Nice one. As you were told, the original third member - Yuimetal - left in October 2018 because of an ongoing (undisclosed) health issue, she last appeared in October 2017.
Su-metal and Moametal chose to continue as a duo (supported by 3 dancers for live shows who would take turns dancing in the third spot) for the next 4 or 5 years. This video was the last thing they released as a duo before Momometal was revealed as the new third member on 1st April 2023.

BABYMETAL only works because Su's voice is clear and powerful enough to cut through the drums and guitars. Anything less would get drowned out.

Hopefully they will play this song at Knotfest Brazil tomorrow or the day after at the solo show, either way I'm to shine this dark dark world.🦊🤳🔦

This performance gets me very time. Su‘s voice is priceless. We always knew that she is good and has a strong voice, but as you said, with all the Metal usually behind her, it was never that obvious. This really shows how much is actually swallowed by the Metal sound wall, and why it takes a strong voice like hers to get through.

A fav Suzuka story is how, as a sm. child, she would drive her family crazy by singing loudly. That's easy to imagine in a sm. (to us) Japanese house. Vocal "coachs" always talk about how she uses techniques favored by opera singers and Su, no doubt could have persued that path had she not crossed Koba's. At any rate, she is one of the World's great mezzo sopranos and to really hear her range, you should ck out BM's great masterpiece From Dusk To Dawn (Budokan 2021).
The song - Some have conjectured it is about the tragic events of WWII (Koba and the team never expound on "meanings" of songs). But we do know a few things; Su was born in Hiroshima and I seem to recall reading that her Grandmother told her stories of that fatefull day. Also, the song was "in the works" for quite a while and Su may have played some role in it's development. For her part, I believe Su expressed surpise when she found out the song was being interpreted in that way. Certainaly, BM is not polictical and their persuavsive themes are almost always up-lifting.
So we are left with, as more often than not w/ BM, an enigma.
So can the horrors of war and the beauty of rebirth and spirital growth both be present? W/ BM, the answer is certainly yes. Monochome is a great example of this, each of the three versions can be interpreted differently and I might add that the Lyric version gives some strong visual clues
BM is much deeper than folks new to them realize. They give us layers to peel back in a very Zen way. Those who would like to explore this further should ck out Andrew Hartely's You Tube channel for his insightful discussions.
Seems to me, you are ready for one of the BabyMetal guides as well.

Su-metal is a hell of a singer and a total performer. Her vocal and performing abilities where the reason why she was chosen to lead BABYMETAL in first place.
This is not the first time she showcases her vocals over unplugged instrumentals since they also have acoustic versions for the songs "Akatsuki" and "The ONE".
But this one is very cool because we can clearly see how she works her technique. Very beautiful song and version, amazing execution.
    🤘🦊

Nice reaction! Su-Metal is something special. Some kind of genius, IMHO. And blessed with a quite unique voice. Monochrome f1rst take is simply beautiful.

Yes, you need to know her full name "Suzuka Nakamoto" aka "SU-METAL" or "SU" for short. We all know that she would still be very famous even if she chose to be a solo singer or an idol. So many fans think that her choice to become Su-metal is the luckiest thing for BabyMetal fans. Thanks for your great reaction.

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。In this first take version, the girls proved that they can do anything. They have forced people to headbang with their heavy music and sharp choreo. Now they can depict various images by just singing and project them into the listeners' brain to move people emotionally. Thank you BABYMETAL. And thank you Koba, the BM producer, for your serendipity. Some 14 years ago, you certainly discovered something amazing and sacred for us.
Speaking of the three figures in white hood adding some background vocals, they are homage to BM's girlhood with original three girls, I believe. And many fans noticed who they were.

They are very small, even standing beside other Japanese women they look very small, but onstage they are ten foot tall

Monochrome was the standout track of The Other One (2023), a concept album featuring polished & more sophisticated tunes (while lacking the hook-laden hits of their earlier years) except BM currently doesn't officially consider it to be their 4th studio album. The song has emotionally touched a new generation of fans in the last couple years, just like RoR had been during the second half of last decade.
FYI There are 3 versions of Monochrome, each resonating deeply yet differently with listeners/viewers.
The MV version is seen as an eulogy to Hiroshima bomb victims (Su is from Hiroshima), although BM & Kobamental have declined to acknowledge this interpretation, preferring to point to the video director instead for choosing the war imagery. WWII remains a sensitive issue, exploited not only by both the Japanese right & left wings but also neighboring North & South Korea as well as Mainland China, let alone guilting Americans for what their military did.
The First Take piano version is seen as a tribute to the Yuimetal era, particularly 2014 to 2017 when the younger BM ran the gauntlet overseas &, at ages 15 to 19, endured a lot of toxicity & cynicism in mainstream metal. BM turned those negativity into uplifting songs like RoR & Karate (about persevering, staying true, forging one's own path), & the hooded young girls in Monochrome First Take (2023) is very reminiscent of similar props & gestures (eg. gripping each other's hands) seen in the Karate MV (2016), & as such thought to be reinforcing the same theme.
The live version is seen as BM thanking the fans for accompanying the long journey with them. Thus, the magnificent sight of everyone waving camera torchlights at concerts carry extra meaning. As the lyrics call for, they are illuminating the monochrome sky with rainbow colours, are heartened that dawn will eventually arrive, & to "just smile" in comforting one another.
