For anyone wanting to know a bit more about why the O's are justified. The Yankees had hit the O's 10 times in 8 Games (10 out of 10 now). That's 1.25 times a game. Comparatively, the Yankees have hit the rest of the league 52 times in 88 ganes for an average of roughly 0.591 HBP per game. Non-transferable and you usually only have 2 or 3 players for that position as opposed to 6 specialists, and 30-40 relatively easy swaps or subs for any other position.
Even in the most clownshoes of Hockey games I've seen where literally every 5-10m was a bench clearing explosion of gear and people pairing off to beat the snot out of each other, the 2 people doing nothing but listlessly skating around their creases were the goalies. Something like 300-400m of total penalties in one game (later increased to about 500 from a longer suspension by the league due to a headbut after refs were involved), and none of them went to the goalies.

It was awesome man - as tense as it got every-time they played. This isnt it yet. Need some playoff sweeps or late inning walkoff season ending drama for the next year or two to get that simmering pot is going to blow/ past wounds feeling. Has potential for sure! The thing though is theres just no one as hatable as AROD was at the time on either team. I like him now (hes come a along long way [ironically its Jeter who is the POS]), but 2003-2004 EVERYONE hated AROD and he just loved the attention so it just compounded it. At the time there was a shirt worn all over Boston that listed all of the yankees players on the back followed by suck, except for AROD:
Mariano Rivera... sucks
Hideki Matsui... sucks
Derek Jeter... sucks
and A-Rod blows!
Literally everyone wore this shirt. Lke even Elementary school kids.

Same same. This was the first breakdown where I had an emotional stake as a fan - and Jomboy executes it gracefully because he’s one of the all time greats.
The only thing he missed that I noticed was the Yankees hitting coach waving Hyde over, like 'come over here and say that to our face.' It helps explain why Hyde went over there.
I totally agree. It’s really easy to be a homer for you team. Especially in a situation like this where no one actually thinks it was intentional it would be easy to do a breakdown about how the Os overreacted. Instead he stays unbiased and looks at it from a why are the Os pissed. Including the reaction from Cole was good too.
Same here. I’m a lifelong Oriole fan and Jomboy’s take here made me appreciate his great videos even more.

It is true that the Yankees have been hitting a lot of players, but it seems extra with the Orioles. 10 times for the Orioles, 52 times for the other 28 teams.

The way this recap moves from a deep dive on physics and stats into the raw flow of human emotion is a masterclass. Well done!

The moment we've all been waiting for
I dunno, if you just hit a player in the head, maybe just stfu and back off. Also, yeah maybe a manager does get to say fu to a pitcher that just hit someone in the head.
Yup. Even if it's a clear accident, you threw the ball high and in with a slippery ball, and it ended up giving the batter a concussion. You're the one who put the batter at risk. You don't have the high ground after that.
@@heyheyhey33351 no one in baseball is ever willing to say "sheeit my bad". AND no one is willing to throw punches either. Weird tradition of cowardice
@nuckels188 Yeah, it's weird. HBPs have ballooned to about 2,000 in a season, yet if you look up compilations of pitchers apologizing for hitting the batter, the videos are only about 3:00-4:00 minutes long. And those videos usually cover multiple seasons.
@@nuckels188 To be fair if the goal is to avoid concussions or accidental death its probably best a bunch of non-professional fighters keep not throwing punches.
@@ClearmediumIdk, this basically is the function of fighting in hockey. Hockey could be an insanely dangerous sport, given the impact speeds. Fighting acts as a valve to ensure teams back off before things get too far out of hand.

The Yankees are so great at playing the villain. lol. They just steer into it and embrace it at this point.
Putting a guy on the injured list for 7 days and then getting offended by "f--- you"... smh
That why they get their asskicked in the playoffs
@@johnsmith-gq5jw Yeah, it's pretty wild. They have to know how many times they've hit O's batters this year. Every manager in baseball would be out there defending their guys in that situation. Chirping from the dugout as the guy who just got domed by a 97 mph heater is being helped off the field is insane to me. Gerrit Cole is the only person associated with the Yankees to take any accountability for his teams actions, and he's not even the pitcher hitting anybody.
Don't worry, their pampered players will stub their toe and go on 60 IL before the playoffs. Karma always catches the Yanks.
they arent playing, they are POS for real.
Look, when you f up, and someone says f you, you need to be man enough to nod your head, shut up, and move on. I don't know why the pitcher or Yankees dugout was telling him he couldn't say F you, he just got hit in the head by a 90+ pitch! They have every right to be mad, and then move on
Saying f you to someone and the whole team when it was clearly an accident is just as childish. Both sides are in the wrong imo. Started a fight over nothing per usual.

The yankies have hit so many damn people this season its unreal. The MLB needs to start fining pitchers for hitting batters, it would make it so much safer for the batters and keep these games from metagaming the sport and hitting key players.
Either that or increase the automatic base count. Instead of one base, allow two or three. Putting bhp in scoring position will surely get attention.
I think MLB should award second base to anyone hbp.

That means the Os are being hit roughly 112% more than the rest of the league by the Yankees (5.3 HBP more than the expected 4.7).
I'd be pretty pissed too if it seems like we were being targetted by the Yankees.
Edit: and before people come on tell me that the pitch slipped, that's not the point. It's not about why the HBP happened, it's about the fact that it keeps happening by the Yankees.
