  • So when did aesthetic desk setups become the hot topic? I wanted to follow up on my 14-inch MacBook Pro Desk setup tour and jump back in on this work from home aesthetic trend that we're seeing everywhere. Are we actually using our dream desk setups, or are they just set pieces for our minimalist Instagram feed?
    I've got a couple of new accessories I've been testing on M1 Mac Mini desk setup and I wanted to share these with you if you're looking to make a new investment in your space to get that productivity dialed in.

    The only thing that triggers me about this setup is the lack of leg space
    I don't see how that can be comfortable to work/game with

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 роки тому

      Well it’s primarily for standing. And the stool I use moves at the base so I basically lean back on it, however in my other desk setup video you’ll see that I also have another desk where I sit.
      But I get it. It’s not for everyone.

      Love the iPad stand. I use it daily. But as far as the cabinets, depending on how I’m standing or using the stool, I can open them up if I feel like I need some space, but I totally get that it’s not for everyone. I just love having this much space to spread out if I need to.

    I've been watching a lot of videos like this recently because I find them so inspiring. I think they're the reason why I began to take a much more serious interest in interior decor and interior design, specifically home office. I believe that having the work environment configured correctly according to our personal standards is what allows us to be more productive. Recently, I changed the colors of my home office, added some indoor plants, changed some basic devices and bought a Protractor desk at Barcelona Designs. Overall, I think that has inspired me to be more efficient.

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 роки тому

      A Protractor desk!? Very nice. That is inspiring. I of course agree that if this is the place that I’m spending most of my time, then I’ll make the necessary investments to make certain it’s a place where I feel inspired and more aligned with the way I work.
      Plants. I could use some plants.

    Kevin, I loved this video, not just for what it suggests to me for my own productivity and home decoration but for what it tells me about you, the artist behind this video. But I’m confused about something fundamental here: You disparage aesthetics, but as everything in this set up and your video screams out, you define them too

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 роки тому

      It’s the constant ebb and flow, and the push/pull that we seem to admire from a distance while also being enveloped by it at the same time.

      @@KevinRossRN yes and no. I've always been a ViewSonic fan and some of the things that drew me to this monitor is it's professional grade and features and I could game on it too, but I'm becoming increasingly annoyed with the colour. I work as a graphic designer and enjoy photography too. It's just not as good as I would like. I bought a colour calibrator hoping to dial in the colours. It'll do for now but in the future I'll probably give in to Apple and buy one of their displays or at least a more expensive ViewSonic. 😁

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 роки тому +1

      @@KevinRossRN Thanks Kevin for your efforts, but the links in the old video are not to those specific cabinets. I did click em' and I did check the kitchen cabinets and I cant find the ones you have in the video. They may be discontinued, but if you have a minute can you double check and see if you can still find them? Maybe I'm blind and missed them. So, I've gone ahead and updated those links in the description. Ikea just changed the name of the cabinets, but they're still the same (relatively speaking). It's the SEKTION line of cabinets. It’s like the non-exciting part of having a slick setup. Making sure you’ve got space to put everything. Drawers, cabinets, etc.
      Minimalism is nice as long as you’ve still got the available tools to work and of course when the work is done, then you’ve got a place they can stay until next time.

A 32 inch monitor would likely feel small, so you’d be landing (minimum) 38 inches, but trying to push as close to 40 as you can.

      The 38 will definitely provide a bit more real estate that will give you more options with split screen or being able to float a few windows that you may be working in.

    I would say that minimal desk set ups are an aesthetic but as simple as they look, they’re extremely expensive. • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 роки тому

      Yeah, I get where you’re coming from. I have some less expensive options from Amazon that have worked well, while I also have others such as a desk mat that the leather started to flake and peel. But again, there are some decent finds on there.

      Agreed. I actually have a medium Grovemade wool desk mat. I regret spending the $90 on it. After a year of use the leather "Grovemade" piece came apart. The Wool coasters I got from them seem to be holding up fine though. Still think they are grossly overpriced for what you get.
