hosel and twist the head off and then use your knife and cut the ferrule off. Takes 2 seconds instead of minutes like you're doing. Rookie stuff for someone that's been doing club repair for a while.

Good to see grips getting blown off. Now I know exactly what people have been talking about.
these were not blown off btw
I love this channel.
Its unique.
ok I've done this lots, by the tittle I thought you were going to use air and that is what I wanted to see
Super cool content always wondered how clubs were fixed and made. Keep it up!

"you have no idea what that thing will penetrate until you do it" - story of my life brother.
Great clip! Question: What's the liquid coming out of the grip? Is there solution in the air can?

Definitely more dependable in my mind as well!

How many times did you have to insert the tool? I just ordered one through Golfworks . Thanks
What is the name of the tool he uses to blow the grips off. I need this tool asap :)
Where can I buy that grip removal pump can w/ needle tips? What are they called?
I have the same solvent pressure gun (Duz All Sprayer), I have rebuilt the trigger but discovered my tank was full of corrosion. Any suggestions on how to clean that out or where to find a replacement, thanks

If a grip was installed with two sided tape. I would guess the needle gun is faster and far more easier than air. one with out not so much
Hi, Where can I get hold of a pressure gun?
Great video..thank you. Couple questions. Putting a hole in the grip with the needle doesn't compromise the structural integrity of the grip? No issues reinstalling a grip with a hole in it? When you do shaft replacement for mailed in clubs, how do you decide on what shaft to put in? Would love to see a vid on this process for fitting.
I have searched everywhere and can not find one of those pressure guns. They all show pressure washer guns. Would you help me out to find one to purchase, please?

HA HA HA LOL. One learn in betweetimes. Your good.
I play Mizuno MP-59 irons (c. 2013). They are remarkably similar to the MMC.
im going to try this i had my first grip slip cause of the miniral spirit i used it took the glue off the tape
I has a scraper to remove the tape off steel, but is there a way to get tape off graphite without a scraper?
Heat gun works the best
I just regripped 13 clubs today by blowing them on the ONLY way to go
When you pull off a grip like that do you wait a certain amount of time before you put that grip back on????
Can you tell me where you find the pump? A google search came up empty. Thanks
I got mine at golf works
Where do you get the needle pump thing you have
Golfworks
Hi, what do you call that spray bottle and where can I get it ?
Pressurized needle gun, the golf works has them
What are your thoughts on installing grips with air compressors instead of solvent? Any disadvantages to it?
the only con I can perceive is the cost for set up. I still have to check on the layer of tape thing for proper sizing. Personally Id put a layer of painters tape on just to make sure
Where can I get that pressure tool?
How much is it to change a set of shafts
Thank you in advance

Still no word on how to get one of those pressure gun……
what kind of shaft puller/ vice is that?
the vice is the typical clubmaker vice that is/was available at GW, A 6" vice will do the piece the sets it apart is the wooden spacer it sits on.
to dumb to figure it out: so i guess there must be solvent in the container, is the container pressurized? I have a compressor and been trying to take off some almost new Winn grips. I'm not even close to getting any of it to work...HELP :(
Bill Winter there is grip solvent in the can.
I would imagine it would be harder to do on full cord...?

Thanks Wes, I actually inspect the grip prior to squeezing the trigger.
This cool as cause so many people think this is a myth!!! busted 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Any advice on the installation of Winn grips. Their design makes them a lot more difficult than normal rubber grips. Thanks.
Ulster the general answer is more solvent. Sometimes the underlisting is thin or at least feels like it. I find the shaft end is jagged and causes the problem

I just heat and twist with steel shafts …
Why wouldn't u just put it into the vise and then heat the head with a c-hair of pressure
How to get to your video title of removing a grip after 4 and a half minutes. I saw the gun, read the title, clicked. I'm a fool.
still racing rc??
