Great job, please do a video on just the scope. I would like to know more about it.
Burris is a very underrated manufacturer. Few people know they are owned by Berretta and are world class.
I bought one. It's AWESOME!
where are the scopes made or components come from?
@@keithprinn720 below $1000 they come from the Philippines. Above $1000 they are 100% US made
Totally agree about the feel of the stock, and also the full length ARCA rail would indeed be awesome!
Can an Area 419 Arca be installed?
I have the same rifle and installed the 4in Salmon River arca rail. Works great!
I also had the same exact issue with my b-14 Ridge in 7 rem mag with one Barnes load would stick so bad would have to Mortar it to get it out. Contacted bergara to have them polish the chamber and it’s flawless now!
That action is amazing!! it is as smooth as crushed gravel...... even with the ammo you liked....
Some people aren’t as sensitive to action smoothness as others. I am lol. My favorites are a Tikka and Xbolt. No coincidence that both have locking bolts and lower degree bolt lifts.
@@lubrew5862you must be joking he’s literally the chill, he’ll give anyone that pays him enough a good review 😂
That issue brings me back to 1995 when I couldn't extract the casings on my first rifle, Remington Model 700 Mountain Rifle 280 Rem. There was a tool gouge in the chamber the cases were expanding to fit. I had to send it back. That rifle is still the best all around I have ever owned. It is a shame the new Remington isn't making it anymore. It is also a shame Remington is no longer chambering 280 Rem.
I also had the rem mountain rifle in 280. Was a great gun, but accuracy went bad after years. I did buy it used. First rifle I bought. I tried to glass bead it. Did not help. I should have kept it and rebarrelled it. I got a 2506 long range rem terrible gun! Sent it back twice. Left terrible marks in brass and could not group 12" at 50 yards!! They ground the heck out of the cartridge area. Sold it. I also wish the 280 was common right now!! Great cartridge!! Dropped dear better than 7mm, 6.5 creed, and 270, I used nosler partition back than.
It seems The Bergara has a chamber imperfection-dang it shoots good though!
My dad got a Rem 700 mountain rifle in 280rem probably before I was born or right after. And It was a killer rifle. I watched him kill many deer with it as well as I took a few with it myself! Shot great, and still shoots great!
@@chevyon37s glad you still have it never sell it. If barrel goes on it get .280 Ai
A friend has this rifle in 6.5 PRC. He had problems getting the Hornady Match cases to eject. By his 6th shot he had to really work to get the bolt open. He switched over to precision hunter and Barnes Vor-tx Long Range and both of those ejected/cycled just fine. He sent 3 boxes of the Match ammo back to Hornady to test. The cartridges had dents from the extractor on each case. It’s odd to see this rifle with a similar issue. I haven’t really heard of this happening with Bergera previously.
Overall he loves the rifle. I was able to send some rounds down range and was impressed how smooth the trigger felt. The action felt very smooth and it was a pleasure to shoot.
I'm actually on a Reddit thread right now where the OP is talking about the same issue.
Turn the sling studs out of the forearm. Use the two tapped holes to attach the preferred attachment to this premium stock.
yeah I don't know why he didn't say that. That's what I did to mine, took 3 minutes and I installed a pic rail for my bipod....Bergara does that on purpose so that you have options(not everyone wants a rail with a bipod). Not sure why Jim calls this a disappointment....it's actually exactly the way it should be...
Thank you for making this video. Since April ive been drooling over videos of this rifle and later of videos of this scope and was dreaming of getting this very combo myself. Then boom you throw up a video with the exact dream combo of mine... Now I got to see it in action. Im even more confident this is gonna be my next hunting loadout. Though yea that jam issue was a little concerning but you were using the 300 win mag. Im probably going to go the .308 road. But ya thank you for doing this combo. Really enjoyed watching it
Nice gun ,seems like they cut the chamber to tight for a Sammi spec gun . Please keep us up to speed with the fix or solution you are going to do to improve the issue. Thanks love you videos
I have been very pleased with the performance of federal terminal ascents. Just a sample size of two so far since I went to it last year. In my rifle they shoot consistently around .75 moa at the range.
I love seeing all of the bagara rifles and your take on each one of them, where you have done extensive testing with your sig cross, I would love to see you expand on that with the born and raised longer barrel as a hunting rifle instead of a PRS. Thank you for all of the great videos and knowledge!
So, got my crest in 300 wm. Shoots nice, 1/2 moa easy. I did have that extraction issue and those rings around the brass with reloads. Was flawless with factory rounds. Tried three different factory ammo and all good. Didn’t like reloads. Factory terminal ascent, beautiful, .5 moa , cycled them smooth as butter. Might buy another in 7mm prc. It’s that good! I don’t need it, but want it!
how is your velocity with the shorter barrel? Considering this rifle too.
Bought the crest in 6.5 CM. No issues at all and is a tack driver!!!!!
I think some of these rifle manufacturers are cutting chambers to tighter tolerances these days, sometimes too tight. I had to send a Browning XBolt Speed .28 Nosler rifle back to Browning to have the chamber checked due to empty cartridges getting stuck. The rifle seems to function fine, now. I'm pretty hyped about the Veracity PH. What a great idea.
I was shooting an Oneida lever bow at a target 4 yards away in my apartment before watching this.
1200 yards... Thats amazing.
Also that extraction thing isn’t a problem at all in 308 it’s smooth as glass im very pleased with it
Good review and nice to mention the extraction issue. I’m not convinced about Bergara due to my experience with a B14 Hunter I had this past spring/summer (2023) in 30-06. That gun would not hold the 4 rounds in the magazine. One would always pop up and when I did get them in it would always jam and not feed. Accuracy was dismal. I’ve been hunting and shooting for 50yrs now and I’ve had close to 80 rifles. This rifle shot 1.75” to over 3” groups and one group at 4” using 12 different brands of ammo with bullet weights from 165gr, 175gr, 180gr and 190gr.
Emailed Bergara and never heard anything back from them.
I went back to the gun store I bought the gun from and showed the target and videos I took at the range with the clip of the feeding issue. They took the gun back at full credit. So I got a Tikka instead and have not had one issue with it.
Must’ve been a dud. I have the B-14 Hunter in 308. It’s my first bolt-action and my first trip to the range, a guy I set up next to let me try his 125 grain SST hand loads and I was putting rounds through the same hole at 100 yards.
The magazine is not meant to hold 4 bullets in 30 06, it holds 3 + 1 in chamber. First time ive heard someone get groups that bad with this rifle. Mine shoots almost everything sub MOA except the very low end ammo.
Just a heads up for reloaders. I've been seriously looking at the Bergara b14 lineup in a 7prc and in reading Bergara's user manual found online under their warranty is says the following:
and for those who'd desire to harass me for a specific reference from Bergara - its on page 32. Quote: "...below will also void the warranty:....use of impropper ammunition (e.g. ...reloaded ammunition, ...)."
Just something to be aware of if you reload, which I do.
Terminal Ascent ammo is awesome stuff. My Savage 30-06 loves it, and it dropped a 10-point like a sack of bricks last November.
I went to the Bergara Experience in Big Rapids Michigan a couple of weeks ago primarily to try out the new Divide before I bought one... shot it... liked it... but... when I shot it head-to-head with the Crest... well I left the event with a change of plan. I rang the 1,000-yard target 6 out of 6 with both rifles but the Crest grouped better and it just felt better.
Thank you for this comment. I’ve had plans to get the Divide since it was announced at Shot in 2022. That plan has been on hold due to it being unavailable for so long. Currently I am leaning more toward the Crest. Just waiting on more reviews on each one to make a final decision. I agree with Jim, both offerings need either ARCA or 1913 rail built into the carbon stock!
Salmon river solutions has an easy way to add arca and/picatinny. Their hunter rail is great
I love that rifle!! I have been considering getting the same rifle but now I'm a little apprehensive about it. Did you ever figure out what the issue was with not being able to open the chamber and clear the shell? I have always had a good experience with Hornady and always had not so good luck with Federal ammo.
The Terminal Ascent from Federal is phenomenal!. Groups extremely well in my Tikka T3 chambered in .270
You should look into Hawkins Long Range Hybrid rings, they're similar to the talleys with 25 MOA of cant built in.
Pretty impressed with that Burris. They have been stepping up their game the last few years.
It’s the safety actually lock the bolt. Awesome rifle. Thank you
That Terminal Ascent bullet has got to be the best hunting bullet ever made. Swift Sciroccos and ABLRs are right up there too but that TA just mushrooms perfectly every time and never comes apart.
I actually just watched a UA-cam video of a guy doing tests with it and it definitely came apart.
@@edstettin6799 what vid would that be? I find it hard to believe that the monolithic base could ever come apart. I’ve recorded 2 from moose and they are perfect mushrooms.
Recovered*
ua-cam.com/video/oNjfJvguxnQ/v-deo.htmlsi=Buokwm5UnEKqfPT1
5:57 in, it comes apart.
@@edstettin6799 thanks! Interesting too see. Pretty rare occurrence I’m sure though. Kinda shows why that solid core is so important so you’re still guaranteed an exit hole. Most hunting bullets on the market today will come apart every time or the solid coppers that frequently don’t expand at all. These are the results I see on real animals all the time.
You should hook up with bergara and get them to make a backfire edition of this rifle. Maybe a different color way of even a premium action in this stock.
My wife shoots federal terminal accent with her 6.5 creedmoor, been a great performer. She hasn’t taken any game at range but it stays together at close range, north woods of MN so we don’t usually shoot past 100 yards.
I wouldn't want a pic rail under that forestock; I like my rifles clean. The sling mount for a bipod is fine.
I had the same issue with extracting on my Bergara. It's the new Wilderness HMR Carbon 300WM. Same failure to extract that you are experiencing. Sent it back to Bergara last month, they suspect that its a bur in the chamber/undersized chamber. Actually it is out for delivery today so hopefully I'll have an answer to what was wrong when I receive it.
So what was wrong with it? You should know by now.
Hey Jim, love the channel. When are we going to see you review the cz600? It looks like a very appealing option at its price point.
Placed an order for the bagara B-14 Crest in 300 win mag and waited months and months and still did not get it.. turns out they didn't even have a production date yet according to Scheels...
Ended up getting a Seekins Precision Element in 300 win mag. Absolutely love the Seekins Precision but would be fun to get my hands on both.
I am looking at the Seekins PH2. Barrel length isn’t an issue as I won’t be putting a can on it and I’ll be shooting out west here where it’s wide open.
My dad has the Element (300 win mag) and I have a PH2 in 6.5cm and I am so happy with it! Smooth as silk and a tack driver! I know Jim says most guns don't shoot 5 shot groups in MOA but both ours do! I just shot a 7 shot group at 100 yds and it measured .83". 300 yards 5 shot group it measured 1.3" with factory Hornady Match 140gr. Not bad if you ask me!
I've shot 3 shot groups at 100 that were in the same hole. I measured it as best I could and got .17"
@@Matt-zn4zp element is a tad over my budget but at the same time I’m the oddball that does like a longer barrel too so the ph2 fills two checkboxes for me.
I think you'll really like the PH2! I won't trade mine!
@@Matt-zn4zp that’s what I want to hear lol
What rangefinder binoculars were you using in this video? Seems you acquired the range quickly and accurately! Thanks Bruce
I a Bergara fan and have a rifle from each of their lineups. I have set my sights on this Squared Crest and its one Im really excited about. I just wish Bergara would stop with the damn sling studs. I mean why is an Arca rail so hard for them; at the very least lets get some Mlock slots in there.
Good video, however, many western states don't allow electronic/ballistic calculating scopes for hunting.
There are laws that don't allow smart scopes with onboard processors. The Burris Veracity PH calculator is contained inside their mobile app. That's were all the computing happens. The data is transmitted from your phone to the scope via bluetooth. The scope just uses a simple lookup table, making it legal.
I have one in 6.5prc. Have only run about 25 shots so far. Was a little rough first few shots… bolt was hard to release after firing. The case wasn’t stuck in the chamber, the bolt was just real tight to crank back up. then everything loosened up and it’s super smooth. But I Also had issues cycling.. wouldn’t cycle a magazine. But the funny thing, it comes with a metal magazine to fit the longer prc cartridge.. a regular polymer 6.5 Creedmoor mag fits, and cycles a little bit shorter rounds flawlessly, such as federal fusion. But to run longer ones like the eldm or x, the metal mag is needed. But the cartridge was getting hung on the next cartridge when ejecting and wouldn’t clear the port. Then I was also having feed issues. I had to finesse the mag lips until it would eject and still feed. Can’t say much for accuracy yet. Initial break in thus far with hornady eldm hasn’t been impressive. I also have a terrain 6.5 Creedmoor I haven’t been able to get good groups with.
I like the sling studs because I can change to my choice of pic/arca rail
My Christensen arms Mesa FFT shot 5/8 inch at 100 with 200gr terminal ascent. Great ammo
Bought this is .308 last year and not the 6.5 prc because of the barrel length. Put a Leupold 4.5x14x40 on it and love it. This year bought the premier approach in 6.5 prc and put a Swarovski z3 on it and love the rifle so much. Man it's a toss up which one I love more...
My Bergara hmr premier had 2 threaded aluminum pillars cast into stock into which the 2 swivel studs were screwed...removed studs and mounted short pic rail inexisting pillars
That Burris is slick! Point-and-Click-Click-BOOM.
I consistent shoot .75 MOA with Federal Premium Terminal Ascent in my Bergara B14
thanks for all the information on your videos.we want see the new bergara b14 squared crest carbon.
I eagerly awaited the release of the PH, until I realized it has a bdc style reticle, that killed it for me, I will buy one when they release a true scale reticle for it.
I’ve been looking for a new hunting rifle and I think I’ve settled on that same setup except in 7PRC.
Burris Veracity PH is now on my optic short short list. If it is as good as you showed... That scope has made all other scopes obsolete
Have one only thing I don't like is at max magnification the eye relief is hard to focus
The option for carbon stock and carbon barrel would be nice. Not sure why they don’t offer that when they offer both options.
Been using a Burris eliminator for years kinda the same deal put in the dope aim push the scope range button follow the dot down the post and shoot.
Great video! Since you are based in Utah you should probably know that these scopes are illegal in Utah now. Check out page 47 in the regs. Thanks for not saying which range your at, it’s my local range!
Lol, still hating on the sling studs? I don't believe that every rifle needs Arca or tripod adapters.
I find the sling studs convenient especially with the Magpul Bipod QD. Fast to deploy with my Tikka T3x Veil Alpine, secure enough for 99% of applications.
That is sick!! I have the 200 grn terminal accent foe 300 win they shoot very well in my rifle as well. Lucky me i bought them when they were still 50 bucks a box.
Thanks
I'm on wait with my distributor for the Veracity PH. Burris makes primo stuff. I am very excited to get my hands on it.
Love the channel and your review was great today and perfect timing. I am looking for another scope. That shooting and dialing was awesome. That scope is now on my radar.
Thanks for sharing.
Great video. Now, would love to know your choice if you could only pick one, Begara Square Chest 7PRC or Wilderness Ridge Carbon 7 PRC. Decision made more for a hunter than a consistent long range shooter. Thanks for your help
Depends on what you want do more of.
If you want to hunt more and do a lot of hiking with a rifle, get the carbon. If you want to do a little more shooting and/or do less hiking with a rifle, get the squared crest.
The ridge carbon is geared a little more toward hunting and packing. The carbon barrel saves half a pound. Personally I’m looking at the carbon in 7PRC myself to use for hunting. Already have a terrain wilderness B14 in 6.5PRC that shoots great but it’s a heavy bastard.
Try out Blaser r8 or r93!
I have the hmr Carbon wilderness and absolutely love it
I started shooting the veracity PH this spring. It is amazing and dead on, once you get the settings right. I have been shooting the terminal ascents for two years now when i could find them. They group better and more importantly, have better on game performance than anything out there.
Just curious I have a Bergara in 300 PRC
With the veracity pH scope
What’s the maximum range you can dial your scope out to?
Nice rifle. I wish they would have offered it in 300 PRC instead of 300 WM though.
Love watching those impacts, Nice Work 👍🏻👊🏻
The scope stole the show.
I got the 6.5prc waypoint carbon 24”….had bergara in my sights but liked the waypoint from start and had to try 1…which one you like better?
Had my hands on a Quest late last year.
Great feeling rifles, but not a “lightweight rifle” with the barrel contour. Light considering the bulk of the stock.
Would absolutely buy one if they were in Carbon barrel.
My local shop.says the new burris scope is worth it!
Hello big time fan I noticed in the last scene the bullet didn’t come out did a jam again? I noticed that Watched it 2 times it did jam
Good stuff Jim! That scope is pretty neat too.
I love Bergara’s stocks
For Tripod Mount - ARCA rail by SHINEWEE M80-L (Size - 3.15 x 1.5 x 0.3). Very Inexpensive…. Works very we'll on my BOG POD
Would like a Montana Rifle Co Junction action in this rifle. Adaptive Control Feed. Check the Element Scopes
😑
This is a little unrelated but I’d love to see a “If I Had To Choose One” video. By that I don’t mean what is your favorite rifle or rifle with the most sentimental value. You could still have your other guns, I mean just one bolt action. I literally mean in the most objective manner, if you had to choose one bolt action rifle that you had to use for the rest of your life for literally everything bolt action related - what would you pick and why? Justify your reasons for model, caliber, action, scope, etc. I realize opinions can change over time but literally right now what would you pick?
That isn't a tight chamber, that's pressure. That ring is a start to a case head separation. Feel the inside with a straight paper clip or cut one in half.
Great stuff! Would you say it's worth taking the next step up and buying the premier divide?
Very cool !!! I like the rifle and am very impressed with the scope.
nice shooting!
How does that scope do in low light? I thought my Burris Eliminator was awesome until I realized I was giving up 40 minutes at the end of the day.
Harris bipod primary arms fox 3-18 Athena and it’s perfect
Bergara B14 crest vs Springfield 2020!! Battle royal, which comes out on top?
I've never had an issue with my rifle. But the cheap, pos plastic magazine costs me a nice whitetail buck the first time I used the rifle on a hunt. I ended up buying a steel mag for $100.
Great, now I gotta drop 2900 on a new setup. The Burris scope seems amazing
Talk about pampered, hunting rifles don’t need an ARCA rail! This rifle is perfect as is, once the extraction issue gets resolved.
$1,700 is what you consider a Mid Priced rifle?
Hey, nineteen
No, we got nothin' common
No, we can't dance together
No, we can't talk at all
Please take me along when you slide on down
Haha - Love me some SD!
Any chance you're going to get a hold of an Aero Precision Solus any time soon? You're the only one I really trust for reviews.
The US Military has been using Harris Bipods on Sniper Weapon Systems for a long long time in combat and making extreme long range kills for many decades.
I’m wondering whether you prefer the Bergara Crest or Springfield Waypoint in 6.5CM for mountain hunting.
Agree! Which is better in your opinion? Looking at a .308 myself. The adjustable check on the Waypoint is pulling me there…
@@SuperBee039 I ended up buying the Waypoint and it’s awesome. It shoots range + premium factory ammo💯I saved weight by not getting the adjustable stock. Love it.
That’s awesome! Thanks for the reply! I’m considering a carbo barrel to cut some weight as well.
@@SuperBee039 do it. The carbon barrel is a huge upgrade from the #2 fluted pencil barrel I used to have.
Absolutely love my crest in 6.5 cm. Tack driver!
I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for not picking another 6.5 creedmoor
I've been hearing more and more about Bergara having significant QC issues as of late, and this kind of gives credence to those rumblings. I even noticed some HMRs at shops with significant burrs on the end of the barrel and no crowning. Hopefully they can sort themselves out before they go full Remington.
Looks like a cool gun but looks like you kept cutting out the ejection. Issues on every round when you shot the targets?
nice, I randomly have the same combo, just in 6.5prc
You have me really looking at the Burris.
Hello Jim and everyone... I NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!
I want to buy a 7 PRC and I am having a hard time deciding between the HMR Carbon and the Squared crest. it will mostly be used as a hunting rifle and I do not think the 0.9 pound weight difference will make a difference in my decision. But it's the barrels that I do not know... Is the carbon more accurate or the fluted metal? PLEASE HELP!!! Also I will most likely add a can if that makes a difference in the barrel decision. Thanks ahead for your input.
Brother this was like watching a kid under the Christmas tree unboxing gifts - every impact and your enthusiasm made me smile and laugh. Truly unbelievable accuracy. Thank you for a great review. 🙏
I used those ear pro at work. The plastic headband breaks on all of them.
Any update on this rifle want to get it in 7mm prc
Meanwhile, me ordering a 2nd steyr M95 and Yugo Mauser
I killed 2 deer with the terminal accent this year in .308 and it done great out of my SFAR with a 16 inch barrel
You should do and electronic ear pro comparison video.
Guess the sling studs worked fine with the bipod.
Excellent video and review but I have to wonder if any misses were edited out of the video?
I played with the hr or her version this weekend an it was super heavy
