How Ford & Land Rover Built Crazy, Cool Cars - TST Podcast

- Опубліковано 1 лип 2024
- How did Ford build the GT in 18 months? Why did they create a new truck segment with the Raptor, and how has that thinking bled over to Land Rover? Jamal Hameedi is the answer.
He is the Director of Special Vehicle Operations at Jaguar Land Rover and the reason Land Rover is debuting the fastest and most exciting Defender to date: the Octa. Before he joined JLR, he was the Chief Performance Engineer and head of SVT at Ford. It was under his eye that Ford made both generations of the Ford GT, decided to build the first Raptor, and launched numerous Shelby Mustangs.

Enjoying my gt350 every day because of him. Great stuff.
Love my 2018 too. It's more special to me than my old E46 M3, B7 RS4, and F80 M3. Someone is gonna have to pry my GT350 out of my cold dead hands.
Matt should’ve asked for Doug. Do you have doors? 😂
Would have been hilarious like two years ago
Best interview yet. 3 incredibly knowledgeable car guys . Thanks Zack and Matt for your hard work and keeping all of us interested in our automotive passion.
1:08:00 Lotus Emira!!! mercedes 4cyl and toyota v6
even before, but narrowing down to top of line engine from an outsider don't know another one
23:10 - For those that don't remember : The Ford GT was an interesting animal as far as how it sold toward the end of it's run.
I remember two of them showing up at Kenny Ross Ford on Route 88 in Pittsburgh after around 2006. The dealer put them out proudly in the front by the road for everybody to see (and absolutely to get people to impulse buy them!). But then they sat... and sat... and sat some more. Kenny Ross ended up putting money on the hood to get them to move (I wanna say they got them down like 100k before they then vanished from the front of the dealership... I also stopped when I could and checked the prices lol).
Whoever picked those Kenny Ross GT's up back in the mid-2000's... boy did you make your money back!
Fordite Arcanaut and Blue Sky-Dweller 👍
Who knew that Ray Romano helped to build the Ford GT

That GR is Beautiful, shame Ford didn't get on board with that one!
Love Jamal, great engineer.
I miss the Crown Vic. I wish there an equivalent tough, reliable car made by any auto manufacturer today.
So, in reference to the SVT Contour at 1:14:45, the car needed more power, suspension tunability, and a better differential. I have a 2000 SVT, with a 3L Taurus Duratec V6, Mfactory LSD, custom rear control arms to add more rear camber, and cut out the tops of the strut towers to weld in a plate to accept 240SX camber/caster plates. Those were the 3 things that made the biggest difference in the car.
It’s about time you did an interview old friend, Coop
Very cool podcast, fans of all GT, Raptors and Defender; the new Octa looks awesome!
Great show!
Great conversation
Cue to 2:40 and listen for that sweet engine note in the background. Volume up 🤘🏻
R8/Huracan V10?
Great guest, very interesting discussion.
I can't wait for the day that real gauges are a premium, luxury car benefit, and then those cars depreciate to the point that I can actually afford one. Real gauges FTW. Screens just, suck. Cheers Matt and Zach. Jamal, you're a lovely fellow and I'm glad you're out there getting cool cars out to the peeps. Thanks!
Prime time EST viewing!
Mat who is your best friend from yt? Every time i watch a yt video about cars, the next autoplay video is a podcast from you guys 😅 gj man keep it up
Supra, 4 toyota cylinder...bmw 6 cylinder
Nope, the 4-cylinder is BMW's B48
This guy rules! 🤟
Been waiting to hear this
Thank you for getting back to a more family friendly show. I know that’s not your thing. But your show is one of the few I can play w/ my kids in the car. Johnny Liberman shows are more appropriate than the past few 😂
1:08:20 Lotus comes with engines from two manufacturer : toyota and AMG, but narrowing down to top of line engine from an outsider don't know
Where does LR convo start?
36 mins but the ford discussion is worth listening to
Lotus Emira has 2 engine options from 2 different manufacturers - but neither engine is actually "theirs" 😂
do you know any other car with the big engine comes from another manufacturer ? i remember the rover sd1, or the opel/lotus carlton
We want that big Diesel Defender with 33 mpg… not that mild hybrid bs getting 24…
20:00 thing about the table. Is asking like that considered as unpolite in english language?
MATT & ZACK, please put down a rubber acustic mat in front of the mic. We used to fit a thin mat in generator-rooms on Superyachts that will cut out the booming. Doug M has the same problem with his table and he has Italians!!!! 😃
How do you get a silverado to run on natural gas? "You tear out all the fuel injection components and replace them with natural gas ones". Ok thanks.
Did you ask him why they went through the trouble to put a legit looking fake subwoofer in the back of the Bronco without the option? I wonder how many people are driving around thinking they have a subwoofer back there. 😂
Wash U!!
One day later, could've grilled him on the recall for ENGINE FIRES! 😂
Land Rover has the worst note on reliability studies in almost every country in the UE.Their cars broke so much that make an Alfa Romeo 159 a magnificent product(well, maybe I'm a bit hursh)😂😂😂
Toyota Supra
Is that a comb over or a toupee?
WHY NO 3RD GEN LIGHTNING? broke my heart when he said "hey guys, we're doing an offroad truck:".
Not me over here knowing you guys were uploading late, somehow forgetting about time zones, and then getting mad about no upload.
We announced it on IG.
That's a you problem buddy
@@TheSmokingTirePodcast Oh yeah I know, I just “zoned” out and thought it was 4 EST. I’ll watch twice to atone. 🙌🏻
@@thedarkenergistthat pun was atonement enough 👏

wtf is up with the table?
Jaguar is so lost this decade… in 5 years when their EVs flop, they’ll get back to their roots. Elon took down another one 😢
I don't know what the hell he's talking about regarding farmers buying raptors. Let's please not call these anything but what they are, a performance-oriented novelty. How many M5 owners are going on the track? These are usually driven by well to do contractors
Farmers have deep pockets and they don't have time to be upgrading a regular truck for what they need. This truck came straight from factory to tackle some of the needs they encounter for everyday use. Central California is huge on farming and sometimes you are 5 - 10 miles deep into off-road terrains. Regular trucks can't do well on high speeds and I've seen plenty get stuck on mud during rain seasons. Shoot, I've even seen Raptors pull out tractors, just because it was labeled a performance truck doesn't mean it can't be used for daily work when they clearly can get the job done.
It might be a novelty to you and others, but for farmers, it became an off the shelf tool. And no, I’m not saying all farmers should use one, but the ones who bought one, truly took advantage of its capabilities.
@@alex199273 those folks buy a fx4.
I could just picture the amount of excitement it is at a board meeting with this fella
Interesting topics but Mr. Monotone for sure....He is impressed by passion.
Boring topic
It might be more of a topic for the car margin show but I would love a show of the worst motors and why they blow up specially modern-day motors lot of my horrible bad engineering
I would love to ask this fella why people with 6 l diesel Ford pickup trucks got screwed not once but twice when their motors blow up that left a very bad taste a very very very very very bad taste in my mouth not a cheap fix and after the second time the head gasket blew I had to sell the truck when the motor gets wet twice its junk
