Same!! I vividly, vividly remember this music video. And I remember it freaked me the F out… Something about that mask, and the way he moved, and the settings he was in, it was all uncanny valley territory for me as a kid. I found it very eerie and unsettling for some reason.
I remember seeing this on television. Today it occurred to me look this up. My generation had good quality television programming. I miss those good days from my youth. The music video is well done because 3.14159 is close enough to pi.
I knew this song by heart, even though I was too young to understand wtf they were actually talking about. Man, this is exactly as I remember it. That mask creeped me out though :)
They need to release a Best of Quare One CD with the best musical performances on it. "Angle Dance", "Nine, Nine, Nine", "Tessellations" etc and of course the theme song. This tune is awesome.
I remember this song from Square One TV back in the 80’s on PBS, channel 9. Occasionally it gets stuck in my head and have to listen to it or it’ll drive me crazy!
Fun fact that won’t be mentioned in a kids show: When Archimedes found out how to weigh gold, he was taking a bath. He ran around screaming Eureka naked through the city.
He solved the problems of his day, Usin' math in amazing ways! His great work lives on today: Ahhhh chi me des! Yeah, yeah, ahhh chi me des! (Aow!) I said Ahhhh chi me des! Ahhhh chi me des! Archimedes, girl! Ahhhh chi me des! (Yeah yeah yeah!) Ahhhh chi me des! (Ooooh!) Ahhhh chi me des! (Mmmmm, mmmm, mmmm!) Ahhhh chi me des! Ahhhh chi me des!, etc.
You know what? Usually I would find something like this disturbing or frightening, but I remember being in awe of the visual quality of this particular video. It's still one of my faves. :)
This is another example of a song i heard, one time only, never saw or heard any clue about it whatsoever, and i was so young at the time that i began to think i imagined it 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅 #youtubeISstillusefullol
This song is great musically, and the lyrics are wonderful- they're like something They Might Be Giants would write. But when I first saw this (pretty much exactly 20 years ago), that mask truly disturbed me. It haunted a dream of mine once. Except in the dream, they were singing "grinning Archimees," (that's actually how they pronounced it) to the tune of 9 to 5. My mind has sure produced some odd dreams.
I totally remember this! The tune is quite catchy and I used to sing it at school. But I got laughed at and my brother said me singing that embarassed him.
what was the music video on probability where it all took place inside a haunted House Motif. It was a cool song and a creepy vid, but I can't remember the name, or where I can find it.
Finding an entire community of people haunted by this song for DECADES is maybe the internet’s greatest bounty.
I still get this song stuck in my heads 20 years later LOL
This and the palindrome song...
Mine is this one and the tessellation song 😆
Now almost 30 years later. Me too!
Me too, especially with the new Indiana Jones movie
I thought I was the only one #family
Yup, literally decades later and I'm still singing this
I was a SOTV addict as a kid. This is one show that PBS really needs to bring back!
But don;t screw it up like they screwed up The Electric Company.
The look of that mask and the Archimedes riff has stuck in my head since my childhood! This is exactly what I remember!

That mask scared the heck out of me as a child. I love the song thought.
+FuzzyChick27 you and me both.
FuzzyChick27 I know right
It screwed us all up
This is amazing. I've carried this song in my head with me since I was a kid, just sort of assuming i'd never hear it again. Magic of youtube i guess.
Thank God, I can prove this existed and I'm not nuts!

He really was remarkable for a man who lived in ancient times!
I was never more simultaneously fascinated and creeped the fuck out than while jamming to this tune as a kid.
I haven't heard this song in over 20 years, but still hum it to myself at least once a week.
OMG! Here it is! I still find myself singing this song so many years later.
Beverly Mickins NAILED the vocals on this and to this day, still sounds fresh!
For over thirty years I've had that guitar riff stuck in my head, randomly looked it up and it's exactly as I remember it.
I missed this one as a kid. Glad my hubby introduced me to square one tv!
There was a time Square One TV was spoofing MTV. This single sunged by Beverly its very good!
It's a very catchy song that I remember fondly. How I sometimes miss the days of my youth. :(
I can never hear the name Arcihmedes without this song popping into my head every time.
My FAVORITE of all the Square One songs.
A great tribute for the frist scientist of modern world 🙏🙏👌👍👍💖💖
I used to love this show.

we watched this in S.S and every one just randomly start singing it now
thanks Mr.Brand
Arrrchimeedees. Wow, I remember this catchy song and thinking what a brilliant guy Archimedes was.
I still love this song!
I'm loving this song!!
This way my jam as a kid! Loved it
This song was stuck in my head when I was young.
Man this stuck in my head - this was from the day when kids shows were good!
It has been over 13 years since I have seen this show.
The greatest mathematician of all time.
I always loved this song! I remember hearing when i was young. My childhood how I miss it so :)
I remember this one was better than all the rest
The mask scared tf out of me as a kid
I’m nearly forty now.. but I’m also jamming out in my kitchen to this song from my childhood! 😝
I thought I was the only one who remembered this show.
They need more shows that these
This was the best video
this is on a list of Square one TV songs under Less than Zero!!

this scared the crap out of me when i was a kid

I can definitely see They Might Be Giant’s playing this! It reminds me of The Statue Got Me High.
awsome
I totally remember this! The tune is quite catchy and I used to sing it at school. But I got laughed at and my brother said me singing that embarassed him.
I love this song and always did as a kid, but that Archimedes mask is all kinds of creepy.
I found it!!
4th grade memories!
Dear god, I can still sing this! Sad that there isn't TV like this for kids anymore.
Thanks for sharing. Do you happen to have any Mathnet?
I wish I had that mask!! I could use that for Halloween!!
Archimedes was famous for his birthday suits.
Pardon me for an observation that's a little beside the point, but this woman has an _incredible singing_ voice.
very well written. what do they have today to teach kids without dumbing it down? Elmo? Please
When I was 8, I thought this was the shit. I had no idea that I was learning stuff.
Does anyone have the video of the band The Jets on this show??... they did a song about infinity...
Archimedes: Genius in mathematics, but stupid in death.
1988 huh? Thought it was from 1990.
Anyone else hear the melody for The Stroke in this song?
what was the music video on probability where it all took place inside a haunted House Motif. It was a cool song and a creepy vid, but I can't remember the name, or where I can find it.
11 years late, but I believe it was called Ghost Of A Chance
And I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who was creeped out by the mask. I think it was the black, vacant eyesockets that did it.
tabs plz
Buster Scruggs approves.
it's square one,not quare one besides a cd of square one tv songs is not happening.
Remember when government funding and tax dollars for public programming actually used to go for real educational things like this show?
it's square one,not quare one & besides a cd release is not happening.
I hated this song as a kid. So why is it stuck in my head today?
"I got too many notes to write for you. I'll spray it like graffiti...The hand that feeds is writin' like Archimedes..."~Don Drāno
Haha, that does sound disturbing. All it needs is Dolly Parton wearing the mask.
Putting it on a black guy made it stranger too. Used to scare the shit out of me when it rotated at the end
Disturbing as hell.
Seeing this again as an adult makes me cringe so bad
sometimes i coat myself in oil and pretend to be a slug.
