I love this mix and I love you made this video. I'm with you hahaha, I love the Sennelier mix you've got and also the version with PY 129... But also the Schmincke one... Funny how many ways we got to create this special hue I love so much! I also like the Rosa Gallery mix: PY 151 + PY 42 + PR 264. Have a nice week!
Thanks for another great and educational video! I'm still new to watercolor and I never thought it would even be possible to mix a quin gold imitation color, I like all the mixes! I remember from a former video that you have a background in finances I believe, but I always thought you had been a teacher because you pass on info so systematically and effortless. I really enjoy your videos 😊🌼
Hi Anja, you have a great observation spirit! I studied finance in college, but I worked in marketing and advertising my whole life. I am also a contract professor in college where I teach media and marketing! I love teaching! Thanks a lot for your very kind message. I wish you all the best in your watercolour journey ❤️
I think they are all lovely in a way. I love the PY129 + PR122 mix, even though it's a bit too dark. Great video, I will need to play around with my paints to see what I can come up with
I like to use Schmincke’s Transparent Green Gold + their PO71. I use the Schmincke Akademi Orange PO71. It’s not exactly a quin gold hue, but it does mix stunning earthy cookies. I “discovered” it only a few days ago. Originally, I wanted to use PY129, but I don’t have that, so I used Transparent Green Gold.
I like the name "Quinacridone Bronze" of Harding. Since all of these are hues they ought to be called Quinacridone Brass since brass is an imitation of gold.😂 The PY129+PR122 is stunning in its own way.
Great video Elisabetta! Very creative and interesting mixes. I really like the greenish yellow at 13:11 of the video. I couldn’t quite make out the name of the color, can you help me out? Is it Azo greenish yellow?
Hi Morrison! First of all thank you for your always kind words. You can find the exact products I have swatched in the info box below, but yes you’re right, it’s a complicated name…it’s Azomethine Green Yellow by Rembrandt. You have to look for pigment PY129. The Daniel Smith version is called Rich Green Gold www.jacksonsart.com/daniel-smith-watercolour-paint-15ml-rich-green-gold-series-2?___store=jacksonsart_us&acc=6e5025ccc7d638ae4e724da8938450a6 Watch out that DS Green Gold (not the Rich one) is different and it’s a multipigment colour. It’s a beautiful colour I will soon (😂maybe not so soon I’ve been busy lately!) make a video about PY129! It’s great for glazing and for mixing. Take care! And thanks for your comment.
Thank you so much for doing this. It makes sense that PY129 does a great job. I heard it was a great mix with quin rose to mimicking PO48 Quin burnt orange and I agree with that. I've heard that White nights quin gold hue is similar to the original and they use PR101 and PY150. But I do wonder if they use a different hue of PR101 since there are so many.
Thank you Paulina for your interest and for being an active follower! It was a lot of fun and I encourage you to play with colours to find the perfect hue that works for you! Let me know!
Unfortunately none of the hues make the exquisite greens that PO49 makes. All of my original tubes of PO49 are packaged airtight and all have remained soft. I wish they never discontinued that pigment. Nice video, and we all make mistakes. I've already picked up a loose pan to paint a large area, only to be sooo disappointed that I grabbed the wrong pan. Lol
I haven’t tried (or seen in real life) the discontinued PO49 but I have the Daniel Smith quin gold hue (PO48 plus PY150). So the other day I was attempting to make my own swatches of quin gold. The one I liked the most was PO48 plus PY129. However, I have no idea if this is anything like the original PO49! 😊
Green gold?!? Hmmmm…..🤔😁. Going to go play…unfortunately, my “magic” yellow is pretty dull..BUT, MAYBE mixed with PO48? Maybe a tiny touch of PY150? I actually like some of those mixes more than your PO49 dried. But, how do they do in mixes…ok, I know what I’m going to play with tonight! 😂
@@WatercolorElisabetta Oh, please do not credit me for that. Many others have come up with that mix. I think even handprint mentions it, but not sure. Tomorrow is world pigment day so I shall spend it mixing quin gold hues.
My current W&N palette has a PR206 Permanent Alizarin Crimson (last tube at my art shop), a couple of PV 19s and a transparent yellow that's PY150. I'm giving your mixing a go. I have some perylene maroon to get used to the new mix of transparent gold. Maybe over time I'll use more PR179 and less PR206 !
If you look at the pigments for Winsor and Newton Quinacridone Gold, you will find on their old tubes, PR206, PY150 and PV15 listed. W&N are replacing PR206 with PR179 but changing the name because they can't get an exact match now that PR206 is discontinued. The new name is Transparent Gold I think. I just looked up my pigment lists for pure single pigment colours! Quantities to be guessed at ... and of course we can only guess at the treatments the paint manufacturer uses for each one, and the binders etc. !
I’m lucky enough to still have a batch of the original dry pigment 😊
This is what I call lucky 🍀! 😊

Hahahaha I feel less lonely in my clumsiness 🤩. Yes, I agree, none of this mixes makes a perfect replacement!
I would say I liked the PY129 + PR101 Burnt Sienna, but also I do wonder what might happen if you did PY129 + PR209 + PV19!
