    In this video I charge my ID.4 on a Tesla Supercharger. I review the charging speeds and cost to see if it is worth charging a Non-Tesla on a Supercharger on the regular or just for emergencies.

    I have been watching a lot of these vids lately, I really liked your details and data. Seems to be a consensus that the cables are a bit short, but the app and connector work well. Tesla definitely leads the way with their charging network especially with up time and reliability. It will be very interesting to see how this works when at scale.

    Great thanks for the heads up ☺️. I for one would love them to set up more. As it would give us more options. For now I have no need to use them. But since I am in Florida. There are some locations where the options are slim. And in an emergency it's welcomed.

    It is a really slick system. If Tesla were to implement it throughout their network it would be a major step towards EV adoption. It’s not clear they’ll ever do that. I am not counting on it.

    Video was helpful. They have so few CCS charging stations, at the end of the day this is pretty useless. For example I live on the west coast (Seattle) and I wasn't able to find a single charger in the entire state... let alone Oregon or California.

      Thanks for watching! As of right now there are 11 sites with magic docks. They are testing them in the real world, likely collecting data, before they roll them out more.
      When they roll out more they are likely to start in areas that have poor charging infrastructure! Not sure what their timeline is, but knowing Tesla they won’t scale it up until they feel confident with everything.

    Here in Las Vegas, most of the casino/hotels provide Tesla superchargers for FREE! They, of course, presumed you are going into the casino to GAMBLE and they will naturally be the big winners. I don't think most of them require any APP on your phone, you just plug your Tesla (or, with appropriate adapter) to their Tesla Superchargers and you get your charge up for FREE. (hey... at darn near 100% of all casinos in Las Vegas,.... DRINKS are FREE as long as they can see that you are making an honest effort to gamble at a slot machine or video poker or kino machine!)

    So if the tesla supercharger does not have a magic dock, can a non tesla charge there? Are there adapters to let non teslas use the superchargers?

    • @theaverageev
      @theaverageev  5 місяців тому +1

      That is a loaded question! Right now as of today non-Tesla vehicles can only charge at locations with the magic dock. Most major automakers have recently made deals with Tesla to gain access to the supercharger network. The first automaker to gain access is Ford and all existing ford owners will get an adapter that they can use to charge on the supercharger network. Then Tesla will gradually let more automakers on to their network. There are currently two companies that have created an adapter, but it is uncertain if they will work on the superchargers once each manufacturer is allowed onto the network. As of right now the understanding is that you will need to
      Get the adapter from your car’s manufacturer or from Tesla. We shall see if Tesla allows third party adapters!
      Hope that helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions!

    You do realise it was charging as fast as your car allows right at the start of the session? 365Vx350amps = 127kW which is ID.4 max charge rate. Just because the charger says it can do 350kW (or whatever) does not mean your car can.

    • @theaverageev
      @theaverageev  Рік тому +1

      I have an 2023 ID.4 Pro from Chattanooga. It has an updated battery and BMS. It can accept 500 amps and charge up to 180kWish (I've seen as high as 192kw). You can view my charging curve video.
      2021s charge at 125kW and 2022s charge at 135kW. Confusing I know, but I'm glad my car can accept 180kW.
      I am well aware that my car will never get 350kW. You can watch any number of my videos where I show my knowledge regarding this topic.
      In this video I also state that the charge is giving me all it can. Again because I saw with my OBDII that it was outputting 350 amps (Not kW). My car can accept up to 500 amps so the Tesla Charge is not outputting the full amount of amperage that my car can receive which should be 365Vx500amps=182.5kW. The Tesla chargers are limited for some reason as of right now. Might change over time.
