ALL reviews on ALL motherboards have the same big fail. They do not show the number of lanes available on any secondary pcie 16 slot. They could be 4 or 8 or even 16 electrically. Many add in boards require 8 lanes to function that means the only way to use them is put the GPU in a secondary slot. Yes this limitation is not a reviewer fail it is a manufacturer fail. MSI is the cheapest B650, ATX motherboard with WiFi Asus on the other hand is top notch B650E motherboard with WiFi, Thunderbolt and double PCI-E 5.0 - probably would last to the end of AM5.
TY for your opinion. I was thinking about the Asus ROG Strix B650E-F and had second thoughts about other cheaper boards but now its confirm. I will go with Asus ROG Strix B650E-F for my build with Ryzen 7950X. Feels like that would be a futuristic investment.

If I was buying AM5 right now, I’d go for the MSI option. Least worry and easiest issues to deal with. I’ve had a good experience with their components.
Yeah but still IF you have an old PC booting Windows in EG 15 seconds you dont want to get new one with 40 sec boot times or even 90 without tweaking in BIOS and make the system unstable...
I know this vid is a year old, but now is the time to buy a MB with PCIe 5 for GPU and M.2. The prices of the MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK are awesome, we get all the features and future slots for the upcoming RTX GPUS.
Hey guys, I’m about to build my first PC for work. I’m planning to use the Ryzen 9 7950X with a B650 motherboard since the price of X670 is quite high in my country. Are there any risks or limitations with this setup? (If possible, could you recommend some B650 models?) Thanks for your advice!
I'm debating whether to do a mid-range build (27" 1440p monitor, 5800X3D, RTX 4070ti) for ~$3,000CAD Or go ballz to the wallz with a 4k OLED (LG C2), 7800X3D, RTX 4080/90 (I have a huge desk that's 3 feet deep and I'd be using it for mostly games & movies/TV shows so 42" is not excessive for my desk) for ~$6,000CAD I currently have a 24" 1080p 60hz monitor paired with a 1st generation intel CPU lol.
That’s quite a different path and either one is a massive upgrade over your current setup. I’d go for the higher-end one. This will last you longer and give you a future upgrade path.
Where I am, the MSI Pro B650M-A WIFI board worked out as the best value. I'm not sure if this was available at the time of the video. Hard drives are never, ever fast enough, so I went hunting for a 5.0 M.2 drive and just couldn't find one. Wifi isn't essential but I've found wifi dongles can be temperamental. Will be the first build I've ever done without hard drive cables floating around. And why is the USB standard so fucked that it describing a USB port requires verbal gymnastics?
What MB, CPU, Graphics card would you recommend for a Pro Photographer with intentions of also doing some video? My software won't presently run -- it tells me I need some version of "Vulkan" -- which I do not have. Faster & better and also to run some of the new "AI" program parts. {I tend to keep my PC's for a looong time.}
Hi Danny, I'm looking at building a new gaming rig for the first time in about 15 years and am interested in investing into the AM5 Platform and currently have the following components on the shopping list (budget is around £2,000). The games I like the look of are (I mainly play FPS and RTS games): Cyberpunk 2077, Doom Eternal, Call of Duty series, Overwatch 2, Borderlands 3 and such like. I believe combining the Ryzen 5 7600X with a GPU like the RX6800XT (or higher) will squeeze the most performance out of the system and also has an upgrade path built in (the Ryzen 5 7600X can cope with the fastest GPU on the market, even the monster known as the RTX 4090 - so maybe when the price drops). * CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X * GPU: Radeon RX6800 XT or the 6950 XT * Mobo: MSI MAG Tomahawk B650 WIFI * CPU cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin or DeepCool AK620 (or maybe an AIO Liquid Cooler like the Arctic Liquid Freezer 2) * RAM: Kingston Fury BEAST RGB 16GB (2x8GB) 5200 CL40 or similar * PSU: CoolerMaster MWE Gold 750W V2 Fully Modular or similar (min.750W, at least B-Tier) * Case: So many to choose from but 2 that I like are the Be Quiet! Silent Base 500DX and the Antec NX410 (ideally would like the Hyte Y60 but this is a tad pricey at over £200 and the GPU is the most important component of all) * Monitor: Gigabyte M28U (a 4k one). I'd be interested to know what you guys think of this proposed setup!
Great build choices. Only things I would modify is trying to find 6000MHz ram at that seems to be the sweet spot for price vs performance, either GPU would be great and definitely go for air cooling. Better reliability. I’ve had crappy luck with liquid coolers failing lately
Hello, I like every part of your build except the power supply. For now it is fine, but if you want to upgrade your cpu and video card in the future, 750 may not be enough
Hello, I plan to buy the 7800X3D. I am not interested in overclocking and want to buy the Asus ROG Strix B650E-F version because it is significantly cheaper than X670E-F. Do you recommend buying this CPU for a more "inferior" version like the Asus ROG Strix B650E-F. The X3D will work fine?
It sure will! The VRM and MosFets can handle that chip with no problem. I run an X570 board for AM4 but with the direction board manufactures have gone with price and performance, everything has gone up. I’ll most likely follow your lead and get a B550 board with a 7800X3D as well.
Hey i'm building a pc with a ryzen 7600. What B650M board do you recommend for futureproofing? (Planning to upgrade to a 8000X3D serries when they'll come out)
I think the Asrock B650 Livemixer is a solid choice too. Lots of USB-A. One PCIe 4.0 x16 and x4 directly off of the CPU and one x4 off the chipset, all physical x16. You can even put in a Thunderbolt card. Btw. be aware of the boards that have a two PCIe slots off the CPU. Some split them to x8/x8 when plugging cards in both. This can slow down your GPU by 5% to 10% !!! because now it only has an PCIe 4.0 x8 instead of x16. Also, bios flashback is required by AMD to be on every board.
i'm gonna combo the 7700x with a b650e-e and some good 6400mhz ram. My current mpbo is from an old prebuilt, and my cpu is on it's last few months of life (r5 2600), so it's gonna be a very noce upgrade
In my country, the MSI X670E Gaming Plus WIFI is the same price as many B650 boards. I kind of like every spec except the entry-level audio chipset (7.1 (Realtek ALC897). For 240€, I will probably get this for my ordered 7 8700x3d. I know PCIe 5 will be useless in the next few years, but I plan on keeping this motherboard for at least 6-8 years.
Hello. My name is Joe. I did my first and only new build almost exactly 1 year ago. My motherboard is an Asus ROG Strix B550-E gaming w/wifi and blue tooth, Ryzen 5 3600 CPU w/Wraith Stealth cooler, EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G5, 80 Plus Gold 850W power supply, G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 3200 SDRAM, two Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SN550 NVMe Internal SSD's, and a very old, but still functioning WD 4TB mechanical HD, all in a Phanteks Eclipse P400A atx case. I had to settle for a crappy GPU because, well, it was 2021 and GPU prices were prohibitively expensive. It works, and I am happy with my build, but I want to upgrade...especially the GPU. My questions to you are as follows: 1. Should I keep the B550-E, or go with the new Asus ROG strix B650E-F, knowing I will also have to replace the memory and the CPU? 2. If I replace the MB, What CPU are you recommending? The new AMD 7950's are having real issues, i am hearing. I am NOT interested in Intel CPU's. I'm an AMD fan. 3 If I keep the B550-E, I am looking at getting the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, ASRock Phantom Gaming OC Radeon RX 6950 XT, and adding another 32GB of memory. I think this may be the best route to go. What is your opinion? Thank you for your input. Your video was very clear and concise.
The platform you have is great. I’d stick with that and simply upgrade. I think you have a good plan with a solid choice for parts. I was going to get zen 5 stuff now that motherboards have come down in price but I think I’ll be skipping this generation with all the early adopter issues they’ve been having.

Yeah, I don't think it's appropriate to say B stands for budget anymore when they have budget boards starting and going so high. And I thought Intel boards were getting too expensive haha
One thing you didn't talk about is the audio chipsets and the motherboards. Someone else mentioned that you don't get good audio on the cheaper boards. I really don't know much about this though but trying to figure it out.
I'm currently running a 7900X set to 65W TDP on a MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk. It has a horrible, high-pitched, electrical whine / crackling noise coming from the CPU. I'm using a passive CPU cooler (no fans), No GPU (using onboard graphics), and all case fans at 0 RPM. So, it's not anything mechanical that is making the noise. Any suggestions as to which board or boards will have the least propensity to experience coil whine?
I don’t. I’ve had that problem with the MSI ACE board back in the day with intel but haven’t had that happen since. Never experienced that on any other motherboard.
For my build I was planning to go for the b650 tomahawk but somebody recommended the x670 tomahawk and I was confused to why since it was more expensive . Yeah I might not need the x670 , even though I want to look into over clocking

The graphics card a saw that seems good is the Radeon RX 7900XTX which is a bit pricey but I don't want it to be out classed in a year or 2
You don’t need to go all out on the motherboard. A B650 board will do just fine. I usually look at the rear I/O like USB ports and Ethernet speeds to make sure it’s got everything I want. I also look at how many PWM fan headers it has. I like all my cable routing to be easy. So I’d say it really depends more on what case you choose than “future proofing”
I have the Asrock Riptide Wifi and haven't had any issues. I'm running a 7900xtx and 7800x3d so maybe I should have gone with a higher end board but eh it works.
So I'm not allowed to sell some or all of my current system to offset the cost of upgrafe? I'm pretty sure AM4 parts are in high demand. AM5 will be around for a long time so the cost of platform upgrase should be spread out across several years.
I think i dont want to over spend. Dont know if its necessary to get a am5 board if computer games haven't caught up to the technology. Am4 board with ryzen 5 or 7 is more than enough for games that have a proper graphics card. That would be the only part to upgrade in my opinion and the needs of a system.

rather than the b650 tomahawk wifi I would rather get the b650e pg riptide wifi from asrock for 240, or if you want a white build the b650e steel legend wifi for $270 (although I got mine for $250, and relatively frequent sales have put it as low as $240).
Yeah I think I’m getting the B650E PG Riptide WiFi. If spending a little bit extra money means I can upgrade to a new gpu in a couple of years with pcie 5.0, I’m all for it
Great video, thanks a lot for the effort!
Thanks danny this will help me on my plan build.
But I would be nice to know at review time, to discount the board immediately.
You should make a series called “7 second review”. Like all you say “yeah it’s good” or “no don’t bother get this instead” then link to your “yeah it’s good” video. Those id watch.
Thanks Danny! Saved me a bunch of money. I've always thought bigger was better, but you have convinced me that I've wasted a bunch of money over the years. Thanks again for the info!
Anytime! Glad it helped. Enjoy your PC
Good video! Thanks man you have a way to translate the specs and products into plain English lol, don’t get me wrong being super specific helps but also can tangle someone’s brain that’s a novice to the PC world. Subscribed!
Thanks. I try to keep it simple and easy to understand. Most people want something that just works, isn’t overly complicated, and comes in at a good price!
@@DannysTechChannel Hi, i want to buy the Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming WiFi and a Ryzen 7800x3d. DDo I need a bios update if I buy both of them new and want to install them?
Most likely not. It should just be plug and play since the X3D chips are the same base architecture
So, in your conclusion, you compared previous generation to current, while not comparing the 7000 series boards..
Amazing information, very clear !! thanks
I went with the Gigabyte Aorus b650 Elite Ax and the only problem I faced was my 6400mhz ram was not compatible so I ended up manually overclocking it to 6000mhz and I'm loving it so far.

I agree with your assessment, I have an amd ryzen 3900x system. Only reason I decided to upgrade is due to cpu and mobo issues. I am about to RMA it. Then I will give that one to my kid.
I think all current motherboards are underwhelming, so get the cheapest thing you can get since you're going to end up replacing it inevitably.
Got the ASUS 650e for my 7900x. Couldn't be happier with it

Totally up to your style. They are all good boards but I’d go between either the tomahawk or the TUF. My personal favorites
I don't plan to do any OC so I am going to buy either MSI PRO B650-P WIFI or Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming WIFI.
MSI is the cheapest B650, ATX motherboard with WiFi
Asus on the other hand is top notch B650E motherboard with WiFi, Thunderbolt and double PCI-E 5.0 - probably would last to the end of AM5.
TY for your opinion. I was thinking about the Asus ROG Strix B650E-F and had second thoughts about other cheaper boards but now its confirm. I will go with Asus ROG Strix B650E-F for my build with Ryzen 7950X. Feels like that would be a futuristic investment.
I went with MSI PRO A620M-E and Ryzen 5 7600, 300$ both overclocking is dead anyway and hopefully future CPUs will be more efficient with lower TDP.
im building a 7800x3d on a MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK WIFI
ASrock X670E Steel Legend is a great option too.
Tnx it helped alot❤
You bet!
Thank you! I'll buy the last asus one

Thanks a bunch! Hopefully I can help ya with your next upgrade
Last - most expensive board, but lacks: 1) no spdif digital audio output, 2) no biosh flasback on rear side visible...(maybe not at all?)
In a bit of a trouble here, looking to upgrade my 10900k to a 7800x3d but based on the recent news, ASUS boards are a no-go, MSI has high boot times and some Gigabyte boards apparently have very bad coil whine. Any fool-proof recommendations at around 300usd price point that are worth checking out?
Why is Mark Strong giving PC Tech recommendations?
Anyway i took the B650 Tomahawk for my 7800X3D. Thx.
No regrets with my rog strix b650e-f with a R9 7900x
Is it good? i want to build the same
I'm debating whether to do a mid-range build (27" 1440p monitor, 5800X3D, RTX 4070ti) for ~$3,000CAD
Or go ballz to the wallz with a 4k OLED (LG C2), 7800X3D, RTX 4080/90 (I have a huge desk that's 3 feet deep and I'd be using it for mostly games & movies/TV shows so 42" is not excessive for my desk) for ~$6,000CAD
I currently have a 24" 1080p 60hz monitor paired with a 1st generation intel CPU lol.
I agree. I feel like it just keeps getting more and more complex. I wish it would have been simpler.
Best in depth video I have ever watched. Amazing video full of information I needed. Subscribed and liked.
i just ordered a b650 plus wifi and i'm gonna get the r9

does it has any bios update issue?
I have the Asrock b650e pg riptide wifi and so far it's really awesome
What MB, CPU, Graphics card would you recommend for a Pro Photographer with intentions of also doing some video? My software won't presently run -- it tells me I need some version of "Vulkan" -- which I do not have. Faster & better and also to run some of the new "AI" program parts. {I tend to keep my PC's for a looong time.}
Hi Danny, I'm looking at building a new gaming rig for the first time in about 15 years and am interested in investing into the AM5 Platform and currently have the following components on the shopping list (budget is around £2,000).
* CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X
* GPU: Radeon RX6800 XT or the 6950 XT
* Mobo: MSI MAG Tomahawk B650 WIFI
* CPU cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin or DeepCool AK620 (or maybe an AIO Liquid Cooler like the Arctic Liquid Freezer 2)
* RAM: Kingston Fury BEAST RGB 16GB (2x8GB) 5200 CL40 or similar
* PSU: CoolerMaster MWE Gold 750W V2 Fully Modular or similar (min.750W, at least B-Tier)
* Case: So many to choose from but 2 that I like are the Be Quiet! Silent Base 500DX and the Antec NX410 (ideally would like the Hyte Y60 but this is a tad pricey at over £200 and the GPU is the most important component of all)
* Monitor: Gigabyte M28U (a 4k one).
@@DannysTechChannelhat mother board would you recommend with the 7800x3d
@@JasonXBeats yes safe some money and go for this cpu :)
Hello, I like every part of your build except the power supply. For now it is fine, but if you want to upgrade your cpu and video card in the future, 750 may not be enough
Hello,
I plan to buy the 7800X3D.
I know PCIe 5 will be useless in the next few years, but I plan on keeping this motherboard for at least 6-8 years.
thanks for this
My questions to you are as follows:
I was going to get zen 5 stuff now that motherboards have come down in price but I think I’ll be skipping this generation with all the early adopter issues they’ve been having.
i'm only intersted in uprading to a rysen 7000 mb with 8 sata ports for my 3,5 hdd setup. not many to chose from. Chould i buy a cheap MB (not interested overclocking) with fiew sata ports and a buy a pci card with extra sata ports on , Do the cheapest ryzen 7k board has enuf pci lanes to for add on sata ports ?
Yeah, I don't think it's appropriate to say B stands for budget anymore when they have budget boards starting and going so high. And I thought Intel boards were getting too expensive haha
Microcenter b650e-f with 7900x and 64gb ram for 549 usd. .❤❤❤...I am so lucky yo have micro center within 25 miles.
Any alternative to Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming WiFi? It uses Intel's Ethernet which is known to have connection drop issues.
One thing you didn't talk about is the audio chipsets and the motherboards. Someone else mentioned that you don't get good audio on the cheaper boards. I really don't know much about this though but trying to figure it out.
Generally a $20 USB DAC beats most onboard audio. I don't even bother with motherboard audio chipsets anymore and disable them in BIOS.
@@ravneiv Do you have any decent recommendations that are around the price you mentioned?
Never experienced that on any other motherboard.
what is the audio like on the asus b650e-f? keep reading about 'audio codecs' being bad and its giving me mobo anxiety lol
Can you explain the fan header issue on the asus board? Im hearing it causes headaches with the daisy chains or something?
What about B650M? What's that? Gigabyte has it. I'm thinking at ASRock X670E PRO RS and X670E PG Lightning. Both are around 300$ in my country.
For my build I was planning to go for the b650 tomahawk but somebody recommended the x670 tomahawk and I was confused to why since it was more expensive . Yeah I might not need the x670 , even though I want to look into over clocking
Hi, Do you know is nividia 50 series will come with pci 5.0? Does it worth to spend now 100usd more for that pci 5.0?

Personally ive been looking at msi tomahawk, gigabyte aorus elite ax and gigabyte gaming x ax, well mainly the first two i think. Tomahawk would be the cheapest and aorus would be around 20-30 bucks higher.
I have the B650 tomahawk here in the studio and I LOVE it! Even used a 7800X3D on it
Just bought a gigabyte aorus b650M with a 7600x. Do I need to flash the BIOS before adding my CPU ? im so confuse !! Some people tell me to flash it (cause it wont work otherwise) and others tell me that it will be fine. Any advice ?
Pop it into the motherboard. It should work right out of the box. If it doesn’t, try your motherboards BIOS flashback function. It should have one.
What do you think about The B650M DS3H with 7600X?. I'm really planning on that one, or the B650 Tomahawk instead but the MSi is way more expensive

Tough choices.
Asus TUF x670e is the same price as the b650ef right now. Both are overpriced tbh. Gigabyte B650 Elite AX on the other hand is $100 cheaper.
What about lines to connect CPU with M2 SSD and GPU?. I think if you have one GPU and 2 SSD M2 only two of then can connect to CPU at the same time?. It is a bit confused for me. How can i check this?.

B650 is your best bet. Are you primarily gaming?
Ok so I have an Xbox Series X and I'm looking to switch over to PC and also have my gaming at pretty much 4k 60fps and actually have an upgrade from the Xbox. I thi k I'm going with the Ryzen 7800X3D and want a good motherboard that's also a little future proof. Any ideas.
So I’d say it really depends more on what case you choose than “future proofing”
what about going with the asrock b650e pg riptide which is currently $240? i currently have interest in this board.
I have the Asrock Riptide Wifi and haven't had any issues. I'm running a 7900xtx and 7800x3d so maybe I should have gone with a higher end board but eh it works.
I should have gone with the MSI board instead of the gigabyte arous elite AX 😣😭😭😣
So I'm not allowed to sell some or all of my current system to offset the cost of upgrafe?
I'm pretty sure AM4 parts are in high demand. AM5 will be around for a long time so the cost of platform upgrase should be spread out across several years.
Not everyone HAS a current system. Sure, sell your AM4 stuff to help with the purchase. These recommendations are for anyone looking to build.
Im planning to go for NZXT N7 B650E Gaming Wi-Fi 6 Motherboard with a 7800x3d
I think i dont want to over spend. Dont know if its necessary to get a am5 board if computer games haven't caught up to the technology. Am4 board with ryzen 5 or 7 is more than enough for games that have a proper graphics card. That would be the only part to upgrade in my opinion and the needs of a system.
is the Corsair 32gb 6400, 32cl good for the B650E-F?
