My band hahahahaha, yes I'm biased and have the right to be hahahahaha
American head charge and Deadsy (they're a strange band for sure)
I think my favorite industrial metal band would be Static-X but I still feel like there's a lot of industrial metal bands I haven't heard yet
kraftwerk should be atleast top 3
Surprised neither Hanzel und Gretyl nor Combichrist got mentioned
Killing Joke has always been great and their more metallic material is absolutely amazing.
Glad to see Godflesh on S, once you understand what Justin Broadrick is capable to you start to know that industrial metal is not only put cyber stuff on a metal track.
I would also like to see Hanzel Und Gretyl on the list, their first two albums were more industrial than metal but after that they become more metal focused, a very experienced band that deserves recognition.
Strapping Young Lad is underrated as hell. Wish they went on much longer.
Some Devin Townsend songs still have that energy if you miss it, same with Fear Factory in some cases. I feel that v-v
Fear factory is s tier. Thru and thru.
Without Ministry there would be no Industrial Metal. Period.
It definitely wouldn't have made it out of the underground
Remember nin
Big Black, Killing Joke and Einstürzende Neubauten are Vital as Well!
@@killforfiendYes, 3 of the best. I still like Ministry the most.
Throbbing Gristle holds that honor I’m afraid.
I’m hoping next Nine Inch Nails material will be back on track. I really loved the collab with Health and felt like that was a return to form. But agreed that Hesitation Marks and moving forward has been dissapointing besides a handful of songs and the notion of experimentation.
Yeah honestly these days his soundtrack work is better
@@MetalTrenches I find the work he did beyond the Fragile including whatever you mentioned but it in its own different way, Trent is no longer an angsty 20 yr old and his work has matured with him, experimenting with many different sounds and flavours and not just what made him famous, I found the new trilogy to be pretty great.
Also PIG belongs on this list. Kmfdm is the best with Raymond on vocals
Agreed
Skold and ogre formed symbols to be what it is
Who's pig
You also forgot Laibach, hugely influential on MM and Rammstein at least, even if only one of their album is proper industrial metal ("Jesus Christ Superstar") their dark martial flavor of industrialism intruding into pop territory started in the 80s is just too big to ignore!
My favorites out of those are Rammstein, Static-x, Godflesh, Author & Punisher, and KMFDM, Also it's good to see 3teeth Author & Punisher keep and the industrial sound alive. I must ask have you heard of Hanzel Und Gretyl? one of their songs also appeared on Mortal Kombat Annihilation movie at the last fight scene. Their later stuff have become more death metal.
It's Sad That Nobody Mentions Nailbomb,Godflesh,Crawl, Skrew, Klank, Red Harvest, Strapping Young Lad or 3TEETH. Underrated Metal Industrial Bands, Apart from which Rammstein belongs more to the Neue Deutsche Härte Togheter With Laibach and Oomph!
nailbomb is amazing
Good list, although id personally put KMFDM at S.
I can understand that
Same
Good to see Frontline assembly on here. Not quite sure if front 242 is considered industrial metal but it's definitely got that industrial vibe. I would have also included Godflesh in s tier their work is pretty much impeccable. Speaking about nine inch nails have you heard of his other project called how to destroy Angels? A very different direction but still pretty good. Also I think mindless self indulgence kind of has an industrial vibe. But then again there are plenty of industrial metal bands.
Sonic Violence, Skin Chamber, Candiru, Meathook Seed, Scorn - Vae Solis, Ice, God, Blood from the Soul, Killing Joke since the 90s, Spektr and so on.
I don't think anyone's mentioned them yet, but the band The Bezerker from the early 2000s is great. The mix of industrial and death metal/grindcore really works for me
Preach brother.
One of my favorite metal bands of all time. Their first 2 albums in my opinion are S tier
Half of those, I dont think of as Industrial Metal, but a few who comes to mind is; Combichrist, Die Krupps, The Electric Hellfire Club, Skold, Nailbomb, Static-X, Treponem Pal, and Skrew.
Oh my god is truth, Skrew deserves being on here.
I think they are between B or C because they are not industrial anymore and their discografed got "meh" after two albums.
I am surprised Oomph! was not included.
I am not surprised Turmion Katilot was not included but it's a shame. I feel like almost nobody knows this band.
Yeah, same here....Also enjoyed the early off-shoot band from Turmion Katilot from 2008 named 2 Times Terror. 🤘
Good list, and I mostly agree with your assessment. However, I would have included Killing Joke on here as well. They have influenced many of these bands,
Seconded regarding Killing Joke. Also check out our (Decoherence) cover of "The Wait" on our newest album "System I" via Sentient Ruin Laboratories record label.
Fair call
Always interesting to hear your takes on things, especially regarding NIN. I actually love Trent's new stuff. Especially Hesitation Marks, that super moody and clean poppy electronic sound I think he actually nails. You said the newer stuff disappoints you, but do you think it's outright bad or just not your taste?
I just find it kind of dull. I think my main issue is that it doesn’t really sound like Nine Inch Nails and I’d rather he just have it under his own or another name.
Does 'My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult' qualify? Curious where you'd put them if so.
B Tier?
Check out Skrew - Shadow of doubt! I used to jam that a lot..Some fun tunes..
I'd love to see where Health and the classic but oft overlooked Machines of Loving Grace would end up. Both tier S for me, but I'm biased.
Pitchshifter have pretty good albums from their metal era: Industrial, Desensitized, Submit and Infotainment. They deserved to be on A-tier list at least.
UPD: and where is OOMPH!?
Yeah their first albums are top tier, the problem is that their newer albums ruined them.
Did you know what happened to Oomph! Vocalist?
Definitely, just check Pitchshifter's song "Cathode" from the Desensitized album as an example. A-Tier, easily.
Front 242 has influenced so many bands and have been around forever, and still killing it. Killing Joke is another
242 are EBM
I saw Skinny Puppy when they toured The Process back in 2014. That was SP's metal period. But I wouldn't consider them an industrial metal band as well as half of these. Great video though. I'm enjoying your channel. I would have included Stabbing Westward and Youth Code. Testify and Punish Yourself are other notable mentions. Testify is pretty obscure but they're worth checking out. Always happy to see Godflesh. I always associate Industrial metal with them.
Check out the Godflesh list if you haven’t already. New album later this year. I also hear that Stabbing Westward might have something new? Not sure on that one.
Stabbing westwards early stuff was good, I haven't heard anything recent unfortunately.
Would love to hear your opinion and I will be giving a ranking of them myself all their albums even the wayne static solo album pig hammer
agree with everything except that for me NiN is definitly S tier
Same. I was triggered by that. Trent Reznor is like Mozart.
@@karlmalone2464 i know!! Is like a Grand Master
samee omgg
@@karlmalone2464 FACTS HE LITERALLY IS THE MOZART OF OUR GENERATION
I completely agree with what you said on nine inch nails I definitely prefer there older albums. But still nine inch nails is my favorite band ever
My favorite industrial metal band are Ministry, Marilyn Manson,Rammstein, Fear factory,Static X. Can we have industrial metal new releases the next times?
What you think about the french doom industrial PHOBOS¿¿
Just including A&P deserves you a like, friend.
Finally a industrial metal youtuber fan who knows the real stuff!
I would like to know your ranking on:
Nailbomb
Red Harvest
Mechina
Die Krupps
And recomend the band Realize, which has an monsterous sound
Suscribed btw 👌🤘
Mechina is good shit. I think I have listened to Red Harvest and Nailbomb as well
@@MetalTrenches Mechina is awesome, love the cyber metal side of industrial the most :)
You should check out youth code if you’re into industrial. It’s got a bit of a early ministry feel.
Great ranking! I think that the band from Rammstein's singer, Lindemann, is good. Hocico, from Mexico, is another band that worth listening to. They are more electro industrial, but pretty solid.
Growing up with all of the older bands, I have owned Sehnsucht, Demanufacture, and The Downward Spiral either on cd or tape (lol). Though these albums were influential to my current musical tastes, Strapping was more intense... and Devin still has some influence with DTB today.
To be clear, I have respect for anyone who is willing to put out lists to start the conversation!
Sad that this genre has had such a steep decline in releases in the last decade or so
Only came here to see Godflesh on S tier and was not disappointed. One of the Pantera members told Broadrick how refreshing it was to here an industrial remix of their songs sound metal and not electronic.
die krupps needs to be up top somewhere
Couldn't agree more with you about Trent (Nine Inch Nails) focusing on soundtracks rather than tainting the legacy of NIN. Were it not for The Slip, I'd be happy with their discography ending after The Fragile, to be honest.
This seems to be a ride that a lot of artists outstay their welcome on, not knowing when to jump off. We were talking about how Tool's latest album was really disappointing creatively, and the same could be said of many other artists.
Few seem to hang up their guitars at the right time, although I'm glad that the Dillinger Escape Plan went out swinging.
I agree,I quit collecting the releases after the fragile. But Broken and TDS,PHM great
I would of liked to see Thrill Kill kult on here. But I like seeing the bands nobody talks about and I love!
Good one. They have some jams.
Just wondering, where would you rank The Lord of the Lost, on this list?
Not a huge fan personally
Where would you rank a band like Sybreed?
so hanzel und gretyl, wich tier are they? personally i think they are better then half of bands on the list. for me FF, Ministry, KMFDM and Godflesh are the best, even thou they have some weak songs and albums.also, i never understand why so many people like NIN,i like industrial, but i never heard a single song from NIN that i liked
For my personal tastes probably about B Tier, but it's been a while since I gave them a serious listen.
Where is O.L.D? Their first album was purely grindcore but since Lo Flux Tube they started giving some interesting industrial albums.
a little late to the party, but where would you put Gravity Kills?
Never been a huge fan but it’s been a while
Good stuff! I agree with most of your rankings...Although it hurt me when you put Ministry in the A tier. They are definitely an "S Tier" quality band. Also would have bumped 3Teeth up a notch.
It was a tough one
Completely agree with Ministry = S, 3Teeth = A. I find Godlflesh to be overrated by most people. Realistically aside from Streetcleaner there is nothing too influential, or memorable. Godflesh = B.
I'm with you on 3Teeth, maybe after another album or two they get bumped up?
@@ericwill2133 Hope so
Was expecting to totally hate this, but pretty good list. Hard calls - if we were talking influence only there'd be no way to have NIN and Ministry anything other than S, but both had meh later discographies.
Yeah some tough calls when looking at full careers vs. benchmark albums
@@MetalTrenches i think how many great songs? is a more relevant question.
Why dont you do a Manson ranking?
Dawn of Ashes 🤘🏻
And Orgy’s new stuff with Julien-K is solid!
Did Ministry and Prong get a mention?
I don't understand why people click and then don't actually watch. Yes, Ministry is discussed.
Would you consider Paradise Lost an Industrial Metal band? They have so many different sounding albums. It’s like Industrial Death. I’ll tell you though there is some very strong music in their catalog and I find myself listening to them regularly. The genre thing confuses me sometimes because there’s so much overlap…..and that’s a good thing.
They’re doom but I see the elements
Will you ever rank Static-X? I have not seen a ranking of Static-X from anyone
It’s on the list
16 Volt needs more love
YES!!!
Was a huge NIN fan back in the day, love Ministry and Fear Factory
Good ranking, I mostly agree with it, although I'm not a big fan of rammstein. My fav band in the genre will always be Manson.
My last find in industrial metal was Red Harvest, it's pretty neat, like Godflesh mixed with Satyricon or something.
Thanks for watching 🤘🏻
I remember starting to get into industrial rock/metal when i was like 10 😂 then deathcore at 11
How old are you now?
I dont understand the S.A.B.C.D categories, what does they mean?
S basically means “super.” It’s for more or less perfection. The rest are just letter grades like in school.
@@MetalTrenches Okey, thank you very much.
Treponem Pal should have made the list. First three albums were great. The Young Gods early albums were easily A tier, if not S. Not exactly metal, but so were possibly bands on this list. And as others have said Killing Joke, though they perhaps are more "post-punk", should probably be there (on S).
You must listen to "You Won't Get What You Want" by Daughters, such a amazing record
It made my Best Of The Decade video in like the top 3 or so if I recall
A couple of French industrial metal bands I've enjoyed for about a year are Dagoba & Dust In Mind. I know and like Dagoba way better, from what I've listened to, they're a fair bit heavier than Dust In Mind.
Cubanate, Dawn of Ashes, Psyclon Nine?
No Sybreed, Mnemic or Samael? :o
I'd move Manson, NIN, and Ministry to S and Deadsy to A.
Do a gwar or mushroomhead or wednesday 13 one plz
Acumen Nation is pretty awesome also
Also, check out the first few Statiqbloom albums. They gimme lots of skinny puppy vibes
Statiqbloom is great
Man the 3Teeth comment aged well. EndEx is incredible
Missing many great guitar industrial bands: Die Krupps (an absolutely unforgivable omission), Klute, 16 Volt, Cat Rapes Dog, Killing Joke, Oomph!, Lacrimosa...
Inexcusable to omit Die Krupps, there would be no Rammstein without.
Industrial Metal is a hard genre to kinda classify, because a lot of the bands that were labelled Industrial Metal either don’t sound similar, or have got their own things going on. Also Skinny Puppy are more Punk, not really Metal. And Motionless In White are Metalcore, not Industrial.
But if I was to do a tier on Industrial influenced bands as I’m going to call them, then for me it would be this. Also there are some bands/artists I’m leaving out like Blue Stahli and Zardonic as I feel they are more Industrial than Industrial Rock or Metal, and I’m leaving out Throbbing Gristle, Skinny Puppy, and Killing Joke as those 3 are much more Punk.
A (top tier)
Nine Inch Nails (not really a fan apart from the odd song, also more kinda Industrial Rock than Metal)
Fear Factory (also not really a fan but I’ve got big respect for them)
White Zombie (like the odd song but overall not really a fan)
Static X (not really a fan apart from the odd song)
Rammstein (not a fan but they are influential)
B (good tier)
Ministry (not a fan)
Marilyn Manson (not a fan)
Dope (I like the odd song but apart from that not really a fan)
Filter (now I am a fan of Filter, underrated band)
Rob Zombie
KMFDM (I’ve only heard very little from this band)
Strapping Young Lad (not a fan, and also they are a bit on the extreme side)
Pitchshifter (I only like their later stuff PSI for example)
Mushroomhead (not really a fan)
Godflesh (don’t know much tbh, but I do know they are influential)
Prong
Author & Punisher (don’t know much apart from it’s a one man band and he’s doing some unique stuff)
Nailbomb
Kidneythieves (more Industrial Rock than Metal but they are underrated imo)
C (decent tier)
Celldweller
Oomph (don’t know much tbh)
Stabbing Westward (more Industrial Rock than Metal though)
Front Line Assembly (don’t know much about this band tbh)
American Head Charge
Combichrist (don’t know much but they are very much on the Goth side of things)
Spineshank
Crossbreed
Ultraspank
3Teeth
Powerman 5000
D (shit tier)
Orgy
Deadsy
Videodrone
I agree that nin are not metal. can't wrap my head around that
Yesss! Skinny Puppy 🐶. Also Ministry
Where would Bile be on the list?
Ok, since I haven"t seen anybody touch them ever (and just for shits n' giggles).........where would you rank Sybreed?
Probably the most commented band I did not include actually. And honestly it has been a LONG time since I heard that name so I need to check them out again.
@@MetalTrenches Buckle up buddy, we're leaving earth
I'm suprised that turmion katilot isn't on the list.
Orgy ruined themselves after Vapor Transmission! Their first two albums were fantastic, sadly they tarnished themselves after their sophomore release! I would also have to agree with 3teeth being the best new industrial act in some time!
I saw them with Tool and Primus in Orlando years ago. They're really solid live.
No Atari Teenage Riot?
BOY BE SLEEPING ON AHC! Also The War Of Art wasn't the first album, it was they're second. They're first album is Trepanation from 1999
Nice ranking, agree with most of it.
there's a good Christian industrial metal band I saw live.. Klank. circle of dust are good also. You're lucky to have seen SYL. S tier.
Love me some Fear Factory
I don't know if you are interested in making a tier list of rise against albums that would be cool :)
There are only 4 albums. RATM and BFLA = S Tier. EE = A tier. Never heard the Covers album
Love Fear Factory. My favorite Industrial Metal band.
No Killing Joke? ouch
Ministry, NIN and Static X all underrated (the first two are the core of Industrial)
Skinny Puppy has how many "bangers" compared to Ministry?
i consider myself a hard core industrial fan since 1979 and no mention of KJ is sacrilege (with respect ;)
Rest of your list seems reasonable, i like the 3Teeth mention.
Don't get me wrong, you make sense. Sometimes ppl are just not exposed to everything.
And OMG yes on H&G- i had someone tell me he saw them blow Ministry off the stage - which after seeing both at least 3 times, i can believe.
🤘🏻
Agree about KMFDM , i think huge discography but there are many really weaker works, for Skinny Puppy i agree totally that they deserve S grade. I would also put Front Line Assembly in the top, even i am bigger fan of FLA than Skinny but there music is so different, and yes both bands are more electronic music than they are rock/metal thing.
I cant see Skiny puppy as industrial metal. It is maybe greatest industrial metal, my favorite for sure, but metal? How many not albums but songs which are riff governed. If we included them, With same right we must include Front Line Assembly. I think that this genre lacks commonly defined parametres what makes cwrtain song to belong to it. Otherwise, nice duscussion. My favorite is Fear Factory and big 4, With every right to belong there, are FF, Ministry, KMFDM and Godflesh. I think Sybreed deserves more recognition.
I don't want to overthink it. In the end this was just fun. That said Rabies and The Process in particular have some pretty metal moments.
@@MetalTrenches Not ovrrthinking, just thinking. And thinking can be fun too. Of course, not a big deal. 🤘
NIN not being in S tier and ministry being that high is a fucking war crime
If it were the year 2005 or so, they’d be S. But there’s been a lot of mediocre stuff since then
@@MetalTrenches it's like saying the Stones are not S tier because they haven't written anything in 40 years.
Industrial is timeless- it sounded futuristic then, it sounds futuristic now. A band should be measured by volume of great songs. It's not the NFL where it's average yard per carry- Some bands with low volume have great impact like the Pistols.
Would they be "B tier"? Personal taste is one thing. But historical impact does have an objectively weighted perspective.
Hey man. Would ya ever do a SOILWORK. Ranking
On my list
Youth Code is pretty solid for a modern industrial band
*I have to say it.* Deadsy and Dope are both underrated af imo, MT. Commencement is a *criminally underrated* masterpiece (I think). The same goes for Dope's first 3 albums and *The Early Years* compilation album. Are they the *best* industrial bands ever, definitely not. But I feel like the *DO NOT* get the credit they deserve (Dope is actually probably my 5th or 6th-favorite industrial-metal band ever), amigo! 🤘🤘🤘
No way I would've put MM above KMFDM. KMFDM had been putting out great, interesting work all through the 80s-90s with little mainstream backing while MM rode his huge NIN bump into obscurity. Were they hit-and-miss? Sure, but that's most industrial bands including even the legendary SP.
A&P's old stuff was pretty dull, but then everything after Melk en Honing including his most recent record I'd say puts him at least in A tier now.
Dedsey is considerded Industrial? Well if people call Static-X industrial i guess Dedsey can be lumped their. I still listen to "Key to Gremecy Park" every now and then.
I would of put powerman5000 in C
I would consider Mick Gordon to be in this list, at the S tier of course. Such s legend
Pitchshifter should be s tier!
3 teeth is an easy A tier for me
For me the last good album by nine inch nails was "year zero"
It's weird as much as I hate ministry I can't deny their influence
you should definetely listen to sybreed . A swiss industrial metal band . Unfortunately they disbanded :(
But those 4 albums that they have put out are great :)
I’m aware of the name. Not sure if I’ve ever checked them out though. Thanks
@@MetalTrenches no problem , im pretty sure youre gonna love them ;)
i miss Aborym in this list
By now I'm assuming you've discovered HORSKH
Hanzel und Gretyl absolutely, and Psyclon Nine
Die Krupps and Front 242 are 2 major Industrial bands you did not include, a lot of bands you mentioned would not even exist without them.
