Hello everyone... this is the "lead" lip syncing girl in the video all grown up...LOL!. To answer some questions, yes it was freezing that day at Jones Beach NY. The director was Ken Walz.. Ken cast us through our dance teacher in NJ. All us girls are still close friends (on Facebook mostly). No I don't think we knew what a tesselation was untill Ken rehersed the scenes with us that day! LOL The main guys were, Larrym, Reggie and Peter. Thanks for loving our video.
I responded to your comment years ago, that I recognized Larry Cedar, in the blue shirt and colorful swim trunks, who was flirting with you, towards the end. Also, I recognized Reg E Cathey (RIP), in the yellow hoodie, as Reg and Larry were SQ1 Regulars. And you mentioned the other guy's name was Peter (The only one wearing socks, in your quartet, as evidenced when they did the close-up of your feet). And obviously you were friends with the other girls who were dancing around, even though it was a chilly day.
@@patspicks360, I believe this aired very early in Season 1-Episode 107 or so. Others in the SQTV Community would know better If Sketchy still operated, I'd refer you to that.
"Why are those dudes singing about shapes fitting together?" "I 'unno, man, just go with it" [awkward dancing] on another note, this song still gets stuck in my head some 30-odd years later :p
This song stuck in my head for YEARS! Its not often someone uses the word 'tessalate' but whenever it has come up this song would start playing in my head! It drove me NUTS! Hahahaha!
One of my favorite Square One moments. I was thinking about this song last night and except for bits and pieces, I couldn't remember how it went. I'm glad I found it on here. So many memories...
Nothing says cool like putting on a sweater and singing about geometry at the beach. :) J/K Great video, I wonder if they would do this in this day and age
Very cool! I think it's pretty evident the weather didn't cooperate with you guys that day though the intentions of "sunny beach fun" are pretty clear. You guys did a great job of getting that across in your performance.
remember that the target audience for this was pretty young. I watched this show a lot when I was really small, and it really helped get me interested in math.
The man in the blue shirts name is Larry. Don't recall his last name. But Larry was the face of many a commercial and advertisments in the day. Every once in a while I still see he's working. ~H
What is very strange is how little difference there was between 1987 and 2015 vs 1987 and 1959 (same amount of time in both time spans). I was 10 going on 11 in 1987 and while I have seen some amazing tech progress (cassette tape walkmen and 8 bit Nintendo to mp3 players to smartphones, all which I used during this span), it seems miniscule compared to what someone from the 1950's-on saw (huge vacuum tube based computers that took up whole rooms in 1959, to far more powerful and small microprocessor based desktop and laptop computers in 1987). The styles shown here can easy pass for something worn in 2015. Are we stagnating?
Depends. If by "we," you mean "human beings," I would say "no." If by "we" you mean "citizens," I would say "artificially." It seems like our tech hasn't progressed that far because most of the *physical* tech advancements have been pretty much regulated out of existence by the government and our runaway, out-of-control legal system. However, non-physical tech has made huge strides. For example, there were no 3D accelerator cards in 1987; a technology that vastly expanded what sorts of images computers could generate in interactive programs. Huge advancements have been made in the areas of computer graphics, memory, processing speed and AI, as well as computer interface. You just don't see them walking down the street, unless you're playing Pokemon Go.
@@michaelglickman1300 I'm the girl in the video. I auditioned like everyone and Ken walz cast me as the fourth singer. The boy also auditioned his name is peter. I went in to be a successful entertainer and retired from show business in 2003. Loved these memories and these cast members. ❤
Sheesh, that smart alec, saying he was in the video. :-) (Which he probably was, if that's Cris Franco's channel.) Square One TV cast vs. the Beach Boys. Whaddya say?
Good catch. I wonder if it was to "censor" the brand which I can't really make out. I remember there were a lot of popular "beach wear" brands at the time.
I'm not sure which I liked better: the Beach Boy style of catchy music, or the cute females. (Strangely enough, I've never really used these videos to increase my love for math, but it was high to begin with.)
This is a really cool video. However, I wish they would spend more time talking specifically about tessellation geometry. Many of the lyrics seem to be about having a good time.

@@josephn.schneiderman8512 -- Definitely early Season 1.
I have had this song stuck in my head for 25 years. Thanks a lot.
Same bud same 😂
RIP Reg. E. Cathey...Thank-You Square One TV Cast.
NO WAY! THAT WAS HIM?!
2024 and this still hasn't left my head.
i came home everyday to watch this show made me very good at math. wish it was on dvd
Right! I'd watch the shit out of that! 🤘

I loved this show! I remember singing this song at recess in third grade. I was such a dork.
I have had this song in my head, off and on, for more than 35 years. FFS.
I caught myself singing this in my kitchen just now!
I loved this show!
My kids thought I was crazy when I broke into this song. Thank God UA-cam retains all of my "Nerdy" memories as proof that I am not (quite) crazy!
I can't believe they tessellated the WHOLE BEACH! XD!
One of my favorite Square One moments. I was thinking about this song last night and except for bits and pieces, I couldn't remember how it went. I'm glad I found it on here. So many memories...
Holy crap, that was my old account. I don't even remember making this comment :/
I've been singing this on and off for 25 years , lol .....
Reg Cathey had quite a prominent role on House of Cards. Every time he showed up on screen I'd think of songs like this.
WHAT?! Not Angle Dance huh?
Oh man. This is one of the things I remember most about Square One!
Was humming this song, in the bathroom, while sitting on the crapper & staring at the floor tiles! :D
This song is fantastic. They should have released it as a single during that time.
Nothing says cool like putting on a sweater and singing about geometry at the beach. :)
J/K Great video, I wonder if they would do this in this day and age
this was always one of my favorites. thank you!!
Bring the good times back
Tessellations is another term I learned from Square One TV that my high school teachers didn't even know.

Hey that's me! Any of you girls in this video remember how cold and cloudy that day was?
I went to chess museum and there was pictures by mc Escher who invented tesselation! Made me think this song
I would kill for a pair of those extremely loud shorts.
I turned tesselation on in a few of my games and no one started singing. I'm dissapointed.
Imagine all the kids that will never want to know anything about tessellation after watching this
Nothing in the world quite like an overcast day at the beach!
Haha!! Watched this in math and I didn't stop singing this until two days later
...and when it fits real tight, we'll know we're doing it right..... I thought this was a kids show!

Me too! :) that's excellent!
Beach babe would certainly make learning more fun. Cool
Thank you 🎉
RIP Reg E. Cathey
WHAT?! HE DIED?!
Sadly, yes. Of lung cancer on the 9th of this month. Only 59, gone way too soon.
You can also tessellate crosses stars rectangles pentagons and letter v's . Tessellating ovals and circles are very hard
I learned about tessallation through this song and not school :S
@greymattersblog When I read about Subway tessellating their cheese this song was the VERY FIRST THING I thought of.
@Wyrmshadow I love that the guy is wearing sunglasses on a cloudy day too. Filming crew didn't seem to think about this much.
Better than the Beach Boys, LOL
Say, who's the guy and girl with Reg and Larry?
Probably just extras.
Two strangers who wandered on camera and decided to play along.

dude was poppin collars 20 years ahead of it's time.
Looks like they filmed this during the winter in Southern California. This is what So-Cal in the winter often looks like.
+plateshutoverlock It was filmed at Gilgo Beach on Long Island.
Figures, since Square One TV was produced in the NYC area.
Yup, the only part of "Square One TV" that was filmed in the LA area was the first three seasons of Mathnet.
I used to sing this song, even though I didnt fully understand what tessellations were. LOL
LOL!!! NEBRASKA BEACH?!?!?
That I so funny....since when did NEBRASKA have a beach?!?!
I get it doh!
I always thought it was the best, lol

The other guys name was pete.
Larry Cedar was in a couple of commericials this past year. One was for 'Jared' jewelry stores. Other than a wrinkly brow, he's still the same.
Good ol' Brian Wilson knew about Good Vibrations, but did he know about Tessellations?
To be fair, I didn't know until Square One! =D

What an ugly day at the beach. Grey clouds... looks freezing!
I was only kidding guys. I'm not actually in this.
I had love for math first too. Not bad though.

fat chance of square one tv ever coming back to tv,no such chance in reruns.
VVovv, I am SOOOO jealous! I used to have the biggest crush on Larry vvhen I vvas a kid!
I vvonder if he's still cute today?
I wonder how long it took them to tessellate the beach for the end shot?
Longer than they’d planned. Kids kept running through, ruining the shot.
Really? Which one are you?
@americanidol434 HELL no! Need I remind you how they screwed up the Electric Company remake?! God knows what they'd do to this!
i must be gay, and the fact that i favorited this video is proof.
