- a lot of people nowadays watch UA-cam chronic debaters such as Hasanabi, Destiny, Sneako, Fresh and Fit, and other similar creators to get angry by proxy. The resulting dopamine hit puts them in a feedback loop of constantly needing to watch intellectual debates. the more explosive and edgy the better. I've decided tp name this phenomenon: Intellectual Cuckoldry. No for real. You heard it here first. - OzymandiasV2.
Honestly when you stop watching this type of content it matures you a lot. Imo the best thing to do is follow your own path and not stay online constantly.
real. a lot of people think what i talk about is “both sides suck and youre a loser” but its really about treating online people as toolboxes for ideologies, habits, and beliefs rather than prophets or circus clowns

I agree, recent years I was in a very bad state but when I stop taking these kinds of contents I feel like my life improved, not much but it did. Like there is more to life than just these things.

Absolutely spot on. Internet debates today, are mostly unproductive. They rarely change anyone’s mind, or at least result in people with different opinions understanding where the other is coming from. At this point, it’s just entertainment for the most part. Keeps your eyes stuck to a screen all damn day, instead of being productive.

I am slowly becoming less interested in listening to debates online. One of the things I have noticed from watching a lot of these informal debates online is that if person A and person B get into a debate people will assume that everything person B said must be correct because person A couldn't adequately push back against all the points person B made. People in the audience rarely try to critically evaluate person B's arguments in isolation to see if they also make any sense.
Also, these kinds of political debates have been going on forever, and often times you can find a much better version of an argument you heard in a debate by reading what the person who originally formulated the argument wrote about it. All this makes me think that most people are not actually interested in having their views challenged, but instead, want someone who sounds way more intelligent than them to confirm that all their beliefs are correct. Basing your opinions on a few debates without any kind of outside research and thinking is intellectually lazy.

This is why I save watching that kind of content for when I’m in a mood to actively listen, rather then just hate on the opposite side to “my content creator”, and if I notice that they are debating someone who isn’t knowledgeable or eloquent the convo loses almost all intrigue to me. also I CANT STRESS THIS ENOUGH: ARGUMENTATIVE CONTENT IS PROBABLY EXACERBATING YOUR BIAS AGAINST THE OPPOSITE SEX. respect people and think for yourself
Love the content :) But shaun and philosophy tube aren't part of this whole argument rage thing because even in their videos where they discuss specific people's views they treat their subjects with enough respect. (eg: in abigail's jordan peterson video it's a genuine discussion of his philosophy )

Intellectual cuckolddry is a funny and good way to describe it. A good example of one is the guy infrared, whos entire persona is anger and rage against right wing people. I was simply amused and entertained at his rage, mot the content or argument itself at all. After that, i realized how gay it is to just watch that kind of "pwnd liberal/nazi" contet is. Good vid.

I watch debate videos to get exposed to new ideas and to hear the validity of ideas expressed by people I might not agree with to come to new conclusions aswell as to improve myself as a debater, a hobby I engage in for fun btw. If you watch debate videos for the purposes of getting angry by proxy and think of that as "intellectually cuckoldry" to me, it just sounds like you're outing yourself.
I’m in the first 40 seconds and I agree I am more on the right side and most of the right side steamers get so angry and loud for no reason at all I don’t understand why people like it

Well, no offense but the reason why that is is because it’s the same arguments on the right, so they repeat themselves because the right is saying the same arguments, not exactly the lefts fault.
I totally agree with you, these not debates but just dumb agruing over not jmportant topic. But why did you put azure scapegoat and hakim as an example, especially hakim doesn't belong there because he is not insulting anybody or making extra long podcasts, he just explains many things from a Marxists perspecitve and tries to ecourage everybody to read books about such complicated fopic, which i a really good thing. Eh, idk man. I mean no offense but I think this mischaracterizes certain things. Like, Hassan doesn’t really do debates that often. Hell, I don’t think he’s done one in like… a year? 2 years or so? The only reason he’s lumped in is because he does streaming. So, he just looks like someone who does debates. Destiny isn’t even a part of “breadtube” (as loose fitting as the label is, which is why I’m not exactly found of it).
Vaush himself has also said he’s moving away from debates, and he kind of has. He doesn’t debate as often as he used to because every time he brings up his studies, the right wing person in the debate just doesn’t really care. It’s a complicated topic and I believe he talked about why he doesn’t do debates nearly as often as before in multiple videos. This is obviously a much longer topic, but as someone who watches this stuff a lot, and to make an analogy, I get the impression that you’re not exactly getting the full picture. This isn’t a bad thing just, misinformed.
It’s like, you’re looking into a window and you’re seeing people throwing stuff at each other, but since you only see it briefly, you don’t understand the reasons why or, you see them as the same just because they appear similar. Idk if that’s the best analogy, but I hope it makes sense.
TLDR, I don’t think you’re getting the full picture, or mistakenly mischaracterizes certain aspects, and therefore you’re assuming that this is a “both sides issue” where both sides are “equally as bad as each other” and, that’s not exactly true.
