TBS Tracer Range Test - Better than ImmersionRC Ghost?

    TBS Tracer bit.ly/2VXt6DC is a brand new RC radio system that is advertised as "to the moon!". Moon is far, so it suggests a long range. Let's do the standardized walking range test on the same course I used to test ImmersionRC Ghost and FlySky FRM302. And answer the question: Tracer vs. Ghost, which one is better? Today only in terms of range!

    Yes, really interested to see how Accst R9 compares to all these new protocols.

    • @MrEidroeg
      @MrEidroeg 3 роки тому +4

      Kind of irrelevant. The point of these new systems are that they run on 2.4ghz. if you want a comparison to the r9, then crossfire is what you should be looking for. Both on 900mhz.

      @shocking reality exactly my point. I'm happy with R9 but wondered if there was any real advantage to buying one of these new 2.4 systems aside from less latency which I'm not too bothered about for long range purposes. 👍

    • @grahamdowns7055
      @grahamdowns7055 3 роки тому +1

      @shocking reality totally agree. I've had no issues with R9 accst on flex so far. I think I'm going to buy another accst module as back up as they are so cheap now 👍

      @shocking reality yes I read about that too, but I think telemetry is limited? Further reading needed on that for me. Can't beat my R9 and Slim+ at the moment though, it just works.

    One great plus for TBS Tracer/Crossfire is that they use the same CRSF protocol, so in theory you can wire it to the exact same UART and connect the voltage to a small SPDT switch and toggle between Tracer/Crossfire depending on how far you intend to fly or whether you're in an area with bad RF interference at a certain frequency.

    Is the RX side diversity mandatory? Is there a setting to allow single antenna use? Diversity is all fine on a long range quad but having to mount an extra antenna for freestyle or racing is a downside to me, even if it's a smaller antenna. It's also one extra thing that can break.

    The range testing is just pandering for views. You nailed the whole idea of the Tracer at the end of the test. It's a Radio thats not supposed to compete with the crossfire, but suppose to cemet TBS foothold in nearly all aspects of control link. Crossfire has range and penetration tracer locks down everything the crossfire can not, in terms of MGP racing. The ghost is trying to be a little more of a jack of all trades radio. Before tracer popped, I was gonna buy a ghost to compliment my crossfire and take care of what my crsf cant, racing. Well, racing with a bunch of people on crsf. Tracer dropped, and I have absolutely no reason to go ghost anymore. A crsf and tracer will complete my needs.

    I had a failsafe 500 m away and I was over bushes and lost my quad because it’s gone into thick scrub that made it impossible to get. Just had another fail safe probably 200 m away. Not really that impressed with the clean that it can go up to 25 km but yet I’m having fail saves at least the one. They have been trees and bushes in the way but surely for something rated for 25 km wouldn’t have an issue with those at sub 1K

    How is humidity affecting 2.4 ? From what I know its significant and on the day from this video it really looks humid.

    • @sjeses
      @sjeses 3 роки тому

      2.4 is the frequency that water resonates/absorbs energy at, so there will be more loss over distance than with a different frequency. I'm doubtful that this can be circumvented by clever "chirping" of the signal.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell 3 роки тому +10

      The humidity in the air has totally negligible effect unless you are doing like a satellite link. I say this as a guy who has designed kilometers long microwave links. The path loss for rain is tiny fractions of a dB per km. For humidity it isn't even measured.
